Hi folks! This is the first story I've written here at TSR, hope it's not too terrible. I realise this first part does read a little like an extended sigh, but there will be more very soon. Sorry if it seems incomplete, but this really was the best place to break the first part off.

  • SUNSET VALLEY LOCAL LOST AT SEA

In the early hours of yesterday morning, the coastguard received a call from a woman informing them that her husband had not returned from a late night fishing trip. The coastguard recovered a boat at first light which was later confirmed to belong to the fisherman. Throughout the day the police and costguard worked together to search the coastal area, hoping to recover the young man.
Tragically, their efforts have been unsuccessful. The man has been missing for more than 12 hours at the time of writing and it is likely that he will be presumed dead if he is not found tomorrow.

  • MISSING FISHERMAN NAMED AS ARTHUR GOOLE

The Sunset Valley fisherman lost at sea on Wednesday night has been named as Arthur Goole. After working tirelessly for several days, the police and coastguard were not able to find and rescue the young man, nor recover his body. Yesterday he was declared to be missing, presumed dead.
Arthur is known to many Sunset Valley residents as a kind man, who has helped to keep the grocery store stocked with fresh fish since he was 13.
Arthur is survived by his wife, Anna. A funeral service will be held at the beach tomorrow afternoon.

  • It's always weird reading what somebody else has written about you. School reports, a reference from your old boss, a letter your mother wrote to her friend. This was something different. My own obituary, and it didn't even stretch to fifty words. The man who helped to keep the grocery store stocked. That was the mark I'd left on the world.

  • The young man who'd been reading the newspaper turned to his girlfriend.

"Did you see this?" he asked.
  • 6
  • "Oh yes... that is so awful. I went to school with his wife."
  • 7
  • "Really? Oh she must be so heartbroken, poor woman."

There was a pause, the couple no doubt contemplated the meaning of life briefly.
  • 8
  • "Did you still want to go and see that new vampire film later?"
  • 9
  • The conversation was being repeated all over town. "Terrible business that... fancy a game of chess?" Everyone moved on. I stood still.

  • At first I hung around Anna a lot. I thought maybe she'd be able to see me, or sense I was there and get some comfort from my presence. She never seemed to notice me though. She spent a lot of time alone in the house, crying. It was a terrible feeling to watch her cry like that, and to be unable to offer her any comfort.
  • 11
  • When friends came to visit, Anna put on a brave face...
  • 12
  • ...A smile, a hug, thankyou for the flowers, the card, the cupcakes. That's my Anna. She can't stand to show anyone that she's anything less than perfect. She only ever let her guard down when we were alone.
  • 13
  • Except now, it wasn't us alone, it was her, truely alone, and she wept and wept. It was too much. This may seem impossible to understand, but I left her side, and left her to cry.
  • 14
  • I went to the beach. In life, I had always gone fishing to go and think about things, and this was the closest I could get.
There was the young couple again, further down the beach. They were kissing each other passionately.
  • 15
  • Then, as their kiss broke, a strange thing happened. The girl looked at me. Not past me, not through me, but at me.
  • 16
  • She gasped and turned pale. Her boyfriend turned to see what she was looking at, and reacted too late to catch the girl as she fainted onto the sand.
