Chosen Memories


I don't see why it matters
when things aren't where they go,
that all those shampoo bottles
aren't lined neatly in a row.

So what the heck's the difference
if there's towels upon the floor,
And the couch is full of laundry
one lost shoe behind the door.

Don't get me wrong - you scrub the tub
you wash the dirty clothes,
You take out all the garbage
before it starts to decompose.

But I think of all the many things
I surely would have missed,
If instead I'd used those hours
checking chores off some dang list.

I'd never know that awsome feeling
of that soft warm rabbit fur,
As he snuggled close against my skin
so scared and insecure.

I wouldn't have spied those tiny flowers
all nestled hidden by the crick,
No finding treasure underneath the rocks
moved gently with a stick.

I wouldn't have heard my daughter laugh
as she wiggled with delight,
Of being declared the winner
of the game we played last night.

So on the day I take my final breath
all those memories in my head,
Won't be of all those household chores
but what I've chose instead! By Cat
