Welcome back it's been a while. Just under a year! Phew, I met the deadline! I just wanted to thank everyone who comments on my stories, your wonderful comments mean so much to me :) Rachael awoke to the crackling of the morning fire and the surrounding birds singing their morning song. Her heart was heavy with home-sickness, and a longing to see her daughter again. But none of that seemed to matter to her at that moment, all that was on her mind was finding the answers to her questions. Most importantly the guardians. "Who are they? What are they?" Rachael questioned. Nik-Mar gave her a funny look, trying to figure out what she meant.
"Oh! The guardians?" she smiled whilst remembering the night before. "I promised I'd tell you in the morning"
They started to walk while Nik-Mar explained the story.
"The guardians are said to be great immortal beings, capable of much distruction....."
"Deep in the jungle, there is supposedly a great temple.
Through a maze of corridoors and booby traps. Legend tells that a great golden room lies in the very heart of the temple. Only those pure of heart may enter, and drink the dancing water. It is said that once the water is consumed, the drinker will be rewarded with immortality. "The guardians are said to be the only two beings to be rewarded with the gift of immortality and are now sworn to protect it and hide the secret. Anybody that has gone in search for the hidden temple has never been seen again...."
"So that's why you were surprised to see us?" Rachael asked.
"I wasn't 'surprised'. The guardians are just a story, I was only joking when I said that to you" Nik-Mar smiled. Rachael was starting to get embarassed now, but then she started to think...
"But I saw the guardians! They were chasing that woman.....and they...they threw a rock at my head!"
"They'd only chase someone if they were close to the temple...." Nik-mar said, slowly starting to beleive that the legends could be true. “I have to go, I’ll talk to you later” With Nik-mar gone, Rachael decided to find out who this new woman was. She however stumbled upon on in depth conversation she was having with Dawson. Her blood ran cold, how was it possible that in one second she could hate someone so strongly? Where was her statue when she needed it, it would have set her straight. But instead of a nice conversation with her statue she got a guilty look from Dawson when she turned and walked away. Why was she even feeling this way? She asked herself. She wasn’t in a relationship with Dawson, and yet she was acting in a way that was much like she was. So was he, come to think of it, she thought. But it would never happen Rachael told herself. There was just too many factors, they were too different, she had a child to think of, and a lot more she was sure she could think of if given the time. Rachael decided she needed someone to talk to, so without her statue she had to improvise. Which wasn’t hard, she found a nice looking rock and sat down next to it. Its conversation capabilities shouldn’t differ from the statue. It was only then that she started to question her sanity, but she figured she was always a bit quirky. Now she was in a certain extreme, her quirky-ness had just joined her there. “I don’t think that he’s the type of guy I would normally go for” she told the rock who seemed to listen immensely, and didn’t interrupt her which she thought was quite thoughtful. “I mean if he was the last guy on earth, I don’t think I would have liked him” she chuckled to herself at that last statement. The sound of her chuckling though, masked the sound of twigs snapping behind her, she didn’t notice anyone was behind her until they were basically breathing down her neck. "I thought you were angry" he said as he noticed her laughing.
Rachael nearly jumped a meter in the air, no, come to think of it it was probably two. Screaming also accompanied the gymnastics. After a few seconds the tears started to come. All of this had left Dawson a bit bewildered. Anger followed by hysteria, attended also by a flood of tears. I don't think he realised how much of a fright he had given her.
"Are you alright?" he eventually asked, not quite knowing if he wanted an answer.
"I'm fine" she sobbed.
"Then why are you crying?" he asked smiling at her stubborn-ness.
"I'm not" she said trying to suffocate the tears, but ending up having a coughing fit instead.
There was a scent of awkwardness in the air, as neither knew what to say next. Rachael started ripping a leaf that was next to her and Dawson stared on into the trees, looking as if he was counting them.
“I’m sorry” he blurted out far too abruptly.
“What for?” Rachael asked.
“I don’t know, I just am” he mumbled.
“I don’t know why, you have no reason to be” Rachael replied quietly, not making direct eye contact. The awkward scent had flooded back in, as neither knew what to add.
Rachael got up and brushed the dirt from her skirt.
"Well not that this hasn't been fun" she said trying to mask her feelings with sarcasm and she thought about her crying fit she had two minutes earlier. "But I should go find where Jane's run off to" she started to walk away, looking at the ground. She couldn't bring herself to look him in the eyes. She had decided she wasn't going to like him any more in that way, and she was determined to be more stubborn than her feelings. She just needed time to adjust, looking into his deep, beautiful eyes was far too much for her to handle at that moment.
But as she passed Dawson, he obviously didn’t have the same thoughts.
“Wait” he said as he gently touched her arm and drew her closer to him. It happened too fast for her to react. He pulled her into a passionate kiss, it seemed to last forever. She could feel his warm breath on her cheek. Her mind was in complete silence, as she softly kissed him back. It all ended far too quickly though, forever didn’t seem to last more than a few seconds.
She was left shocked though, had that just happened? Or was she having one of her more realistic daydreams?
