"No, no take that!! You're going down!!!" "Hey are you guys finished? I need your opinion on something Nicole"
"Yes, I have officially finished kicking your cousin's butt!!"
"Hey I'm winning!" Jake protested. In that second he wasn't watching.
"It's pretty hard to win without a head" I pointed out, and he hung his head in shame. We all started laughing. "Wow! Look at you!"
"Yeah I know, I went past that new hair and make-up salon that just opened, what do you think?"
"You look Amazing!! So who's the lucky guy?"
"Oh I'm just going on a date with that guy from the hardware store" She looked down at her watch. "Oh crap! I'm going to be late! I'll see you guys later" She hugged me then ran out the door, nearly tripping on her high heels as she went. There was a few seconds then her head popped round the door "Can I borrow your car? Mine's at the mechanics dam! I forgot all about it" she said running out of breath
"Sure! Of course you can" I chucked her the keys that were on the counter and she caught them and ran down the driveway to the car. Started it, and vroomed off. "Hey we should get going, that is if you still want to come?" I asked hesitantly, hoping that he still wanted to go. "Die evil zombies!!!"
"JAKE!"
"Yep I'm coming" he said in a flat tone, as he was still focusing on the tv screen. I moved in front of it, to break his trance.
"Are you having a shower or something or are you coming like that?" he stopped and put down his remote. "Is it alright if I come like this?" I was hesitant
"Ummmm.....yeah...." he noticed in my voice. "I'll go and have a shower then" "Thanks! It's just a bit of a big deal you know?" He smiled. "Yes, I know" he laughed and kissed my cheek. "I'm so nervous!!" Jake told me trying to air dry his clammy hands.
"You don't need to be, he's just my father, he'll love you because I love you" I smiled at him. Then dad came to the door and let us in. "Hey it's nice to finally meet you" dad bellowed "I've heard soo much about you"
"Well...it's uhh...nice...I mean uhh great to meet you too" Jake said, looking back and forth between me and dad for reassurance.
"Come come, your auntie anne just made dinner and is setting it on the table as we speak" dad walked Jake into the dining room, leaving me standing in the hall. My Auntie Anne, hearing dad say that made me think of Michael, and where he is. I haven't thought about Michael in months. He left me, and he wouldn't return my calls or messages, but it didn't matter, I'm over him! And I'm with Jake now, and we're getting serious, and I love him.
"Nicole!" I was snapped out of thought.
"Yep I'm coming" It was a nice dinner Auntie Anne made porkchops which were my favourite. Dinner was filled with lots of meaningless conversation about the weather and work.
We finished dinner and I offered to clean up, and suggested to Jake that he could go look at my old room, for something to do. We all got up and Jake headed to my bedroom door, but on his way past my dad he nudged him and whispered something in his ear. Then they both suspiciously walked off into my room. Abbey's date wasn't going very well, she was hoping for a nice meal in a nice restaurant but all she got was a happy meal at Mcdonalds because that's all the cheap skate could afford. She had been sitting there talking to him while he sat there constantly critisizing her, and telling her unmentionable things about her appearance. "You should lose some weight, you look fat, my your nose looks big, you should get some plastic surgery to fix your forehead it's very wide" Abbey was naturally a quiet sweet shy person, so she sat there taking all his critisizing on board, tears slowly welling up in her eyes, she tried to change the subject but when that failed she just tried to imagine she was somewhere else, with anybody else. "Did you hear me!!!?!??!" He yelled across the room. Now Abbey was always very quiet, she never yelled, in fact I've never heard her yell! But he just kept going at her and she couldn't take anymore.
"Did YOU hear ME!!?!?!??!" He asked again raising his voice. "What??" she asked trying to remain calm and at the same time not burst into tears. "You're going to have to pay, I left my wallet at home" he said smirking. "You know if you did all those things I told you before, you'd be soo good looking, then you might be able to be my girlfriend" he tormented her again. She looked down at her full cup of lemonade, it was screaming at her to throw it, all the things he had said to her that made her want to break down and cry were now driving her anger and hatred.
"How DARE YOU!" she screamed. "How DARE you speak to me like that!!"
"I wouldn't yell like that if I were you, you scrunch up your face and it looks very ugly" he said without even noticing how angry she was. The drink was now screaming at her more than before. She grasped it tightly in her hands, and thought about it for a while. He kept going telling her all the things she needs to fix with herself. She needn't think about it anymore, she couldn't stand him, she had never, ever, hated anyone in her life. But she hated him. She picked up the cup and flung the contents at him. He squirmed trying to get away from the wetness, it was quite satisfying to Abbey. She then realise what she did. "I'm so sorry I-I" she felt embarrased, everyone at Maccas was now looking at them. Her cheeks flushed bright red and she got up quickly and ran out the door. I decided to take Jake out to the paddocks and show him my favourite horse. We stood outside talking for ages. Then the tone in his voice changed, and he took my hand in his.
"I know this isn't the most romantic spot, but Nicole" All I could do was look into his dreamy eyes, I knew what was coming. "Nicole, will you marry me? I know it might be too soon and all that but--"
"OF COURSE!! I'll marry you!!" I squealed. He got out a small diamond ring from his pocket and slid it onto my finger. I had no second thoughts, I knew I loved Jake and that I wanted to marry him, I've only been with him for a short time, but I knew it was right. "Hey I have some huge ginormous news to tell you!!" I told her as excited as I possibly could be.
"What?" She said then sniffed.
"Hey are you alright?" "What are you reading??"
"I'm trying to find a good plastic surgeon"
"What?? Why do you need a plastic surgeon??"
"Look at me!" she yelled tears pouring down her face.
"You're already beautiful, you don't need a plastic surgeon"
"Well tell that to my date, he said I had a million things wrong with me"
"There's nothing wrong with you! You are the sweetest most beautiful person I know, put that stupid magazine down" "You're perfect just the way you are, any guy that doesn't think that doesn't deserve you"
"You're just saying that" "I'm serious, don't ever think you're not good enough Abbey, because you are" I gave her another hug. "Now where's this hardware store guy? I'm gonna go kick his butt" Abbey smiled in between her sobbing. "You haven't kicked anyone's butt since the third grade, even then you barely won"
"Yes, but him treating you like this, has given me......special butt kicking powers" we both laughed.
"Okay I won't kick his butt, but I assure you Jake will" she smiled wiping the tears off her cheeks.
"What did you want to tell me?" I held up my hand to where there was now a diamond ring.
"Oh my goodness!! Did he propose!!!??!??!" She got majorly excited. All I had to do was smile and she was dancing all around the room. "Oh my goodness!!! You're getting married!!!"
"I'm getting married!!!" we both squealed at once.
"You'll have to let me help you with the plans and everything"
"Of course I will!!!"
