DRACULA RETURNS
I have never done a second part to my stories, but I had so many requests, I thought I would give it a whirl...Also please note this is my story, I am not following any particular book or movie...I present my continuing version of...DRACULA!!

Some weeks have passed since Dracula's death...in that time Mina has dreamt of him constantly...he has never left her mind, day or night. It is like she has been infected with a disease with no cure. She often replays their last night together in her mind... Their last night was one that Mina will never forget....but now what should she do? Marry Jonathan? She really did not want to...but now it looks as though she must...
Poor Jonathan has been at Mina's side, day and night...nursing her, attending to her every need...while she dreams of Dracula... "The thought of eating this sandwich makes me ill"...thought Mina. There was no mistaking the symptoms...she was expecting, and the child was definitely not Jonathan's. She now had no choice but to take up Jonathan's marriage proposal as quickly as possible. Mina went to find Jonathan. "Oh, my dear...can you ever forgive me for what has happened...it was a moment of madness, and that madness has now passed. I am feeling so much better, more like myself....and I would be humbly grateful if you would marry me...that is, if you still want to..." her words trailed off, tears sprung to her eyes. Mina was most convincing. Jonathan could not believe what he just heard. After all these weeks...it is what he prayed for...hoped for. He wanted nothing more than to make Mina his wife.
"Yes Mina...I will marry you..." he said simply, Jonathan tried hard to contain his emotions. Mina rushed in Jonathan's arms. "Oh my darling..." she whispered huskily. " Let's get married tomorrow...I can't wait any longer..."
Jonathan was overjoyed. But for a split second, a wave of dread washed over him. He shrugged it off...nerves, perhaps. "Of course my dear...as soon as you wish.." And so, Jonathan and Mina were married, a small ceremony with only a few guests, and they soon settled into a comfortable domestic life. Mina found a certain sense of serenity with Jonathan, after all, she was fond of him. Some weeks later, Dr. Van Helsing makes an unexpected visit to the newlywed couple.
"Why Mina! Jonathan told me you were down here by the brook...how well you look, and hearty congratulations on your impending motherhood! And so soon after your marriage...how are you feeling?" "I still have nightmares, sometimes...they are very vivid. Tell me, Dr. Van Helsing..I still worry greatly for Jonathan and myself.." Mina said smoothly. "Are you sure there is no way Dracula can return?" "Please, call me Edward my dear...and please do not worry. Dracula was destroyed. There is no possible way he can rise again...regardless of what the superstitious Eastern European tales tell us.
You have other, more pleasant things to concentrate on...."
Mina nodded in agreement. She smiled inwardly. So...there was hope... The months flew by..and then Dr. Van Helsing was called to attend the birth.
"Jonathan! Everything went well...you are the proud father of a baby boy...congratulations! I've never seen a more handsome or healthy child that was born prematurely. Seems providence was on our side!"
Jonathan said softly "And Mina?"
"Positively glowing, she came through without any complications!" Edward beamed.
Jonathan face broke into a smile. "Edward, thank you so much for attending Mina..you are a dear friend, and I have never been so happy!" After a few days recovery, Mina went into the nursery.
Mina took a good, hard look at Victor. Yes...she could see it around the eyes...they were dark and and deep...as intense as his father's. Will the deception hold? Will Jonathan believe the boy is his....and not Dracula's? Jonathan came into the nursery. "Mina, my dear...I want you to know how completely happy you have made me, and how much I love you and our little son..." Mina felt a few tears forming in her eyes. She suddenly felt guilty and full of remorse. Poor Jonathan...he must never know. She gently handed Victor over to Jonathan. Mina took a sharp intake of breath as Jonathan looked intensely at the baby. "Surely it will be as obvious to him as it is to me..." worried Mina inwardly.
"Such a handsome boy...my love, he looks like you!!" cried Jonathan. A few months have passed. One day, Mina told Jonathan she was going shopping, when in fact, she went to the village library.
In a dark, musty corner of the library, Mina found the section she was looking for. A long forgotten book called "Vampyre". She had overheard Edward talking to Jonathan about this book with it's myths and stories when she was recovering. She had to find away to bring Dracula back...she could not think of anything else...it took over her mind, it became a dangerous obsession..she ached for him, and could not explain why. She would have no peace until he was back in her arms. She cared not that he was a vampire, nor cared about the evil he would bring with him. "I've found it!" She exclaimed. She read to herself..."On the Eve of St. George's Day, the height when all forms of evil are most active, mix a few drops of blood from the line with the ashes remains, and the vampire will be resurrected..." Mina pondered, "Of course! Victor is the blood of the line!" She could hardly contain her excitement.
Mina thought..."This will take careful planning...It is now August, the Eve of St. George's Day is May 4...I can wait..and I have plenty of time to arrange things.." Her brain worked feverishly over what she had just read. "Yes my love...we shall be together again...soon..." And Mina knew just the place to perform her ritual and hide Dracula. On the Harker's huge estate, hidden away in a far corner, an abondoned groundskeeper's cabin. No one ever came to this part of the woods. Mina also knew that she was expecting a child again...she did the math quickly in her head, thankfully the child will be born before May 4...nothing can get in the way of her plans, not even her children. Mina took a long bubblebath..Yes, I will tell Jonathan the happy news tomorrow...then I will wait patiently for next May.
Mina felt strangely at peace. Now she will give Jonathan a child of his own...somehow in her own twisted mind it erased some of the guilt she had been feeling, that this baby will make up for all the lies and deception. Life continued contentedly at the Harker estate. Now almost 2 years old, Victor was a delight to Mina. She spent every waking hour she could with him. It was now early spring, and all her plans will soon come to fruition. She was expecting her second child any day now.... March arrived, with it's cold rain, and overcast skies...Mina was delivered a son, who they named Harrison James Harker. Jonathan beamed appropriately with pride, while Mina, relieved and glad the birth went well, would begin planning in earnest her devious plan to resurrect Dracula. The evening of May 4th arrived. Mina waited until after midnight, when the house was fast asleep. In the coffin she purchased, she mixed the ashes she had closely guarded these last few years, and two drops of blood from Victor. She closed the lid, and waited. The coffin began to creak and shudder. The lid slowly opened, and a groggy Dracula sat up and moaned.
Mina could barely contain her excitement. Mina ran and jumped in Dracula's arms. "Oh my darling...it worked! You are here! How long I have waited...how I missed you!" "My darling..." Mina began. "Listen to me...we must keep you hidden. You are still weak...also Van Helsing may be around as he visits now and then. Also..." Mina cleared her throat. "Jonathan is here...I....I am married to him..." "Married??" Dracula thundered. "Why? Why would you marry that insipid fool? I recall you told me you did not love him! What possessed you, Mina?" "How DARE you get angry with me!" Mina cried. "After all I have sacrified to bring you back to me...I will tell you why...I was expecting a child...YOUR child, and he needed a name and a safe santuary. Why did I bother!" "Mina, forgive me...It's just that I can't stand the thought of you and he....forget my anger. I love you so much, it aches.." Dracula tenderly kissed her hand. " Forgive my anger, also." Mina said through her tears. "Kiss me...I have waited so long..." Later, Mina led Dracula quietly to Victor's nursery, and pointed at the crib.
Dracula picked up Victor and held him close. Victor showed no fear, in fact he snuggled in close to Dracula, and cooed softly. Dracula felt a surge of pride and love toward the boy. "My Son..." he said aloud to no one in particular. Over the next couple of weeks, as soon as Jonathan was fast asleep, Mina ran down to the isolated cabin to be with Dracula. He was still in a weakened condition, but was regaining his evil powers fast. "Mina, my love..." Dracula said gently. "I want you to have this ring, it has been in my family hundreds of years. Take it, as a token of my utter devotion to you. In all the centuries, I have never felt this way before, nor will I feel this way again."
Mina uttered a delighted cry of surprise. Mina jumped into his arms. "My darling! How I love you! Promise me..." she whispered urgently in his ear. "Wherever you go, you will take me and our son with you!! I can't be parted from you again, not ever, I can't bear it! I will go mad!!" "On the honour of my ancient name and family, my sweet Mina...I promise we will not be parted, nor will we be parted from our son. We will have to make plans, we must be away from this place as soon as we are able." Mina nodded in agreement. Late the next evening a restless Jonathan took a walk on the estate.
He froze. His eyes must be playing tricks. Dracula? But he was destroyed...and what in God's name was he doing in Victor's nursery? Beads of sweat appeared on his forehead. We are all in danger....Jonathan thought. In almost the next instant, Mina entered the room with Victor. She handed the child to Dracula. He hugged Victor close and handed him back to Mina.
Jonathan felt the vomit rise in his throat. Mina, playing happy families with this evil creature...why?? Jonathan fought back the urge to be sick. Think...think....of course...Edward! I must go to Edward first thing in the morning...he will know what to do. Jonathan's heart began to ache with betrayal. Early the next morning, Jonathan burst into Edward's study. All at once, he was speechless, he could not think of anything to say.
Edward looked up from his book. "Jonathan! What is it? You have such a haunted look on your face! Is there anything I can do?" "I....I don't know where to begin..." Jonathan began describing what he had seen the night before. Edward listened intensely. When Jonathan had finished...Edward sighed deeply. "Vampires can be resurrected under certain circumstances, from what you have told me of their intimate relationship, it is obvious that Mina perpertrated this foul act. The tie between them is stronger than either of us thought. We must catch Dracula during his daytime slumber, and perform the rituals to destroy him utterly...you, my dear Jonathan, must find out where his hiding place is without Dracula or Mina knowing you are on to them...can you do this?" "I can't believe this..." Jonathan said angerily. "How many times do we have to destroy this creature before he is truly out of our lives? And Mina! All this time she plotted and lied..."
"A Vampire can have a very strong hold over a person's mind Jonathan, especially if she believes herself in love with him. Now, listen.." Edward said firmly. "You must act as nothing has changed. Mina must not suspect you. As soon as you find Dracula's lair, let me know and together we will rid the world of this evil once and for all!!" Jonathan returned home, and went to the parlour to be alone and absorb everything he and Edward talked about. In toddled Victor. "Da..da..dada..." Victor said playfully.
It was if a bolt of lightening had struck Jonathan. His heart sank. Why did he not see it before? Love had blinded him. The dark hair and eyes, the high cheekbones...it was unmistakable. Jonathan turned his head away in disgust. "Spawn of evil..." Jonathan said under his breath. The next evening, Jonathan followed Mina through the woods to the ramshackle cabin.
Jonathan peered in the filthy windows. And there they were, locked in an embrace. All the time Dracula was hiding here on the estate...he must get word to Edward...and fast. Jonathan quickly and quietly returned to his room. "Mina, listen to me...this is important. I have a plan. I want you as soon as you can tomorrow to book passage for yourself and Victor to Romania. I will travel in the cargo hold. Then we will go to my estate, it is well hidden and known to no one."
Mina snuggled closer to Dracula. She purred contentedly. Almost all thought of Jonathan and Harrison were far from her mind. "As you say, my love...first thing tomorrow..." Jonathan awoke early the next morning. He had a fitful sleep, tossing and turning, awash in a cold sweat. His stomach in knots. He must go get Edward...and finish this thing once and for all. Jonathan dressed and immediately went to the nursery for Harrison. Thank goodness he hired a nanny for the children or they would be neglected terribly. Mina had lost all interest, at least in Harrison. Jonathan looked at the baby with complete devotion.
"Nothing or no one will ever harm you", he said softly. "Now..to get Edward, and end this..." Mina was making her way back to the estate when she saw Jonathan and Edward running for the cabin. Ice cold terror grabbed her. How? How did they find out? We were so careful! Mina followed, and tried to get in, but they had locked and bolted the door. She began to bang furiously on the door. "Jonathan, Edward! Stop!! Let me in!" she screeched.
Her yelling and pounding were soon drowned out by Dracula's agonizing screams. Mina continued to scream outside. Edward closed the lid. "Well, Jonathan, all is left is to nail the coffin shut. We shouldn't burn it, we cannot risk Dracula's ashes falling into the wrong hands. I suggest we bury it in a location, unmarked, of course, here in the woods."
"I just want this over.." Jonathan said dully. "You stay here, Jonathan...I will take Mina back to the house, sedate her and lock her in her room. I will come back as soon as I can, and we will bury this evil, hopefully, forever."
Jonathan nodded slowly in agreement. Edward dragged Mina kicking and screaming back to her room. He promptly slapped her. "Foolish woman!" He slapped her again and again until she calmed down. "You are to take these pills, and I will check and make sure you did take them...then I am going to lock you in your room, something Jonathan sould have done a long time ago!" "What have you done...where's my beloved?" Mina screamed.
"If by beloved you mean that creature of the undead...we finished him, and he will return no more. Now, take these pills and cease the screaming, or I will slap you again!" The sun was starting to set as the men completed their arduious task. As a nearby owl began to hoot, Jonathan signed deeply.
"It is finished..." Edward said softly. Two weeks have passed. Edward comes over to examine a catatonic Mina.
"She is no better Jonathan?" Edward inquired.
"No, she alternates between hysterical screaming fits and this non-responsive state.."Jonathan's voice trailed off wearily. "I can't deal with this Edward..all love I felt for this woman is gone." "I suggest we put her in the Carfax Asylum, my dear Jonathan. Until she recovers, if at all. What about the children?"
Jonathan sighed. "I cannot abide even looking at Victor...but what's to be done? he is still part of Mina..."
"I have examined the child.." Edward said quietly. "By all accounts he seems normal. My advice is to forget this terrible episode."
"Perhaps you are right..." Jonathan said. In another part of the manor, down in the nursery, Victor stands upright in his crib, looking out on the night sky. Night was his favourite time of the day. Slowly a small, but sly smile curves about his lips, his dark eyes flashing...here is the Son of Dracula....
