Our story continues, Verity is about to receive some disturbing and grievous news with regard to her beloved husband Jon Van Helsing...news that will affect every member of the family... Verity anguished cry echoed throughout the house. "You are here to tell me he is dead, aren't you?" she shrieked loudly. "That is why you brought Vicar Stanhope, to soften the blow!" The tears were flowing freely now, down her cheeks.
Dr. Colin Blewett arrived during this scene and he quietly carried Jane to a nearby room, not wanting to disturb Verity in her distress. "No Mrs. Stanhope, your husband Captain Jon Van Helsing is not dead. Not officially. He is however, missing." The major said in a steadfast voice. He glanced at the Vicar, looking for a little assistance.
Verity began to weep aloud, she did not know whether to be relieved or not! "Missing...missing??" A groan escaped from Verity's constricted throat. She continued to weep. "What does that mean?"
The major looked resolutely at Verity. "After the Battle of Messines, Captain Van Helsing was reported. It does not necessarily mean he has been killed, he may be a prisoner of war or separated temporarily from his regiment." The Vicar tried to console poor Verity to the best of his limited ability. "There, there my child... informing the family is usually done by telegram, but Major Cooper was in the area and came to see me. I thought it best we both come and see you together." he said soothingly.
Verity hardly heard what the Vicar was saying. The tears began to flow again without abatement.
Missing...he could be anywhere, lying in some filthy, water filled trench. He could have been taken prisoner by the Germans. She prayed that was the case, at least he would still be alive!!
But a prisoner of war...Oh Jon, JON!!! Verity calmed down as best she could. "You...you will keep me informed, if the status should change? The army will do all it can to find him, one way or the other?"
"We shall Mrs. Van Helsing. Do not despair. " The two men turned and left Verity alone. Later than same night, Vic heard from his friend and colleague Dr. Blewett the terrible news of Jon, and also of Jane's collapse. He immediately made his way to the Van Helsing's.
He found Verity in the solarium, alone, looking out the window into the setting sun.
"Verity..." Vic's deep voice said gently. Verity turned and ran into the safe harbour of her dear friend's arms. The tears began once again.
Vic held her close; and murmured comforting words into her ear.
Verity returned his warm friendly embrace, grateful for his concern and sympathy. "I came as soon as I heard...what you must have endured these last hours." He still held Verity in his arms. He didn't want to let go. He looked deeply in her large, sad brown eyes.
"My poor Verity." Vic's deep melodic voice cracked with emotion. He finally released her and stepped back. "I do have some grievious news Verity, I have examined Jane and it is as Dr. Blewett surmised, she has suffered a stroke. We will not know the severity until she awakens. I am so sorry; you do not need this added worry. "
Verity shook her head in disbelief. What else can happen?? "I promised Jon I would look out for you, Jane and the children. If you will allow me, I will move in and be as much of an assistance as I can be. I can help you run the household, attend medically to Jane, be a support. I will see Edward, we will enlist what help he can give as well. I will not take no for an answer. I gave Jon my word of honour." Vic said passionately. Verity looked at Vic's dark handsome face. How wonderfully kind he truly was. It would be a great relief to have him near. He was right, Edward could only do so much; he was unavailable during most of the daylight hours.
She tried to smile. "Yes Vic, I gladly and gratefully accept your offer." Jane had indeed suffered a debilitating stroke. She lost the power of speech, and she could no longer walk. But her brain was still very much active. She was a prisoner in her own 69-year-old body.
Early one evening, without warning or invitation; Dracula apperated in the Van Helsing home. "My dear Jane, it has been a long time," Dracula whispered softly. "I am sorry to say time has not been kind to you, your fresh beauty has quite diminished."
Jane's hands began to move in an agitated manner; her eyes blinking rapidly with terror. That creature, here! "Oh, dear lady...are you trying to speak? Perhaps call out for help? I am not here to harm you or any of your family. I just want to express my condolences at the loss of your youngest son. I too, know the pain and heartache of losing a young son, most tragic indeed." Dracula clicked his tongue in sympathy. Hot angry tears began to spill down Jane's withered cheeks.
"Do not look so agitated my dear woman...he IS dead, you know this to be true. 'Missing in Action' only means they have not found his body...that is all. Accept this fact. Do not cling to an empty hope." Dracula said, in a soothing voice. "I can sense your intense hatred Jane, good, hate keeps a person alive, feed on it!" Dracula cried.
I feel you are not long for this world, so I thought we should 'clear the air' as they say. You think me evil; devoid of any human feeling...you are quite wrong. I have loved before; I dare say I shall love again. But no one was dearer to me than Mina Harker..." Dracula's voice began to rise in fury. "Do you understand the pain and torment of having the one that you love ripped from your side? NO!! All Mina and I wanted was to be left alone! We were leaving...we intended no harm to anyone, but Harker and Van Helsing would not let it go! These interfering, invidious men destroyed me and locked poor Mina away...she died alone, in that wretched asylum!" "God, how I loved her so!" Dracula cried painfully. "In all my hundreds of years I never loved anyone as deeply..." his voice trailed off sadly. "And so revenge entered my heart once again, it took over my every thought.
I spoke these words to Harker before he met his end at my hands, 'I will bring nothing but misery to your family as the years pass. And know you alone are responsible for your family's anguish and torture!' Dracula stopped and took a deep ragged breath. Jane looked at Dracula with wide, frightened eyes.
"Yes, at my hands." he continued. "Victor warned me to stay away from your second husband. But I could not rest; revenge had gripped me tight, like a malignancy. So I decided to take you from Van Helsing, the woman he loved. I wanted him to suffer the torment I suffered! I had a plan...I was going to turn you into a vampire, keep you away from him forever." "I could not do it. I could not bring myself to give you the final bite. It is because of you that Victor is the honourable man he is today. You gave him tender love and care over the years, and you protected him from Harker's hate, you sheltered him in his times of sorrow and doubt. You are his mother...he loves you. I could not do it." Dracula whispered. "So listen now, my dear Jane..." Dracula said in a tranquil and calm voice. "Let me offer you a choice. Let me release you from this prison of a body, let me ease your pain and suffering, let me assist you in your final journey, spare your family any further heartache. You do not deserve such an end as this. To live out your final days trapped in a useless body, not able to speak. Just blink twice for yes, and it will all be over..." Dracula waited. He stood and watched the woman in the wheelchair, he could see she was struggling with the decision. Finally, Jane sat straight in her wheelchair; her arthritic hands folded in her lap. She sat and looked straight ahead, and did not blink.
Dracula sighed somewhat sadly. "Very well. It is your decision. I will leave you now. Remember at your end..remember I made this offer of kindness. Good bye, Jane Van Helsing." Dracula turned and left the room.
Jane sat in her chair...the tears spilling down her cheeks. Her mind was whirling. She was sorely tempted to take Dracula up on his offer, but she wanted to stay... if only on the slim chance Jon will be found and returned safely to the family. The many tribulations in the turbulent marriage of Raynor and Mina continues; with the last couple of years passing with hardly a word spoken between them. The few words that are exchanged are in rancour.
Mina cannot forget or forgive Raynor's rejection of her overture of affection.
Raynor cannot forgive or forget her hateful words. On this particular night, Mina has had quite enough of Raynor's nightly disappearances. All day she is alone to deal with the children, and they are quite a handful.
"You are not going out tonight!" Mina thundered vehemently. "I cannot take this much more! Where do you go? You should be here, seeing to your family!" Raynor laughed cruelly. "My dear, I am a man, a man with wants and needs, I see to those needs. I have heeded your warning of staying away from you, so I must look elsewhere. It is no fault of mine!" Raynor chuckled in a mocking tone.
Mina stared into those eyes of unbelieveable coldness. How can such a cruel monster be hidden in such a handsome shell? "You are NOT a man. A man loves and protects his family, has compassion in his heart! You are cold, like an iceberg. There is no love in you! You wanted these children, yet you hardly see them. Every night they ask for their father.
No, you are not a man; you are an wild animal, out on the hunt..." Mina spat maliciously. Raynor's eyes briefly flashed hurt, but he expertly hid it before Mina could notice. How her words could cut him to the bone, how she could tear and shred at his heart.
He stood before her, he was breathing hard, trying to control his anger, and control the crushing need of taking her in his arms. "Yes, I hunt. I am a vampire my sweet in case you forgot. I need blood to subsist. And if I should find that blood in the arms of an attractive young lady, then so much the better! What is it to you? Perhaps you are jealous!?" Raynor roared furiously.
'Blood sucking fiend!' Mina thought to herself. But she could not help but be attracted by his terrifying beauty. Even in anger, his magnetic charm was palatable. Mina snorted aloud. "If you think I spend my waking hours pining away for you, you are sadly mistaken! You made it very clear on our wedding night what this marriage was all about. Edward Van Helsing would not have behaved so! And to think I ran from him, only to wind up in your clutches!"
Raynor raised one eyebrow. "Who is Edward Van Helsing?" he hissed quietly. "I was betrothed to him! We were to be married, but something tragic happened. I ran here, to get away from what he had become. And whom should I meet but you, another creature of the night! I stupidly fell under your spell, or so I thought!"
Raynor laughed in his mocking tone. "You mean to tell me this Van Helsing is a vampire? The irony! What a fool he must be to let a mere woman get away from him!" "How dare you laugh and mock Edward! You know nothing about him! He is twice the man you are, in EVERY way..." Mina let her deep meaning sink in.
Raynor stopped laughing. His cold grey narrowed; and the arrogance was replaced with a genuine frostiness. 'What are you saying, Mina?" he murmured. Mina saw her cruel words had met their target. She called his masculinity and prowess as 'Vampyre' into question, by comparing him to another vampire no less. She had no intimate knowledge of Edward whatsoever, but she was gratified to see her lie injured and angered Raynor. For Mina was harbouring a secret, for years now in spite of herself, she has grown to love Raynor, more than she ever thought possible. And she would never let him see it, not as long as she drew breath! Raynor grabbed Mina and began to kiss her. She struggled at first; twisting in his strong arms to get away. But he held her fast. How dare she compare me to another!! Raynor fumed.
For Raynor was harbouring a secret. For years now in spite of his declarations of not believing in love, he adored Mina. He loved her, heart and soul. But he would never let her see it, nor admit it to himself, not as long as he walked this earth! Mina at last broke away from Raynor. She was enjoying his embrace and kisses far too much. "Don't..." she said simply.
They stood and looked at each other, neither one daring to move or speak, lest their deep hidden feelings bubble to the surface.
Raynor broke the impasse. "I will heed what you say, and pay more attention to the children. Good evening." He left Mina, emotionally drained and bereft. Finally after a few years of tedious construction, Carfax Estate was completed. The family moved in, their new home was still secluded; their privacy was the utmost importance. A more modern home, they now had electricity and indoor plumbing, gone where all traces of the castle. The twins Garrard and Gabriele were growing up quickly. Carolina was close to 50 years of age, the deeply etched lines in her lovely face were much more noticeable now. Victor however, still looked 25 years old, even though in reality he was 57. Their deep and abiding love had not wavered; they still loved each other deeply.
Fighting the 'need' was a constant, daily struggle for Victor; it was Carolina's love that kept him grounded. Carolina reached up and caressed Victor's cheek. "My love, I adore our new home. Let us have the entire family over for a party to celebrate our new abode. I will take care of the details, we will have it in the early evening, so your father and Edward can also attend..."
Victor smiled. "Of course Carolina, anything you wish. It might be nice if we all got together, it has been awhile, it would be especially nice for Verity, Jane and the children..."
Carolina flushed with pleasure. " I will go at once and start planning!" She left the room. Dracula entered the parlour, passing Carolina on the way in. "Carolina looks pleased about something!" he said.
"Yes father, we are going to hold a little soiree for the family, to celebrate our new home. You are to attend, as is Edward. Carolina insists, as do I." Victor smiled. Dracula was quite taken aback. He had never been invited to any social event the family had held before. He spoke softly, "I am touched my son, truly. Most kind of you both. Are you sure it will be alright?"
"It is my home, and yours." Victor said firmly.
Dracula changed the subject. "My son, Carolina is starting to show her age quite noticeably. Have you given any thought to my suggestion?" He asked in a hushed tone.
Victor sighed. "No father, I cannot abide your suggestion. Turning Carolina into a vampire, really!!"
"Listen Victor, It is the only way you both can stay together! She will age no further. Carolina is still a handsome woman, think of all the years you will have, the love, the happiness!" Dracula urged.
"And would you have done that to mother? To curse her? Just to keep her selfishly by your side?" Victor asked incredulously. Dracula thought for a moment. "I almost did..." he said softly. "She begged me; I was about to give her the second bite when Harker and Van Helsing interfered. And when I returned...I could not do it, I loved her too much to curse her for all eternity."
"Then you have my answer father. I feel the same." Victor said sadly.
Dracula shook his head. "It will be painful to watch her age and slip away, I do not envy you. It will be difficult."
Victor could not speak; he just nodded in agreement. It was something he was dreading. Dracula walked out onto the large balcony at Carfax Estate. He looked out over the barren landscape to the large lake below. The sun had almost set, its most damaging rays long tucked away.
In the distance, Dracula could hear the lonely hoot of an owl. He thought over his conversation with his son. Dracula sighed deeply. It has been well over 50 years since Mina was torn from him. As much as he was deriving great pleasure in his family, especially the twins, he had to admit, he was lonely.
This is the longest he has gone without any companionship of the female persuasion. Mina left a huge gaping hole in his heart. Only now was the festering wound starting to heal...perhaps at last, it was time to move on. Back In Scotland, Mina seeks out Raynor to discuss a piece of news. "Raynor, I have received a letter from my sister Verity, her husband has been reported missing in France. I must go to her, she needs me..." Mina's voice quivered with emotion. "Uncle Arthur stopped by this afternoon, the whole family is off to London and asked if I would go with them." She sniffed. "I implore you to let me go!!" "I am sorry Mina, I cannot allow it, and I do feel some sympathy for your sister's situation. But you are needed here. The children need you. I ne..." Raynor stopped, stumbling over his words.
"What were you going to say?" Mina whispered. Her eyes were moist and her intense look implored him to finish his sentence, to admit any feelings. Raynor did not take the bait. "It is no consequence. I am sorry to say my sweet I do not trust you to return, so I cannot allow any visit." Raynor said firmly. "Besides, I do not want your family to know about my being a vampire, not yet. And you are not to tell them, remember my warning."
"How can I forget your veiled threat...and my children are here, of course I would return!" Mina cried, her voice still full of emotion.
"But you would have left your newborn son?" Raynor questioned, mockingly.
Mina did not reply.
Raynor took her hands. "So you would not return for any other reason?" He murmured huskily.
Mina stood perfectly still, she looked into his eyes, did she briefly see something resembling compassion, even caring in his eyes? Or was he mocking her as he often did...It wavered briefly and was gone. Mina removed her hands; his touch was stirring her feelings. They both stood looking at each other, but neither one would make the next move. "To be honest, I do not know..." Mina answered truthfully.
"I see. I appreciate your honesty. Perhaps a visit when the children are older may be possible. In the meantime, you will have to stick to letter writing." Raynor said gently. Raynor turned and left the room. He had spoken almost kindly to her! A crack in the stone wall at last? Mina smiled slightly.
He terrified and excited her all at the same time, his wild magnificence, his confident bearing; it was a feeling she had difficulty dealing with.
He was a vampire...he was real evil here on earth. He was unpredictable, predatory and dangerous.
And she loved him...God help her! The party at the Harker's is about to get under way, some of the children have gathered in the playroom.
Aidan Van Helsing is making his obnoxious presence known; he immediately hones in on his cousin Wagner Van Helsing and begins to tease him mercilessly. He also tries to steal Garrard's toys; he shoves Garrard, then kicks him viciously. When Garrard shoves him back, Aidan began a most horrific tantrum, which he no doubt inherited from his mother.
The glass-shattering screams could be heard throughout the estate. Victor at last came into the playroom. "Stop this racket!" he thundered.
Wagner pointed at Aidan. "It was him, Uncle Victor, He caused all the disturbance, he kicked Garrard!"
Victor began to lecture Aidan, but he could see the boy was ignoring him. There was no regret or emotion showing in the young boy's eyes. Victor sighed. It was if he was looking into his brother Peter's cold icy soul, or Sabrina's for that matter. In another part of the estate, Edward is alone in one of the smaller parlours. He is deep in thought and does not hear Sophronia Carberry enter the room.
Sophronia watched him for a few minutes, then cleared her throat. "I don't believe we have met..." she said in a strong voice.
Edward turned, he was face to face with a rather handsome looking young woman, who reminded him slightly of someone...Mina.
After polite introductions, Edward found himself deep in friendly conversation with Mina's cousin. Some other members of the family came into the parlour; Sophronia's brother James watched the animated conversation with a smile on his face.
Harrison Harker on the other hand, looked on in some concern. Edward found he had a lot in common with Sophronia. She was quick witted, intelligent, very pleasant to talk to. He soon found himself forgetting the fact that she reminded him of Mina.
His interest in the young lady grew the longer they conversed, they spent the rest of the party in each other's company. Sophronia was also finding herself taken with Edward Van Helsing. There were such layers of power, an elemental male presence she found intoxicating.
Sophronia usually spoke her mind on most occasions, so she did not hold back here, either. "You were going to marry my cousin some years back, were you not? What happened?"
Edward lowered his head. "It was not to be..." he whispered sadly. "You are over her by now, surely?" Sophronia said, a-matter-of-factly. "I remember attending her small wedding to Lord Nightwood. He is a rather imposing figure, very handsome, but he looks altogether predatory, an air of cruelness about him. He keeps Mina and her children on a fairly short leash, we hardly see them."
Edward raised his head, and looked into Sophronia's frank face. "Yes, I suppose I am over her. She did break my heart, most cruelly. But, there was fault on both sides. It is finished." Edward whispered, his voice rasping with emotion.
And he found in speaking the words aloud that he was speaking the truth, Mina was in his past. Edward cleared his throat and changed the subject.
"I would be delighted if you would allow me to call on you tomorrow evening," Edward said, his voice dripping with charm, a charm only a vampire can exude.
Sophronia found herself quite pleased at the prospect. "Of course, I look forward to it."
Edward smiled broadly. "I will be back in a moment, pray excuse me." Edward left the room. Laura came right over to her niece. "Sophronia my dear, As much as I am fond of Edward, I implore you to keep your distance. Do not see him again before you return to Scotland." Laura said urgently.
Sophronia's eyebrows knotted. "Why Aunt Laura? He seems a perfect gentleman!"
"All I can tell you is Edward has a lot of concerns to deal with, it is complicated...so is he! He is not for you!" Laura declared, her arm waving in the air. Edward went down the hall; an agitated Sabrina grabbed his arm and forced him into a nearby room.
"What do you think you are doing?" she hissed. "You are pathetic! Mina is out of your reach, so you are talking to my idiot cousin, Sophronia? What are you up to, Edward Van Helsing?" "Stay out of my affairs, Sabrina, this has nothing to do with you! I will not discuss my life with you! You have no say whatsoever!" Edward thundered.
"And what of your son? Have you even seen him this evening?" Sabrina cried.
"My son...!" Edward scoffed. "Victor has told me of his abhorrent behaviour in the playroom, like mother like son!" Edward spat. "This is not the time or place to discuss Aidan. Edward, come over next week, we must talk about him. I need your input!" Sabrina asked pleadingly.
Edward sighed. "Very well, I will be over next Tuesday evening to discuss the boy, nothing more." He turned and left Sabrina; a small cunning smile began to form on her face. Late one night, a few days after the party at Victor's and Carolina's, and several months after Jon was first reported missing, Verity was having a very vivid dream, the same dream she had most nights, Jon was reaching out for her, trying to say something...his handsome face staring at her lovingly. But she could not hear what he was saying, his lips did not move, but he tried to speak to her nonetheless.
Verity groaned, the sweat running down her forehead. She thrashed about in her bed, still asleep. Finally the voice said..."I'm alive..." Verity screamed and leapt from her bed, she began to sob...it seemed so real! From down the hall, a concerned Vic hearing the piercing cries, and ran into Verity's bedroom.
"Verity! What is it?" Vic exclaimed, his voice laced with concern. Verity ran into Vic's arms. 'Oh it was horrible! Jon was trying to speak to me, finally he said 'I'm alive', Vic, it seemed so real! Like he was here in the room!"
Vic patted her back. 'There, there, it was a nightmare, nothing more. Do not distress yourself further. Relax Verity." he said soothingly in his deep voice. Vic pulled her closer, it felt wonderful having Verity in his arms. They stood for the longest time. Finally, Verity's quiet sobs began to subside. All at once she felt funny, somewhat uncomfortable. She felt safe, protected...but she found she was enjoying being enveloped in Vic's strong arms.
Verity quickly and abruptly pulled away. "I think I will go get some hot milk, that should help me get back to sleep. Thank you Vic, but I think I can manage from here." Verity said quietly.
She turned and left the room rather quickly, leaving Vic in a confused state, his emotions were churning wildly...what was he feeling? This was absurd! Deep in France, in a bombed out cathedral turned hospital, a overworked and dedicated Dr. LeClerc and Sister Maria look after the poor wounded soldiers, most of them British. Their wounds are physical and physcological in nature, and they deal with them to the best of their ability. "This is an especially interesting case, this poor man was found wandering miles from the trenches, no identification disc, his uniform all but blown off. He has been in and out of a coma for months. When he is awake, he cannot recall his name, or even remember he is a soldier!" Dr. LeClerc said worriedly. "Have you asked about the regiments? Surely they must have men missing with his general description!" Sister Maria asked.
"They move around so much, and there are so many men reported missing, no way to identify them all! All we can do is wait until he awakens again, perhaps his memory will come back." The Doctor shook his head sadly. Sister Maria looked down at the handsome man deep in a coma in his bunk. There was something about him that stirred her deeply; she could not explain it. She would keep a sharp eye on him, see to his comforts, help him recover. Jon Van Helsing lay in his bunk...while in his coma,
his brain was racing, people's faces were clicking by, but he could not recognize any of them. Places, memories...they meant nothing, nothing was familiar. He groaned slightly.

~~I noticed after I uploaded that When I dressed the Sim playing Sister Maria, I left all her makeup on, LOL! Fixed now...and I had planned one course of action for a particular Sim, but I could not bring myself to do it. Now I am glad I didn't! More story possibilities! Thanks to all those who create such great CC, or a story like this would not be possible! And thanks to you for sticking with me on this continuing tale!

A little sad to see Victor's role is diminishing, but that was always inevitable, and the new characters are still engaging. I am wondering when we are due a confrontation between Raynor and Dracula, and some account of the circumstances of his "conversion", but don't feel obliged to rush it on my account.
Some real pathos in this one, especially with Jane and Carolina. Much as I don't feel Victor deserves any more loss and suffering, I do hope he stays true to his ideals, though (besides which, I suspect he might be put off by the thought of Carolina vastly outliving him, should he follow daddy's plan for her...). But that's your business.

I was glad to see that Jon is still alive, even if in a coma. At least in that case there is hope. The ones I feel most sorry for are Victor and Verity, I could see that situation starting to brew in the last installment, and it's perfectly natural ( I know that sounds strange, but man is a social creature) I think there has always been love there between those two, it just needed to be brought to their notice. They are both strong characters, and I have no doubts they will behave and do the right thing.
I just love reading these tales of yours, the CC is perfect. You must spend hours searching for the right item! and the pictures! What more can be said?

The story I've been waitting for
It's so beautiful how you developed the characters, especially Dracula (who at first was so blinded by his need for revenge) and Raynor (who looks so evil and heartless at first). I really hope Mina and Raynor will pluck some courage to admit what they've been feeling
Sabrina and Aidan.. *sigh*.. I hope the little brat will grow up better in the future. And I agree with Edward, what right does she have to tell him what to do!
So happy, ecstatic, glad, jubilant (erm.. well you get the point) that Jon is alive. Why do I sense a Pearl Harbour-like thing going on between Jon-Verity-Vic (Ben Affleck-Kate Beckinsale-Josh Hartnett dejavu)???? Hmmmm... Beautiful writing and fantastic pictures.. I can't get enough, LOL!

Awww, having a Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett flashback! I love the interaction between Mina and Raynor! Much more complex character than he first appeared! And I don't dislike her so much anymore, either, LOL!
The shots of Dracula standing on the parapet are absolutely stunning -- the lighting, the sweep of the landscape, really gorgeous!
This continues to be so much fun to read and follow -- beautiful men, fascinating characters, and such lovely shots!

Great! I think you should do something, like make a book! I mean, you'd be good enough! But I just noticed, when Vic runs in after Verity's nightmare, his nose looks all freaky!

Another wonderful chapter! Although Raynor and Mina are growing on me, I am fairly certain that relationship will only end in more heartache. Especially if Dracula gets wind of Raynor! You have woven the characters' lives together so beautifully. It gets more intriguing with each chapter! Fabulous!

Wonderfully done, you weave such intricate plots using all your characters (who are well fleshed out, by the way!)Great to see Dracula used a little more, he is one of the most fascinating, though Raynor is also developing nicely. Using history as your backdrop has added a real 'Saga' feel to your tale! And I see poor Victor has heartbreak ahead, and you are right, keeping Jon alive opens up much more story possibilities! Well done!

Hi Karen,
Outstanding chapter! Especially found 'Raynor & Mina's' discord
'deliciously disfunctional'. The next generation are adorable especially the twins 'Garrard & Gabrielle'. Keep up the excellent writing each chapter gets more & more exciting!
Cheers mate!

Hmm...I believe I feel a plot twist coming on.
Wonderfully written with beautiful sets as usual. I especially love how tender Dracula seems to become as time goes on...

Great job as always! I do miss Victor's strong role, but that was indeed inevitable. Beautifully written, I love all the character dynamics! Lots of unexpected twists, but not in a corny or forced way. And I, too, am a fan of Mina and Raynor, of course.

The way you've brought out Dracula's emotions recently...wonderful! And Victor and Carolina...watching her age while he remains so magnetic and handsome- I LOVE it! Your writing flows more and more with every chapter. Girl, you make it look effortless! I hope everyone realizes how hard you work on your stories. Your pics are fantastic. I love the little details like the bread loaf and tea set. The end reminds me of The English Patient, which I love! I have so much to say, I'll have to PM you, LOL!

Very interesting conflict going on with Verity and her possibly dead husband. I did notice the nun's makeup. I had to chuckle at that.

It seems Raynor and Mina are a bit stubborn, aren't they?
Part of me wishes that they would admit that they love each other and part of me wishes that she would escape Raynor's clutches and flee to Edward. Ah, decisions, decisions! Verity and Victor look quite good together, too, but to say it would be wrong would be an understatement. I do hope they will find Jon still alive soon, for her sake. I don't think I would be able to resist Vic's good looks!
Great writing, Karen!!!! As always, YOU'RE THE BEST!

Brilliant!!! lovely pictures!! Vic grew up into a very very handsome man!! lol, i never saw his face that close (when he's talking to verity)
it must be very painful for Victor to see his wife aging
and it must be even harder for her:'( such a sad love story
You did a marvelous job as you always do
Please let me know when next chapter is out!!!

so happy to know John is alive, hopefully Verity wont do anything stupid (meaning wont betray John with his best friend Vic) LOL...
Aidan is just as his mother, i wonder what Sabrina is planning to do next...
And I'm thinking, probably Dracula's Mina was or is Raynor's Mina... such a love triangle there!!
But its really good to know that Edwars is over Mina, I still dont like her at all, i just can believe she was willing to leave her little baby boy with Raynor... such a heartless and cruel mother.. lol...
Great job!!!

I've been away from your stories way too long! This is the first of the Van Helsing chronicles I've had the pleasure of reading. I'm guessing these are the orginal VAn Helsing's children and grandchildren and it looks like WWI? I do love your attention to period detail!

I did recognize the evil vicor from one of your other stories.
As always, just an incredible job. Truly.

Verity ? don?t you know these dreams are always portents! I fear Jon?s eventual homecoming will not be a happy one. As for Mina and Raynor ? the romantic in me desperately wants one of them to take a chance and reach out to the other. Come on Raynor, it?s your turn.
