Something ate my Sims! Part 2
Blogpost added Sep 28, 2008, read 60 times
Well I don't know what happened, but my game self-destructed a few days ago and I still can't figure out what's wrong. It just, all of a sudden, started telling me it's not installed! So now I'm trying to find the box where I stored my older game discs (the base game, NL, UNI, OFB, Pets and Seasons) so I can reinstall the whole thing. I think the box was brown... :(

My suspicion: Welcome to SecurHell. All you need to do is find the real Sims executable for the most recent EP, not the Launcher.
If that doesn't fix it (or you can't find the real executable): Go to My Documents/EA Games, and rename The Sims 2 folder, to protect your Hoods and Downloads. If you have a lot of custom build items, don't forget to find and move or backup the files in Program FilesEA GAMESThe Sims 2TSDataResLightsScriptorium_CustomLights, Program FilesEA GAMESThe Sims 2TSDataResCatalogScriptsScriptorium_Fireplaces, Program FilesEA GAMESThe Sims 2TSDataResCatalogScriptsScriptorium_ModularStairs, and Program FilesEA GAMESThe Sims 2TSDataResCatalogScriptsScriptorium_Walls-Fences-Arches. Then you can safely reinstall.

I had this problem a few times, and I've lost a lot of neighbourhoods. Last time I used the SimPE to backup my hoods and now everything is fine. All you need is to now the original order of hoods. For example my first custom hood is Ipswich, than Kazaxtan, and so on. After reinstall the game, you have to recreate the hoods in the original order (doesn't matter the hood's map or anything, only the names and the order), than restore the hoods from backups.
Maybe you already know this, but I didn't, and I've lost lot of my beloved simmys and valuable architectural works because of this unknowing
Good luck and have a nice day!
