Part 51 was rejected, so I had to take it back and do some minor changes. So, I've put 51 and 52 together. Hope you don't mind! The doorbell rings just as Eryn puts the last load of laundry into the dryer. She glances at the microwave, taking notice of the time, and then hurries for the door. "Can I help..." She asks the stranger. "Emery?!" She gasps in horror and in shock.

"Hello, sister." He smiles up at her with that goofy smile he's always had.
"What in the world are you doing on my porch?! ...in a wheelchair! ...is this a joke?!" She starts shrieking random nonsense. "No jokes, Eryn. I'm here...with a Purple Heart Medal and an Honroable Discharge from the Military." He smiles almost proudly.

"What...happened to you?" She looks down at him, he is otherwise normal.

"Just misfortunes, but thankful for missed targets." He grins at her.

"Can you walk?" She asks, looking down at his legs.

"Oh sure...but not for long." He shrugs his shoulders. "It's best I stay in my chair."

"...can you stand long enough to give me a hug?" She asks sadly.
He rises to his feet slowly, as though he'd not done it in years, and embraces his sister for the first time in such a long, long, time. "Why don't you come inside?" Eryn offers. "The boys will be home soon."

"...I can't wait to meet him, Eryn." Emery sighs heavily.

"...and he can't wait to meet you." She smiles kindly, knowing how excited Fletcher is going to be.

"You think he'll be disappointed?" Emery questions quietly, feeling his heart breaking piece by piece.

"Anything but, borther." Eryn turns to face the door, and holds it open for him to wheel through.
About an hour later, the bus arrives at the usual time and lets the boys off. They take about four steps inside and notice a man sitting in their living room in a wheelchair. Eryn rises to her feet to face them. "Guys, this is my brother...Emery." She tells them softly taking notice of Fletcher's stunned facial expression. Emery stares at his nearly grown son in disbelief that he'd been gone for so long.

"Uhh...hey." Frye spits out.

"Frye, let's go outside and leave them alone for a little while, besides...we need to talk about your midnight rendevous last night with those girls." She smiles sweetly at him.

"How do you know about that?!" He shrieks.

"Honey, I'm a mother." She smiles proudly as she takes his arm and leads him outside to lecture him.
"I'm Fletcher." Fletcher smiles down at his father in pure amazement. "I've been waiting for this my whole life..." He says softly with a queasy stomach. "...I have, too." Emery tells him. "Come on, sit down..." He motions for Fletcher to sit. Fletcher stares straight ahead, not wanting to be rude.

"You scared to look at me?" Emery asks with a smile.

"I just have so many questions...I figure, some of 'em may make sense if I'm not looking at you thinking up new one's." Fletcher laughs nervously, almost ready to puke.
"...you have no idea who glad I am to be here. I finally get to meet you...and my nephew...and hug my sister and shake hands with her husband. I never thought this day would come. When I was wounded...I knew it was the end for me. But, sometimes...sometimes life has a funny way of making you appreciate it." Emery rambles on. "I was beginning to think I was never coming home. I gave up fighting for it because I felt it was no use. But, when I was wounded...it was a miracle that it was just a wound. Sure, I can barely walk...but, I am here...with my family again." Emery wipes a tear from his eye. "Whoa man!" Fletcher squeaks. "I am not ready for this part yet!" "I'm sorry." Emery starts laughing. "I'm just...happy."

"Me, too, man. Me, too." Fletcher joins him in laughing, thankful that he finally gets the opportunity to meet his dad.

***
It's been a few months since Emery returned home, and the group of teens are growing closer and closer together. Every FRiday night is game night, and all day Saturday is spent at the beach. Ree and Fletcher are nothing more than simple aquaintances, while Frye and Kenzi have HUGE plans together. Frye talks nonstop about Kenzi to everyone he knows, and while Fletcher is tried of hearing of it, he's happy for his best friend. Frye hints that Ree and Fletcher should get together, but Ree is just so blank and uninterested. The topic of Prom is brought up, and Kenzi votes that Fletcher take Ree. Ree shoots an evil glare over at her half-sister and continues to play as though nothing were ever said.

"No, I'm serious." Kenzi smiles back at her. "Frye and I are going, it'd onlym ake sense for the two of you to go together."

"I'm not going, Kenzi. Knock it off." Ree stares down at the llama.

"Ree! You're being silly! It's PROM we're talking about!" Kenzi laughs in disbelief.

"Yeah, and I'm not going with him!" Ree says very loudly out of nowhere.
The table silences and Fletcher leans back in his chair in utter shock.

"What's wrong with Fletcher?" Frye asks. Ree looks araound the table nervously.

"...it's not him. It's not you. It's not anyone. I just am not going." Ree stutters and rises from the table quickly and storms to the kitchen.
A few minutes later, Fletcher joins her in the kitchen.

"If it's not me, who is it?" He asks sternly.

"...I'm not going, Fletcher. End of story." She states firmly back to him.
"Why are you so stubborn?" Fletcher raises his tone in anger. "Why do you insist on being lonely and bored all the time?! Why can't you just for once...one time in your whole friggin' life do something exciting for a change!?"

She listens silently. His words cut deep, he's right and she knows it.
"Ree, seriously. There's no sense in not going. What do you have to do? Read? Take a bath?" He joines her at the window. "I've neer met anyone as stubborn as you."

"...Fletcher, it's her. She's the reason I'm not going. She's the reason I insist on being solitary. I can't do anything as good as she can. I can't look as good in anything as she can. My mother would rather I ran away, because I am not as good as Kenzi. I am constantly compared to and picked on because I'm not even half the girl she is. It is hard...to be so stubborn." She tells him softly, and like a swift kick in the gut, Fletcher is left speechless.
"...then, do something about it." Fletcher finally pops in. "If it's so hard to be stubborn...so hard to say no...say yes for a change. Stop challenging her...stop demolishing your self-esteem because you aren't just like her...be yourself. Who cares what your mother says? ...she gave birth to a diamond, and boy that diamond could really shine...but, then...she stopped polishing it...and it stopped sparkling and shining...and your spirit...it's faded away."

Ree stares out at the ocean through the winows, a small tear rolls down her cheek. Fletcher sighs heavily, and heads back to the table.
"Fletcher..." Ree calls just before he rounds the corner. He stops and listens with a hopeful heart. "...will you ask me to go with you." She asks quietly. She meets him in the middle of the room.

"I sure will." He smiles kindly as en enormouse smile forms across her face.

This is the end of Part 51.
Fletcher nervously shifts his weight on the couch. The suit is stiff, but not near as stiff as his bones as longs as he's been sitting there waiting for his date.

Kenzi and Frye both stare out the windows looking for her, but she doesn't show.
Ree turns and stands int he middle of the room.

"Did she say she was even coming?!" Frye groans impatiently.

"Yes...as I was leaving, she said she'd be another 5 minutes." Kenzi glares at him.
"I'm sure she's coming, Fletch. She just has a lot of fixing up to do." Kenzi laughs rudely. The comment hit Fletcher the wrong way, but he's too nervous to do anything about it.

A few more minutes, the door bell finally rings and Kenzi hurries over.
"Ree?!" Kenzi gasps in horror. "You can't be serious!" She stares down at her dress. "What?" Ree asks nervously, already having puked three times. "I don't do girly, Kenzi."

"Well, you're certainly not going like that!" Kenzi shrieks quietly. She grabs Ree by the arm and pulls her out the door and heads for the house. "We'll be right back boys!" She shouts behind her as she leaves dragging Ree behind her.

***
The girls return about an hour later, and the guys are speechless.

"Wow..." Fletcher coughs.

"Plese, no autographs." Kenzi smiles proudly.

"I don't know what to say..." Fletcher just stands and stares at his date completely madeover.
"Did you hear that, Ree?" Kenzi looks over at her. "I'd say they're impressed." Ree, too nervous to move, shakes viciously in one of Kenzi's dresses. "Wow is right, she looks good." Frye agrees while Fletcher stares on in amazement.

"Fletcher, can you just stop staring?!" Ree chokes nervously on her words. "My gosh...I'm already nervous as it is."
"Sorry, I just can't help it." He laughs and looks away.

"Well, are we ready to go now? Almost two hours late?!" Frye asks the group, and everyone agrees it's finally time to head to the prom.

***
After the Prom, the group heads down to the beach for some late night swimming. Fletcher and Ree hesitate as the water is quite chilly at this hour.

"Look, I'll walk in with you. We'll do it together." Ree smiles out at the ocean.

"But, it's soooo cold." Flecther whines.

"Don't be a sissy, come on." Ree grabs his arm, and pulls him in after her.
They reach the edge of the water, and they slowly walk down the bank to where they can no longer touch the bottom. Ree swims out as far as he can, and stops to admire the view.

"I would love to live on the beach." Ree smiles. "It is just so relaxing and calm. Or even the mountains...nothing suburban for me."

"I gave to agree. I don't like ordinary either." He tells her. "Kind of like you." He blurts out unintentionally.

"What?" She asks him to repeat what he'd just said.

"I said I don't like ordinary things." He tries to cover.

"Oh..." She mutters, and swims away.

Meanwhile, up on the shore, things weren't as pleasant.

"I'm not saying you did it or not, Kenzi. I just want to know the truth. I was told you and Jacob weren't acting like you were only friends." Frye tries to reaso with her.

"Frye, come on. Are you going to believe some girl who wants to date you just as bad as anyone else?" Kenzi scoffs. "Besides, what does it matter anyway?" She asks him. "I'm here with you now, aren't I?"

"Yeah, but you should have been with me the whole time...not with someone else making-out." He tells her sternly. She brushes past him angrily.
"I can't be tamed, Frye. I told you that long ago. But you were so full of yourself, you didn't see it." She insults him after being caught in the wrong earlier in the night.

"...loyalty doesn't mean anything to you?!" He asks her quietly.

"Oh, Frye. I've never been loyal to anything in my life...including you." She states bluntly.

"What in the heck is that supposed to mean?!" He gasps.
"...this is the first time, Frye. It probably won't be the last. I'm just being honest with you, love. Isn't that what you wanted?" She looks at him sweetly.

"Kenzi...you're unbelieveable." He shakes his head in disbelief.

"Rest assured, Frye. I will always come back to you...you're a great guy with a lot of heart. I love that about you." She smiles again.

"...Kenzi, you're acting like you've done nothing wrong!?" He raises his voice.

"...it's my lifestyle, and for me...that is not wrong." She shrugs her shoulders.

***
"I heard you and Kenzi arguing earlier, is everything okay?" Fletcher asks once the girls had gone home.

"Yeah, we're fine." Frye lies as he fills a glass of water.

"You know, if you never need to talk...Frye." Fletcher starts his sentence.
"I know, I know. You're there." Frye replies flatly and walks past Fletcher and takes a swig.
