Description
Only legitimate son of Henry VIII and his third wife, Jane Seymour. Edward inherited the throne at about ten years old and died at nearly sixteen having been a paun of first his Seymour uncles then the Dudleys of Northumberland. In order to maintain the new Church of England, Edward incited a short lived civil war by naming his cousin Jane Grey his successor instead of his sister Mary, an act which cost Jane Grey her life and gave her a place in history as the "Nine Day's Queen".
