For the September 2006 FA Theme Week -- Posh Sims. Beverly Johnson was the first African-American woman to appear on the cover of the French ELLE. She is often referred to as the first African-American model on the cover of Vogue. But, in fact, that was Donyale Luna. Beverly Johnson does, however, hold the honor of being the first Black woman on the cover of the American edition of Vogue.
