Hi! This is Part 1 of my story about Skip Roper and Rosemarie Ng. If you didn't read the intro (When Skip Met Rosemarie), you might want to do that now.
"Yeah, but this will just take a minute," she said, trying to seem as though she didn't notice he was half naked. "I wanted to know if I did something to offend you."
"Well, barging in here without knocking wasn't too cool," he blurted.
"No, I mean... well, you aren't speaking to me. Are you mad at me?" she asked with genuine concern.
"Mad? At you? No! No way. I just..." his voice trailed off and he looked nervous. Neither of them said anything for a moment, then for some reason they both began to laugh. They laughed at nothing in particular for quite some time. Once they had both caught their breath, Skip admitted to Rosemarie that the reason he'd been giving her so much space was that he didn't want to come on too strong. She said she had been doing the same thing, then they both shared a laugh at the fact that one might say she had done just that by walking into his room uninvited. After that conversation, things between them were more like they had been when they first met. They spent a lot of time talking, hanging out, and just building up a great friendship. They took turns cooking meals so they always got to eat together. And once or twice they went to the clubs together... they'd both say they wanted to meet people (potential love interests), but neither of them was really looking too hard. But one night though, Rosemarie did meet a guy she liked and she decided to bring him home for coffee that night. Skip felt absolutely sick seeing her talk to another guy... he was honest to goodness jealous. When they did get home, Rosemarie and her date sat on the couch to talk, and Skip stood around the corner listening. He hoped Rosemarie wasn't serious about him... he really hoped she'd just send that slob home already. Rosemarie started to get the feeling she was being watched, so she told her date goodnight and went to talk to Skip, asking him what he thought of they guy.
"You're like my best friend now... even if I have only known you for a while. But... I could never date someone you didn't approve of... especially when I'm not too sure how I'll feel about him," she spilled.
"Well, to tell you the truth, something about him rubs me the wrong way," he said cautiously. "He seems kinda like he may just be on the make."
Rosemarie hugged Skip for being so honest with her and later went to bed. After that she didn't see that guy anymore. In fact, after that neither of them went to the clubs anymore. Not long after that day, Skip and Rosemarie decided to throw a small housewarming party. Skip was so worried of Rosemarie meeting another guy that he didn't invite a single one of his frat brothers, even though he was still good friends with them all. Instead he only invited his parents, who met Rosemarie for the first time. The party was nice... they all had a lovely dinner and Skip gave his folks a tour of the place. Skip's mother really hit it off with Rosemarie. He was worried her overprotective nature would make her see Rosemarie as something she wasn't. It was important to him that his parents (his mother especially) be comfortable with him living with Rosemarie. Before they left, Skip?s parents gave him a housewarming gift - a bottle of wine. His parents knew he wasn't much of a drinker, but they figured he'd save it for a special occasion. He put the bottle away and didn?t give it a second thought. As the time passed, Skip felt himself growing more and more attracted to Rosemarie, but he was certain she didn?t want him for anything more than a friend. And she didn?t make it any easier on him? she always seemed to be wearing her underwear or something else that would set his mind on an impure course. Seeing her like that made it hard for Skip to keep his mind on propriety. One morning a few days after their housewarming, Skip decided to be brave and ask Rosemarie how she felt about him. He walked up to her and started talking.
?So, uh, hey you?? he stammered.
?Hi Skip. What?s up?? she replied.
?Um, you know. Nothing? Yeah. Nothing,? he managed.
?Okay?? she laughed. ?Is something on your mind??
?Well, um actually??
He was so nervous he couldn?t even think straight, and he couldn?t manage to say anything that made sense. After a few more minutes of muttering, he told her he didn?t have anything on his mind after all and he walked away. Skip felt so silly. Here he was a college graduate and he was acting like a junior high school boy with a crush. He sat by himself for a while trying to decide whether or not he should say anything to Rosemarie at all. He was scared that things between them would get awkward if he made a move and she turned him down. And besides, they had decided before they moved in to be "just friends" anyways... But the truth was that Rosemarie felt the same way about him. She had never met a guy that was so considerate and nice... and no one made her laugh the way Skip did. Rosemarie couldn't help but wonder what exactly Skip was trying to say with all that babbling, but she knew she had to put it out of her mind. She was worried, just like Skip was, that the attraction wasn't mutual. Skip decided though that he had no reason to fear rejection. He and Rosemarie were quite close? something as silly as him asking her for a date couldn?t possibly ruin their friendship. Skip was ready to be the confidant kind of man he?d always wanted to be, so he decided to ask Rosemarie to go out with him. What was the worst that could happen? So the next night while she was watching television, he walked right up to her? ?and before he could say anything, the power went out. There was a really nasty rain and thunderstorm going on outside, and it?s a miracle the power hadn?t switched off sooner. The two then quickly grabbed some candles and sat down together. ?So Skip, what were you going to say?? Rosemarie asked him with a warm smile on her face.
?Um, well? I kinda wanted to be able to see you a little better for this?? Skip was getting nervous again.
?Hey, Skip, whatever it is you can tell me. We?re friends, and I?ll hear anything you need to tell me,? she said sweetly, placing her hand on top of Skip?s.
"Well... I don't really know how to say this..." Skip stammered. Rosemarie could tell he was nervous and figured he had something pretty heavy on his mind.
"Hey, is that bottle of wine your folks gave us still here?" she asked.
"Yeah, I put it away in the fridge... why?" he asked suspiciously.
"I don't think you're supposed to put wine in the fridge," she laughed. She got the bottle out and opened it, telling him they may as well open it then since there wasn't much else to do, but really she hoped it would help him relax long enough to talk to her. She poured two glasses and they both sipped slowly.
Skip was still feeling a little apprehensive about what he wanted to say to her, so they made small talk for a while and drank the wine. Rosemarie had always found thunderstorms terrifying since she was a little girl, so she was happy to have company.
"You know Skip, I'm really glad you're here. I mean, that we're here... together," she said warmly.
"Well, I'm always glad you're here," he replied with a smile. They finished the bottle of wine and kept on talking for quite some time. ?Rosemarie, do you?? Skip began before Rosemarie interrupted, saying: ?I?d really like it if you called me Rosie. All my friends used to, and so did my folks??
?Okay,? Skip began cautiously with a smile, ?Rosie, do you think that you and I were meant to meet? Like maybe it was fate that you showed up at my party??
?Maybe you and I were meant to be the best of friends,? she cooed with a smile as she moved a little closer to him.
Because he was feeling oddly more confidant than normal, Skip said something more forward than he would normally. ?Maybe we were meant to be more?? he began.
Rosemarie tenderly stroked the side of his face before pecking him lightly on the lips. They both smiled, and Skip put his arm around her as they shared a real passionate kiss on the sofa. ?I?ve wanted this since we met,? he admitted in a whisper as they continued kissing.
?Me too,? she sighed. ?I?m kind of crazy about you?? After a little while more of kissing and whispering romantic things to one another they decided to retire to Skip?s bedroom.

Well WOW Skip is gorgeous! I like the slow and careful interaction between them; the great use of the hack to seat them looking at each other on the couch (beautiful shot)! I don't understand the problem with the quotes: I've seen other people struggle with that. Has to be some sort of setting somewhere, but beyond my technical ability to resolve. I have to say I was so taken with the story I didn't even notice it until I read the comments, though. Very good job!

I love the way you built the relationship up slowly , a very good read.. Another writer had problems with ?marks . I think it was something to do with the spell check she had used. I was so into the story I never noticed till I read the comment. Keep writing

Great story, are you doing another part? I thought it was cute how they took so long to realise... but it's also really realistic too. How did you get them to sit on the couch like that i loved that shot! Look forward to the next part, if there is one.
