Life in the bunker: Day 9
Life in the bunker: Day 9

I have decided to start a journal to log the various happenings of this strange situation, in the hope that it may keep me sane and give me something else to concentrate other than trying to stop Leona from eating our entire food supplies.

It is 9 days since we all entered this place following the radio broadcasts, and to be frank, it is entirely possible we may be the only living residents of Sunset valley. I've still got no idea exactly what happened, just that there was a "government advisory notice" broadcast on the radio ordering all residents to immediately drop whatever they were doing and head to this so-called "vault". To be honest, I thought it was a wind-up, some kid hacking the signal or something, but I was bored, so off I went.

I was the fifth person to arrive at what can only be described as a concrete bunker, with stairs leading into a hole deep in the earth (how this was built without anyone noticing is anyone's guess, but there you go. In hindsight all I can say is, I'm glad it was). There were no government officials or anything around, just a speaker on the wall insisting any people gathered outside were to head into the bunker and await further instructions. After debating it amongst ourselves for a minute or two, we basically decided why not, and in we went.

We'd only been down there a couple of minutes, idly chatting away, when a commotion drew our eyes back to the stairs: A load bang of metal on metal, and something (or someone, as it turned out... our 6th "housemate") bouncing down the stairs. At that moment, there was the loudest explosion I've ever heard, and the ground shook more violently than any earthquake I'd experienced, knocking us all off our feet... then complete silence.

We slowly got up, then checked on our newest resident (although I didn't know then we'd have to live here). He was badly bruised after rolling down the stairs, and only manged to say 3 words before blacking out: "Ostbury's gone bang". No-one spoke after that, we were all thinking the same thing anyway no doubt. "Ostbury" could only mean one thing, the Ostbury nuclear power plant, up by Nuptar ridge. "Gone bang", most likely either a reactor meltdown, or some other kind of highly radioactive situation. Whichever, there's no doubt in my mind that this strange concrete edifice saved our lives.

Over the next few days I started to get to know my fellow cohabitants in this small concrete cell.

I'll start with Brandon, simply because I've kind of already introduced him: he's the one that fell down the stairs. I find him slightly ... odd, to put it kindly. He seems to spend most of his time either talking to himself, or telling others how he "hopes his plants survived". He also seems to break pretty much anything he touches.

Next up, Leona. I've already mentioned how she has a tendency to want to eat anything she sees, but she also deserves a special award of some kind for the sheer lack of effort she puts into anything. A couple of days ago she also asked why we couldn't "go back outside now the banging's gone away"? So, lazy and stupid... I don't think we'll get on too well.

As for Buffy, I don't really know too much about her. She doesn't seem to sleep well, and any time I try to talk to her she always seems to want to do something else. I don't know whether she just doesn't like me, or if she'd rather do something practical. She's doing everything she can to cheer people up when they get upset though, and she does morning excercises with Andy, so she must be OK.

Andy, as I mentioned above, likes exercising in the mornings with Buffy. He normally starts later than her though, he tends to sleep in a lot. We've chatted quite a bit about the solitary PC in this place, and plan to contact the outside world with it if we can get through the firewalls that are blocking us.

Finally, Annabelle. Where do I start, she's one of the nicest people I've ever met, always has a joke when you need one (and even when you don't). She also seems to have some kind of plan to help us get out of this place and back into normality (if she can get her nose out of a book long enough to put it into action). I've no idea what it could be, but with the level of intelligence and logic she's showing, I trust her completely.

Nothing much else of interest has happened, so I'll sign off for now and pick this up next time I need to gather my thoughts (or something interesting occurs that requires documenting).
