"Sierra, I'm bored." Nora exclaimed one day.
"Ha, that's funny Nora", Sierra giggled.
"Why?" Nora Board was Sierra's best friend, but Sierra was often amazed at Nora's lack of intelligence.
"Um, Nora...you're bored? You're Nora Board...get it? Bored, Board...? Never mind." Sierra sighed.
"Yeah, yeah, I get it," Nora huffed...but she didn't.
"You know," Nora went on, "Chip does whatever he wants. Just last month he gave up his seat on the bench, he was a Court Justice, you know, to do what? Become a cop!" He makes half the money and works twice the hours, but he's happy. And me, I'm just bored with life. I need something more." Nora was near tears. "Nora, look around you! You have a beautiful family. Your twins are gorgeous and talented and smart. Your husband treats you like a queen, what more could you want!" Sierra thought of their friend Penny who went from one bad relationship to the next. Nora thought of her kids and Chip. They were a great family. Chip was a great father and Bill and Bella adored him. Then the idea hit her. That night, and for several times after that fateful day, when ever Chip got that special look in his eye, Nora was there for him and she sort of "skimped" on the protection. Sure enough, it wasn't long before she was announcing to the family that a new baby was on the way. Chip was elated and the kids seemed to warm to the idea. "Dad, is Mom really gonna have another baby?" Bill asked his father one evening during their regular chess game.
"Sure, son. Don't you think that will be great?" Chip inquired.
"Gee, Dad, I don't know. What if it's twins again?" Bill laughed.
Chip thought that over and smiled. The more he thought about it, the more he was sure that would be just fine. Meanwhile, Nora was rethinking her rash decision. The idea of having a new baby was exciting, but she had forgotten how horrible it felt to BE pregnant...especially right at first. When she wasn't eating everything in the fridge, or throwing up everything she ate, she was laying around on the sofa exhausted. "Daddy?" Bella came to her father one afternoon.
"Yes, princess?" his heart warmed for his little girl.
"Daddy, I don't want Mommy to have a new baby" she whimpered, her bottom lip quivering.
"Aw, sweetie, it's going to be fun!" he replied lightly. "Don't you want to be a big sister?"
"NO" she cried and ran from the room. "Sierra, guess what!" Nora practically bubbled.
"What!" Sierra could tell her friend was bursting at the seams with news.
"I'm pregnant!" Nora gushed, but then a sadness passed across her face.
Sierra, noticing the mood change said, "And?"
"And Bella is furious about it!" I don't know what to do. Bill tried to talk to his twin about the new baby.
"Hey Bella, we're gonna be the big brother and big sister! That will be so cool. We can boss the new kid around! Hehehe..." Bill cried out with glee.
"I don't want to talk about it." Bella replied adamantly. She wouldn't disclose why she hated the idea. "...and then Country was born..." Dusty Rhodes was on a roll, telling stories of his childhood when the truth smacked Nora right in the face. Bella had heard Dusty's stories of how his parents wanted nothing more than the next baby and after the child got past toddlerhood, his parent's weren't interested in them any more. Dusty had a tough childhood and he isn't close to his parents. Bella was afraid! Suddenly, Nora needed to get back home. Once Nora figured it out, she and Chip had a heart-to-heart with Bella.
"Sweetie, we need to talk about the baby." Nora started.
"No," Bella insisted, "I don't want to." And she pouted. "Honey, Daddy and I think we know what you are feeling" Nora told her.
"Pumpkin, listen to me. I know that Dusty Rhodes loves to talk about how horrible his childhood was. He had parents who were very selfish." Chip added.
"Bella, Daddy and I love you and we aren't having another baby because we are tired of you and Bill" Nora went on. The three of them contined to talk. Nora admitted that the stories of Dusty Rhodes and his horrible relationship with parents who continued to churn out baby after baby...half of whom ran away from home...had affected her thoughts.
"You and Daddy will still love Bill and me, right Mom?" Bella queried.
With that, Nora hugged her little girl tight.
"Of course, baby, you will always be my special little girl", Nora whispered in her ear. With tears streaming down her cheeks, she pushed her face into Bella's hair, loving the clean "little girl" scent of her first born daughter.
"You're going to be a super 'big sis', Bella", Nora told her.
Bella smiled. Nora called Sierra to tell her the scoop. As it turned out, Sierra had some news of her own. She and Dusty were expecting their second child. She was pregnant too! The two best friends were elated. Nora and Sierra would go through their second pregnancies together this time. Sierra's little girl, Crystal, was only five, but she would start school before the new baby was born. Bill and Bella would be in high school before the new baby started walking. All of a sudden one night, it was time. Chip had taken Bill to a basketball game at the high school and Bella was home alone with her Mom. Nora grabbed her stomach and nearly toppled from the pain. She edged herself to the couch and Bella called the doctor first, then Chip's cell phone. The paramedics arrived before Chip and Bill. The baby cane fast and by the time Chip got home, he had a new daughter. Despite her earlier reservations, Bella was thrilled to have a new sister. Peg Board came into the world as welcome as could be. When the time came, the twins had a stellar birthday party. The Board family had lots of friends over for the kids and everyone had a great time. Bill and Bella could hardly wait to be teenagers. True to Nora's predictions, Bella and Peg bonded completely. Bella loved being a big sister and Peg looked up to her with love and admiration. Bella turned into a beautiful young lady and a great help to her mother. For that matter, Nora and Chip had to admit that they had produced some lovely offspring. Chip began to speak daily about how beautiful their grandchildren were going to be. Bill began showing interest in young ladies in general and in Leila Chovie in particular. Chip and Nora approved of Leila and of Ann, her mother. Ann had been a hard worker, putting herself through culinary school and reaching the top of her career, all while raising her daughter all alone. "Leila, I want you to be mine always", Bill gazed into Leila Chovie's eyes. They dated off an on through high school and now that they were seniors, it was beginning to look serious.
"Oh Billy, you know you're my one and only!" Leila giggled.
Chip and Nora watched the two of them with pride, both thinking what the grandchildren would look like. "Leila, I'm going out for a jog, would you keep an eye on Marcus?" Ann Chovie asked her daughter one afternoon.
"Sure, Mom", Leila agreed. And she smiled to herself. "Hey Billy. It's me, Leila. Can you come over?" she quickly called the Board household.
"Sure, babe, what's up?" Bill asked casually.
"Mom's going jogging and, well...we'd be pretty much alone for awhile. Marcus is here, but he's painting.
"Ooh, sounds like fun! I'll be right over." Leila could hear the smile in his voice. They had been planning this for several months now.
"So, how long do we have?" Bill asked sexily...
"Mom will be gone at least a couple of hours. She's been on this major health kick lately."
"Are you sure we are ready for this?" Bill inquired.
"I'm sure," she purred. But afterward, she wasn't so sure after all. Suddenly, Leila remembered that they hadn't used any protection.
"Bill?...." she said faintly
"Hmmm?" he moaned.
"We forgot the, uh, you know..." And back at home...
"Yikes! Chip! I swear, I wasn't trying this time..." Nora declared as she awoke and discovered that she was expecting a baby...again.
Chip just groaned, rolled over, and went back to sleep. "Mom, Dad, I've decided that I want to go to college." Bella announced one morning at breakfast.
"Well, pumpkin..." Chip told her, "you are going to have to come up with some scholarship money. You know your mama's pregnant again and we just don't have a lot to spare."
"What about you, Bill?" Nora asked her son. "Ha, that's easy!" said Bella. "He's in love with Leila. I know that they are planning to get married as soon as they get out of high school."
Bill blushed a little but didn't disagree. "You know, Nora, I believe that Bill and Leila are getting pretty serious" Chip told his wife.
"I know, Chip" she told him. "I've seen them together. I suspect Bella might be right about them.
Chip sighed. "I just hope they are careful and make it to graduation before that little gal gets herself in trouble.
"I know" sighed Nora. "Ann's a good mother, but not much of a role model." "So what was that crap at the table!" Bill scolded his twin.
"Yeah, deny it, big boy" Bella teased. "Everybody except maybe Peg knows you're sleeping with her. You'd better be careful!"
"I am gonna marry her!" Bill stated emphatically.
"I know" smiled Bella. A month before graduation, Bill took Leila out to dinner at Red's Diner. It was their favorite hang-out.
"Leila, we are going to graduate next month. We have some choices to make. I've thought about this a lot and, well..." Bill pushed a small box across the table to Leila. The waitress, Evelyn, was so touched by the young love that she spent the rest of the evening telling all the customers about the two teens who got engaged at one of her tables. "OH! Bill! This is ... this is... oh...YES! Oh Bill, how soon can we get married?" Leila was beside herself. She had hoped for this, but she was still surprised that he asked her so soon. At the dinner table later that night, Bella announced that she had received enough scholarship money to go to college and that she would be moving out next week.
Then Bill shocked them all.
"I gave Leila a ring tonight." He said softly. "We're getting married."
Nora gasped. First Bella was leaving for college and now Bill wants to get married.
Chip just smiled. The next night, Nora invited Ann and Leila Chovie over for dinner. She had invited Ann's adopted son, Marcus over as well, but he had band practice and couldn't make it.
Bill cleared his throat to get everyone's attention. "Leila and I have an announcement," he started.
"We're getting married!" Leila couldn't contain herself anymore. "Are you gonna be my grandma?" Peg innocently asked Ann.
Ann laughed, "Not exactly, sweetheart, but we'll be family now."
Peg seemed to like that idea. "Ann, welcome to the family" Bill said, as Ann rose to leave. "I believe our kids are going to be very happy."
Ann prepared to go home, but Leila stayed behind. The kids were planning to marry in just under a month and the Boards invited Leila to move in with them, since Bill and Leila would be living there for awhile. "Goodnight, lover" Bill whispered softly. Ann was set up in Bella's old bed until they were married. Peg was already asleep, but she loved the idea of sharing her room with Bill's soon-to-be wife. But late into the night, Leila snuck into Bill's room and curled up next to him. She loved the feel of him next to her and couldn't believe they were so close to being married. And even later into the night, towards morning, Nora's water broke and the baby started coming...
"Chip! Get up! Arghhhh....CHIP!!!!" she cried out.
Chip jumped out of bed and called a cab. He and Nora rushed off into the night without even waking the kids. Late the next evening, Nora and Chip brought home the newest Board...Corky. This time, though, Nora knew she was bringing home her last baby. The doctors found a rare blood disorder that had caused some complications with the birth.
"This is it, Chip. The next baby to come into the house will be our grandchild." Nora said with a slight sadness in her voice. Chip came home at 3:00 one afternoon to find Nora in bed.
"Baby? Why are you in bed in the middle of the day?" he asked her, concern dripping from his voice.
"Chip, sit down hon. I have to talk to you. I'm really sick. I went to the doctor today and I have a tumor from the blood disorder. Chip, I'm afraid I might not see our grandkids..." she broke into tears. Nora moved over and Chip laid down next to her. They talked and talked. She knew she was having trouble with her vision and with muscle aches for weeks, but she attributed it to post-partum symptoms. Now she knew the truth. Chip was devastated. Just a short time later, Chip came home to Nora's dying form. He rushed to her side. Her dying words were, "Tell the kids I love them, and tell Bill to name his first born...Sine...your grandfather..." and with that, she passed away. Bill and Peg were left behind to mourn as the ambulance drove away with their mother. Chip rode with her body to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Their Mom was gone...and little Corky was so young, he'd never know how wonderful she was. At long last, Bill and his beloved Leila were married. The wedding was small with just the two familes and a couple of friends, but it was a beautiful ceremony. Everyone toasted the bride and groom and Chip was sure that Nora was watching. Leila was a lovely bride and Bill couldn't have been happier. "...and to my lovely bride, Leila..." Bill was mid toast.
"Aaaeeeeeeee!!!!!" suddenly Leila screamed and dropped her wine glass.
Chip was shocked. Suddenly, they all saw the ghost of Nora! Chip thought her timing was in very bad taste.
"Whoa! Did you SEE that!" Leila exclaimed. As a knowledge Sim she rather enjoyed the encounter. "...and the train came barreling down the hill. The children screamed in delight as loads of toys overflowed the cars..."
With the newlyweds off on their honeymoon, Chip took a moment to read a bedtime story to his little ones. It was times like this when his heart ached the most for Nora. She would be so proud of how they've grown. Only a few months after the wedding...
"Oh crap...how did this...well (hehe) I *know* how it happened...but...sheesh!" Leila's mind was running a million miles an hour. "Holy cow, Leila, you look terrible. Are you alr.... oh. OH! Leila?" Bill stammered.
"Yep, you guessed it." She stated, rather dejected.
"That's wonderful!" Bill's heart leapt. "Why aren't you happy?"
"I don't know Bill, I guess I just wasn't ready" she sobbed, "Everything is going so fast! I've been raising Cork and finally got him out of diapers and now this. I guess I just wanted a break..." "Congratulations, Mr. Board, we are pleased to accept Peg and Cork into our Academy. I'm sure they will do as well as Bill and Bella did. It's been a real pleasure seeing you again and seeing our young Bill has made such a fine family man. I look forward to coming back in a few years to admit young Bill's children." said Headmaster Christopher Charles. "What do you mean his name is 'Sine'??? What kind of idiotic name is THAT!" Leila screeched.
"Its my GRANDFATHER'S name!" Bill shouted back adamantly. :And that's my son's name. Period"
"Why on earth would I name MY son Sine?" Leila snapped back.
"Because he is MY son too and he bears MY last name..." Bill started, then continued quietly "...and it was my mother's dying wish." He hung his head to hide his tears. "I'm sorry, Bill" Leila whispered. "I know your mother's death still hurts. She was a wonderful lady."
"It's okay, Leila, but I'm determined to carry out my mother's last wish. You can pick the name of the next child, okay?" Bill tried to make peace with his young wife. In time, Sine grew into an handsome little fellow. Bill was obsessed with teaching him everything so all Leila had to do was enjoy her son. Bill wanted more kids, but Leila was careful not to let that happen. The house was full and at times, Leila thought she would go crazy if there was one more person in the house. In his old age, Chip drew a lot of pleasure from his one and only grandchild. He hoped that Bill and Leila would have more, but so far, Sine was an only child. Of course it was hard to feel like an only child with Corky and Peg still living at home. This house was bustling with youth like never before. Peg was starting to grow up and show interest a special young man named Christopher. Chris had blond hair like Nora...maybe Peg would have blond babies... "Bill, we gotta talk." Leila finally couldn't take any more. "We need a place of our own. Your father is dating again, and he may decide to remarry. Peg is dating, Cork is growing up, and I feel like little Sine is getting lost in the shuffle."
"You know, Peg, you're right. You start packing our things and I'll find us a place." In just a few days time, Leila had their two rooms cleaned out and ready to move. She was so excited she could hardly believe they were going to have their own home. Bill and Leila found a wonderful home. It took most of their money, so the only furnishings they had at first were the ones they brought with them from Bill's family home. But they were happy and they both knew that, in time, they'd have the things they wanted. Ann and little Sine had more opportunity to bond now that Bill and Leila lived closer to her. She came over and babysat the first evening while they had a small house-warming party. And finally, that big day came when little Sine headed off to school for the first time.
"Hi, Ms. Judy! Today is my first day!" Sine bubbled when he boarded the bus.
"Great, kid. Sit down." She snarled.
Sine puckered his lips and plopped down in the first available seat. And one day, Bill was helping Sine with his homework when it dawned on him. He had accomplished his father's dream...he had raised the next generation of Boards. Sine was a bright kids with the whole world before him.
Bill just hoped *he* might get to see the next generation...
