Jabon: Episode 8, "An Uppance has come" or "1 comeuppance, 2 comeuppance, 3 comeuppance, floor"

-----We begin this week's episode at the birthday party for Eddie and Freddy (jr.) Plantaganet-----
"Oh come on Eddie, silly, make a wish." Maggie laughed.

"Mom, I'm thinking. This is important, I don't want to waste a good wish."

"So what did you wish for?" Dorian asked Freddy while they waited for Eddie to finish deciding.

"I wished that you would do us a favor."

"Me? What kind of favor?"

"First I should clear up something, the us. It doesn't include mom."

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, that I need you to help us get mom and aunt Catie to start talking again. We have a plan." Freddy added the last comment in a hurry, after the first had sent a panicked expression onto Dorian's face.

"I can't, no, don't tell me the plan. The reason is", Dorian leaned in closer, so no one else would hear, "I'm going to ask your mom to marry me and I can't have her mad at me for any reason, I'd like her to say yes."

"Okay, I'm good. Now you all have to sing." Eddie called.
-----Several minutes later -----

"Oh!" Maggie gave a quiet noise of surprise, for her stomach suddenly shot out in front of her. What she had feared was true, she was again with child. She dearly loved the idea of having another baby, but she feared what Dorian would think of it.

"Maggie, is that what I think it is?"

Maggie whipped around to see Olive standing beside her.

"You mean this baby bump? Yeah, I think so." answered Maggie, hesitantly.

"I thought you'd be thrilled!"

"Oh I am, don't get me wrong."

"Well then, what is wrong? Don't tell me your worried about Dorian." laughed Olive.

"Why shouldn't I be?"

"With the way he looks at you and the way he dotes on that daughter of his, you have nothing to worry about."

Maggie gave her cousin a smile that said, "Wow, I'm dumb." "Thanks."
Maggie walked across the room to where Dorian was standing. It wasn't really the time or the place to tell him the news, but she was too afraid of chickening out, so she'd have to tell him.

"Dorian, can I see you a minute?"

"Of course, what's up?"

"Baby." Maggie squeaked.

"What?"

"We're having a baby."

And with that, Dorian fainted.
-----The next evening, at Bert's Botanical Dining -----

"I'm glad you decided to forgive me Maggie."

"Well, it was shocking news and I was hungry, so going out with you to dinner worked out fine."

Dorian laughed. "Well I'm glad. Here's to you, a very sweet, lovely, and may I add forgiving, woman."

"You may." Maggie smiled and sipped on her drink.
"You know, you really are lovely tonight."

"You really are corny tonight." Maggie laughed.

"No I mean it, really, really lovely." Dorian blew her a kiss.

"I really mean it too, really, really corny." Maggie laughed. "Dorian, what is with you tonight?"

"Nothing's with me, this is how I always act."

"No you don't. You normally act... well, not so nervous."

"I am not nervous."

"Are too."

"Am not."

"Are too."

"Am not."

Maggie burst out laughing. "You know, I think this is the first fight we've ever had."

It took a moment for Maggie's comment to break through the scowl on Dorian's face and sink in to his brain; but it did, and he soon smiled. "You know, I think you're right. That's one thing I really like about the two of us. We get along so well. You make me happy. No corn inteded."
"That one didn't come out corny, I congratulate you. I like us together too, I've actually been happier than I have in a long while."

"I'm glad you like me, because I bought you a present and I don't feel like returning it." Dorian smiled slyly at Maggie and slid a black box on the table.
"Ooooh, a present?" Maggie looked down at the table and registered just what kind of box it is that Dorian put on the table. "Is this what I think it is?"

"If you think there's an engagement ring in there, then yeah, it's what you think it is." Dorian took Maggie's hands. "There are few women in the world who can make a lonely widower with an unruly teenage daughter smile. There are even fewer women who will let said man call her Mag-pie. You're special, you make me smile, you make me happy, you make me complete. And if you can stand all of that corny-ness, then I give you permission to open the box."
Maggie, hands trembling, let go of Dorian's hands and opened the box. Inside was a beautiful ring. In the center was a diamond, surrounded by little purple and red stones, alternating in a circle around it.

"The diamond, well, that's obvious. But around it, those are Garnets and Amethysts, our birthstones." Dorian paused, trying to get an idea of what was going through Maggies head. "You have to say yes, it'll be a pain to sell." added Dorian, jokingly.

Maggie threw her arms around Dorian's neck and muttered yes over and over.
-----Several weeks later, in the bedroom of Catalina Gardener-----

"Hello, Aria? Is that you? I know it's only 6am, I wanted to see if Freddy got a hold of you."

Catherine walked into her daughter's room. She thought he had heard Catalina's voice and couldn't imagine why her daughter would be up so early on a Saturday, let alone why she would be talking at that hour. Catie walked in and was even more surprised to see Catalina fully dressed and with both of her brother's (in various states of undress) in her room. The kids got on fairly well, but none of them were morning people. She smiled and waved at Robert, who was sitting in a chair, when snippets of Catalina's conversation caught her ear.

"And their mom is coming? Good. No, our's doesn't suspect a thing. She doesn't know that they're coming. No, as far as she knows we haven't even met Freddy and Eddie. I know, she's kind of dumb, I mean, the school's not that big, why wouldn't she think that we woudn't have run into each other."
At that point Robert looked up and spotted his mom, arm still up in a wave, but her face was much less happy than it was a few moments before.

"Mom!" he shouted.

Catalina dropped her phone and Daniel's eye's popped out so far they may have fallen on the floor.

"Cat, go appologize to your friend, but make it quick. Now listen you three. I'm not as stupid as you may think and I believe you owe me an appology." Daniel opened his mouth to speak, but he was quickly cut off. "But first, I owe you guys one."

"Us?" asked Robert. "Why do you owe us one?"

"I owe you one, because this fight between me and my sister isn't any of your fault, but I, well, we both have, been treating you kids like it was. It isn't fair for you three to go through life not knowing your cousins, or your aunt. And it isn't fair for the two of them to not know there aunt. I guess it's not very fair to me either."

"So, you're going to make up with Aunt Maggie?" Catalina asked as she walked up to the three of them.

"Well, no, I can't forgive her for what happened. And no, I'm not going to tell you, so don't even ask. I am going to let you visit your aunt's house whenever you're allowed and the boys are allowed to come over here."

"And the wedding?" Robert asked.
"You may go." All three kids cheered. "But you two have to wear suits and you young lady, have to wear a dress."

"Ah mom." They groaned.

Catie laughed. "Oh, come here." She gave them each, in turn, a big hug and a kiss.
-----Apple-Stone Farms, a few days later-----

The wedding ceremony was a roaring success. The Angus clan (minus Jame's sister Annie) came, as well as a very well received set of triplets, aunt Jane, and Delilah all came out to see the nuptuals.
"Aunt Jane." Maggie called out as she walked up to her aunt as they were all finishing up the last of the wedding cake.

"Yes my dear?"

"I wanted to thank you for everything you did for us. You know you didn't have to plan the wedding, or decorate it all yourself. You didn't need to spend all of that money on Dorian and I."

"Well I know I didn't dear, but I really wanted to. After all, I never got to throw a wedding for my own daughter."

"Aunt Jane, you don't have any kids. And as I recall, you yourself never got married."

"Well that's besides the point. Anyway, your father would want to throw the wedding for you and since he's not here I might as well do it."
"Well, thank you. I do have one question though."

"Yes dear, what is it?"

"Why are you wearing a funeral dress to a wedding?"

"Funeral dress? This isn't a funeral dress."

"It was when you wore it to daddy's funeral."

"Now dear, it wasn't then either. This is my all-purpose fancy occasion dress."
"Aunt Jane, you have lots of money. Why don't you go out and buy yourself a dress to wear at weddings, then you could save that one to wear for funerals."

"Well dear, that's the reason I'm rich, I only have one dress."

Before Maggie could puzzle out what she had meant Aunt Jane had walked out of the room, humming loudly as whe went.
"Hey lady, it's your wedding day, you shouldn't look that confused."

"Dorian, hi! It's not the wedding, it's aunt Jane, she just said... oh never mind."

Dorian laughed appreciatively. "Since I wasn't allowed to see you earlier I didn't get a chance to ask you how the appointment went with the Doctor."

"Oh, it went fine, but there is something I have to tell you."

"What, is something wrong with the baby?"

"No, no! Nothing like that."

"Oh thank goodness. Don't scare me like that."

Maggie laughed. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. It's just that I found out that we're having twins."

"Twins?"

"Yeah, my second set."

"And your sister had triplets."

"Well, we're a fertile people Dorian." laughed Maggie.
She cleared her throat and continued. "Is that okay? That we're having twins?"

"Are you kidding? That's great! I've always wanted a big family. Denise and I were going to have one, but..."

"Hey, no deceased spouse talk today, we promised."

"So we did." Dorian smiled. "Come here." He pulled Maggie into his arms and held her, quickly pushing away all thoughts of his late first wife.
Unfortunately, no matter what they promised each other, the late spouses didn't seem to be kept quiet that night. -----A few days later, the Grey Estate-----

Catie heard the doorbell ring. She figured that one of her children had forgotten something that they needed for school. To her surprise she answered the door to a complete stranger.

"May I help you?"

"Yes, my name is Megan Magellan, I'd like to see Henry if at all possible."

The woman seemed pleasent enough, so without asking any questions Catie asked Megan to follow her, and lead them through the house to where Henry was.
"Henry, darling!" Megan exclaimed. "You haven't been to see me for so long, I was so dreadfully worried." With that, she flung herself at him and planted a huge wet kiss on him. Completely forgetting himself, Henry let her kiss him.

Catie however, was none to pleased.
"Excuse me? Hasn't been to see you lately?" Catie gripped Megan's shoulder and whirled her around, so they'd be face to face.

"Going around with a married man is one thing, but to come to his house while his wife is home and kiss him is something else! How dare you?"
Before Megan could see what was coming Catie reached back and smacked Megan across the face. "Pardon me madam, but I had no idea that Henry was married at all!"

"What?" Henry shouted. "Of course you knew, you knew I was before you even met me."

"Never mind that Henry Gardner, how could you do this to me?" Catie yelled.

"How could you do this to me?" Megan yelled.
"You? Who care's about you right now?" Catie asked.

"I care, he cheated on me." With that comment, Megan got smacked, yet again.
"Catie sweetheart, she's lying, she knew all along."

"Henry, I just caught you cheating on me, why would I believe you when you say she is lying?"

"Because it's the truth!"
"Here's what I think of you and your truth."

"Ow!" cried out Henry. "Who taught you to hit like this?"

"Who taught you to teach like this? I can't believe you. This is all my fault."

"What?" asked Megan and Henry together.

"It's my fault for not believing Maggie. This", Catie gestured to Megan," is of course your fault."

"And you know what else is your fault? It's your fault that I was laughed at all throughout college for thinking you were faithful to me after that little mishap with that classmate of yours. It's your fault for cheating on me with Rose. It's your fault for Maggie finally thinking she had enough proof to come and tell me what she knew. It's your fault for me yelling at her and moving us out. It's your fault that I haven't spoken to her since the night we moved out. It's your fault I missed her boys' childhoods. It's your fault that I missed her second wedding!" "Aunt Jane, would you like to leave us?" Catie said suddenly, turning her head to look at her aunt, who had been painting in the corner for the entrie scene.

"No dear, I'm quite alright. I'm rather enjoying the show." Jane commented innocently and went back to her watercolor.

"You're right," said Henry," it is all my fault. I'm sorry. Please forgive me."
"Forgive you? Forgive you? You've got to be kidding me! I have forgiven you enough for a few lifetimes. Many, many, many lifetimes." "I know, you're right, it's a shameful thing I've done."

"Yes, it is. I want you out."

"What?"

"You heard me, I want you out."

"You want me to move out? You want to end our marriage?"

"Marriage? You call this a marriage? Try travesty of many lies and ambiguity."

"Catie, please, you can't want me to leave." For the first time all day Henry sounded scared and worried."

"Yes, leave, please!"

"We can work this out."
"We have nothing to work out. LEAVE!" Catie screamed the last word at the top of her lungs. "Fine." Henry said quietly. "I'm going to our bedroom to pack a few things. I'll be at Bradley's in case you change their mind and tell the kids I'll call them later to talk to them." Henry quickly turned around, he didn't want Catie to see his tears. Secretly he wasn't all that upset over them breaking up. He had been getting tired of Catie before they moved in together during college. His tears were for leaving his kids. End of 8.

Thanks for reading this episode and (hopefully!) for sticking with my story. I wanted to warn that my spelling may be a bit off for a few weeks. I have to alter some of my prescription medications and that does funny things with my control over my dyslexia. I'm going to do the best editing I can, but there may be some darn funny words popping out in later episodes. They are always a good laugh though! :)

Thanks again!

And special thanks to Peggy (zone) for her lovely clothes and hair.
