I'm really thankful for all your comments. They meant a lot. I want to appologize for the time it took me to put this up. I've been pretty busy, this three weeks have proved that this semester is going to be really hard for me.

I hope you enjoy this chapter. If you don't, please tell me what you don't like, could you? I REALLY do love constructive criticism, and severe criticism too. It makes me grow up and fix stuff.

So... without further ado, we can go back to the story.

So... without further ado, we can go back to the story.
Carrie Galdos picked up the phone practically the first time it rang. She really enjoyed doing such simple things after such a long time in a hospital bed. It was almost as if she were a little baby, discovering the world.

It had been a nightmare. She could still remember every single detail.
It had all begun the day she had returned from college, with her drama degree, ready to find herself a job in the show bussiness, but, what was more importan, to plan her wedding with Carlo Franco, a bussiness man she had met in college. After getting herself a new look in the most important beauty parlor, she had gone to look for the perfect wedding dress. After trying lots of gowns without finding the right one, Carrie had felt discouraged.

"I'll end up marrying Carlo in a bathing suith," she said to herself, grumbling, as she tried on the last one she had picked.

But it was useless. She couldn't find what she wanted. It was so late, it was already dark

She had to go, so she headed towards the manager, to ask her when would they have some new dresses. As it was the only store in Gleacy where wedding gowns were to be found, she had no alternative.
It was there where she saw her for the first time. A strange looking woman, with certain resemblance to her great great grandmother's portrait, who was fixedly staring at her.

She seemed to desire to speak to her, but, at the same time, she looked as if she hated her, just because she existed.
She was so scared of her look, she had ran towards her car and headed home as fast as she could. But it ended up being a little too fast. Meanwhile, Betina spent a terrible night until the police officers told her what had happened to her daughter. She was fine, they said, but terribly disfigured, in Gleacy Main Hospital.

They had to admit it was true.

The wedding date was already planned, and neither Carlo nor Carrie wanted to postpone it, not even for a disfigured face.
So they ended up marrying in one of the gowns she didnt' like, with only her brothers and sisters present, with their wives, husbands and kids.

"Only family," she had said. "No pictures, unless they don't focus my face."
After the wedding, Cathy, ignoring her mathernity leave, offered to help her reconstructing her face with a plastic surgery, as a belated wedding present.

"There won't be any complications, sis," she said. "And we can even fix your nose, as you have always wanted to."

They did it.

And Cathy was right: it was fast, safe, and, most important (at least to Carrie), successful.
She was thankful to be able to pick up the phone, to talk, to joke, to hear her friends...

She certainly wasn't expecting what she heard.

"Hello?"

"Betina?" asked a strange voice she had never heard before.
"No, it's not. This is Carrie."

"Oh, I see," said the person on the other side of the line. "Could I speak to Betina, please?"

"I'm afraid she's out of town, she's visiting her son and her daughter in law. Do you want to leave a message for her?"

"Just tell her she'll pay for what I had to bear."
"Sorry, I didnt' quite catch that. What do you mean?" she asked, amazed.

Did you say something?" she asked after a long time awaiting a reply, with no use.

"HELLO?!"

She heard a clic. She stared at the phone. Who could that be?
"I swear it was pretty strange," she told to Carlo and Betina two days later, when Betina came back home. "It sounded like a shy person, but at the same time, a very determined one. I have no idea who could that be. Certainly not aliens," she tried to rest some importance to the matter.

"I have no idea as well," Betina said, calmly, eating her waffles. "We're pretty pacific, we haven't been in trouble ever since we stablished in this town. It's strange, I really can't understand who could that mysterious speaker be."
"Did it sound old or young?" asked Carlo. "Or alien?" she followed his wife's joke.

"I'd bet late thirties, early forties, the most. The voice sounds strong, and I must say it's seductive."

The phone rang.
"I'll get it," said Carlo.

"But we've both finished, why don't you finish first?" asked Carrie.

"Let me pet you," he said with a smile. "It was sher luck that I didn't end up a widow before time."

His wife smiled too and watched him as he picked up the phone.
"I want to speak to Betina, please," said a voice through the telephone.

"I'm sorry, but who is speaking?" asked Carlo. He already knew all his mother-in-law friends, and he couldn't recognize that voice.

"Nevermind. Put her on the phone, please," ordered the voice.

"I don't think I will, unless you say who you are and what you want," said Carlo firmly.

"Suit yourself," said the voice, and the speaker hung up.

He looked at the two women.

"We'll move back to the old manor tonight. We won't let this person harm us here. Come on, we'll be safer there."
So, they moved back to the old house, where Carrie and her brothers had been borned and had grown up.

She spent nearly all her days reading, while Carlo was painting and working pretty much.

One night, Carlo came back early.
"Carrie! Love! I've got promoted! Now I can pay that honeymoon we never had!" he yelled, happy as he could be. "Come on, pack your bags. We'll leave right now."

"I can't leave my mother alone, you know that!"

"She'll be fine, we'll call every day. And you need to forget a little about those strange phone calls. Come on, let's go!"
It didn't take much to convince her, and they arrived Twikki Island the next day.

They were able to spend time together, to take tours, sunbathe, but, most important, to relax, giving themselves to each other fully, without the pressures of every day living, back at the city.
In one of the tours, Carlo decided to make a wish. He wished his wife could forget about everything, that those phone calls could stop for good. Pretty soon, the time for them to leave arrived.

Carrie almost seemed another woman. Carlo couldn't believe it, but was very happy to see her so transformed.
They arrived home at night. "Something's not good," thought Carlo. The house seemed abandoned and there were weeds all around.

"MOM?!" cried Carrie as she ran towards the house.

"STOP!" ordered her husband. "It's dangerous. Let's wait, I'll call the police."
