Oasis Island 3: Fact or Fiction
Hey! If you haven't read the first two parts to the story, I would highly suggest doing so before looking any further into this one. And if you have read them, it's never a bad idea to look over them again in case you may have missed any clues. This ones a little longer than the others, so I'd go to the bathroom and get a snack first. ;) Happy reading!
Renee had just woken up, hurriedly got dressed and rushed out of her room. It was almost noon. She was so exhausted from staying up all night. She couldn't stop thinking about Deacon as she dreamily wandered down the hallway. Last night had been so perfect. She had hoped Deacon felt the same way about it. Renee had always been so nervous around guys she didn't know very well but with him, in that moment, it all felt so right. She didn't know if he felt it too and she hoped he didn't think she was too forward. Renee didn't want him getting the wrong idea. She had to know.
But on her way to his room, she heard loud sobs erupting from the one next to it. The door was cracked open. Renee could see that it was Tatum. She was bawling. Renee really didn't want to go in; she was just so anxious to see Deacon. But she wasn't the kind of person to ignore someone in need. She hesitated a moment before cautiously entering the room. Tatum was still dressed in her pajamas. Her hair was a mess and drenched near her face from the volume of tears that flowed from her eyes. Her make-up was smeared and dark circles beneath her eyes saddened her complexion. She looked miserable.
"Eh hem," Renee cleared her throat to announce her presence.
Tatum rubbed her eyes and looked up to see who was in the room. "GET OUT!" Tatum jumped up and yelled as Renee approached her. Tears were still dripping down her face. She yelled again when Renee didn't move, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN HERE?!"
Renee was startled but she gently replied, "I heard you from the hall and I just wanted to make sure you were okay-"
"I'M FINE!" Tatum screamed.
"Okay," Renee said calmly, "I was just trying to help. I'm sorry." Tatum's expression of anger suddenly changed to an unexpected look of sadness as she resumed crying and harshly rubbing her eyes. Her emotions were jumping from high to low and she couldn't control them.
She finally spoke as she wiped her eyes with her fist smearing even more make-up, "No. I'm the one who's sorry, Renee. I didn't mean to yell at you. I just feel so awful. And I look so awful; I didn't want anyone to know I was in here like this. I didn't mean for you to hear me. I just did - I just-" Her sobs were so heavy that Renee couldn't understand her. Renee gently put her hand on her shoulder and asked, "What's wrong Tatum?"
"I can't talk about it," she cried harshly into her hands as tears streamed rapidly down her palms.
"It can't be that bad, can it?"
"Yes it is!" Tatum continued to cry, "I just did something so awful yesterday!" Renee thought she understood. She put her arm around Tatum and said, "I know I told you to sleep on it and maybe that was bad advice. Danny was just shocked that you threw the ring. I still think you just need to talk to him and try to work-"
Tatum shook her head as the volume of her sobs increased.
Renee offered, "Well, can I help you?"
"No," Tatum struggled to reply between her heavy breaths.
Renee didn't know Tatum very well and she didn't feel comfortable pushing the issue. She tried to think of who, other than Danny, Tatum might be able to talk to. Only one person came to mind, "Well, do you want me to get Deacon?"
Tatum suddenly began to cry harder. Renee took that as a 'no' and tried desperately to calm her down.
"Shhh. I'm sorry, Tatum," Renee tried to comfort her, "I was just trying to help. I didn't mean to make you more upset." Tatum suddenly hugged Renee. She squeezed her so tight that Renee couldn't breath.
"It's nothing you did. I'm just a horrible person," Tatum said as she cried into Renee's shoulder. Her voice was muffled, "I just can't talk about it right now."
"I'll just leave you alone for a while," Renee struggled to speak due to Tatum's tight grip, "I'll be here to listen if you ever do want to talk about it though."
Tatum silently nodded. Renee pryed Tatum away from her and helped her sit back down in her chair. Renee felt guilty leaving her there but didn't know what else she could do for her.
She left the room and gently closed the door behind her. She turned around to face danny who was exiting another room. She looked at him suspiciously, "What were you doing in Talia's room?" "Just seeing if she was there," Danny said, "We wanted to continue talking about our ideas; we started to come up with some good ones... Well anyway, she's not there." He quickly changed the subject, "What were you doing in Tatum's room?" "She's a wreck," Renee explained, "I was just trying to calm her down. I think it's about the whole ring thing. I don't really want to get in the middle of it but maybe you should talk to her."
"No thanks," Danny quickly replied, "I'm tired of always apologising. And I didn't even do anything. She just always gets jealous when I talk to other girls. She's always accusing them of something stupid that's in her head. That's why most girls hate her." "Oh my gosh," Renee suddenly gasped, "You didn't tell her about-"
"No," Danny quickly cut Renee off knowing exactly what she was about to say. He assured her, "I didn't tell her. Believe me. If she knew, you would know. She would have bit your head off in there just now. She doesn't know."
"Okay," Renee looked a little uncomfortable, "Sorry I brought it up."
"Don't be," Danny suddenly smiled, "I almost thought you forgot about it." "That's silly," Renee smiled back, "How could I?"
"Well, we kind of grew apart over the last years. You stopped writing to me," Danny said, "and I feel like you've been avoiding me this whole time we've been here; like pretending you don't even know me."
"Maybe. I guess I just didn't want to make it uncomfortable," Renee responded, "But it's not like you were going out of your way to talk to me."
"I know. I guess I was doing the same thing," Danny said, "I actually feel a little better now that you brought it up." "Let's still just keep it between you and me though," Renee whispered as she winked at him.
"You mean you've never told anyone?" Danny asked a little surprised.
"Well, just Pryia," Renee replied and asked, "Did you tell anyone?"
"Yea," Danny shrugged, "but just Deacon."
Renee thought felt her heart drop. "What?! Why?!"
"Relax," Danny said a bit shocked, "He doesn't know it was you." Renee let a sigh and nervously laughed, "Oh, good."
"Why did you freak out?" Danny asked, "Is it really that embarassing?"
"No," Renee shook her head, "It's not that at all. I just remember promising we were going to keep it between you and me."
"Okay, we still will then," Danny looked at her unconvinced of her explanation but said, "Come on, let's go get some lunch." As they were walking through the house towards the dining hall, Danny paused to examine a tall statue of a red knight in the corner of a hallway. "I don't remember this being here," he said.
"Me neither," Renee agreed, "How could we have missed it? It's so big and ugly." "BOO!" The statue suddenly jumped into the air and screamed.
Danny gasped and froze in place, unable to move.
Renee toppled backward and turned to run down the hallway but immediately tripped on her feet and fell to the ground.
The statue helped her up. "Relax dudes. It's just me," Deacon lifted the helmet after helping Renee to her feet, "And hey, thanks for calling me big and ugly, Renee."
She let out a sigh of relief as he gave her a friendly smile. Danny, however, was not so amused. He harshly poked at the cold armor that Deacon was wearing hurting his own finger more than Deacon who couldn't even feel it.
"You are such an IDIOT," Danny yelled at him, "You almost gave us heart attacks. Why would you do that?!"
"I found this in some closet," Deacon explained, "I thought I'd have some fun with it. Come on Dan, it rocks. You wouldn't have passed it up either, man."
Danny continued to scold him but Deacon wasn't listening. He turned his attention to Renee who he noticed hadn't stopped smiling at him since he lifted his helmet. She didn't have to speak; he knew what she was thinking. "Good morning, my love," Deacon grabbed her hand and kissed it. His metal gloves were cold against Renee's skin but she only noticed the soft, warm pressure of his lips upon her hand.
Danny stopped talking, shocked. He stared at them, his mouth hanging open. He didn't say a word but he now understood why Renee wanted him to keep their secret a secret. "When did you get up?" Deacon asked, "I popped in earlier but you were sleeping, beauty. I didn't want to wake you up."
"I just got up a little while ago," Renee said still unable to contain her smile, "I went looking for you first actually, but Tatum was crying in her room and I went in to talk to her-" "You did?" Deacon inserted quickly, "Did she tell you what was wrong?"
"Well, no, not really," Renee replied a little surprised by his interest, "She said she didn't want to talk about it."
"Oh, okay." Deacon said. His gaze was drifting off as he muttered, "Cool."
"Is something wrong?" Renee asked. "No," Deacon suddenly snapped out of it and laughed, "This armor's just really heavy and I need to get it off."
"Aren't you coming to eat lunch with us?" Renee asked.
"You two go on," Deacon responded while pushing them down the hallway, "I have to get out of this thing. I'll meet you in a bit."
"Well, okay," Renee said as she and Danny continued to the kitchen. When Danny and Renee entered the kitchen, they found Talia eating her breakfast and Fred in his normal spot near a fireplace.
"Good morning," Renee said as she sat down at the table, still smiling.
"So," Danny finally spoke to Renee, "You and Deacon, huh?"
"What?" Talia said surprised.
"Yea," Renee blushed, "I guess." Fred's heart skipped a beat. He didn't just hear that... did he? "What do you mean, you 'guess'?" Danny asked. He immitated Deacon by kissing an invisible hand and mocked him by saying in a deep tone, "Good morning, my love."
"What?" Talia said again, still shocked, "And when did this happen?"
"We were up late last night," Renee replied, "That's why I slept in so late this morning. We just really connected." "Ha!" Talia suddenly burst out as she scooped another bite of food into her mouth and mumbled, "Yerr nod da awnly wud hiz conneddin wid." Renee didn't understand her at all. She asked, "What?"
"Nothing," Talia said as she swallowed. She was really glad that Renee hadn't understood her. It really wasn't any of her business and she didn't want to get in the middle of it.
"So, what did you guys do all night?" Danny asked. Renee excitedly explained, "Well he came and got me after I changed into my pajamas. He started dragging me down the hallways in the dark. I felt a bit stupid being in my pajamas and all but he didn't seem to care."
Fred was listening and rapidly growing irritated.
Renee continued, "Then I knew where we were going; we had been there already in the morning. It was that ballroom I was talking about all day yesterday, remember? He cleaned it all up. It was so romantic and we danced all night-" "What?" Fred suddenly shouted as he dropped the firepoker which crashed loudly against the stone floor.
Nobody expected it and didn't understand his sudden outburst. They just stared at him silently. He turned to faced them with fury in his eyes. None of them had ever seen him look upset at all let alone this angry.
Renee suddenly felt awful. She had honestly forgotten about Fred and her agreement to meet for breakfast until just then. A tidal wave of guilt crashed violently through her body.
Renee approached him cautiously. "Fred, I'm sorry," She apologised, "I didn't mean to miss breakfast. I know we promised to eat together and I slept in. I really am sorry."
"That's not it," Fred said. He wanted to yell at her so bad. He wanted to tell her how stupid she was for falling for a guy like Deaon. He regretted not telling her about the conversation he overheard on the very first day. He wanted to tell her Deacon was a fake and liar. He wanted to tell her everything. But he couldn't.
Fred stared into her eyes. She looked a little frightened and unsure. He had made her feel guilty; and sad. That was the last thing he wanted her to feel. She sounded so excited when she was talking about Deacon and their night together; she was happy. He couldn't bare the responsibility of ruining that for her. He forced himself to smile and said, "Just don't blame it on me."
He bit his tongue and walked away. Renee was confused as she watched him walk away without another word. She had no idea what he meant. She turned to Talia and Danny who were pretending not to listen until Fred walked out of the room.
"Good one, Renee," Danny rolled his eyes.
"I don't understand," Renee shrugged, "I don't know what just happened."
"I do," Talia said. Renee pushed Danny out of his seat and sat down still looking bewildered and asked Talia, "What?"
"You broke his heart," she casually stated between bites.
"It's been obvious to all of us," Danny stated, "He really likes you. We actually thought you were into him too and then you suddenly end up with Deacon? Honestly, I didn't see that one coming. He must've really pulled out some smooth moves for you." Renee didn't say anything. She just stared at the wall looking incredibly guilty and confused. She did like Fred; she was strangly attracted to him, but she didn't think they were headed in that direction. He didn't say or do anything that hinted toward how he felt, if he even really did feel that way. Deacon, however, did. And it was more than Renee could have ever expected from anyone. She fell for him hard and it was near impossible to sway her feelings right now.
"Just be careful with Deacon, okay Renee?" Danny suddenly said, "He's been known to break a few hearts himself." "Why are you trying to get me away from him?" Renee asked Danny, "I thought he was your best friend."
"He is," Danny said, "So you should really listen to me when I say 'be careful'. I just don't want you to get hurt."
Talia wanted to agree but she remained silent, still feeling like it was none of her business.
Renee didn't see any negative qualities in Deacon at all. Tatum hadn't come out of her room since Renee had talked to her that morning. But the rest of them spent the entire day researching books for any hints on where they might be and how to get out. Most of the books they came across were about places none of them had ever heard of. The numerous maps were of many different lands, but they didn't recognize any of the locations. They were all very old but extremely detailed. There were many of the valley, but none of the mysterious island that held them captive.
Deacon wasn't really helping. He had something else on his mind. "I couldn't sleep last night," he whispered to Renee, "I mean, I know it's only been a few days, but I just have not been able to stop thinking about you."
Renee smiled, blushing. She felt the same way but she also felt extremely uncomfortable talking about it here in the quiet room surrounded by everyone else. "Let's talk about this later," she said. "Come on Renee, we've been reading all day and we're still getting nowhere," he said quietly to her so the others couldn't hear him, "Let's get out of here and find some place, you know, private."
"Shhh, Deacon," Renee hushed him and continued flipping through her book, "Not now. We have to help."
"Aw come on, babe," he leaned in close to her and blew gently on her neck.
Renee closed her eyes. His breath was warm but it sent shivers through her entire body. She got goosebumps on her arm as Deacon softly stroked it with his finger tips. He was so tempting; so hard to resist.
She pushed him away, "Not now, Deac. Not while other people are around." "What the?" He said shocked that she rejected him, "They don't care. Except maybe Frank over there."
"Well I do care. And it's Fred," Renee corrected him. Deacon knew very well what his name was.
"I dont get it," Deacon asked, "Why do you care about that loser anyway?"
"He's not a loser," she replied, "And I just don't want to make anyone uncomfortable." She added, "Plus, we need to find a way out of here and you're not being much of a help."
"Sorry, love," Deacon softened his expression and smiled at her, "but I just can't get enough of you." Fred had been avoiding everyone all day. He couldn't look at Renee and he certainly did not want to look at Deacon; especially when they were together. He remained on the other side of the large room, far enough away from the others that he couldn't hear what they were saying. He kept his back toward them and his nose constantly in a book.
He had so far been unsuccessful, like the others, in finding any useful information. These books contained history and geography and Fred was growing very anxious and bored. He had so far enjoyed the adventure and wasn't really in a hurry leave. He thought he was in good company, particularly Renee, but it had suddenly changed. Now, more than ever, he wished he had a home to get back to like the rest. He continued to examine the book shelf. On the bottom of one, tucked behind a few big and bulky books, was a small and tattered one that was bound in old leather. There was no title on the outside. He opened the book and on the first page, it said: The Princess and the Pirate. Fred didn't understand how a book like this got mixed in with all the others. It looked like a fantasy novel; like the ones he frequently read to escape the troubles of the real world. He didn't really mean to, but once he started reading the first page, he couldn't stop. He read the book the rest of the day. He didn't even notice that it had gotten dark out. As soon as he finished the last page, he jumped up and immediately ran to the others on the opposite side of the room. They were still reading, though they were yawning as they did so. Talia had planned on writing everything down that might help them but at the end of the day, her notebook still remained empty. Deacon had fallen asleep on Renee's shoulder, drooling and quietly snoring. It would have normally made Fred feel uncomfortable, but he was too filled with excitement to react.
"You guys," Fred addressed them enthusiastically, "I just read a great book."
"Mom! I don't want to go to school today, my throat hurts," Deacon mumbled as he opened his eyes. Everyone stared at him. Renee giggled as Deacon wiped some spit from his lip and shrugged. He smiled as they laughed at him.
"Will the book help us?" Danny asked Fred remembering what he said.
"Just listen," Fred said, "I'll try to make a long story short."
He began to recite the contents of the book from his memory... "Back when lands were ruled by royalty, there was a princess of Oasis Valley named Maraya." "Her father, King Ramon, ruled the land with her at his side. Her mother had died when she gave birth to Maraya. She was the only heir to the throne. The king wanted his daughter to marry one of his loyal red knights, Sir Peter. Maraya protested but the king was a persisant man. He arranged for them to marry that coming spring. Maraya was in great dispair; she did not love Peter." "She was in love with a man named Tobias. He was a well-known thief; a pirate and captain of his ship. The king was clueless to their secret affair." "The princess didn't want anyone finding out because she knew that the king would forbid them from seeing eachother. He did not like people who were anything less than high-clas and he loathed thieves. So she would disguise herself in peasant clothes and sneak out of the castle to see him." "Every day, they secretly met in a secluded and abandoned rose garden just outside of the castle grounds. They felt like they could never be seperated, but the realty of the princess's wedding day soon approaching became suddenly apparent. Tobias had to do something." "Less than a week before the ceremony was to take place, Tobias proposed to the princess. She did not hesitate for a moment to accept his offer." "They were married in secret." "When the king found out, he was beyond furious." "He ordered his red knights to take Tobias to the dungeons... and he was sentenced to death." "Days went by. The princess was miserable. She refused to leave the secret rose garden where her and Tobias used to meet. She would try to imagine he was there with his arms wrapped tightly around her." "One day, she really felt someone there but his touch was cold. When she turned to face the human that embraced her, she saw it was one of the red knights. She assumed it was Sir Peter." "She screamed at him and demanded that he leave her garden at once." "Then she saw his eyes and she knew she was mistaken." "It was Tobias. She couldn't believe it. He had attacked the guards, escaped the dungeon and disguised himself as one of the red knights to find her. He knew exactly where she would be." "The married couple happily ran away to his ship and immediatley set off into the vast ocean with no particular destination. Maraya was scared for a moment; she had never been anywhere but her castle and the valley. When Tobias scooped her up and held her tight, she knew everything was going to be okay. She had escaped. She felt free." "She soon became one of the crew. They explored the seas for many years finding new land and valuable treasures." "Then they found out she was pregnant. Although their hearts remained at sea, they knew it would be best to settle somewhere safe." "They decided to reside on a secret island that the captain had discovered and claimed. He worked hard every day to build her a house, hidden in the middle of the island-" "Yea, and then a leprachaun flew in on a pegasus and spread pixie dust all throughout the land," Deacon sarcastically interrupted, "Come on Fred, why are you torturing us with this story?"
"Don't you see?" Danny said excitedly, "This is the house he built! The one we're in! Hidden in the middle of the island!"
Renee was lost in the story. She asked anxiously, "Well, what happened next?"
Fred continued... "Well, the house wasn't even finished before she gave birth to twin boys, Vincent and Theodore." "No one knew of the island or their home except the captain's crew. It was almost impossible to find even for them. They needed a special map. There was only one and Tobias was the sole keeper of it. He soon turned over his title of captain and handed down his ship to his first mate. The crew stayed with them often, always bringing him back a portion of their loot. They had many parties celebrating their victories. Their years of piracy allowed them to live a luxorious life." "They even hired a caretaker for their children. She was a stow away the pirates discovered on their ship during one of their expiditions. She had claimed to be a servent who had been working for no pay, attempting to escape the family that abused her and held her like a prisoner. They felt bad for her and, although at first reluctantly, Tobias agreed to hire her as a helper." "As the years passed, Maraya and her family were happier than ever. They were safe in their own little world. Maraya thought that her kingdom had given up on looking for her and her past would never find her again. Little did she know that she was far from forgotten." "Their maid was a spy for the king.
It had taken her years to track them down and took her even more years to find her way out and back to the valley.
The king was furious to know they were still alive. Maraya was still the only heir to the throne, and being married to her, Tobias was also. He did not want to hand over his kingdom to a bunch of low-life thieves. Maraya and Tobias didn't even want the throne; they were happy with the life they had. But the king didn't know and didn't care." "He ordered the red knights to attack them. 'Kill everyone,' he said, 'even the princess'. The knights went out looking for the house. They couldn't find it. It was luck that caused them to run into the family on a shore of the island. They were accompanied by the crew who was bidding them farewell about to set off on another adventure. The arrival of the red knights was unexpected. All of the pirates did their best to defend the family but it was a rough and bloody battle." Fred paused.
"Then what?" Renee asked.
He answered, "That's it."
"That's it?"
"That's all it says in the book," he replied, "The battle was complete chaos. It was a mess. Everyone was killed."
Renee looked sad. Nobody said anything. "So our way out of here is finding this map," Danny sighed heavily, "Great. What if it's not even here?"
"I don't know you guys," Talia said, "Sounds a bit too fairy tale-ish to me."
"Fairy tales end happily," Danny said, "This one certainly didn't."
"Well it's not the end of the story," Renee exclaimed, "Who took over the throne?"
"Nobody," Fred answered, "There was no heir left. When the king died, his kingdom did too. Oasis Valley was abandoned. It was discovered in ruin and rebuilt less than a century ago. I'm sure you knew that."
Renee shrugged, feeling a bit stupid, "Well that makes sense."
"Well at least this story explains a few things," Fred tried to point out the positives, "Like why they found evidence of a war on this island. And why this house is so hard to find and has been undiscovered and abandoned since the battle." "And why it's so hard to get out of here," Danny sighed.
Renee glared at Deacon and added, "Yea and where that stupid red armor came from that Deacon was wearing this morning." Renee felt anxious. She flipped carelessly through the random book she was holding as if it could magically change the ending to the story Fred had told them. She frowned and asked Fred, "But who wrote the story in the book you have? And what about the twins? The poor little boys were killed too?"
Fred looked away and shrugged. "Sounds like a load of bull to me," Deacon said rudely, "Some little kids probably made it up."
"I can tell it's written by an adult," Fred said certain.
"Yea and how don't you see the coincidences, Deac?" Renee said looking at him, "It has to be true."
"You have got to be kidding me," Deacon shook his head and stood up, "Forget this. You guys are nuts. I'm going to bed." He stormed off. Renee hesitated, then silently followed him.
"That's not a bad idea," Danny yawned, "It's late. And I'm really going to need to sleep on this one."
The other two agreed and they all went up to bed. Fred knew it had to be true. The story was fresh in his mind. His imagination was running wild. He had been so lost in the book and didn't want to come back to reality. An incident on the way to his room, however, quickly caused him to return. He accidentally saw into Renee's room where her and Deacon were locked in a close embrace. Their faces appeared to be glued together. Fred had had hope that their relationship was just all talk, but seeing them there... together... like that... caused the harsh reality to hit him full-force. Fred felt his stomach suddenly cave in; he thought for a moment he was going to vomit. He wanted to run away or even just close his eyes but he couldn't move.
Renee didn't notice him. But as Deacon exited the room and closed the door behind him, he awkwardly glared at Fred. "What are YOU doing?" Deacon asked him in a cocky tone.
"I should be asking you the same thing," Fred responded in a surprising equally cocky tone, "Liar."
Deacon was caught off guard, "What do you mean?" "You know perfectly well what I mean," Fred said forcefully.
Deacon really didn't. He said, "You're just jealous, aren't you? That I got the girl before you."
"Yea, you did. But based on a lie," Fred was angry, "Don't pretend you don't know what I'm talking about." "Don't try to make excuses for being the loser," Deacon responded still not knowing was Fred was getting at, "It's not like you even had a chance."
"At least I'm not a liar," Fred started to shout, "I don't pretend I did things that I didn't."
Deacon just stared at him with a bewildered expression.
Fred was frustrated at his incompetance. He yelled, "THE BALLROOM, YOU GIT! I'M TALKING ABOUT THE BALLROOM! I DID THAT! I DID! AND YOU TOOK ALL THE CREDIT FOR IT!"
Deacon was speechless. "Look buddy," Deacon found his voice and tried to sound tough, "I didn't intentionally do that. I didn't know you did it. I was just going to take her down there cause you said she couldn't stop talking about it. I honestly didn't even notice the difference."
"That's just it! I told you about it! You didn't even remember! You don't know her at all, do you?," Fred was still yelling, "And why didn't you say anything? Why didn't you admit right then and there that you didn't do it?"
Deacon paused, calming down. "I just didn't want to dissapoint her," he said, suddenly looking vulnerable. Fred sighed. At least they had one thing in common. Deacon broke the awkward silence, "Look, Fred, I didn't mean to do that. I honestly didn't know. Just... please..."
"I'm not going to say anything," Fred sighed, "But just because I know it would make her upset and then I would be the one responsible for it. But if you hurt her, I better not be the one to blame because I didn't step up with the truth either. Got it?"
Deacon didn't know what to say. And nothing he could say would make the situation any better.
Fred rolled his eyes and walked away without another word. Deacon couldn't sleep that night. Everything had seemed so perfect the entire day but his confrontation with Fred brought everything he was ignoring to the front of his thoughts. What Renee didn't know wouldn't hurt her, right? It sounded so awful in his head. He really DID like this girl but he was inexperienced and clumsy with this new feeling. He didn't want to mess it up but he feared it might have already been too late. Thanks for reading!

Thanks again for reading. I'm sorry it took me so long to get this up. My summer suddenly became incredibly busy and I only got to work on this a bit while the babes were napping. I rushed this part a little (particularly the writing) so I'm really hoping it didn't turn out too bad. And if it did, my apologies. Anyway... As always, any feedback is appreciated but please, be kind!

Wow, wonderful job on this! Deacon is really laying it on thick with Renee... I still think he's a jerk. Guys like that never seem to know how to handle it when they get actual feelings for a girl. And I loved "The Princess and The Pirate" story in there too... really great! And the way you did those pics was really cool. Can't wait for what's to come!

Very nice. I loved the "Princess and the Pirate" part, and I am so mad at Deacon! What a jerk! lol. Anyways, this was wonderful and I really look forward to the next part!

Eeek I got so excited when I saw this story was up! This has to be the best series I've read so far. I still think Renee and Fred should be together. Fred deserves her. Hmmm *Goes back to reread other ones for clues*

This diserves more than a 5.0 but sadly that is all that I can give it, I love reading this story and I can't wait for the next part to come out!

I was so happy that this part was out that I almost commented on it before reading it. Haha. It was amazing. I loved the flashback while Fred was explaining to story. And even though Deacon is really really starting to like Renee, I hope they don't end up together. Especially since he was a little in edge when he found out that she seen Tatum crying. It was very suspicious to me. I may be bluffing, but Fred looks like those twins.
Could he be one of the sons and not know it? o0o that would put a huge twist in the story. Well, now I'm rambling and taking page space. Haha. So I rated it a 5.0 just like all the rest, and I cannot wait for your next part!!

Not like it?!? How could you think we wouldn't like it?!? That was the best one yet! I loved the pirate and the princess story and I was thinking the same thing as Sk8Iowa, could Fred be one of the twins, or a decendent or something becaues their dad looked like him alot too. Maybe he was meet to be here to know about his past?!?! Oh man, now I'm just getting carried away. Also I'm still curious about Tatum and her issue or whatever. Anyway, another great one, can't wait till the next part.

Another great part. Loved it from beginning to end. I still really like Deacon for some reason, his character is just so easy to relate to. Though I hate how he took credit for the ballroom. I look forward to the next part.

Eek I just reread the first story and I too think that Fred is one of the twins from the story. He's an orphan, because his parents were killed in the fight but he somehow survived. He doesn't remember much of his childhood so he wouldn't remember any of that happening. He also looks a lot like the pirate in the story, and the mom had red hair (as did the twins). Ahh now I can't wait for the next part.

That was a good installment. I think that the book is the history for the house. I thought the ending was a bit abrupt. I kind of did a second take. The book effect was cool but I almost like seeing the full pictures. Your picture quality is so nice and I felt the book and room background to be distracting. I look forward to the next chapter.

Great job, love the way you did the princess and the pirate story. what happened with Deacon and Tatum, just when I thought he was on the verge of changing his ways he shows signs that he can't. Fred is a really nice guy but I don't see him with Renee. Great job can't wait to see what happens next.
