Oasis Island 4: Truth be Told
You really won't believe what happens in this one! Sorry it took me so long to get it up but I really do hope the wait was worth it. If you haven't read the first 3 parts, just click on my name and they are listed under my stories. If you've already read them, it might not hurt to refresh your memory so everything makes sense! It's a tad long (Sorry! But you can always take a break and read the rest later!) and be prepared for some serious drama (Oh boy!). Well, happy reading and please let me know if you enjoyed it!

It's a tad long (Sorry! But you can always take a break and read the rest later!) and be prepared for some serious drama (Oh boy!). Well, happy reading and please let me know if you enjoyed it! The dining hall was filled with an awkward silence the following morning where everyone, excluding Tatum who was still shut up in her room, decided to meet after breakfast. That meal had been extremely uncomfortable as Fred had, although unintentionally, dampered the mood. Everyone had been sleepily searching for something decent to eat but the cupboards were bare as most of the food Deacon had scavanged for them was not in the least bit edible ("It's that fire-head's fault," Deacon referred to Fred as he complained to Renee, "He didn't help me at all!") They all kept shooting glances at Fred in hopes that he might offer to magically whip them up one of his fantastic meals as he had done before but he, Fred, simply ignored them. He subconciously made incredibly angry faces, scowling at whoever was currently looking at him. Nobody attempted to speak to him in fear that he might snap. Fred was in a fowl state that morning because of his confrontation with Deacon the night before. Seeing Deacon and Renee snogging in the kitchen as he made his way to breakfast certainly didn't help his mood in any way. Fred immediately turned and left before either of them saw him; he would rather starve to death.
As he sat at the dining table that morning, his stomach continuing to deeply rumble as a constant reminder of its emptiness, he stared at Renee who was sitting directly across from him. She didn't seem to notice as she was dreamily staring at Deacon. Fred still didn't understand -- How could Deacon just sit there (with his stupid hair and his cocky grin) and pretend it all never happened?
Talia suddenly interrupted his thoughts as she dared to strike up a conversation with Fred about the story he had read to them the previous night. "That freak keeps staring you down," Deacon whispered to Renee after noticing Fred, "See. Like I told you this morning, you should stay far away from him. He's a creep."
"Shhh," Renee spat as she desperately looked at Fred and was relieved to notice he hadn't heard Deacon's comment. "Quiet, Deac! What are you going on about? I still don't get where this is coming from."
"Look, he's-" Deacon started to whisper but Renee quickly hushed him. He rolled his eyes and then mouthed so Renee had to read his lips, "He's a psycho!" Deacon held up his fist as if clutching an invisible dagger and aggressively stabbed the air infront of Renee's chest. Renee laughed.
"Come off it!" she said as she slapped him playfully on the arm and then retracted it quickly as she yelped and grabbed her fist in pain, "OW!" "Sorry, babe," Deacon lightly laughed as he grabbed her hand and gently massaged it, "But these guns can't be beat."
"I don't know, Deac," Renee smiled, "Your invisible dagger may have a pretty good chance."
Deacon's smile widened as he gazed at her, his hand still slowing rubbing hers. It was perfect to him; her hand just felt so right enveloped carefully in his own. His palm tingled as it caressed hers. This was so different than anything he had ever felt before. He never could have imagined he would care for someone in this way. If she found out about his past and the secrets that he held from her, she wouldn't want anything to do with him. He just couldn't tell her the truth about any of it. It didn't matter anyway; it was in the past, right? But these thoughts were far from his mind at this moment as he stared deeply into her dark brown eyes. He thought nothing could bring him down, that was until she subconciously released Deacon's hand and turned her attention to the man across the table. 'What does Deacon mean by creepy?' Renee thought to herself as she stared at Fred who was in converstation with Talia and now Danny. She questioned her thoughts, 'Is Deacon just jealous? No. But why does he hate Fred? Does he know that Fred might like me? Maybe. But does Fred even like me? No, he doesn't. The others must have seen it wrong. I mean, he never said anything about it to anyone. He really doesn't care... does he? No.' She realized her thoughts were straying. 'But it doesn't matter. I'm with Deacon. He's done so much for me,' she turned her attention back to Deacon who was now conversing directly to Danny, 'I would never have imagined I would find such a caring man. He is just so-"
Her thoughts were interrupted. "Renee?!" Danny repeated himself for the third time.
"Oh.. uh.." she stuttered, "What did you just say?"
"Honestly, Renee, quit staring at him and pay attention," Danny said. Renee shot a quick glance back at Fred who, she noticed, was in turn looking at her, his expression vacant.
"He was just asking what you thought about the story," Talia said.
"What story?" Renee asked and immediately felt stupid, "Oh, right. Yea. Well, I, uh, think it's great."
"About if it's about this house or not, Renee!" Danny said forecfully.
"Oh, yea, right then," she felt even more stupid but honestly answered, "Yea, I think it is." "So do I," Danny nodded satisfied with her answer, "And so does Fred."
Deacon belted, "Yea? Well, I still think it's a bunch of horse sh-"
"Deac," Renee cut him off, "Give it a chance."
"Well it's not like it really matters anyway," Deacon said, "We haven't found this infamous map of yours anywhere so what good does this fairy tale even do us? There's no proof."
"We just haven't looked in the right place yet," Danny said positively.
"Obviously," Deacon rolled his eyes, "I think the fact that we're going to starve to death is a bit more important right now than your little imaginary piece of paper." "Yea, we know," Talia agreed, "Danny and I found some fishing poles last night so-"
"Last night?" Deacon asked trying to think of when they would have had time to do that but Talia continued before he could question it any further.
"Yea," she said, "So we thought we could all spend the morning at the lake and then start searching for this map. Deacon, I'm not really sure I believe this story is true either but it's worth a shot. What else have we got?" "You guys have got to be kidding," Deacon looked around at them as if expecting them to suddenly laugh like they were all playing one big joke on him; but their expressions remained serious. "We'll be here forever if we take that approach. This house is huge; we'll never find this map even if it does exist!"
Danny asked, annoyed, "Then what do you suggest?"
"Let's just pack our bags and head out," Deacon said, "We're bound to find the road. It brought us here so it can't be that hard."
"We're lucky we even made it here," Danny said, "Not only is it almost impossible to tell where you're going in the forest, there's incredibly wild animals out there-" Talia nodded in agreement thinking of their encounter with the wolf- "We can't just go galavanting around without knowing where we're going. We'll just be making ourselves bait."
"Speaking of those animals," Renee chimed in, "Fred and I found a book the first night we were here about some of them on the island. We should also probably read that just in case-" "No one cares what you and FRED read," Deacon furiously interrupted, "You two and your STUPID stories. You are ALL completely NUTS!" He jumped up, his chair flying out behind him toppling on its side, and stormed out of the room.
Renee looked horrified. Danny tried to make the situation seem better, "Renee, he didn't mean that. He's just frustrated; we all are really." It didn't work.
Fred almost seemed like he was trying to hold back a smile.
"Er. Well," Danny broke the awkward silence as he stood up, "We better get down to the lake and get some food before it starts raining again." "I'll join you guys in a bit," Renee looked weary as she said to Danny, "I'm going to go check on Deac. I don't know what's gotten into him."
"I don't think it's anything you did," Danny scratched his head uncomfortably, "I know I've said it before but I just don't want to have to say 'I told you so'. So just be careful, alright?"
Renee nodded and quietly walked away. "Danny, she can take care of herself," Talia said to Danny as he approached her after talking to Renee, "You don't always have try to tell her what to do."
"I know," Danny shrugged, "I just also know how Deacon can be. I really don't want her to get hurt."
"It's too late for that," Talia muttered.
"What?" Danny asked.
"It's just that... well, nevermind," Talia hesitated to say anything but Danny prodded her. She looked like she was choosing her words very carefully before she spoke, "I just know that Deacon didn't clean that ballroom."
"What? How?"
"Well because he was outside all morning getting all that junk he thought we could eat," Talia explained, "And in the afternoon... well..."
"What?"
"Well, uh," Talia stuttered before saying, "Well I just know he was in his room all afternoon. Remember I walked in on him?" She looked extremely uncomfortable for a moment. "Well anyway, I think Fred cleaned it," Talia whispered, "and that's why Fred's so mad today."
"Ohhh," Danny said putting it all together. Meanwhile, Renee made her way up to Deacon's room to see what his fit was all about. He had just put on his coat when Renee walked in. He didn't look angry anymore; just a bit sad really.
"Whatcha doin'?" Renee asked trying to sound casual.
"Oh," Decon turned around just realizing she was there, "Just changing to get ready to go fishing." "Deac, are you okay?" she asked him.
"Yea, I'm alright," he answered.
"Then what was that all about?" Renee questioned him referring to his abrupt exit from the dining hall.
"It's just that... Well, I mean," he stuttered, "I've just been a little hard on Fred... And it's not even really his fault... He's alright and all... Well, I still don't like him but... It's just that, well, I can't help but wonder, if I wasn't... or didn't..." he paused, "You just seem to get on so well with him. You two have so much in common, I thought maybe-"
Renee finally understood where he was going. She had never seen him look this insecure. He was always so confident and outgoing; this was certainly showing a previously undiscovered side of Deacon. "Deacon, I like you," Renee smiled, "A lot. Quit worrying about other people. You've done so much for me in the small amount of time that I've known you. You've always been so nice to me and helped me out. And that ballroom, wow-"
"That's just it," Deacon said, "I mean what if I hadn't done that? Would this still all be the same? I just feel like you wouldn't like me if I didn't. I'm not all that great, ya know. There's just some things I should tell-" "Stop it," she unintentionally laughed and Deacon looked at her surprised. "I'm sorry, it's just that this isn't the Deacon I know," Renee said smiling at him as she squeezed his muscles, "Where's my tough man with the unbeatable guns?"
"Renee, seriously" Deacon tried to make her listen, "I just should tell you some things that I-"
She cut him off and playfully pushed him onto his bed jumping on top of him. Renee allowed all of her weight to press on top of him as he tried to push her up. "Come on big guns, if you can't get me off, we're going to have to change your nickname," she laughed saying, "And don't even think about reaching for that invisible dagger of yours; I already stole it when you weren't looking."
Deacon was struggling to push her off because he was laughing so hard. "Alright!" he belted, "TRUCE!" "Good," Renee backed off and smiled, "Now quit getting these silly thoughts in your head, alright?"
"Yea, okay. It's just that I-"
"Stop! Or I'll do it again!"
"No please," Deacon pleaded, "I can't breathe from laughing and I'm already all hot and sweaty." "Well I can fix that," Renee said as she unzipped his coat and kissed him. Deacon did not protest. Meanwhile, Talia and Danny were fishing at the lake. It was a clear day, but the temperature was cold and the gusting wind made it worse. Danny was quite skilled at fishing as he learned growing up during his summers at camp. Talia, however, was experiencing difficulties as this was her first attempt at fishing. Danny had been instructing her, and after an hour she showed a little improvement.
Danny wasn't talking much. He was still a little shy around Talia and she had never mentioned anything about the daisies he had given her. Though he did notice that day she had one daisy placed daintily in her hair. Danny had another thing on his mind as well though; he couldn't stop thinking about Deacon's ploys to get Renee. How could he have taken the credit for that ballroom? Danny was sure that was the main reason Renee liked Deacon. And why hadn't Fred stepped up? He didn't know all the answers; but he had a feeling he was right in thinking that Renee would be the one to get hurt in the end. When Renee finally joined them, Danny had already caught many fish. Renee beamed at him, "You're awesome, Danny! Looks like you don't need my help." She pulled out her pole anyway and cast it into the large lake.
"Where've you been?" Danny bluntly asked her.
"Oh, I was just with Deacon," Renee answered him, "I was just uh, cheering him up a bit."
"Are you alright?"
"Of course I'm fine," Renee exclaimed, "Deacon's the one you should've been worrying about. But he's fine though; just in a bit of a bad mood. That's all."
"Renee," Danny said slowly, "I think Deacon might really be different than he seems to you. I just want you-" "To be careful. I know!" Renee finished his sentence. "I'm a big girl, Danny," she said, "You don't always have to try to protect me."
"Told you," Talia said quietly. Danny shot Talia an annoyed look.
"Suit yourself," Danny said to Renee, "I was just looking out for you, you know. I promised I always would."
"Danny, that was years ago," Renee laughed, "We're not at summer camp anymore." "What happened there?" Talia asked casually.
"We went to the same summer camp for a lot of years together," Danny explained, "Renee was a bit, um..."
"Dorky, yea," Renee completed his statement, "I got picked on a bit for being so skinny and the braces didn't help much either. But Danny wasn't one of the coolest dudes either."
"I had glasses," Danny exclaimed, "What's so bad about that?"
"Well, anyway," Renee continued, "He always stuck up for me and we became really good friends."
"I didn't even know you knew eachother before college," Talia commented, "You don't act like it at least."
Renee started, "Well, the last year there we, uh... we were, um..." She stopped.
"We just lost touch after our last year there," Danny finished.
"Yep." Renee said.
Talia looked as though she was going to ask another question, but Danny suddenly shouted. "GOT ANOTHER ONE!" He reeled in the largest fish any of them had caught all day.
"I never was as good as you," Renee said, "I just can't- OH WAIT! I got one! HELP!"
Danny stood behind her and helped her reel it in. "Crap," Renee scowled at a boot she just pulled off of her fishing line. "This is rediculous," she snarled, "I quit."
"Come on, we need your help," Danny stated.
"Where's Fred anyway?" Renee asked, carelessly throwing the boot into the woods.
"I dunno," Danny shrugged, "He ran off with that dog of his to the other side of the lake. I don't think he wanted company. He seems down about something."
"He's probably just sick of being here," Renee said, "Speaking of which... Seeing as all I can catch is a stinky old boot, I'm going to go back up to the house and get Deacon to help me start looking for that map." "Be careful," Danny muttered once more.
"Okay, Dad," Renee said sarcastically as she walked away smiling. The next few days went by quickly for most, but painfully slow for some.
Even though the weather was getting colder as each day went by, Fred spent most of his time outside with Fieval. He tried to read books or search for the map but it was difficult when Renee and Deacon were constantly found all throughout the house tangled together with their lips locked. They didn't go outside much, so Fred did. When he wasn't outside, he mostly hid in the kitchen and cooked meals. He was so anxious to leave now and it didn't seem like they were getting any closer. Tatum rarely came out of her room except to use the lav. Renee would bring her food and at least be able to calm her down for a little while before she drifted off to sleep. Tatum was extremely depressed; Renee could see that. Renee seemed to be the only person she would talk to. However, Tatum still would not tell her what was making her this upset. Renee knew it had to be something to do with Danny; but Tatum kept insisting she, herself, was the awful person and had done something unforgivable. Every time Renee would press the issue, Tatum's sobbing would increase; so they talked about make-up, fashion, celebrities and rarely anything else... especially not about the other people in the house. It seemed to upset her too much.
Renee knew she had to get Tatum out of here soon. There was only so much she could do for her here. The other four spent most of their time searching the house for the map but had so far been miserably unsuccessful. They found some useful books about wild life on the island, but nothing that was remotely close to even mentioning the one map of the house on the island.
They could also not avoid other chores such as cleaning, laundry, fetching water and fishing out at the lake. Deacon never helped with anything much, but Talia was getting much better at contributing to the stash of fish due to Danny teaching her how. The four of them spent so much time together, they were really starting to become good friends. Deacon and Renee were becoming the closest. They were inseperable; one could not be found without the other. They would sneak off frequently throughout the day to be alone despite Danny's constant complaints of, "We're never going to get out of here if you two keep running off and wasting time!". But neither of them felt like their alone time together was a waste; for any time enjoyed wasting is not wasted time at all. Deacon had been showing her a side of himself that he didn't even know existed. They actually spent most of it talking to get to know eachother better. One evening before bed, they were relaxing in Renee's room just chatting.
"So do you have any siblings?" Renee asked him.
"One brother. He's fifteen," Deacon answered, "You?"
Renee laughed and replied, "Six. Three brothers and two sisters plus one on the way."
"Your parents must be busy," Deacon commented, "And you must have a huge house."
"Not really," Renee said, "We have seventy-five acres of land but most of it is crops."
"So you're a country farm girl, huh?"
"I guess. Everyone in Bluewater village is. It's a real small town," Renee shrugged, "What about you?" "I grew up in the city in Oasis Valley," Deacon said, "Just my dad, me and my brother."
"What happened to your mum?" Renee asked.
"Walked out right after my bro was born. Ran off with some young buck," Deacon shrugged as he stared at the wall, "I was only three. I don't really remember her."
"Sorry."
"Doesn't matter." Deacon searched for a new subject, "Do you like music?" "I have to," Renee replied, "My twin brother plays guitar in a band."
"You have a twin?"
"Yea. His name's Roman," Renee answered, "But he's not at Uni. Roman decided not to go and try and make it with his band."
"I wish I could do that. I play the drums and I'm pretty damn awesome if I may so so myself," Deacon said, "But dad made me go to college. I hate school. Always have."
"Just like it for the parties, huh?"
"Hell yea," Deacon said, excitement rising in his voice, "You a party girl?"
"I don't drink, so-"
"What?!" Deacon said looking surprised, "I mean... that's cool."
"Roman does enough for the both of us," Renee stated, "He gets into too much trouble. I'd just rather avoid it all together." Deacon grabbed her and gave her a quick kiss, "We have better parties, just you and me, anyway."
"You're so cheezy," Renee laughed.
Deacon responded, "But that's why you love me, right?" 'What? Idiot!' Deacon thought to himself, 'Did I just say love? Nooo. $%*# I did! She didn't hear that, did she?'
Renee just silently smiled and nodded. Renee and Deacon weren't the only two who seemed to be getting along quite well.
One afternoon Renee walked in the kitchen (which had become extremely untidy over the week), unnoticed, to find Danny teaching Talia how to gut a fish. Fred was, as usual, keeping the kitchen fire going.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to gross you out," Danny said when he noticed Talia cover her mouth in disgust. "I'm just not used to doing this kind of stuff," Talia replied, "Being from the city really has luxories I never realized." She paused and admired Danny, "You're really good with this stuff, you know."
"Thanks," Danny smiled, "I learned it at camp."
"You're really nice to be teaching me too," Talia said. She really did like Danny; he was really smart and had a kind heart. Talia regretted making the assumption that he was just like his best friend, Deacon. She blushed and said, "I really wish I had gotten to know you better in high school."
"Well, I know you've always hated Deacon - what girl didn't? - and I was rarely without him," Danny said as he continued to demonstrate how to use the knife, "And you've always run around with Cyd and that Melissa girl. And not to be rude or anything, but your friend Melissa is a bit of a nutter; always giggling and staring at me." 'Oh my gosh! Melissa!' Talia suddenly thought, 'I can't believe I haven't been thinking about them. She would so love to be in my seat right now... gawking at Danny... even though he's gutting this horribly disgusting fish... with his big muscles...'
Danny was still talking but Talia only heard pieces of it, "Plus, you were the prettiest girl in school, although extremely quiet, and it was a bit intimidating. You always ignored everyone except your friends; I just thought you were snobby or something."
Talia's thoughts continued to stray, 'And Melissa'd love to be talking to him... looking into those bright green eyes... and hearing his soothing voice saying I'm pretty - Oh my gosh! Stop it! Stop checking him out! Stop thinking of him this way! Oh my gosh! He called me pretty. Melissa is so going to kill me!" "Are you alright?" Danny asked Talia as he put down the knife noticing she was no longer paying attention.
"Oh! Yea! Sure!" Talia giggled, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"You're acting weird," Danny laughed, "You looked a bit like your friend there for a minute."
"Sorry. Just spaced out," Talia said, "What were we talking about?"
"High school."
"Oh yea," Talia said, "Well, I'm really just glad I got stuck here with you."
Danny smirked and Talia, realizing what she said, quickly stood up. "I didn't mean it like that. I don't want to be stuck here with you," Talia was feeling hot and the speed of her speech increased, "I mean, I do. I just mean if I had to get stuck here, I'm glad you're the one I'm with. Well, there are other people I probably would've chose over you- oh, I didn't mean it like that. You're just so nice and I just really like you a lot and I'm glad-"
"I like you too, Talia," Danny interrupted her, still smirking.
"Sorry about high school and all," Talia randomly said.
Danny smiled, "I'll get over it." "I knew it!" Renee suddenly ran up to them.
Danny looked surprised and turned to her, "Knew what?"
"That you two would get together," Renee said, "I was just telling Deacon this morning that it would be so much fun if you guys-"
"Slow down, Renee," Danny said, "We don't move at Deacon speed."
Renee continued, "Well, I just thought when we get home-"
"If we get home," Danny interrupted, "Which we won't if you and Deac keep running off when we're trying to-"
"We'll get home," Renee cut him off, "And when we do, won't it be fun for the four of us to go on double-dates?"
"Come on, Talia," Danny grabbed her hand and started walking out the door, "Let's get away before that crazy lady has us married."
Renee remembered smiling at them as they left. She then turned to Fred at the fire, whose back was turned coldly toward her. Renee walked up to Fred and asked, "Alright?"
"Hey."
"I haven't seen much of you lately," Renee said, "Are you okay?"
"Yea," Fred sighed, "I just want to get out of here."
Renee stared into his eyes and it was then that she realized how selfish she had been. Her first priority wasn't finding a way out of here; it was Deacon. She was letting the others down; especially Fred and Tatum who were both in miserable moods.
"Do you want to come look for the map with me?" she asked him. "What about Deacon?" Fred asked her, a bitter ring to his tone.
"He's sleeping," Renee said, "Late night last night."
Fred could have cared less what Deacon was doing and he certainly didn't want to imagine what they were doing up so late last night either. He felt sick when he looked at Renee. It wasn't her fault. Fred should have told her how he felt from the beginning. He should have told her about the ballroom. After all, that was the night that Deacon and she got together. Fred wanted to tell her right then but he couldn't bring himself to do it; she would be mad at Fred as well as Deacon for hiding the truth.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Renee said noticing how pale Fred suddenly became, "Why don't you come sit down with me?"
She touched his hand. Pain surged through his entire body. He pulled it away and crossed his arms. "Er," Fred struggled to speak, "No thanks. I, uh, have to get some more firewood."
"Oh. Um, okay," Renee said, "I'll see you later then." She turned and left the kitchen, looking behind her before shutting the door only to see Fred's back turned coldly toward her once again.
It was painful for him to see her walk away. It was painful to constantly watch her melt into another man's arms. It was painful to be away from her and painful to turn her down. But not being able to hold her when she was right next to him touching him, not being able to tell her how he felt when he talked to her, looking into her eyes with such admiration that wasn't returned... Being with her; that was the most painful of all.
He thought of the princess and the pirate story as he poked the burning logs and wished he shared that kind of longing with Renee. He wished Deacon wasn't here; he wished none of the others were here. They could be alone on the island, just him and Renee, a secret love the rest of the world would never know. One entire week had passed since their arrival on the island. That evening, Renee walked into the great room to find Danny carelessly flipping through a book and Deacon sitting lazily infront of the fire.
"Oh, baby! You brought me soup?" Deacon said when he saw that Renee was carrying a bowl.
"No, this is for Tatum," Renee replied, "You can get your own soup."
"So can Tatum," Danny mumbled.
"Actually she's not doing so good," Renee said, "She still won't stop crying."
"Did she tell you what was wrong?" Deacon asked again. Renee found it strange that Deacon would not look at her when he asked her this at least once a day.
"No, not yet Deacon," Renee replied, "I just came in here to see if Danny wanted to take this up to her-" "I've told you a million times that I'm not going to do that," Danny said, "I don't care how long she stays up there; she's acting like a two year old."
"She is your fiance!" Renee exclaimed.
"Was," Danny said, "Not anymore."
"Don't you care about her at all?" Renee asked desperately.
"No," Danny said coldly, "Besides, Renee, weren't you the one who was just trying to push me and Talia together?"
"Well, I don't know what to do anymore," Renee complained, "It's a lot of work taking care of her! Plus, I keep dropping her food while climbing three flights of stairs!"
"Ditz," Deacon joked. "You do it then!" she held the bowl out to Deacon.
"No way," he said looking at her repulsively.
"Just leave her alone," Danny shrugged, "You're the one who gave me the 'I'm a big girl' speech."
"What?" Deacon asked them confused, "What's that?"
"Nothing," Renee said, "Well, I'm not going to let her up there alone. She's depressed. I'll make it a point to get her out of that room tomorrow."
Danny laughed, "Yea, have fun with that."
"I will," Renee said as she walked out of the room, "That's just what she needs."
"Meet you later, baby," Deacon called after her. He muttered, "Man, she's really something else." "Dude," Deacon said to Danny as he watched Renee leave, "Tomorrow's going to be the night."
Danny put his book down, as he wasn't really reading it anyway, and asked, "The night for what?"
"You know," Deacon raised his eyebrows, "THE night."
Danny smiled, "You mean you guys haven't had-"
"Nope."
Danny looked surprised, "Well I'm glad you're taking it slow... for you." "Although I think you might even be really rushing it for her," Danny continued, "It has only been a week. Did you guys talk about it?"
"No. But she's ready, bro. I can tell," Deacon boasted, "I mean a few times already we almost-"
"Spare me the details," Danny said. He sighed, "I still think you're rushing it."
"You're just jealous," Deacon said with a cocky tone.
"Of what?"
"That you still haven't had sex yet."
"Not that I need to tell you," Danny said a bit defensively, "But yes, I have."
"No you haven't," Deacon said, "You haven't even slept with Tatum."
"How do you know?"
"She told me you were making her wait for marriage," Deacon huffed, "What kind of guy does that?"
"Why would she tell you that?" Danny started to feel upset, "Besides, that's not who I was talking about." "Oh yea," Deacon let out a nasty laugh, "I forgot about your little imaginary girlfriend at camp."
"Come on, Deac," Danny shook his head in disbelief, "You should know I wouldn't lie about that now."
"Then how come I've never met this mysterious girl who stole your virginity?" Deacon asked snobbishly.
"You have."
"When?"
"I'm done talking about this-"
"See!" Deacon rudely laughed, "You did make her up!"
"No I didn't, Deac."
"Then who is she?"
"Deacon, I dont-"
"Liar!"
"IT WAS RENEE, OKAY?!" "What?" Deacon stood up and stared at Danny in disbelief.
Danny didn't say anything.
Deacon forced an obviously fake laugh and stuttered, "Y-you're kidding, r-right?"
"No." Danny replied seriously.
Deacon looked sick as he quietly asked, "Why didn't you tell me it was her?"
Danny answered, "Because I knew it would be weird..."
"She's the one you-?" Deacon stared into space as he stuttered, "And those stories when you-? That was all with her?!"
Danny silently nodded. Deacon suddenly looked angry and he let out a scream, "YOU'RE A LIAR!"
"I am not!" Danny said firmly as he stood up, "I didn't tell you because I knew it would make things uncomfortable!"
"You bet it does!"
"Now you know how I've felt with Tatum," Danny said, "After you dating her all those years, I felt like I was the back-up plan; a last resort! She was so obsessed with you."
"Yea but she's a maniac," Deacon didn't really realize his voice was raising as he continued to sputter, "Renee's different! She's so much more than anything I ever... she's just so... and she was with YOU... BEFORE me... you were her first... she was your only... no way. You have to be making this up just to piss me off! You're just jealous!"
"I am not making this up, Deac," Danny cried, "Just because I was with someone before you doesn't make me a liar. You're the one who's acting jealous!"
Deacon tightly closed his eyes and held his hands to his head which was now throbbing with pain, "I have to go talk to Renee about this-" "You can't," Danny demanded.
"Why?" Deacon looked at him hopefully, "Because you made it up?"
"No, Deac," Danny said shaking his head, "Because we promised eachother to keep it between just her and me."
"You're just saying that because you don't want me to find out you're a liar," Deacon yelled, "I'm going to go ask her now-"
"Don't do it!"
"Or what?"
"Or I will, uh..." Danny searched for what to say, "Or I, um... OH!... I'll tell her that you lied about the ballroom!"
"How did you-"
"Talia told me."
Deacon sighed. He couldn't remember ever feeling worse in his entire life. This new feeling he had for Renee was so exhilarating; he didn't think anything could bring him off the high. Of all things, he surely wasn't expecting this. He ALWAYS got the girls before Danny. The one Danny got before him was the only one he actually cared about.
"I'm going to bed," Deacon glared at Danny and stormed off to his room. The next morning, Renee forced Tatum to get up and leave her room. She didn't go too far - just to Renee's room - but that was at least a step up from being alone in her own. Renee washed Tatum's hair and combed it away from her face into a tiny ponytail (which was a big improvement from the greasy mess it had been for the past few days). She helped Tatum put on some make-up and was glad to see her finally stop crying enough to smile a little ("I look pretty damn good," she said as she looked in the mirror.). Renee spent the entire day with Tatum. They tried on fancy gowns from the old wardrobe and danced around. Renee told her the story about the princess and the pirate and the map that they were searching for to help them get off the island. They daydreamed about how romantic it would be to be the princess from the story (Tatum said, "I would've picked a cleaner man though. Pirates are dirty... but then again, he was filthy rich!"). They were actually having fun.
Tatum suddenly acted completely out of character and complimented Renee, "You know Renee, you're a really great friend." And a friend was just what Tatum needed.
Renee never thought it would have been possible from her first impression of Tatum, but she was beginning to like her. Tatum wasn't being pushy or bossy; because of whatever was bothering her, she was vulnerable and her in this state was much more tolerable... even fun! Tatum hadn't cried since early that morning so Renee didn't want to bring up the issue of what was bothering her.
Renee hadn't seen Deacon at all that day, although she was constantly thinking about him, and terribly missed his presence. It wasn't until very late that evening, when Tatum fell asleep in Renee's bed (gown and all!), that Renee got to join the others downstairs. Deacon wasn't in the great room - just Talia and Fred - and Renee was about to ask where he was when Danny suddenly rushed into the room interrupting them all. Danny exclaimed, "You guys, I am so stupid!"
"Well thanks for that announcement," Renee joked, "But we already knew that."
"No seriously," Danny said, "I was in my room looking through books and - damn, I am so thick - I found a book that I had read the very first night we were here. It was boring at the time but I think it's really significant!"
"What was it?" Talia asked excitedly.
"I think I remember most of it," Danny said and explained... "It was about two warriors of the island named Theo and Vince. See! It's about Maraya and Tobias's sons; the twins! If this isn't proof that the story is real, nothing is. Anyway... apparently, on the evening of the battle, the boys were at the shore where the family was ambushed. Their mother handed them the map and told them to run home and hide in the stone cellar below the house that nobody knew about except their family. When it was safe, the boys came out and were devistated to find their parents had in-deed been killed in the battle." "They remained on the island and raised themselves. With no parents around, they had naturally become very idependent. The boys rebuilt the crew's ship and took on a life of piracy but with no one to teach them, they weren't as successful as their parents. The twins were very different from eachother and that led to constant disagreements and fights between the pair of them." "Vince was the calmer of the two. He was always found with his nose in a book or a quill in his hand. His passion was to read and write and he vowed the night he discovered his parents' death that he would one day tell their story to the world."
"He must have wrote that other book!" Renee shouted.
Danny nodded saying, "I thought so too," and continued... "Theo, on the other hand, was a wreckless man. He picked a fight with anyone who disagreed with him or any fool who got in his way. He was a very physical being and a lot of his fights ended in his opponent's death. He was only concerned with wenches, weapons and gold and he would do anything including murder to get them." "Vince refused to use physical force and often just found himself hanging out in pubs (while Theo had his fun), animatedly telling the story of what he knew of his parents to anyone who would listen. He hadn't known the king of the valley was his grandfather until a man in a pub recognized the princess's name. It was rare to hear her name these days as the king had disowned her the day she left with Tobias. When Theo found out, he swore he would not rest until the king was dead. Vince refused to help." "But Theo would not let it rest. He found his way into the castle. Vince followed him all the way in attempt to stop him but Theo killed their grandfather with a single jab of his sword. Word quickly spread about the most wanted murderers throughout all the lands. There was something about Vince having a wife, who was expecting I think, and she fled in fear the moment she found out about the murder. Vince had been innocent, but nobody would believe him as he was there when Theo murdered the king. Vince was ashamed and furious with is twin. He took all of their treasure and burried it far from the house intending to save it for when he could be reunited with his wife and child. But it was too dangerous for Vince to ever go searching for them; he would immediately be killed if spotted. Theo was furious. The brothers went into hiding back on the island - they sealed away the one map of the island deep within the house's secret cellar - and never left the island again." "Wow," Renee said, "That must've been lonely."
"Sorry. I'm not as good of a story teller as Fred," Danny asked, "But now do you believe the story, Talia?"
"It does make sense," she said while stifling a yawn.
"So the map's still here!" Renee said excitedly, "What cellar is it referring to? How do we get there? Let's go find it!"
"Chill," Danny said, "We should talk to everbody else about it first. Plus, it's really late and we're all really tired; we should sleep on it."
"You always say that," Renee sighed. "Why waste any time?" Fred said, "The sooner we find it, the sooner we get out of here."
"Yea, let's go now," Renee agreed, "Plus it will be fun!" "Calm down, Renee," Danny laughed at her, "Tomorrow is not that far away. Plus, we don't even know where to start."
Renee started to beg, "Please Dan-" but Danny put his hand to her face and squeezed her cheeks so her lips protruded like a fish and her words were inaudible. She laughed. "Get your hands off of her!" Deacon yelled and he suddenly entered the room.
"We were just joking around," Danny dropped his hand and looked at Deacon in shock, "I wasn't doing anything-"
Deacon grabbed the collar of Danny's shirt and pulled him off the couch. Deacon yelled as he pushed Danny in the chest, "Just because you slept with her once doesn't mean you can freely touch her whenever you want!" Renee looked positively humiliated. "You what?" Talia said shocked.
"Talia..." Danny started but she interrupted.
Talia scolded Danny, "I asked you and you said you didn't have feelings for her. I knew you did. You talk about her all the time and I see the way you look at her. Now it all makes sense."
"We're just good friends," Danny timidly replied, "It was a long time ago, at camp, and-" "The point is you lied to me," Talia said, not yelling, but looking extremely angry.
Deacon laughed.
Renee looked embarassed. She desperately stared at Fred, trying to examine his reaction, as if asking for help. Fred had certainly not seen this coming. He couldn't help but laugh a little inside. Deacon was raged with jealousy; his perfect little world was crashing down. He knew all the secrets had to come out eventually; tonight had to be THE night (and it didn't look like it was going to be Deacon's). Fred gazed at Renee's pleeing expression but all he could offer her was a smile. "Quit laughing, Deacon," Talia turned her attention to Deacon who looked surprised at being addressed, "You're worse than he is. You slept with Tatum."
Danny initially didn't look surprised... but then again, how did she know that?
"What are you talking about?" Danny asked her.
Deacon pleaded, "Please... Talia... no-"
"That day when Deacon claimed to be cleaning the ballroom for his precious Renee, he was actually upstairs screwing your fiance right under your nose," Talia said it. Deacon tried to stop her, but it had been too late; the damage was done.
"WHAT?!" Danny yelled. Renee's heart shot up into her throat. She couldn't speak or even breathe. She looked over at Fred who purposely stared at his lap avoiding her gaze. This wasn't possible. It couldn't be true.
"Some best friend you turned out to be," Talia spat at Deacon and left the room.
Deacon immediately turned to Renee, who was now standing with her face burried in her palms. Deacon said regretfully as he slowly put his arm around her shoulder, "Renee, listen, I tried to tell you. It was all just a big misunderstanding-" "Don't touch me," Renee flung Deacon's arm off of her shoulder, "Misunderstanding? How can you call all that a misunderstanding?!"
"Renee, I didn't mean to hurt you," Deacon cried, "It was before-"
"I don't want to hear it," Renee cut him off, "You're a fake and a liar!" Deacon tried to hold her hand but she pulled it away, "But Renee I lo-"
"Don't you dare say it," Renee whispered fiercly, "Get - out!"
"But-"
"GET OUT!" Deacon hesitantly turned away and slowly sulked out of the room. Renee wouldn't look at him. She sank into the couch hiding her face in her hands.
Danny stood still and silent, trying to comprehend what all had just happened.
Fred stared at Renee and wished he could hold her and tell her it would all be okay.
But nobody said anything for what felt like an eternity. "Fred, would you please make sure Talia's okay?" Danny finally spoke, "And I want to talk to Renee."
Fred felt awkward, being the only one there not twisted into the mess. He had anticipated the truth about the ballroom coming out, but that looked so minimal compared to what Deacon had done with Tatum. Fred didn't want to leave; he wanted to be there to comfort Renee when she needed it. But he felt uncomfortble amidst the two who had just been hurt by the person they should have been able to trust most.
Fred nodded and silently left the room. Danny sat down next to Renee on the couch.
She sniffed and wiped her eyes. "I know," she said.
"Know what?" Danny responded.
"You told be to be careful," Renee stated, "And I didn't listen."
"I'm just as much of a fool as you are," Danny was speaking pretty calm for the disturbing news he had just been given, "My best friend and my fiance slept together right behind my back." "Well technically, she wasn't your fiance anymore," Renee said looking at him.
Danny laughed a little. "Well technically, Deacon wasn't your boyfriend yet either."
"Still." Renee sighed, "It's just I never thought he'd lie about something so big. He was with her... in the same bed that we slept in. And that night... with the ballroom... it was all fake. And how could Tatum do this to us? Now I know what she's so upset about. I actually thought she was my friend."
"To be honest, I almost don't care," Danny shrugged, "I knew Tatum wasn't right for me. I shouldn't have proposed to her so soon but she was just so persistant." He paused. "And Deacon," he said shaking his head in dissapointment, "This is an all time low for him. He's done some pretty shady stuff before but this?! I almost thought he really did like you too."
Renee frowned, "I'm so stupid not to have realized it." "Yea, you are," Danny said, "But so am I."
Renee let out a weak laugh. She asked, "How did Deacon find out about you and me anyway?"
"Oh, sorry. I told him," Danny said apologetically, "He was getting my goat. You know how Deac is."
"Obviously not," Renee said as she shivered.
"Come here," Danny motioned. He wrapped his arm around her and wiped a single tear from her cheek.
"This is just like that night at camp," Renee smiled at him, "When those boys were after me and you came and told them off... we ran into the deserted lounge and stayed up all night. I was so nervous, you know, but I had never felt so close to someone as I did to you that night. Remember?"
"Every detail. I really did think you tried to forget about it. I thought you regretted it and hated me," Danny said, "Why did you stop you writing to me?"
"I didn't want anyone to find out about it - not because of you, of course - because I didn't want my family to look down on me," Renee explained, "Plus, I thought I'd never see you again after camp. It was just easier to let it go then than to keep my hopes up." "Well you were obviously wrong about that," Danny smiled, "Because we're here together now... except no braces or glasses. Still a bit dorky though." He winked.
"You're still the same as you were back then," Renee laughed, her tears had vanished, "I never realized how much I missed you."
"I missed you too," Danny hugged her, "It will all be okay." As they went to release their embrace, they looked at eachother. "You're a really great friend," Renee said but at that moment as she looked into his eyes, it felt like more than that. It felt the way it did that night at camp not so long ago, except they were a little less nervous and a lot less awkward. It felt familiar and safe. The excitement they had felt those years ago seemed to return as they gazed into eachother's eyes.
"You know," Danny said quietly, "You're still the only person I've been with."
"Really?" Renee said surprised and responded a little shy, "Me too."
They were caught up in the moment. It may have been because of the nostalgia... or it may have been that they were both hurting the same way inside... or it may have been the warmness of their bodies so close together on that cold evening... But before they could even think about it, the feeling carried them away deep into the night. Thanks for reading!

I don't think anyone saw that one coming! Sorry guys, I honestly super rushed this part so I really hope It's not just a bunch of babble. Please excuse any grammar and spelling mistakes or anything else weird I may have typed. And please be nice. If you like it, keep alert for Oasis Island 5 where much more of the plot will unravel!

Ahhh I got so excited when I saw this up! Like honestly. And I really didn't expect that. But I still really want Renee and Fred to get together. And I was wrong thinking that Fred was one of the twins. But now I'm thinking that he's Vince's son! God you're such an amazing writer. I'm jealous.
I definately can't wait for the next part.

Omg, this part is AMAZING!! I'm so happy to see it posted. And I don't feel that it was rushed at all. I feel dumb about thinking Fred was one of the twins. Duh!! He said he didn't have any family!!! LoL. I remember that now. Hah. And I was the first one to say outloud that he might be one of the twins.
Oops. Sorry guys!! Haha. Anywho, it's freaking amazing just like the rest. This part is a huge shocker though. I knew Deacon was going to hurt Renee, but I didn't know that Renee and Danny had amazing nights together. LoL.
Poor poor Fred. Just like everyone else, I'm hoping that him and Renee would get together, but after Danny and Renee reenacting their previous camp nights, I'm not to sure anymore. 5.0!!!

Wow! Mindblowing! Crazy awsome! I can't belive it all came out! Renee & DANNY! I did not see that coming, especialy with the reenactment part! I thought he liked Talia. So Fred is a decendent of Vince the smart one maybe? Now I'm not so sure about the whole Renee & Fred thing I mean I want him to be happy but how can he get her now with Danny and everything. I feal like Tatum is gradualy becoming more distant from the story, I think you need to bring her back in. Anyhoo I just really loved it and honestly this is the best series I have ever read on this site, or and site for that matter.

So, I hope they'll made it up...

they are so *real*! I mean, they do not just *describe* what's going on, they're actual conversations...
I adore that. I do think that you're really talented!!!

you promised me the drama and, sure, I got it!!!
I would have never ever expect all ...that!
I loved it, though.
I was just wondering what Talia saw that afternoon in Deacon's room, but... wow!
I really, really, *really* hope that Fred won't caught on them
I never noticed before how *cute* Danny actually is...
Oh, I hope we won't have to wait for the next installment as long as for this one, I just cant get enough of your story...
