Oasis Island 9

If you haven't, you should really read part 8 before this one (or again to refresh your memory). It's good stuff.
And since it's been quite a while, here's a short recap for those of you who have read it...

In part 8, Deacon promised to stop drinking if Renee would agree to go on a date with him. On the night of their date, Fred revealed that he would be leaving the next day so Renee promised to go to his apartment right after her date to spend the night. Deacon took her to a nice dinner and while they danced, he kissed her. Alarmed that she kissed him back in a weak moment, Renee ran from the restaurant and headed to Fred's apartment... only to find that he had already gone without saying goodbye. She ran back to her dormitory in the pouring rain and found herself locked out of her room. Her good friend Danny offered for her to stay in his for the night and gave her his dry shirt to sleep in. After seeing that Renee was so depressed about Fred leaving, he offered to take her to the formal dance the following month.
The next morning, Renee awoke forgetting for a moment where she was. She rubbed her eyes that were still tender from their activity the night before and spotted Danny sleeping beneath her.

"Wake up," she gently scratched his chest, "Dan, get up. It's almost eleven o'clock."

He yawned and wiped the sleep from his eyes, "Mornin'."

"I better get going," Renee said.
"Are you sure you're going to be okay?" he asked while helping her up from the couch, "I mean about Fred leaving and all."

"Yea," Renee nodded as she stood up, "Thanks for letting me stay here."

"What are friends for?" Danny smiled, "Don't forget about going to the formal with me next month. We'll have a blast, I promise."

"You bet," Renee hugged him, "Thanks again. I'll clean and bring your shirt back later."

"Don't worry abou-"
"What is going on?!" Deacon suddenly entered the room and shouted.

"Nothing," Danny insisted.

"It doesn't look like nothing," Deacon yelled. He cornered Danny, "You... you slept with her again, didn't you?"

"No," Danny said, backing away, "Nothing happened. It's not what it looks like at all."
"You said you had to help a friend," Deacon suddenly turned and screamed at Renee, "Did you mean to say screw my best friend?"

"We didn't do anything," Renee tried to explain, "I was locked out of my dorm-"

"A-and her clothes were all wet from the rain," Danny continued, "So I leant her my shirt."

"You expect me to believe that?" Deacon scolded them.

"Believe what you want," Renee couldn't handle this right now, "I gotta go." She brushed passed him and out the door. "Thanks again, Danny," she added before leaving.
Deacon followed her out into the hallway, shouting. Danny was close behind muttering plees for him to keep it down.

"That's not how it works, Renee," Deacon yelled, "You don't go out on a date with someone, kiss them, then go have sex with their best friend and expect to just walk away from it all!"

Danny spotted Talia out of the corner of his eye. She gasped and quickly went back into her room, forcefully slamming the door behind her.

"Don't do this Deacon, please," Renee looked at him sorrowfully, "I never promised you anything!" Deacon continued to shout after her as she walked to her room where Priya, still dressed in her night-gown, was kissing Blaine goodbye.
"What's going on?" Priya asked when she approached them, "Where are your clothes?"

"Fred left without saying goodbye," Renee said. She surprised herself at how angry her tone was. Was she angry at Fred... or herself? Renee clumsily knocked into Blaine as she rushed passed him to enter her room.

"What monkey took her banana?" Blaine asked.

Priya had no idea what he meant but she never did and, frankly, never cared. "I don't know," she replied, "But I better go see what's wrong." She kissed him and closed the door behind her.
"Whose shirt is that?" Priya asked.

"Danny's," Renee simply answered. She just didn't feel like talking about the situation anymore.

"You were intimate with him again?!" Priya cried, shocked, "What happened? I thought you were going to Fred's apartment!"

"I already told you," Renee spat, "He left."

Deacon started banging on the door. "Let me in," he shouted, "I'm not done talking to you, Renee! You kissed me, Renee! Did that mean nothing to you?"
"Renee!" Priya shouted, "You kissed Deacon and then slept with Danny? Just because Fred left doesn't mean you have to jump every guy you see. This is so typical of you. Now you have the entire hall in an uproar. You don't always have to be with someone, Renee!"

Renee didn't say anything; just scowled in anger. How could Priya just assume that? Renee wished she could shout the truth at Priya but she had worn her emotions out and just didn't feel like the argument. She jumped into her bed, pulled the covers over her head, and didn't talk for the rest of the day.
"What do you mean you're taking HER to the DANCE?" Talia shouted at Danny. He had forced the door open to her room when she had slammed it shut so tightly after witnessing the scene in the hallway.

"I told you, Talia," Danny tried to calmly explain it again, "Fred's gone and Renee has no one to go with."

Talia scowled at him; her jealousy was taking control of her once again. "I'm not going with anyone either!" Talia continued to shout, "Why does she get to go with my boyfriend? She is such a... a... a sl-"
"Don't say that about Renee!" Danny said angrily, "It's far from the truth. She wouldn't have agreed to it if she knew we were dating. I'm ready to tell people... when will you be?"

"I can't because of my friends!" Talia yelled back, "You know that! And would you want Tatum messing with our relationship too?" She paced back and forth her room. "And stop trying to change the subject," she screamed, "If Renee is not what she seems to be, explain to me why she was kissing Deacon when she was supposed to be with Fred! And why she spent the night with you! And why she is wearing only your shirt and you both are walking around half-naked... not to mention displaying it to the entire dormitory!"
"Again, I already told you," Danny said. This argument was just going around in circles. "I'm just trying to be a good friend," Danny explained, "Renee is nothing more than a really, really great friend to me. If she was, I wouldn't be here with you. I thought she was your friend too."

Talia started to feel bad. Renee was her friend and here she was saying all these awful things about her. "She is my friend," Talia said, calming down, "I just wish you and I were as close as you and her."

Danny smiled, holding his hand out to her, "We've only just begun."
Renee hadn't left her dorm room in three entire days. The only person she would talk to was Danny and even then, she didn't say much. He told her he explained the truth to Deacon and to everyone else. Renee was just so furious with Deacon for embarassing her like that infront of the whole dormitory that she didn't want to even think about it.

All she really wanted was to see Fred again. But although she missed him terribly, she couldn't help but feel angry that he had left her.

She wondered what he was doing right then. Was he looking for the artifact in Veronaville? Did he already find it and was at the castle ruins unlocking more secrets from his past? Her thoughts shifted to their meeting with Able... who was the girl he was talking about that had come around questioning him before the two of them? Did somebody else know what they were up to? It didn't matter anyway... Fred was gone and he didn't need Renee anymore. Had he found his treasure and decided not to return?
"What do you want?" Renee snapped as Priya approached her bed that morning, interrupting her thoughts.

"Will you please just talk to me?" she responded, "I talked to Danny and he told me what happened. I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions. I didn't realize what you were going through. I should have been there for you. I'm really sorry."

"You don't understand," Renee just said.

"Then help me to," Priya said.
He left," Renee said sadly, slowing standing up, "Fred just left without saying good-bye. Do I really mean that little to him? I feel useless."

"I was around you two more than anyone else," Priya said calmly, "I saw the way he looked at you. Fred was completely infatuated with you, Renee. I could only hope that someone would ever love me half as much as he loves you."

"Love?" Renee laughed, "Hardly. If you loved somebody, you wouldn't leave them without a good-bye."

"Maybe he just didn't want to say good-bye," Priya tried to comfort her, "Didn't you ever stop to think how much it might have hurt him to leave?"
"Then why did he leave?" Renee spewed, "I don't want to be, but I am just so angry with him! I don't even know if he's coming back! Why didn't he just stay here with me?"

"You would know better than I would," Priya replied, "You two were always off in your little secret world. I know this might sound selfish, but I'm actually glad to have my best friend back. Please don't hate me anymore. I'm really sorry."

"I don't hate you," Renee said, softening, "I just really miss Fred. But if he's going to leave and just forget about me, maybe I should just move on too."

"I kind of hate to say it," Priya said, "But that might be for the best." She smiled at her best friend, just glad that she was on her feet and talking to her once again. "I'm still here," Priya said, "And I'm not leaving you."
"Thanks," Renee said as Priya pulled her into a hug.

"Now let's get to that moving on stuff," Priya started to say as Renee backed away, "Blaine and the gang are all going to the pub for kareoke night. Danny will be there and I think your friend Talia is going too. Why don't you come?"

"Er," Renee asked, "Will Deacon be there?"
"Oh, Renee," Priya wined, "Probably but I need you there. I don't know anyone else except Blaine and he's not so good socializing. He can't carry on a conversation so well."

"He can't really even form a sentence, Priya," Renee laughed. "All right, I'll go," Renee finally agreed, "But if Deacon tries anything funny, you better get me out of there or I will kill him."

Priya laughed. "I told you," she smiled, "I'm not leaving you."

"Okay then."

"But first thing's first," Priya said, smiling, "We have to go to class so take a shower and brush your hair... you look like crap."
"So do you want to go to the movies with me and Cyd tonight?" Melissa asked Talia that day in class, "It's some gory horror movie but Cyd really wants to see it."

"I, uh," Talia searched her brain for an excuse; she couldn't tell Melissa she was going to be out with Danny that night. "I have to do a research paper tonight," she lied, "For, uh, my marketing class."

"Hm," Melissa said, "That's weird..."

"Weird?"

"Yea," Melissa looked at her suspiciously, "Since you worked on that paper for three nights last week too."
"Well, uh, yea," Talia stuttered, "The professor really gives us a lot of papers to do. He grades hard too... I just really don't want to fail his class."

Melissa looked suspicious for a moment more, but then she smiled, "That's rough. It's been pretty boring without you around lately since you're always working on assignments. Well, maybe the three of us can do something tomorrow night."

"Yea," Talia smiled nervously, "Maybe."
The pub was quite busy that night. Renee sat quietly at the table surrounded by her friends. She silently laughed to herself at the girl up on the stage who was moving awkwardly and singing very badly out of tune. 'She must be drunk,' Renee thought. The girl didn't look like she had a care in the world. Renee wished she could feel that way even if it was only temporary.

Renee stared down at her tall glass of soda... that certainly wouldn't do the trick.
"This is to the success of our new band," Deacon held up a glass and toasted the group, "And to Blaine spraining his ankle from falling off of the stage. May he be resting well while we have all of the fun tonight!"

Roman laughed. "And here's to Renee for getting out of her room for a night," he said cheerfully, the effect of his drink already obvious, "And to Danny who we all now know didn't recently shag her."

Renee turned beat red and covered her face in embarassment. She didn't notice as Priya suddenly stole her glass, switching it with her own. Renee rubbed her head and then picked up her glass, downing its buzzing liquid in one gulp.
Priya almost immediately regretted it. Renee had promised herself she would never drink but she was desperate for a release and Priya just wanted to help.

The moment it touched her tongue, Renee shuttered, aware of the strange bitter taste. Renee sighed as she put down the empty glass complaining in her head about how the constant changes they make to soft drinks only make them taste worse.
Renee remembered sitting there talking to the group for a while after the waitor refilled her glass with one lousy soda after another. Priya started complaining to Roman about how clumsy Blaine was and Talia and Danny were whispering about something Renee couldn't hear. Deacon was silent for the moment, shooting Renee short glances every now and then. He hadn't yet talked to her about what happened in the dormitory those few nights ago.

"Want to sing a song next?" Renee suddenly said to him almost unaware that she did.

"What?" Deacon responded, surprised that she was talking to him let alone proposing a duet, "You and me?"

"Yea," Renee said carelessly, "Let's do that song you used to sing to me at night when we were on the island."

Deacon's heart jumped as he was reminded of the most wonderful week he could remember. "Yea, okay," Deacon agreed and Renee didn't wait another second as she pulled him onto the stage.
Everyone was dancing to their up-beat duet. They were all so tipsy, they didn't question how Renee and Deacon ended up there together... or why Danny and Talia were dancing so close... or why Priya didn't seem to miss Blaine as she danced with Roman and some long haired boy Renee had never seen before. "You embarassed me, you know," Renee said to Deacon as they hopped off the stage and another couple took their place.

"I'm sorry," Deacon was laughing, "My singing voice isn't very good when I drink."

"No," Renee continued, "I meant the other day when you were yelling at me in the dormitory. The whole hall thinks I'm a hussy now. You're the one who kissed me and I can't believe you thought I slept with Danny."

"You kissed me back, Renee. I thought we were having a good time. Then you just ran away and I find you the next morning half-naked with my best friend," Deacon sighed. "You slept with him before," he added, "Why shouldn't I think you would again?"

"Because."

"Oh. Good answer," Deacon said sarcastically. "Look, Danny told me nothing happened and I believe him. But I don't get you. Why did you run away?"

"Well, you went to a party right afterwards to get drunk after you promised me you'd stay sober," Renee retorted without answering his question.

"I didn't go to a party," Deacon responded.
"Then why did you tell Danny that you did?"

"Because I didn't want him to know what I was really doing."

"Which was what?" Renee curiously pushed him to answer.

"I was writing a song," Deacon found himself admitting. He never told these kind of things to anybody. But this was Renee; she wasn't just anybody to him... and perhaps the alcohol had a bit to do with his confession. "I just really like to be alone when I do so I stayed at my Dad's house. And I didn't want Danny calling me a fairy like he always does when I sing. I have a reputation to keep up, you know."

"You're funny," Renee was smiling and she suddenly started to laugh awkwardly.

"Are you okay?" Deacon asked her.

"Yea maybe," Renee was still smiling strangely, "It's really loud in here. And we should really talk about last night. Do you want to maybe go talk out back?"

"You're not going to kill me, are you?" Deacon laughed... a little bit nervously.
The outside of the back of the pub was dark. The moon and stars dimly lit the black night and the only other light was coming from the door that led back inside. There was a small garden and a lively birch tree that shaded the bench below it. The only sounds were the crickets chirping, cars driving by and the faint sound of the music from beyond the pub door.

Renee just stared at him and randomly asked, "What was your song about?"

Deacon answered, a little caught off guard. "Well I, er, kind of got inspired after being with you so uh," Deacon dizzily admitted, "It's about you I guess."

Renee laughed.

"Are you making fun of me?" Deacon looked at her through his blurred vision. She was laughing hard. He was glad to see her at least smiling and he didn't know why, but he joined in and they continued to laugh for no particular reason at all.

"So uh, what were we going to talk about?" Renee finally said through their giggles.
"I don't remember," Deacon shrugged as he struggled to stand straight up.

"Well what do you want to do?" Renee asked him.

"You," the word quickly left Deacon's mouth.

Renee laughed and strangely said, "I've been waiting for you to say that."

Deacon examined her glassy eyes. "Renee, are you drunk?" he couldn't believe he was the one asking her that.

"I don't know," Renee shrugged, as she giggled, "I never have been before."

"But I didn't even think you drank anything," Deacon couldn't help but laugh, "I can't believe Renee Speeler is drunk!"

"So?" Renee smiled, "You are too."
Only the moon and the stars saw what happened in the garden behind the pub that night. It was three in the morning as the pub was closing and Roman went out back looking for Renee.
Deacon was pulling her up off the bench while trying to replace one of her shoes. She looked like she had just been sleeping.

"What's going on?" Roman questioned them, "You two better hurry. Priya's holding a cab out front and waiting for us. Danny and Talia left a while ago."
Renee fell into Roman's arms, slurring, only half-awake. Her hair had fallen messily out of its clip and her clothes were in disarray.

"Is she okay?" Roman asked Deacon.

Deacon yawned as he rubbed his head. It seemed he had passed out too. "She's a bit of light weight I guess," Deacon answered.

"Renee drank?" Roman said, shocked, "What was going on between you two back here?"
"Nothing." Deacon answered.

"I'd kick your ass right now if I wasn't so hammered myself," Roman said as he scooped Renee up in his arms and carried her into the pub. "Do you swear nothing happened?" Roman asked him.

"Yea," Deacon said aloud and then whispered to himself as Roman walked away, "I think..."
The week went by without any mention about the night at the pub as most of them really couldn't remember it anyway. Especially Renee. She didn't suspect Priya of swapping their drinks; she assumed that the bar tender must have brought her the alcohol by mistake. She had thought about submitting a complaint to the pub owner but she felt so stupid that she didn't realize what the drink really was and she decided not to. Surprisingly, everybody seemed to be on good terms with eachother over the next few weeks.
Fred was still constantly in the midst of Renee's every day thoughts, but being in the company of her friends most of the time tended to mask them for a while.

Priya had pointed out to Renee numerous times that Renee had been flirting with Deacon, but Renee denied it.

Her promise to Fred still held her heart, 'I'll wait for you... however long you take.'
Deacon, on the other hand, had been trying to get the courage to ask Renee out again. With Fred gone, Renee was around him a lot more. And with Renee there all of the time, Deacon was happy so he hadn't been partying at all. The two of them were getting along so well lately that Deacon hesitated to ask her on a date in fear that it might push her away.

One day after class, she was out in the hallway looking at the bulletin board for posted grades. When he approached her, she smiled widely at him.

"Hey Renee," he greeted her casually, "I'm assuming you did good on your last test."

"Sort of," Renee smirked, "Technically, Priya's the one who did good on my last test."
Deacon laughed.

He finally thought he had mustered up enough confidence to ask her out again. "Hey," he said, "I was just thinking that maybe we-"

"Holy crap!" Renee suddenly blurted out at something behind Deacon.
"What?" Deacon asked her, confused.

"That's Able," Renee said, staring at the dark figure strolling passed them.

"Who?" Deacon, bewildered, looked around.

Renee swore and exclaimed, "He's coming over."
"Hello Ms. Speeler," Able greeted her with his deep, rough voice.

Renee thought it strange that he remembered her name so well since they had only met the one time. "Hi," Renee simply said, "What brings you here?" Renee noticed a large package in his right hand.

"Actually, I was just dropping something off to the historical research department for safe keeping," Able responded, "They have good security here; better than my shack of a house." He peered around the room, seemingly looking for something. "Say," he continued, "Where's your little red-headed friend?"

Renee knew he meant Fred so she answered, "Oh. Well, he doesn't go to school here anymore actually. He finished after last semester."
"Oh," Able responded, "Well does he still live locally?"

"No," Renee answered him, "He actually moved back home."

"Home, eh?" Able said, "Veronaville, right?"

"Uh," Renee started to feel uncomfortable. How did he remember all of this? "I think so," she said quietly.

"Interesting," Able said, almost to himself. "Well," he continued, "Nice to see you. Enjoy the rest of your day." He nodded to her and then to Deacon and then walked away.

'Why did he want to know so much about Fred?' Renee thought to herself, 'And what was he bringing to the university to keep safe?' It just all seemed a little suspicious.
"Who was that?" Deacon's voice came from beyond her thoughts.

"Oh," Renee's responded, "He's, uh, nobody really."

"Is he a friend of yours?" Deacon asked her, suspicion in his voice.

"Not really," Renee said, not wanting to explain how she knew the former professor.

"Are you starting to go for the older men?" Deacon asked her, trying to sound playful, although he was really feeling jealous.

"What?" Renee laughed, "It's not like that at all. He's just some professor that used to work here. I met with him last semester for some stuff. That's all." Renee didn't want to talk about it anymore. "Come on," she took Deacon's hand and started walking down the hallway, "Let's go meet the others for lunch."
Renee thought about her encounter with Able all day, and along with that, about Fred and his journey.

Priya was studying late that night in their dorm room and Renee couldn't sleep. She couldn't stand to sit anymore in the tensioned silence.

Renee made her way to the common room and was lost in her thoughts for a while... It had been almost a month since Fred had left, the dance was tomorrow and there was certainly no sign of him coming back like she had hoped.
"What's wrong?" Deacon asked as he sat down next to her.

"Oh," Renee, startled by his sudden appearance, responded, "Just thinking about the formal I guess."

"That you have to go with two-left-feet Danny?" Deacon smiled, "Yea, I'd be miserable about that too."

Renee laughed. "It's not that."
"Well, I'd offer to take you instead but I'll be playing in the band," Deacon said, "At least you're not going alone."

Then why did she feel so alone?

"Thanks, Deac," she responded.

"Well, save me one dance, okay?" Deacon said, "Roman's actually going to sing a ballad that I wrote and I won't be playing the drums for. I'll give you a break from Danny for a few minutes."

Something sparked in Renee's memory.... 'A ballad that Deacon wrote?'...
"Hey, Renee," Deacon slowly scooted toward her, gathering his confidence once more, "I know our dinner date didn't really end that well... and I'm not sure if I officially apologized to you for embarassing you or not... the night at the pub is pretty blurry to me but I think we talked about it... and I think I had fun singing with you then too... but well, what I'm trying to say is that I'm sorry. And I'd really like to um, try going out again sometime.... if you want to that is."

"Oh, I don't know Deac," Renee muttered, "I'm not so sure that's a good idea."

"I had a really great time with you last time," Deacon said, "Before you ran away that is."

"Well, you promised me you'd stay sober but right after our date you went and...." Renee paused. Didn't they already have this conversation? Didn't he admit that he didn't actually go to a party? She continued as it came back to her, "And... and... you wrote a... a song..."
"...for me."

"Crap. Did I tell you that at the pub? I barely remember," Deacon blushed and said sarcastically, "Well that's not embarassing or anything."

"No," Renee smiled a little, "It's actually kind of sweet."

Deacon couldn't help it. He put his arm around her and pulled her into him.
She hugged him back, comforted by the way he seemed to care about her so much. He was so intoxicating and Renee found herself succumbing to it once again.

Deacon couldn't control his words as they embraced. "I love you, Renee," he whispered in her ear.

Renee couldn't say it back. Not while a large piece of her heart still belonged to someone else. "Deacon, we need to talk-"

But Deacon didn't want to talk.
His lips touched hers and he quickly conquered any resistance Renee may have been able to muster. For several minutes she was lost in him.

When his hand suddenly grazed her thigh, her entire body jumped.

She remembered.

She remembered him touching her there before not so long ago...

in the dark...

on a bench...

behind the pub...
"Deacon, no," Renee suddenly backed away, "I think.... I think we...."

"What?" Deacon asked, a little alarmed at her sudden outburst, "What's wrong this time?"

"At the pub we..." Renee's words trailed off. "Nothing," she suddenly said, "I have to go."

"Why do you keep doing this to me?" Deacon said as she stood up, "Tell me what's wrong."

"I just can't," she said lamely and she turned to run down the hallway.
"Why are you fighting this, Renee?" Deacon yelled after her, "I know you want it too!" Renee burst into her dorm room and quickly locked the door behind her. She was relieved to see that Priya had finally stopped studying and gone to sleep. What was going on?

Renee was confused about her feelings. She started to feel horrible about leaving Deacon hanging again. Memories of him suddenly flooded her mind from the day she met him, to the island, to their night at the pub, to the recent evening. Deacon had so many sides to him that Renee had trouble figuring out who he really was. That night, thinking about what he had said to her, she could almost see herself being with Deacon again... but there was a strong promise standing in the way. A promise that Renee wanted to keep more than anything... however hopeless it seemed.

Why did Deacon keep pursuing her when he knew she didn't want to be with him? He knew she didn't feel the same way about him and yet he kept taking advantage of her weak and vulnerable moments. How could she let him get to her like that? It all wasn't right. It had to stop.
The next day, Renee, Danny and Talia went to the pub to watch the band practice for the formal that evening.

"Renee," Danny said, "Would you please stop moping around and tell me what's wrong?"

Renee was sprawled out on the large sofa. She heavily sighed, "I just don't feel good."

"Bull," Danny responded, "You're not getting out of going to the dance with me tonight."

"I'm sorry Danny, it's not that," Renee explained, "I'm happy to be going with you." She sighed again while her mixed thoughts and emotions rushed through her, "I just have had a lot on my mind lately."

"Fred, right?" Danny said.
"Let's not talk about that," Renee forced herself to sit up. She didn't want to seem so pathetic. "So Talia," Renee changed the subject, "Who are you going to the dance with?"

"Just my friends," Talia answered, "Melissa and Cyd."

"Oh, Cyd Roseland?" Renee said, "He's in our advertising class." Renee smiled, "He's pretty cute. Anything going on between the two of you?"

Talia laughed, "No. Melissa and he have actually been dating for a little over a year now."

"Oh, I didn't know that," Renee said, "That'll be kinda weird going with a couple, won't it?"

"Maybe," Talia answered, "Especially since he told me he's going to ask her to spend the night with him for the first time."

"That will be awkward," Renee laughed, "Geez, maybe you should go with Danny then and I'll just stay home and cry myself to sleep."

"Stop it, Renee," Danny rolled his eyes but Talia had secretly wished Renee was serious.
"High five," Roman jumped off of the stage, "We totally rock."

"Yea, that was really good guys," Talia complimented them, "You'll be a hit at the dance."

"Hey, Renee," Deacon said approaching her. They hadn't yet discussed the event in the common room of the previous evening.

Renee wasn't quite ready to talk about it yet. Not here. "I gotta get some coffee," Renee suddenly said, pretending not to hear Deacon, jumping up from her seat and grabbing Talia, "Come with."
Deacon approached Danny and scratched the back of his head uncomfortably, "Hey Danny, I've really been wanting to ask you something."

"Yea?"

"Well seeing as you're going to the dance with Renee tonight," Deacon continued, "And you guys have that whole history and stuff together... Do you think anything is going to happen between the two of you?"

"Deacon, no," Danny answered, "I told you it's not like that between us anymore. I know you really like her, all right? I promise nothing like that is going to happen. But I gotta tell you bro, I think it's pretty hopeless. You know she's still pretty hung up on Fred."

"He's gone, Dan. It's his loss. She'll get over him. Anyway," Deacon shrugged and changed the subject, "Hey, have you heard of a professor named Able?"

"No," Danny answered him, "Why?"
"He's this older, rough looking dude that we ran into yesterday," Deacon whispered, "Renee acted all weird around him. He was asking all kinds of questions about Fred leaving. I think they're dating or something."

"I doubt it, Deac," Danny laughed, "I think Renee would tell me if she was dating somebody."

"Renee doesn't tell you everything, you know," Deacon said defensively.

"Yea she pretty much does," Danny answered.

Deacon smirked, "She didn't tell you that we kissed last night, did she?"

"What?" Danny said, surprised.

"Yea," Deacon nodded, satisfied at being right, "See, if she's not telling you that, then there's obviously other things she could be hiding too."

"You guys kissed?" Danny said, still shocked.
"Yea," Deacon smiled.

"So what's this mean?" Danny asked, curiously.

"Well we didn't really talk about it," Deacon whispered, "She kind of darted off the same way she did that night at our dinner date. She mentioned something about kareoke night at the pub and just ran off."

"I'm telling you it's probably because she still has feelings for Fred," Danny said, "But I'm actually curious about what happened at the pub that night. I mean, none of us remember it too well but I know I didn't see much of you. I heard Renee got drunk. She doesn't like to talk about it."

"Well," Deacon started, "I don't exactly know what happened either."

"Well, I guess everything about that night will remain a mystery," Danny said not admitting that why he didn't remember what Deacon was doing was because he left early with Talia and spent the entire night in her dorm room.
"Isn't that dress a little short?" Priya said to Renee that night as they got ready for the dance in their room.

"It's Marta's," Renee answered referring to her teen aged sister, "I grabbed hers by mistake and I don't have any other formal dresses."

"Well, it's supposed to rain tonight," Priya said, "You're going to be cold."

"I'll be fine," Renee said, rolling her eyes.

"I think you look hot," Blaine commented.
"Blaine," Renee rolled her eyes at him, "You're not supposed to say that stuff about other girls infront of your girlfriend."

"Don't bother," Priya whispered, laughing, "We already had that talk and he just can't comprehend it."

"Doesn't it bug you though?" Renee asked her quietly.

"We're just having fun, Renee," Priya replied, "It's nothing serious. You don't really think I'd marry someone like him, do you?"

"No but does he understand that?" Renee questioned her.

Priya laughed, "Blaine doesn't understand much, but I think he at least gets that."
Renee relaxed on her bed while they waited for Danny to arrive.

She couldn't help but think of Fred again; of Fred and his journey to find the king's prized posession... the king's secret obession... that would lead him to his family's treasure. She thought of Able and his words of how the king wanted to rid the world of poverty and thieves. What posession could do that? Able had acted like the king was some great man but Renee knew the truth about how cruel he really was; how he ordered his knights to kill his only daughter and her husband because he was a thief. How could such a cruel man help rid the kingdom of poverty and thievery?...
"Oh, my God," Renee suddenly jumped up from her bed.

"What?" Priya exclaimed, startled.

"He didn't help those people," Renee thought out loud, "He killed them."

"Killed who?" Blaine said, confused as always.

"Poor people and thieves," Renee ran to the door and opened it just as Danny was about to knock, "He didn't rid the kingdom of them by helping them... he killed them! With his prized posession! The king's obsession was murder!"
"Renee, what are you talking about?" Priya said following her out into the hallway.

"Hey Danny," Renee said in a hurry, "Sorry but I'm going to be late to the dance. I have something I forgot to do. I'll meet you there."

"What are you going on about?" Danny said as Renee walked passed him.

"I think she was dreaming," Priya said, "She's talking about kings killing people and all sorts of rubbish."
"Renee, what is going on?" Danny followed her.

"Hey," Renee said as he caught up with her, "Where's Deacon?"

"Why?" Danny questioned, "Is this about what happened last night? I can't believe you didn't tell me-"

"What?" Renee said as they loaded into the elevator, "No. He told you about that? No that's not why at all. Just, where is he?"

"He's waiting in the car," Danny said, still completely perplexed about the situation.
"Deac, get out," Renee grabbed him by his suit jacket and pulled him out of the car, "I need you right now."

"Well sure, okay," Deacon smirked and joked playfully, "But here Renee? Really? You really want them watching?"

"Deac, I need you to come with me," Renee ignored his remarks and continued, "I need your help with something."

"With what?" Deacon asked.
"I'll explain when we get there," Renee said and then turned to the other three, "We'll meet you guys there, okay?

"But Deacon has to be there to play in the band," Danny said, not wanting to go without them.

"It's still early," Renee said, "We'll be there before dinner's over."

"No," Danny said, "I'm not going alone. Whatever you guys are doing, I'm coming too."

"Fine," Renee said, "Whatever."

"Hey," Deacon joked, "I don't really think there will be a place for Danny with what we're gonna do."
Renee led the two of them into one of the school's buildings. The halls were empty and quiet due to everyone being at the dance that evening.

"Hey, this is where we ran into that dude the other day," Deacon said, "What the hell are we doing here?"

"Remember when we got to the house at the island?" Renee said, "And you picked the locks to get us into the house?"

"Yea..." Deacon remembered.

"I need you to do that now," Renee said, "To this door."

"Renee!" Danny scolded, "Deac doesn't do that stuff anymore! He's done with his breaking and entering days!"
"Why?" Deacon asked, certainly curious.

"Because there's something I need behind it," Renee explained.

"Okay," Deacon said, "But I'm not doing it until you tell me what it is. And who that guy was."

"It's just something that guy had that belongs to a friend of mine," Renee replied, being careful of how much she said, "I think it's what he brought here to lock up the other day. I need it back."

"And you're going to steal it?!" Danny said, shocked and disapprovingly.

"Just tell me," Deacon said, "Are you dating this Able guy?"

"What?! No," Renee said forcefully, "I hate this guy!"

"Then I'm in," Deacon said and immediately went to work despite Danny's grumbling.
"This is such a bad idea," Danny sat down and took slow breaths, "If you get caught, do you know what will happen to you? You two will not only get expelled but you'll get arrested! How do you even know if you're going to be able to get it once we get in there?"

"Danny," Renee said, "I wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't important. I've been in this office before. I've seen where they keep their research stuff."

"Got it," Deacon said as the lock clicked open beneath his fingers, "We're in."

"That was fast," Renee pushed passed him and entered the historical research office.
She sat down at the nearest computer and booted it up.

"Renee," Danny said, worried, "What are you doing? Just grab whatever you're looking for and let's get out of here!"

"I have to look for the security code to the storage area," she said as the computer loaded, "And I just want to check something in the school's faculty files while I'm here"

Danny groaned, "This is sooo illegal."
"Able Cobert?" Deacon said as he watched her type the name in the search box, "So we're digging up some dirt on this old loon?"

"Yea," Renee said. She clicked on a document and quickly read through it, "Oh... my.. God..."

"What is it?" Deacon asked.

"No time to explain," Renee said as she hit the print button on the document that she pulled up, "Deac, can you break passed the security code on the storage gate and Danny, can you look through those shelves for Able's package?"

"Yea!" Deacon said excitedly at the same time Danny cried, "No!"
"Come on, Dan," Renee pleaded, "I need your help!"

"No way," Danny replied as Deacon started pushing buttons on the gate, "I'm not touching anything. You two aren't going to take me down with you!"

"What are we looking for?" Deacon asked her after he quickly broke into the storage area.

"It's a dagger," Renee said, "With a lion crest on the handle." The same dagger that she had seen on Able's desk the night Fred and she visited him. The same one that he was quick to hide.

"A weapon?!" Danny cried, "What is going on here?!"

Renee grabbed the printed document from the machine and quickly booted down the computer. She folded the papers and handed them to Deacon, "Can you keep these safe in your suit pocket until I can get them from you?"

"Sure," Deacon smiled, happy to help her, as he took the parcels and placed them inside his jacket.
"You guys," Danny suddenly said in a worried voice, "You better hurry. I think I hear someone out in the hallway."

"Here it is!" Renee exclaimed as she finally found the package, "This is it!" and she ran out of the storage area.

"Lock it back up, Deacon," Danny said, hurried, "Let's get out of here fast!"

Deacon did as instructed while Renee peeked out into the hallway. "It's clear," she said and they followed her out, Deacon locking the door behind them.
"What's that for?" Deacon asked her, pointing to the package, "Whose is it?"

"I can't talk about it right now," Renee said, avoiding an explanation, "We just better get out of here."

Danny suddenly gasped. "Quick!" he yelled in a whisper, "Someone's coming! Hide it!"
Renee put her hands behind her, concealing the package behind her back.

"What's going on here?" a woman security guard questioned them as she approached in the distance.

"Hey there Carol," Deacon said, "Fancy meeting you here!"

"You know her?" Danny whispered, surprised.

"She was my probation officer in high school," Deacon quietly answered, "Don't worry. She digs me."

But Danny couldn't help but worry.
"Deacon Smith?" Carol said when she reached the group, "How have you been? What are you kids doing here?"

"I'm just dandy, Carol," Deacon said, smoothly, "We're going to the dance. I thought it was in this building but I guess I'm wrong. Do you know where it is? We don't want to be too late."

"Well, you can't walk there," Carol said, "It's too far and you'll never make it on time." She offered, "Come on, I'll drive you guys."

"Well aren't you just the sweetest?" Deacon said enthusiastically as he began to follow her down the hallway.

"Are you crazy?!" Danny harshly whispered, "We stole something, you git! And you're bumming a ride off of a cop?!"

"Relax, Danny," Deacon said quietly, "It's fine."
They arrived safely at the hall where the formal was being held. Deacon spent most of the ride chatting up the driver who didn't notice anything suspicious.

"Renee, you're freaking me out a bit," Danny's worried expression had not yet left him, "This all isn't like you. Are you going to explain what's going on?"

"I can't," Renee said, "I really appreciate your guys' help but I can't tell you anything yet. Deac, can you hang on to this package for me for a while? And can you both promise me that you won't mention this to anyone else?"

"Yea, of course," Deacon answered immediately.

"You do know that when this guy finds his little package missing, they're going to suspect us," Danny told them, "The cop saw us there."
"Where have you guys been?" Priya approached them out on the patio, "You've missed dinner and the band's starting to set up to play!"

"Renee forgot to turn in one of her assignments that was due by tonight," Deacon lied, "It was on a disk that I had so we had to print it out and go to the school to submit it."

"Typical Renee," Priya shook her head, "Well, you guys better come inside."
"Thanks, Deac," Renee said, "If something does happen that we're caught, I'll take the blame for it, all right? I don't want to get you in trouble."

"No problem," he replied, "It was kinda fun being your partner in crime." Deacon smiled, "But hey, you can do me a favor now," Deacon took Renee's hand in his own, "Save me a dance tonight, all right?"

"All right but Deac," Renee looked down at her feet, " I know we left everything a little weird last night. I'm sorry and we definitely need to talk about it." Renee looked at him and smiled, "I really appreciate you helping me tonight and I'll be happy to dance with you... but I don't want you to get the wrong id-"

"LET'S GO!" Priya yelled, reappearing to grab Renee's arm and drag her inside, "Deacon, they're waiting for you on stage!!"
When Renee and Danny reached their table, Blaine suddenly shouted, "Ooo! Punch!" as he jumped up from his chair and ran over to the drinks. Priya ignored him.

"What's up, Danny?" Priya asked him, "Is something wrong?"

Danny was staring at Renee suspiciously. "Nothing," Danny replied. He looked directly into Renee's eyes, "And if there was, I would tell you because that's what friends do. We've always told eachother everything. Like things about mysterious packages and kissing Deacons."

"What's going on?" Priya asked them, "What are you talking about?"
"Nothing. He's just being silly," Renee said and then quickly changed the subject. She just noticed Tatum walk in with a very attractive man and sit at a table near them. "Who is that guy Tatum's with?" she asked, "I've never seen him before."

"Woah!" Priya exclaimed, "For such an intolerable personality, she can sure procure some dates particularly pleasing to the eye."

Danny looked over at them and then started to laugh.

"What?" Renee inquired.

"That's her cousin, Grayor," Danny answered, still laughing, "She's already pissed off every guy on campus that she had to resort to bringing her cousin."
"At least TRY to act like we're dating," Tatum scolded her cousin.

"Tatum, this is just so weird," Grayor said quietly.

"Nobody even knows who you are," Tatum snorted, "See that tramp over there sitting with the blonde guy? That's the one we're after."

"What exactly are you after her for?" Grayor asked in confusion.
"For being such a priss," Tatum muttered angrily, "For ruining my life."

"I don't get you Tatum," Grayor just shrugged, "Just because she's here with your ex-fiance?"

"No. Because she makes me look like a complete fool," Tatum continued to roar, "She's made just about every guy reject me and that does not happen to me! So I need to dump you infront of everyone so they know I'm not the one who's supposed to get dumped!"

"Wait a minute, I thought I was just bringing you to a dance so you didn't have to come alone," Grayor stated, "I'm not going to go along with any of your crazy little schemes."
Tatum took a gulp of her water and suddenly slammed it angrily on the table. "Quit obsessing over me!" Tatum shouted loud enough for everyone to hear, "You can't be with me everywhere I go! Just let me go to the bathroom in peace."

"Tatum," Grayor whispered embarassed, "What are you doing? Everyone's staring."

"No, I will not move in with you," Tatum continued to yell, "I know that you said you're falling in love with me but you're just being too posessive!"

"Tatum..." Grayor tried to cut her off.

"Marry you?!" Tatum exclaimed, "How dare you insult me! Stop following me you stalker!"
With that, she threw the entire contents of her drinking glass all over Grayor's fancy suit.

"You are crazy," Grayor muttered as he stood up and stormed away to the bathroom.

"What can I say?" Tatum shrugged, smiling at the crowd staring at her, "He was just too obsessed with me." She cleared her throat, satisfied, as she stood up, brushed off her dress and strutted confidently onto the dance floor.
"Now that's pathetic," Priya laughed.

"She thinks we don't know that was her cousin," Danny chortled, "Joke's on her."

The band members introduced themselves with witty little comments and then began to perform their first song of the night. People started filling up the dance floor.

Renee thought she was in the clear of Danny's interogation since he had been chuckling about Tatum's odd scene. But then Danny looked at her seriously.

"Renee," Danny said, obviously wanting to talk to her alone, "Would you dance with me please? Maybe we can talk a bit."
"Would you please stop staring at him?" Cyd directed at Talia and Melissa who were subconciously gawking over at Danny's table.

"I'm not staring at Danny," Melissa exclaimed.

"Well it's obvious now that you actually are staring at Danny because I didn't even say who I was talking about," Cyd sighed.
"Who is that girl Danny came with?" Melissa asked suspiciously. Cyd just rolled his eyes at being ignored.

"Her name's Renee," Talia answered, "She was at the island with us.

"Are they dating now or something?" Melissa questioned trying to sound casual.

"No way," Talia answered in a testy tone. "Well, I guess they used to," she said responding to their inquiring looks, "But they're just friends."

"Yea right," Cyd chimed in, "You can tell by looking at them that it's way more than that."
"No it's not!" Talia and Melissa both shouted at the same time.

"Woah, chill out!" Cyd said in surprise, "Why do you guys care so much about what Danny's doing anyway?"

"I don't," Melissa said. She paused and then started again, "So how did they decide to come together? Did he ask her?"

"I guess," Talia said trying not to let them on to how much she really knew, "Her boyfriend moved away or something and he thought it would be nice to take her."
"Melissa," Cyd said smiling, suddenly taking her hand, "There's been something I've been wanting to talk to you about."

"Yea?" Melissa smiled back at him.

"WHAT?!" Talia suddenly blurted as she gazed out at the dance floor.

"What?" Melissa turned to her in shock, "What's wrong?"
"Oh, uh, nothing," Talia stuttered, trying to regain her composure.

Melissa followed Talia's gaze out to the dance floor noticing Danny and Renee and exclaimed, "Not dating my ass. They're all over eachother."

Cyd laughed. "Just being nice, eh?" he said, "Looks like someone's getting lucky tonight."

"Come on, you guys," Talia said trying to hold back her slightly angry tone, "Let's forget about them and just go dance."
They all danced as the band played the night away.

Talia kept a close eye on Danny who she couldn't help but notice was dancing the entire time so closely with Renee. What Talia didn't know was that he was really hounding Renee with questions the entire time that she just refused to answer.

Talia was trying not to be, but everything within her was furious at him for being there with Renee instead of her. She knew they couldn't have gone together but she wished he had gone stag like she did. She waited until Renee had gone over to sit with Priya and Blaine to finally confront him. They went outside to talk.
Deacon was playing well that night. All he had on his mind was his one dance with Renee. The hope that there was still a chance for them to be together kept him going.

Renee's mind was far from where Deacon's was. She was so focused on thinking about the king's posession and how she would get it to Fred that she kept spacing out while Priya was talking to her.
When the band began to play a set that Deacon didn't drum for, he hopped off the stage and made his way over to where Blaine, Priya and Renee were sitting.

"Hey babe, can I have my dance now?" he asked as he approached Renee. She had almost forgot she had agreed to one.

She looked at Priya who nodded her on, appearing to want to spend some time alone with Blaine.
Deacon took her hands and lead her out to the dance floor. They started dancing to the fast-paced tune the band was playing.

"You look really great tonight," Deacon complimented her, "Like... woah."

"Thanks," Renee smiled. Deacon started busting out some crazy moves and people began forming a circle around the two of them. It was a rush for Renee to finally be having some fun instead of sulking about Fred all of the time.
When the song ended, Roman began to sing one of his ballads. Deacon pulled Renee close, ignoring that she had only promised him one dance. Tired from dancing so vigorously, she rested her head on his shoulder as the band played on. He pushed his body up against hers so there was no space between them and as his hands slid down from her waist, she began to panic. 'This is too close,' she thought, 'I can't let this happen again'.

"Deacon Smith!" a voice suddenly yelled, breaking them apart.
"Oh, uh," Deacon turned around to face a tall, thin blonde girl that was yelling in his face. Renee recognized her as the same girl she had seen Deacon getting cozy with in the common room a few weeks ago. "Hi Michelle," Deacon said a bit timidly.

"Where have you been?" she shouted, "You kept saying you'd call me and you never did! And now I see you dancing with this girl? You said there was no one else! After the night we had together, how could you do this to me? I thought you liked me!"

"Uh, I better go," Renee said, feeling awkward.

"No, Renee, wait," Deacon said as she started to walk away, "I can explain!"

Renee turned around to look at him but the blonde girl starting shouting again, so Renee just mumbled, "See you later," and walked away.
"Melissa," Cyd said lovingly as they sat alone at the table, "I've been wanting to tell you how much I really care about you and-"

"Where did Talia go?" Melissa asked while scoping the dance floor, once again ignoring Cyd. She didn't say it, but she also noticed that Danny was missing too.

"Mel," Cyd sighed, "I'm trying to say something serious here."

"Well, what is it?" she snapped at him.
"You know what?" Cyd yelled angrily, "Forget it!"

He stood up and threw his napkin down on the table.

"I was going to ask you if you wanted to spend the night with me," he shouted, "But clearly, now that your precious Daniel is single again, you'd rather be with him!" Cyd started to walk away then turned around and screamed, "Consider your wish granted! I'm out of your life now, Melissa! For good!"

And with that, he stormed away, leaving her alone.
Melissa was shocked but she certainly didn't seem as upset as she should have. She stood up and walked around the dance floor looking for Talia... but more so, for Danny. 'Where is he?' she thought. She walked outside thinking that he may have been out on the patio, but he was nowhere to be seen. Oh what she would have discovered if she had only looked a little harder. The formal was coming to an end and after the band played their last song, they went to join Priya and Blaine at their table.

"Great job, you guys," Priya complimented the band, "You really made this evening fun."

"Thanks, Priya," Roman said proudly.

"Where's Renee?" Deacon immediately asked noting her absense.

"I saw her go back in the bathroom a little while ago," Priya shrugged, "She said she wanted to be alone."
"I think she's mad at me," Deacon frowned, "I really have to explain something to her."

"Deac, I've warned you a million times and I'll warn you a million more," Roman said half playful, half daunting, "Don't mess with my sister."

"Trust me, I'm not messing," Deacon said, "It's much more than that."

"Okay, lover boy," Roman punched him in the shoulder, "You can go find her after we play our last two songs."
"I don't play the last one, remember?" Deacon reminded him, "It's the one I wrote."

"You write songs?" Priya asked, a little surprised.

"Well, I don't a lot really. I just got inspired," Deacon said, "But I'd really like to find Renee to dance with for that song so if you see her, tell her."

"He's in looove," Roman teased.

"Shut up," Deac said, "Let's just go play."
Tatum had been listening to their conversation and when the band went to take the stage for the final time that night, she approached the table.

"Did I hear that guy say he was Renee's brother?" Tatum asked.

"Yea," Blaine immediately answered, "They're identicals."
"Don't tell her that," Priya whispered fiercly, smacking his leg. She paused and couldn't help but correct him, "And they're not identical. They're fraternal twins... they're not the same sex."

"Well I certainly hope they're not having sex," Blaine snorted, "That would be gross."

"Nevermind," Priya rolled her eyes.

Tatum flashed them a michevious grin and strutted away.
Renee walked outside unnoticed. The loud music erupting from the hall was quickly quieted as the door shut behind her. It was cold and she soon discovered that Priya was right about her choice of dress. The night was silent except for the chirping of crickets and the trickle of the water from one of the grand fountains on the large patio. Renee walked over and took in the calming sound as the water fell. Memories rushed back to her of a certain evening by a waterfall in a serene cave... Fred has just saved her life. She found herself wishing she were in that moment once more. It slowly began to rain. She was alone outside in the cold, wet down-pour and another memory rushed back to her that she wished had never happened... the memory of the night that Fred left. She hadn't heard as the sound of footsteps quietly approaching her. She was so lost in thought that she almost didn't see the man standing just a few feet away. When she suddenly noticed out of the corner of her eye that he was just standing there, watching her, she slowly turned to him and let out a gasp. For just a second there in the dark, she didn't recognize him. But when she realized who it was, she froze.

"No," she said aloud in a whisper, "It can't be."

But it was.

He was dressed in a slick black suit. He somehow looked older, taller, more handsome... just... different. But she knew it was him.

Fred had come back.
He didn't say anything; just stood there.

Renee was unsure what to do. She had not seen him for over a month. She didn't know where he had been, what he had been doing and most importantly in her mind, if he still felt the same way about her. She slowly approached him and stopped when they were face to face.
He quietly held her hand and slowly pulled it up to his lips. He kissed it gently and as he then slid her hand down his chest and over his heart, a smile slowly spread across his face.

"Sorry I'm late," he said.
Renee suddenly embraced him and captured his lips. He held her like he would never let her go again.

She didn't want to break away from him... ever. As she pulled her mouth away for seconds at a time to speak, he only pulled her closer. "I've been so worried...," she stuttered as tears began to fall, "I didn't know if I would ever see you again... Look at you! Where have you been?... What happened?... I have something... so important!" But Fred just kept kissing her like he never had before and she finally gave in and fell silent, just happy to be in his arms.
"Oh Fred," Renee hugged him and he picked her up and held her lovingly in arms.

This is what she had been waiting for.

"Why have you come back?" Renee whispered in his ear.

"I need you," he said and Renee's heart jumped at his words.
She suddenly jumped down and sternly stared at him, "Why did you lie about when you were going to leave? Why didn't you say goodbye?"

"I just couldn't do it," Fred said, "You made me not want to go and I knew that I had to." He paused and was glad to see her lightened expression. "But I realised I can't do this alone. I have a lot to tell you," Fred said, "But I'll tell you about it later tonight in private... if you'll come to my apartment with me, that is."

"I have something to tell you too," Renee wanted to tell him about the dagger that she had just taken from Able, "I think I've found-"

"Wait," Fred said, "Before you say anything else, there's a promise that I need to make sure is kept."

"Oh, uh," Renee stuttered, feeling utterly uncomfortable. She knew he would probably be upset about what had happened between her and Deacon over the past few weeks. She hadn't expected Fred to come back and so hadn't prepared how to tell him. What should she say? "A promise?" Renee mumbled, trying to stall.
"Yea," Fred took her hand in his and put his arm around her waist. "Why are you acting so nervous?" he said, "I promised you a dance, remember?"

"Oh," Renee let out a breath, relaxing, "Of course."
Renee could faintly hear an upbeat song still playing from inside. But it didn't affect their motion. They slowly swayed together, silently gazing in eachother's eyes, stealing kisses every few seconds.

She didn't even notice when the drumming stopped and the band began to sing a ballad.
"Renee?" Deacon said as he strolled out onto the patio... but she didn't hear him. He gasped.

And he could swear he felt his heart snap in two as he watch the two of them so closely dancing to the song... the song he wrote for her.
Nobody saw what else was going on that very night in the shadow of a large colum, in a secluded corner of the grand hall. Thanks for reading!

You have a great talent, and as you can see from all your other comments, you've made the characters believeable, likeable, and maybe in Tatum's case hateable LOL. Great work.

Great part - but I am just annoyed that Fred is back so early... mainly because I don't like him, but also because Renee doesn't deserve him; she would go with anyone as long as it meant that she wasn't alone. Talia was snogging Renee's brother, wasn't she? Haha. Good. I am sick of every character in this story - apart from Deacon. Danny is obviously in love with Renee too, he just HAD to follow her and Deacon for their little mission - although I did love that part! Ugh, I don't know what to say except from poor Deacon who is in love with Renee and writes songs for her and she just ignores him because of stupid Fred who needs to take the Kings weapon and stick it in himself! Sorry I just don't like Fred! I'm glad it was so long and had a lot of twists - but you could have done without the "Fred" twist. I gave you a five because you deserve it! \:D

We're both photographers and we're going to put ideas together and play. Which is good for me, because she has more experience than I do, so I can learn from her. Fred! I had a feeling he'd be back. I bet he said that he needs her because he realized that she's the one he trusts most, right? ;D And I really don't know whether to trust Able or not. He obviously knows who Fred is (he probably recognized him from research of his family or something), but I don't know if he wants to help or hurt him. He probably has something planned, because he most likely knew that Renee would try to steal the dagger (and Deacon better give it back without making a scene!). Hmm, I'm getting a feeling that Able might actually try to follow the group, he probably wants some of the credit if they find anything. And Tatum just makes me want to puke! Going after Roman!? She's just going to cause such a big fuss later on. I can already feel it. And why did Fred cut his hair? Is he trying to look different so that someone doesn't recognize him? Hmmmm. Anyways, yet another great part! And I'm glad that you got your computer fixed! \:D

Another EXCELLENT story!!! I love this story. I may sound wierd, but for some reason, I want Renee to be with Deacon. I don't know why. I just think they suit each other better than she and Fred. Fred seems like such a good guy and Renee seems to take whoever she can get. I just think, honestly, that Fred is too good for her. I wouldn't also mind her getting together with Danny, but he and Talia have such chemistry. I felt so bad for Deacon when he wrote that song for Renee and he caught her dancing with Fred while the song that he wrote just for her was playing. I really liked the part when they were stealing the package~very sneaky! \;\) Thank you so much for posting these stories. They never get old and you are a truly amazing writer. How you have the patiance to sit down and write all of that is beyond me. Omg! so for the past day i have been reading your chapters and I say amazing! I honestly would recomend writing a book for young adult. There is sooo much to it! Renee's love triangle situation is similar to another book I read but the other book the chick doesnt actually get with the "Deacon". I love all the characters except Tatum she kinda pisses me off a little. I can wait till you get part 10 out. I spent soo much time at work reading your stories. I really wish Danny and talia would just open up about their relationship, melissa is her friend and should be supportive, pissed at first, but supportive. Well keep writing I cant wait to see what happens next. Seriously Think about turning this into a book. I would so buy it.
