Welcome to yet another one of my stories. This is a dedication and a reminder to those who have forgotten the marvel of Wuthering Heights and Emily Bronte. A fancy gentleman by the name of Lockwood arrived at my master's house early last night, he was apparently the master's new tenant at Thrushcross Grange. I welcomed him in and offered him a seat so that he might wait for my master's returning. As he entered the compelling household. shadows danced across the walls as the fire burned brightly in the grate. He spied atop the fireplace a massive portrait, I could see he was mesmerised by the beauty of it. And I went to fetch the master, while he took a seat. My master entered boldly and kept his distance from our visitor as he always did. Not that we ever got many visitors. He was deeply offended by this surprise trespass in his home, he kept his steely countenance as he asked: "Who are you?"
Lockwood: "Mr. Heathcliff?" My master barely acknowledged his name. "Mr. Lockwood sir, your new tenant up at the Grange."
Heathcliff: "Strange that you would pick a storm to be wandering about in Mr. Lockwood"
Lockwood: "I lost my way out on the moor, is the Grange far? Could I get a guide to take me back?"
Heathcliff: "No you may not."
Hareton entered suddenly realising we had a guest and overhearing the prior conversation offered to take the stranger as far as the Gimmerton Church to which my master coldly replied
Heathcliff: "You'll go with him to hell!"
Lockwood: "But Mt. Heathcliff, if I do not have a guide to take me back, then I shall have to stay here the night..."
Heathcliff: "I don't keep accomodation for strangers... I will not permit anyone to have the range of the place while I am off-guard." Our guest was deeply offended by this I could tell. And he slumped into a chair and sulked.
Lockwood: "I'll sleep in a chair then! That way someone can keep an eye on me" he said pointedly and matter-of-factly. But nobody was listening to his ramblings, they had goine to get their supper. That was when he spied her, she was a natural beauty with blonde hair and blue eyes, she held herself with a silent resignation as was expected of women. She was just sat there watching him.
Lockwood: "Hello?" She rose from her seat and almost floated towards the fireplace.
She took a key hooked to a small shelf on the mantle and beckoned me to follow her as she made her way upstairs.
Catherine: "There's a room they don't use... come on." Lockwood obediently followed her.
Catherine led him to an old room, containing nothing but a wooden cabinet. She handed him a candle
Catherine: "Don't leave it by the window..."
Lockwood: "Why?" There was no reply, she had already left swiftly and silently down the hall.
The cabinet was made of a strong oak, and resembled a carriage. Lockwood was apparently drawn to it and found himself exploring the contents. It seemed to be an old-fashioned couch, conveniently designed to remove the necessity of every member of the household having a room to themself. He patted the pillow letting fly years of dust, as he looked on the window ledge appeared some carvings, he cleared the dust so he could read it.l It was name carvings: 'Catherine heathcliff, Catherine Linton, Catherine Earnshaw'. Lockwood read these name's over and over again, and eventually his eyelids began to droop and he fell asleep. Only to be woken again by vivid dreams of the many Catherine's, the candle wax was almost spent, Lockwood quickly snuffed out the light... The sound of smashing glass awoke him to his surroundings, as the storm was raging overhead it had forced to tree branches to come crashing through the window. As Lockwood levered the branches back out the window, he felt something grasp his forearms. He pulled his arms back in to find two hands holding onto him then a voice
"Let me in, Let me in!"
Lockwood: "Who are you?"
"My name is Catherine Linton and I have been wandering these moors for twenty years trying to find my way home. Let me in!
Lockwood: "Let me go and I will let you in." After his continuous struggling he managed to break free from her grasp, as he pulled away he yelled in fear.
Heathcliff awoken by the yell hurried to see what the commotion was all about.
Heathcliff: "Who the devil put you in there?"
Lockwood: "The girl... but that's not important, you think it's funny having ghosts roam around this place? I do not Mr. Heathcliff! Some Catherine Linton, something or other has just been at the window begging me to let her in! I..." Seeing the look on his landlords face, he stopped mid-sentence. "Mr. Heathcliff?"
Heathcliff: "Go and wait in the parlour, my servants are already up, it will be morning soon, I will allow a guide to take you as far as Gimmerton church when it is light out."
Lockwood: "Thankyou sir..."
Heathcliff: "Leave me be," he started towards the door and waited till Lockwoods footsteps had died down before entering.
When he arrived in the parlour the inhabitants were indeed already awake and doing odd jobs around, setting the place up for the day.
Lockwood: "Mrs. heathcliff?"
Catherine: "Yes? I am busy you realise?"
Lockwood: "Yes, terribly sorry, but are you married to Mr. Heathcliff?"
Catherine: "Definitely not! He is my father-in-law. Anything else?"
Lockwood: "Did you know that I would be visited by a ghost if I left the candle in the window?"
Catherine: "Of course I didn't I have only lived here two years, i know very little about the place. but strange and mysterious things happen here, I don't beg to ask questions. I don't want to find out the truth."
I arrived back at my place of residence, Thrushcross Grange, late that morning, after getting lost about a hundred times after my guide had left me at the church. I immediately called up the housemaid and began asking her questions about the residents at Wuthering Heights.
Ellen: "It is a long and tragic story, full of love and passion, but as you are unwell from your travels from the Heights it seems we have a lot of time on our hands" She began to tell me the story from the very beginning when Heathcliff first arrived...
Thankyou for reading the prologue to my rendition of Wuthering Heights. I do hope you'll look out for the next part and continue to bear with me on this amazing novel by Emily Bronte. I am trying to edit it so that it is suitable for our audiences and would appreciate any feedback. Especially from those who already know and love Wuthering Heights like me. The first volume will not be out for a while though as I have a few stories to publish before it and the time it is going to take me to write.

this is interesting. I love Charlotte Bronte because Jane Eyre is absolutely amazing, and now I'm kind of thinking her sisters might be good too. not really into ghost stories but these old books are kind of kooky, not scary.

anyway i like your story and i think your idea to do it based on a classic novel written by a feminist woman writer is amazing. very admirable and refreshing.

i rated it a 4.5/5 instead of 5 only because i think it's a little bit choppy.. i am left feeling like there are big holes where stuff was left out that if it was there, would make the story better.

I had stalled to read this one for awhile because there was one slide, number 4, where I could not tell who was talking to who, and who was who, I don't know if it was me or what. No one else seemed to have that problem.I think my problem was that you have the story in first person but when Lockwood spoke you had it written as: Lockwood: "dialogue". I didn't know who Lockwood was and I didn't Heathcliff was the master. I was so confused but I figured it out. \:wub\: erin
