Theres a file in the C:\Documents and Settings\Scooby\My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2 folder called Groups.cache and Accessory.cache, Everytime the game fails to load I delete both of these files,restart the game and its been working everytime... bit of a pain but until there's a patch I guess it will have to do. I got this advice from a post by Cadiva at the TSR forums.

In the settings menu mae sure that Neighbours is set to On (this shows up your other lots) and Decorations are set to On (this shows up all the decorative buildings, i.e. Tower Blocks). Now when your sims look out of windows or are outside they will be surrounded by buildings, . Having these on can slow down the game, depending on the processing power of your PC .
