Penny Dollar moved to SimCity hoping to become a succesful business manager.
People were impressed by the huge iniciative in such a young girl. But what they didn't know was that Penny didn't do it for the 'honour', and neither did she do it for the money; she did it for a bet she had with her friend, Chad. He had set her the challenge of making a home business and learning all the skills they knew about to an acceptable level on her own.
But of course, 'on her own' meant that no one would be able to help her in any way, which forbidded her to have a romantic life during her bet.

But of course, 'on her own' meant that no one would be able to help her in any way, which forbidded her to have a romantic life during her bet. 'This will be great fun.. I'll have a great time here' thought Penny as she saw her new house.
She wasn't wrong at all.. but sometimes, we just can't see how fun something was until we think back and remember that moment... She prepared a whole schedule. One day, during the evening, she prepared different things to sell, and, at the other day, by the morning and afternoon, she sold everything. She hardly slept at all, and had no days off, but she was ok with it. But one day, something took her out of her schedule and swept her off her feet. Or should I say 'someone'. That day, she saw Robbert Smith buying in her shop. She forgot about the rest of her customers and went directly to talk to him. He bought a lot of things from her little shop, and they became friends rather fastly. So she called Chad and saw what he'd think about this.
'Chad!' she said desperated 'I have this huge crush on a guy I met in my store! At first I thought it was something stupid, but it's been days since I first saw him and I can't get him out of my head! I've tried all I could think of, but I still dream about him at nights. And I didn't even dreamed at all until I knew him!'
'Ok, ok, slow down, it's not the end of the world. I told you went we set up the challenge that you must do it on your own.... can't you just wait to finish the bet and then hit on him?' answered Chad simply 'It's just not an option. I mean, I tried to, but he just drive's me crazy. No, I need to either get him or get him off my head, and non of those options would work for me', she replied.
'Well.. if you say so.. let's see.. have you tried to work and replace him by completing the bet? You know, getting yourself busy...' 'Yes, but it didn't work. It doesn't matter how much tired I might be, I just keep thinking of him...' 'And have you tried meeting other people in downtown?' asked Chad
'Yes. But it didn't work. The pretty guys wouldn't pay me attention and the ones who did are total freaks. But real freaks! No, I'm not good at meeting people.' 'How about blind dates? One of your girl-friends can introduce you to a nice guy. You go out on a date with him and forget about everything'
'I tried to, but he didn't show up. I stood in a restaurant completely alone for half an hour!' answered Penny irritated 'Mmm.. that really sucks. Ok, then, just try to stay away from him, and keep yourself busy for a while.' said Chad finally
'That's your advice? I could've sorted that out on my own.' replied Penny rudely
'Just do as I say. I'll research about your guy and find something that will make him unatractive to you. Just remember, if I find out you've done something with him, you'll loose the bet.'
'I know, I know... but invesitgate fast! I just can't hold it any longer. Ok, bye' And so, Penny distracted herself with her home business. She learned a bit about toy making, robot making, restocking and some other stuff. She hardly remembered Robbert at all now. It was working!
Until... .. he called her, while she was doing the gardening.
'Hi, Penny?'his voice said 'how are you? It's been such a long time since we last spoke. I just wanted to check if you're ok. I mean, I don't want to loose contact, because you're a great girl...'
And so he went on and on. Robbert's voice that came through the tube sounded like a magnificent melody to Penny's ears.... she was in a dream 'So, I was just wondering if you'd like to go downtown with me tonight' he said all of a sudden
'You mean like ina DATE?' said Peny quickly. The words had just slept through her lips. She soon wished she hadn't said anything, because Robbert's silence was quite obvious.
'Wow... I see you know where I'm going... what a relieve, I was afraid it'd might take too long for me to say it. Are you sure you want this?' he said a bit shily
'Of course I do!!! Pick me up at eight o'clock!' she answered, forgetting completely about the bet And so the date was in an expensive restaurant.
First, they danced next to the firelight And things got a bit warm there... Penny had this guy exactly where she wanted him... or maybe he had Penny? The romantic dancing found its end and was followed by a fancy dinner. Robbert was talking, but Penny wasn't really there. She just couldn't believe how lucky she was. 'This has been the most perfect evening I've ever had the luck to live' almost whispered Robbert. His voice could be very seductive in spite of his shy appeal. 'I'm very glad you agreed to come. I thought it would cost me much more to convince you.'
'Not at all' told him Penny in a romantic voice 'I'd follow you to the end of the world, Rob. I think you know I would.' 'That's great... I love to hear you say so. Anyway.. I was thinking if maybe, you'd mind to show me your place after dinner...' he said in a sexy voice Peny was surprised to hear these words. She suddenly remembered what Chad had told her some nights ago..
'But, he said don't let me *find out* you've done something' she said to herself 'so, if he doesn't *find out*, then I wouldn't do anything wrong...'
'Yes! I'd love to!' she replied finally, knowing quite well what she was getting into, and thinking 'the heck with Chad!' When Robbert and Penny came into her flat, the phone rang. Penny picked it up and heard with fright Chad's voice. She needed some time to calm down and convince herself that he could not see through the phone. When she had finally relaxed, she could hear Chad's voice:
'Is everything alright? Are you on your own?'
'Of course' she lied
'Great. Listen, I've finished my research about your enigmatic guy and I've found a couple of stuff...' But Penny didn't want to listen to him, so she had to improvise
'What? I can't hear you! Chad? I can't hear you!! Call me tomorrow, the line's probably messed up!' And she hung up the phone
'Who was it?' asked curiously Robbert
'Chad, a friend of mine. I'll call him back tomorrow, it's nothing urgent'
'Oh' said Robbert. Penny couldn't help to notice a bit of relieve in his voice, but she didn't ask anything else Why had she hung up the phone and not listened to Chad, she didn't know. She just didn't want him to spoil her special night.
Besides, she felt and odd kind of security she had never felt before as she sensed Robbert's steps getting him closer to her. They started making out in Penny's sofa. Robbert kept telling her romantic things to her ears, until she finally heard, very low and quietly, three sweet and perfect words that came out from Robbert's lips: 'I love you'
And that was just enough. Penny and Robbert spent a lovely night together. But at the next morning, the doorbell woke them up. Penny went to the door, but she was so excited about everything that had happened that she didn't really noticed she was still in her underwear. She opened the door without even asking who it was It was Chad. 'Hi, Penny, what took yo- Oh my God!! What the hell are you doing half-naked?!'
'Oh!! I forgot. I'm so asleep. You woke me up, I don't know how I even managed to open up the door!' invented Penny
'But why did you sleep in your underwear?' asked Chad. He didn't believe her
'I was hot. I needed to refresh a bit, you know?' lied Penny
'Aha..' 'Listen, I might not be smart, but I'm not stupid. You've obviously got a man *hidden* somewhere, and I think I just may know who it is..'
'No, Chad, it's not what you think!'
Chad went directly to Penny's bedroom And he went in, but for both character's surprise... The room was empty!! There was nothing, except a messy bed and an open window. 'He escaped by the window' Penny thought. 'That's bright!'
But then, another question came to her head. If she hadn't told him anything about the bet, why did he escape from her house?... Penny drove that question to the back of her head. She had to give the best gig of her life now, and she needn't to be distracted by foolish suspicions
'See?' she said 'I dunno why you don't trust me at all!' 'I'm sorry.. but when we're in loved, we sometimes do stuff we regret about.. and become people so different from ourselves' apologised Chad, and gave her a big hug, proud because of her friend beating the temptation. 'Anyway, I should tell you why I droped by in the first place, shouldn't I?' he went on
'Spit it' said simply Penny
'Well it's about my research. As you couldn't use the phone yesterday evening, I decided to let you know personally... I've got something huge..' 'Tell me! C'mon!' said Penny. She didn't really want to know, but she had no other choice.
'He's married!!!' shouted Chad happily
Penny felt something breaking inside her, but still managed to pull out a convincing smile. 'You.. you have to be kidding me!' she denied
'It's surprising isn't it? What an idiot.. he still tried to hit on you... he didn't even deserve you in the first place'
'No, you don't understand.. it is NOT TRUE!' yelled Penny, completely out of herself
That's why he had escaped... it all made sense... that's why he was so surprised she still wanted to go out with him. Had she been so deaf she couldn't hear him? Maybe she didn't because she didn't want to hear it? Had he even told her that? 'I'm telling you the truth. Her wife's name's Loreto, and they have a daughter. It's not even a secret.. they've been married for almost 20 years..' Chad carried on
20 years! So had it been her fault? And what was people going to say about this? She had been the "bad girl".. but she didn't even knew.
But one thing was sure: if they had been together for 20 years, he'd never leave her.. not just because of another girl... 'NOO!! It can't be truee!' cried Penny. She could not act any longer. Her heart was broken and her knees couldn't support her no more 'I love him! Why? Why didn't he tell me? Why didn't he stop me? He told me he loved me!! ME and only me! 'But he didn't mean it. This wasn't the first time he said it. And it wasn't the second and neither the last. It was just one more time!' these words relieved her shoulders, but filled her eyes with tears 'It was special to me. HE was special to me. But I was only "just one more"!' 'HOLD IT!' shouted Chad. His face was tense and not friendly at all. 'You mean, you had something with him?' 'No! I mean... I loved him.. that's it... I mean' but she couldn't pull up a sentence. And even if she could have, no sentence would have been able to fix the harm she had done
'Oh, do you really expect me to believe you? You fooled me! You really did! I think I didn't exactly know you!' 'And why do YOU make all the fuzz here? Am I or am I not the heart-broken one here? You don't have no right at all to yell at me, Chad!' 'Do you want to know who the broken-hearted is here, Penny? IT'S ME!
Honestly! Couldn't you see how in loved I am with you? I've called you every single day since you arrived, I've bought you a house, and all I asked in return was for you to realize my feelings. I mean, I told you clearly not to do anything with this guy! At least, if you didn't see through me, you could have waited for me, just to thank me for everything I had done for you, but you just can't say no, can you?' finished Chad. His expresion was scary, he was worse than mad; he was more than heart-broken: he was bleeding inside.
'You - you love me?' asked Penny, confused but Chad didn't answer. He just couldn't stand being in that room no longer. So he muttered a low 'goodbye' and left, leaving Penny there, alone, feeling stupid, lonely, fooled and crying her lumbs out. The next few weeks, Penny distracted herself with her job. But she wasn't too focused. She was still confused by Chad's confession, and Robbert's cheat... she hadn't heard anything from Robbert no more. And she was glad to. She didn't want to have anything to do with him ever again But, as I said earlier, she was unfocused, and that reflected in the results of her work. Her robots came out all broken, her hairstyles were awful and she spent most of her nights crying in her room. So she finally decided to call Chad.
Unfortunately, he didn't answer, so she left him a message in the machine
'Hey, Chad... I've been thinking a lot recently... and... and I think we should talk... you know... and sort everything out. Just - just drop by whenever you want, ok? Bye' So she invited him over to her place. She didn't believe he would come in the first place, so she waws really surprised to see him in her store.
'Hi... hi Chad' she said shily 'How have you been doing? Fine? I'm glad to hear so... so.. listen.. I called you because... because I have a surprise for you.'
'Really', said Chad. His voice wasn't friendly, but still, Penny went on.. 'Umm.. yeah... listen, I don't know if - if what you said the other night was true... or if you still feel it... but I have to let this out anyway'. She took a deep breath and spoke again 'I - I think I'm in loved with you too, Chad'
Chad's expression softened up. Penny pulled up a smile and he said
'Woww... really? Are you sure? Will you be true to me?' And so, Penny bent her knees and answered
'Yes, I swear. Listen, I've been thinking a lot this last days, and I realized there's no one better for me than you... and there's no one else I want beside me than you'
'I feel the same way, Penny' he said beaming
'Then, I guess you don't mind if I - if I ask you to marry me' Chad lookes startled, but he still agreed to.
Penny was so happy and excited that she threw herself into his arms. Then, he let her down, looked at her arms, and gave her the biggest of the kisses.
They were both so happy.
All the people in the store, that had been listening carefully from the beggining, exploded in a huge applause and many cheers. And so, Penny became jack of all trades... and master of love.
