Thanks to all my readers and all the custom content creators! "So is today the day you are going to meet with Brooke?" Erin asked one morning at breakfast. "I wonder what she wants to tell you? Do you think she is still with Basil?" "Yeah, today's the day. I have class until 11:00, then Brooke is going to come over here for lunch." Callie answered. "I am not really looking forward to seeing her. I figured if she came here, I would have 'homefield advantage' and maybe feel more confident. I'm not mad at her anymore, but I just don't see the point in us pretending we are best friends again."
It had been three months since Callie had received the emails from Brooke, Basil, and Drew. Brooke and Callie had tried several times to meet, but their schedules were difficult to work around. Not to mention the fact that Callie didn't want to see Brooke. "What does Drew think about all this?" Olivia teased. "Chris told me you two have been emailing back and forth a lot and talking on the phone. Does he know about Brooke and Basil?" "Yes, Drew knows about Brooke and Basil." Callie answered with a longsuffering sigh. "Drew is awesome. He is so encouraging and supportive. I have really enjoyed getting to know him. He is truly a wonderful guy. He listens to my crazy stories and seems interested in everything about my life. It's so cool to find a guy who wants to be your friend first, and not just interested in you physically. You know? Drew is so different then Basil and the other guys I have dated in the past." Callie and Drew had been emailing each other frequently over the past three months and had begun talking on the phone the last few weeks. Callie had decided not to respond to Basil's email. She wanted to move on and didn't think he deserved a reply.
"Ok girls, I better head to class. Maybe if you are around at lunch time, you can have the pleasure of meeting Brooke." Callie said dryly as she grabbed her books and started for the front door. "See you later!" "Wow Brooke! You look different!" Callie exclaimed later that afternoon as she greeted Brooke at the door. "Did you get a haircut? Maybe your makeup is different? Well, I guess it has been a while since we have seen each other." Callie realized she was rambling nervously so she calmed herself down and tried a more normal approach to conversation. "Why don't we go sit in the living room so we can talk, or would you rather eat first?"
"Actually, I can't stay for lunch." Brooke answered. "I need to meet with my advisor in an hour. I probably should have cancelled our lunch, but we have tried for so long to get together and I really have some things to tell you. Do you mind if we just sit down?" The girls got settled on the couch and Brooke began to explain the reason for her visit. " I guess I should start by telling you Basil and I dated for several months after you left the dorm. I really fell in love with him if you can believe that." Brooke began explaining. "He broke up with me about four months ago, a few weeks before I sent the email asking to meet with you. Basil said he had fallen in love too, but with someone else." Brooke paused and took a breath before continuing. "My first thought was that the other girl was you. I was so angry. How could Basil do this to me?"
'How could Basil do that to HER? Didn't Brooke remember that she and Basil had broken her trust?' Callie thought angrily to herself. 'Is this some kind of a joke or what?' she fumed to herself. "I decided to do some snooping, so I broke into Basil's email account and saw the email her sent to you." Brooke continued. "I decided I had to keep you away from Basil. My first idea was to ask you to meet with me and pretend I was pregnant with Basil's baby. I knew you would stay away from him if I was carrying his child." Brooke stopped when she saw the look of horror on Callie's face. "Brooke! Have you lost your mind?" Callie loudly announced. "I don't know who this mystery love of Basil's is, but I can assure you it's not me! I haven't spoken to Basil since I moved out of the dorm! Have you forgotten that Basil kissed you while he was going out with me? You both hurt me so much. I trusted you both as my friends. I actually decided to ignore Basil's email. I really don't want anything to do with him." Caliie fumed with hurt and irritation. How could Brooke act like she was the victim here?
"Wait, what do you mean by your first idea? What is the second idea? What does this all have to do with me anyway?" Callie asked with confusion. "Well, during the weeks following the email I sent, I discovered that you weren't the love of Basil's life, it was Beth. Do you remember Beth from the dorm? She and Basil are engaged. They are getting married this summer." Brooke said sadly.
"Beth? Engaged?" Callie stated with shock. "Wow."
"The thing is I was going to fake a pregnancy to get Basil away from you, but I just found out a few weeks ago that I am in fact really pregnant with Basil's child. How's that for irony?" Brooke continued quietly. I guess I decided to still meet with you because I have been doing a lot of thinking. I wanted to tell you I was sorry. I know now how I must have made you feel." "Brooke, I don't even know what to say." Callie said stunned. "I'm sorry life hasn't turned out the way you have planned. What are you going to do?"
"Well, that's one of the reasons I am meeting with my advisor. I am planning on moving back in with my parents and maybe taking some courses online after the baby is born. I'm sure I will tell Basil eventually, but that is the least of my worries right now." "Look, I better get going." Brooke said quickly as she suddenly jumped up from the couch. "I just wanted to tell you I wouldn't be around on campus next year and to say I was sorry."
"Ok, take care of yourself and the baby Brooke. I wish you the best." Callie said sincerely as she hugged Brooke goodbye. "Wow! That is crazy Callie! Talk about major drama!" Drew said later that night as Callie told him about her conversation with Brooke. "Are you okay with all of this? I know you liked Basil."
"Brooke really shocked me today, but I can tell you with certainty I am over Basil." Callie answered back. "Honestly I think me walking in on Basil and Brooke kissing was a blessing in disguise. Basil is bonded to two different women now. One he is marrying and one is carrying his child. I am so thankful that neither one of them is me!" Callie answered honestly and with relief. "I'm glad you are over Basil too." Drew said quietly. "I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed getting to know you the last few months. I really like you Callie."
"I like you too." Callie said shyly. Both of them were grinning ear to ear and glad the other person couldn't see their faces.
"Olivia is coming up this weekend to see Chris..." Drew began and then paused to gather courage. "I was wondering if you might consider coming with her and going out on a date with me." Drew held his breath as he waited for Callie's response. It felt like several minutes went by, although it was really only a second. "Yes, I'll go out with you." Callie answered sweetly. Drew had to restrain himself. He almost shouted with glee and would have looked like a moron.
"Awesome. Ok, I'll let you go. I'll see you this weekend. Have a good rest of your week!" Drew finished as he hung up the phone. The phone was barely in its cradle before Drew started shouting and jumping up and down. "Chris! Chris!" Drew shouted down the hall. "Callie's coming up with Olivia!" Three years later... Drew and Callie Jacobs lay on their bed, sharing their day with each other. They had been married for a year now . Drew worked as an architect for Cheshire and Associates, while Callie taught art classes at the local community center. Callie's brother Luke had married Erin two years ago and Olivia and Chris were getting married in the summer. All three couples lived within driving distance of each other and they got together regularly for cookouts and parties.
"Drew, I have some exciting news to tell you! I could hardly wait all day for you to come home." Callie said excitedly.
"Did you get a raise or something?" Drew inquired.
"No. Erin and Luke's daughter, our niece Brianna is going to have a new little playmate in nine months." Callie paused after this statement to let the words sink in to Drew's brain. "Erin's pregnant again? That's awesome! Another niece or nephew for us to spoil!" Drew cheered excitedly. "No honey." Callie said as she shook her head and smiled slyly. "I'm pregnant. We are the ones having a baby." Drew let out the loudest whoop and grabbed Callie in a passionate kiss.
"I love you Mrs. Jacobs! I love this baby too!" Drew proclaimed as kissed Callie over and over.
"I love you too Drew!" Callie said as she cried tears of joy. She was thrilled to be sharing this moment and this new little life with such a wonderful husband. Callie's heart had never felt so full.
