When this picture was first taken I never expected to fall in love with the boy that was in my arms. That's right--I love Orlando Bertini. Too bad he'll never know. I wouldn't risk losing my best friend because of a crush, no matter how bad it hurt me knowing that we'd never be more than that.

I wouldn't risk losing my best friend because of a crush, no matter how bad it hurt me knowing that we'd never be more than that. We met when we were five years old, and instantly clicked. Every day since then, we've been together, never doing anything without the other. We broke rules together, jumping on the beds even after our parents had shouted at us to stop more than once. We did our homework together after school. I helped him with geography, and he helped me with math when I wasn't quite sure what to do. We told each other everything, with the exception of the fact that I was deeply, truly in love with him. We wouldn't leave out the tiniest detail when we were talking to each other. "We're going to be friends forever, Lucy," Orlando had told me one night when we were eight.
"Wrong," I remember replying. "We aren't just going to be friends, we'll be much more!"
"That's right," he had said back to me. "We're going to be best friends!"

If only I'd known now that when I'd said we'd be much more than friends that I'd soon be wishing, praying even that we'd be even more than best friends. It's been eleven years since the day I met Orlando. This is me now: Lucy Burb, age sixteen, junior at Tallyland Ridge Highschool. This is my lovely mother, Jennifer Burb. Aside from Orlando, she's probably the closest friend I have. And this is my father, John Burb. He's really overprotective of me, and although he hasn't said anything about it, I think he doesn't really like how close me and Orlando are. I think that he thinks I'll get hurt by him. Hopefully my dads fear will never happen.. And this beautiful, handsome, perfectly godly being, if you don't recognize him all grown up, is Orlando. Yes, we are still best friends, and yes, he still doesn't know I love him. And by the looks of things now, he probably never will...
