Hi , welcome to my latest story. I had not intended to write another one for a while. It has been a wet week-end here in Wales so the computer won! This is just a fun story so bear with me . It made me smile working on it, and made the sun come out . So here goes. As always tremendous thanks for all the CC. Apologies for any typos etc. Enjoy...
Jodie's two best friends were Katie and Shelly. The three girls were so different in temprament and looks but they were always together, they had such a special bond. Katie was Jodie's neighbour and they had been friends since their first day at school. Katie was always around Jodies house , they had a great time trying on different clothes , talking about boys and playing Sims2 on the computer... Shelly had only recently moved into the area. She sat next to Jodie in class and had got to know the real Jodie and liked what she saw.
Shelly always had perfect hair, perfect clothes, perfect make up. She practiced on Jodie , but Jodie always washed it off. This was another part of Shelly that was perfect , her brother Philip. All the girls in school drooled over Philip. He was rather shy and kept himself to himself. Secretly Jodie had a soft spot for Philip.
She wrote in her diary every evening about him. She also day dreamed , that when they were older he would whisk her away to an exotic island...
Jodies mother was always telling her to " Snap out of it , This dreaming will get you nowhere" One Friday evening the girls went to the roller park and much to Jodies delight Philip was there. She became so flustered that she could hardly stand up straight.
She was talking to herself,
" Get a grip girl , don't make a fool of yourself , pretend you are a top class skater. Oh please just let me stand up straight , don't let me fall"... Around and around she went becoming more and more confident .
Singing "Ive got a brand new pair of roller skates"!!
At one moment she was so happy, happy that she was close to Philip, she thought she could do a pirouette !.. Just as it was time to leave Philip came up to her.
"Hi Jodie , you were good out there . Didn't know you had such talent"
Her heart missed a beat, Philip was actualy talking to HER. There were all the other girls out there but he choose to speak to her... Instead of answering with an,
"Oh you were pretty good yourself" Oh no ,she could not do that , her whole brain froze. Not a single word would come out. She just stood there ...
Feeling embarassed himself Philip said "See you" and left... Jodie felt such a fool , she wanted the ground to open up and swallow her. She had the opportunity and messed it up.
Katie and Shelly had told her many a time how to talk to boys . They had practiced on several occasions in her bedroom.
But no, when it actually happened , she blew it , blew it big time... She went home that night and did what she always did . Wrote in her diary.
" Made a right fool of myself today. PHILIP , yes Philip spoke to me and what did I do. Nothing.
I wanted to tell him , how he made my heart miss a beat , how he made the sunshine when I saw his face, but all that came out was... NOTHING... Will he ever even look at me again... It was the school dance at the end of the week. The school's' highlight of the year.
Katie came over to Jodies room to help out with some dance moves.
"I can't do that " Jodie said "I would feel such an idiot"
"Give it a go" Katie said, "It will be different when you are all dressed up."
Jodie tried, but could do nothing for laughing, she gave up and sat on her bed watching...
Then came the fashion parade,
"You need to put your hair down , lots of curls , Shelly will do your make up. You will look gorgeous" Katie was full of good ideas , she wanted to see her friend have fun for a change... It was the morning of the dance .
Jodie went to the mirror and found the biggest sit ever on the side of her face.
" Oh bring it on, no sits for weeks and then today a great big mole hill"
She plastered on the acne cream and hoped for the best... That afternoon after school, Shelly came over and put Jodies hair in curlers and Katie prepared a face pack. They then went home to get ready for the dance. Jodie was so glad that she had good friends that cared for her.Perhaps tonight would be different , she could relax with her friends and have some fun... Jodie had a couple of hours to waste before it was time to leave. She had showered , her dress was hanging up.
All she had to do was wash the muck off her face and brush her hair.
She decided to lie on her bed and think what she would say to Philip... if he ever spoke to her again.. It was then she noticed a flutter at the end of her bed.
Jodie sat up "Who are you , how did you get in here"
Don't be afraid , I am your good fairy , I heard that you needed some help so here I am , what are your wishes. I can do silk , I can do glamour and my speciality is elegance"
Before Jodie could answer there was a loud screeching noise. It was as if someone was scraping a nail along the black board. The good fairy covered her ears.
" OH, noooo, she is on her way, I would recognise that screech anywhere. She always follows me around , trying to mess up my plans, Whatever you do don't listen to her, you will end up looking like a scarecrow if you listen to her" There was a big puff of smoke and there she was.
"Well hello there ,I am your Bad fairy. Bad with a capital B. I heard you wanted some advice , I can give you plenty.
Just tell me what you want to do and I can do it , " she chuckled.
"What would you like , don't listen to goody two shoes over there , don't go for elegance go for... She stopped in mid sentence.
" Ooohh,yeuk, what's that's smell. That's a goody goody smell, don't tell me she has heard about your problem too. She can never keep her nose out. Wait for it here she comes . It will be stand by your beds, do this do that. She always stops me from having fun".. "Cooeee, I'm over here Jodie, your very own fairy godmother, So sorry I'm late. Have not been called to help with a ball for years. What are you two fairies doing here? Come to see how the creme de la creme works." Now come on we have much work to do here , we need to make dresses, find mice , search for pumpkins. Come on girls ,chop chop. Don't just stand there looking pretty". "Right then Jodie, Hmm , good hair and teeth, good skin, barr for that one sit! Lets see what we can do.
Jodie stood there she was too scared to speak .
"I have not done a ball for years, so you will have to bare with me lets see"...
Alacasam , alacazoo... Let's have a look at what we can do! Jodie appeared in a ball gown , her hair and make up expertly done.
"Excuse me fairy godmother , I don't mean to be ungrateful , this is a very nice dress but I think its a bit dated for the school dance." The two fairies laughed.
"Fairy goodmother you are way out, this is 2007 , people don't do balls anymore. Especially in dresses like that"
They could hardly stand up for laughing. Fairy goodmother was not going to be outwitted.
"Er humm I just got my spells mixed up , I'm a bit rusty. Hold on lets have another go"
Alacazam, Alacasat...
Well here we go, how do you like that!...
Jodie looked in the mirror and could hardly belive her eyes.
"Is it really me , do I honestly look like that. "
Even the two fairies cheered .
Fairy godmother had worked wonders. She still had her magic powers, although they were a bit on the rusty side... "Ok Jodie is ready now we need transport" . Make haste find me a pumpkin and some mice. "
The bad fairy tittered ,
"You are so out of date, people don't have a horse and carriage any more, where have you been hiding all these years"
Fairy godmother was adamant. " If you are going to do something , at least do it properly, that's my motto.Come on lets try with this pumpkin. We all need to work together now. This is not a laughing matter."
One two three................
Its a good job the spell did not work as the room was too small to take a horse drawn carriage!
There in the middle of the room stood a big bright motorbike...
"Oh dear" said Fairy godmother "I seem to be having a bad day today." The two fairies were rolling on the floor , they could not keep a straight face any longer... "Fairy godmother" said Jodie "I appreciate everything you have done for me. The dress, the hair , the make up. I will go to the dance in a cab, forget the transport ,its not a problem.
Now can you get this bike out of my room before my mum sees it, please."
With a swish of a hand it was gone... "Well I had better be off", said Jodie. Thank you once again for all your help , I'm sure I'm going to have a ball... The three fairies looked at Jodie and were very pleased with their evenings work.
"Have a wonderfull evening and don't forget. Believe in yourself . You have some much inner beauty , it can't help but shine through"
Jodie blinked and they were gone... She arrived at the dance to see Philip in the middle of the dance floor.
Was this really Philip , the shy Philip that she knew, and what WAS he wearing, had he found a fairy godmother too...
Jodie could hear her mother calling, softly to begin with and then very loudly, almost as if she was shouting in her ear... "Jodie, Jodie for goodness sake , you were meant to be ready an hour ago .
You have a guest down stairs, infact he is on his way upstairs as we speak"... Jodie woke up with a start . She must have been asleep , must have been dreaming. What a time to fall asleep .
" Look at the mess I'm in . I will never make it to the dance now."
Jodies mum left the room and in walked Philip , yes Philip... "I'm sorry to disturb you Jodie but I wanted to know if you would like to go to the dance with me."
Philip was oblivious to the stae of dress Jodie was in . He was concentrating so hard in getting his words out... Jodie replied,
"I would love to, but I think I need to get ready first, I feel so embarrased you seeing me like this , I must look a right mess." Phillip took a step forward and put his arms around Jodie
"You have always looked beautiful to me ".
Jodies heart just melted. " Give me ten minutes and I will be ready" She appeared out of the bathroom and Philip could hardly belive his eyes.
Jodie touched him gently and he could almost feel his feet lift off the floor... Jodie felt so confident as she remembered the words in her dream
" Belive in yourself"
Come on then she said to Philip what are we waiting for.
"Lets go to this dance and have some fun"... Jodie took one last look at herself in the mirror as she left the room.
She saw what appeared to be a wolf looking at her...
"Excuse me miss, have you seen Little Red Riding Hood" ( in a gruff voice)
Jodie gave herself a shake , blinked and he was gone ...
"I must get on with life and stop all this day dreaming!!"
With that in mind she went out and had one of the best times of her life...
