Hi my name is Luke. Thanks for dropping in to see me . If you have five minutes to spare, I will tell you a story.Though I must warn you, if you are looking for a happy ending you best leave now as this is a tale that will bring a tear to your eye. I've been told its good to talk, to get things off your chest so here goes...

I've been told its good to talk, to get things off your chest so here goes... Im just an ordinary guy , nothing special. I have two things in life, not much is it when you think I've been on this earth for seventeen years. I have my bike, yes its all mine . I've worked hard through all the school holidays to buy this bike and last month went to pick it up from the garage. It my pride and joy. Oh yes, the other thing. My brain! yes you heard right ,my brain. I decided at a young age that I was going to do something with my life and that meant a good education. So thats why I still go to school and study. My dream is to one day go to University... Today was the begining of a new term. Talk had been rife among the student about a new girl that was starting in class. You know the sort , long hair , long legs, every guys dream. I was still a bit awkward around girls , never knew what to say to them. After a while they got fed up talking about bikes! Her name was Laura. She had the most beautiful green eyes I had ever seen. Eyes that when you looked into them seemed to melt away at your soul. She was drop dead gorgeous. We all introduced ourselves. Laura's parents had moved to town a few weeks ago . She was an only child and had come to the school as it had a good reputation for Science. You see Laura was going to University to train to be a doctor. The girl had brains and beauty. It had been snowing hard for days. When it was lunch break we all rushed ouside like big kids, no time to put coats on, just out. We were messing about making snow angels. Laura stood there , she had never heard of snow angels. " Come on" I called "Have a go its fun" " Oh I can't" she said , "I want too but I can't, it will be too cold". She had a great big smile on her face and was jumping about like a big kid... She finaly plucked up courage and threw herself into the cold snow. , " Look I've done it , have I made an angel".
She looked up at me and my heart just raced , she looked so beautiful lying there in the snow. Those big green eyes looking at me.
The bell went for afternoon class and we all rushed back into the warm.

 After school Laura wanted to go out again and make a snow man " Come on " she said "come and help me" She told me that they never had snow where she came from so she wanted to make the most of it. She did not want to build any old snow man , it had to be just perfect. I was starting to get cold and said " Come on its finished now" But all I got was "Not just yet, almost there". She called me over to inspect the finished masterpiece. " There what do you think, don't you think he is beautiful" You remember I told you I was a bit clumsy with girls. Well I was so surprised with what I said next. I turned around and said. " You, are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in the snow" She swung around and hugged me. My heart skipped a beat. Laura snuggled into my shoulder. " You are the first boy to tell me that I'm beautiful"
And then it happened... I kissed her. Iv'e watched these soppy films before when boy meets girl and falls head over heels in love and thought what utter nonsense. And here I was kissing a girl I had only met that morning it all felt so right. Laura and I dated for the next couple of weeks. She invited me home to meet her mum and dad. I was petrified. You see I didn't have many social skills. My mum left us when I was eight and I,ve been brought, or should I say dragged up by an alcoholic father. Meal times were spent alone in front of the TV, and it was usualy something out of a can.
They made me feel so welcome . We sat down at a table and ate a delicios meal cooked by Beth , Laura's mum. We talked for hours around the table. It made me realise just how much I had missed not having a family around. We had decided we wanted to take our relationship further. We booked a room in a hotel. Laura told her parents she was staying with some friends. Well I didn't have to worry about my dad . He never knew what time of day it was so he would not worry. We packed an overnight bag and a few other essentials and off we went on my bike... Laura got undressed in the bathroom, she was very nervous. " I'm sorry " she said but I haven't got any grown up underwear and if I had bought some , mum would have seen them". She looked so young and innocent. I was begining to have doubts, were we rushing this relationship . I held her in my arms, all I could think of was how beautiful she looked and how warm she felt... I had never been this close to a girl before. I was hoping that I would not mess up. Should I have ate that garlic for lunch, did I need a shower all these stupid things were rushing through my mind! Things were hotting up rapidly, then all of a sudden Laura let go and jumped away... " I dont think I can do this, I'm frightened , I think I want to go home" And then she burst into tears, between her sobs she said " Please dont hate me , I'm not a tease . I want to but I' m too scared" I held her close and said " I don't hate you , it doesn't matter. We can wait." And then I admitted to her that it was my first time too... " Oh that makes me feel so much better" she said.
And do you know I felt better too as I don't think either of us were ready to take such a big step. Our relationship was going to be fine just as it was... She seemed to relax and started laughing " And there was me thinking you were the college stud!" I tickled her until she had to beg me to stop... The rest of the evening we just lay on the bed watching tv and talking. We felt so comfortable in each others company. The following day we got up early and went skating. Laura had never been before , she was a born natural and loved every minute on the ice. I held her close and it seemed like the right time so I said. " I Love You Laura" and guess what , she whispered back "I Love you too" It was soon time for the end of term ball. The last two weeks all the talk had been about what to wear , who we were taking. It was the first time I had ever taken a girl to the ball. The previous year I had gone with the boys and just messed about. This year was different I was going with the most beautiful girl in the school on my arm.. The evening was going well , I just loved being with Laura , having her close to me. I had always said that I would never get close to a girl. I had seen the mess my mom and dad had made of their marriage, and how they ended up hating each other. I pulled her towards me and looked into those green eyes and said " I want to spend my whole life with you , will you marry me one day"
She had the biggest smile on her face when she said "Yes please" I felt like the happiest person in the world. The girl of my dreams had said yes. I knew it would not be for a few years as we both wanted to go to Uni , the most important thing was that she had said yes, yes, yes... The evening had come to an end. Laura's dad was picking us up so Laura said she would go to the car park to find him while I finished my drink and said goodbye to some friends... It was then it hapeened . I can say to the minute when my life started to fall apart when all the happy times I had been dreaming about started to slip away from me.
Laura had gone to find her dad in the car park when these two jerks came around the corner. They were having a race with another car, they did not see Laura step off the curb and knocked her over. I stepped out of the hall just in time to see her fall to the ground. I tried to call her name , but nothing came, not a sound.

 Laura was rushed into hospial and taken straight into theatre. I was not allowed to see her . Her mum and Dad told me to go home , they would call me if there was any news. I did not sleep that night , I just drove around on my bike , praying that Laura would be ok . As soon as it was daylight I went back to the hospital.
She was still asleep and I stood by her bed for what seemed like hours... She started to wake up " Where am I , what happened to my head". She tried to get out of bed . I explained to her about the accident and that she had had an operation. "I must get up" she said " I want to tell you something" " You can tell me when you get back to bed" I said to her gently, and tried to help her back on the bed. " I love you Luke , very very much , never forget me" I managed to get her back on the bed. I kissed her gently . She had a smile on her face but looked very tired. I decided to leave her rest. I called the nusre in and waved Laura goodbye... I went in the following day to find Laura's bed empty. There was a nurse in the room.
I asked "Has Laura been moved".
There was an awkward silence, she turned around." Laura's parents have gone to your house, did you not see them."
I explained that I had stayed at a friends house last night. She looked at me and then said... "I am so sorry, but Laura died at four this moring."
The nurses words seemed to echo around the room. I must have been dreaming , I thought any moment now I would wake up , it had all been a dream . I would wake up and look into Laura's big green eyes.... The nurse cotinued.
" She collapsed and had to be taken back to theatre, she died on the operating table, there was nothing that could be done to save her.

My whole world fell apart my dreams and my hopes for the future. I just wanted to be with Laura... The next few days passed in a daze. I could't eat, I couln't sleep , I just sat in my room staring at the wall. Laura had been the one I was going to face the world with, how was I going to do that without her.
The day of the funeral arrived. The church was full of students from the school , Laura had made such an impact on all of lives. We all came to say our goodbyes.. The school had a memorial built for Laura. It's a place I go to often. A place I can sit and remember all the good times we had together... I have stayed in touch with Laura's parents. We have helped each other through the bad times. I'm off to University this year to follow my dream, a dream I will have to continue without my beautiful Laura. Nevertheless a dream that I will hopefully achive one day. Laura in the short time I knew her taught me how to love and be loved in return , how to have trust and faith in someone . Qualities I never knew I had until I met her. No I will never forget you Laura , I would not want to...
