Every time I play with Mortimer Goth he seems to be so sad and miserable this is what happened when I decided to give Mortimer a second chance, Hope you enjoy reading...... Well hello there, my name is Mortimer , Mortimer Goth. All you Simmers out there know me. You have all played some very interesting games with me. Most of all I am portrayed as an old groutch, but belive me there is much more to me that meets the eye. Well there must be something about me , how else would I have had such a beautiful wife as Bella. You all know about Bella don't you , such a sad affair. Will we ever find out what happened to her. There is only one person in the whole Sim world that knows but will he ever tell us... I am so tired of this life of solitude, so tired of being lonely.
Cassy left home a while ago. Went on a quest with Jubilant to try and find Bella. I read about her adventures and she calls me now and again. Its not the same as having her in the house though.
Alex went off to University with Gamecubesam. He seems to be having a good time. You know boys though, he only calls when he is short of cash. I'm not complaining as I was exactly the same when I was his age...
This young lady called Dina has started to visit me during the afternoon. She seems to be getting quite fond of me.

I look forward to her visits as its wonderful to have company , someone to talk to.

Sometimes I feel a bit awkward as she is not much older than my daughter.

I value her friendship, she helps keep an old man sane...
One evening she rang,

"Hey, Mortimer, get your glad rags on . I'm coming round to ask you something and then we are going out on the town to celebrate".

I was intrigued, what in heavens did she want to ask me , and what would we be celebrating...
She looked very elegant in her black gown, I could tell that she had made an effort, but what was the occassion.

She held my hand across the table.

"Mortimer, I do love to come and visit you in this great big house , I just wish I did not have to go home every evening. You must get so lonely here"

"Oh, I do" I replied " I was thinking of getting a dog to keep me company".
"Oh I think I could do much better than that she said " as she pushed a little blue box towards me.

" Mortimer marry me and solve all your problems".
"Oh my dear Dina , I could not possibly marry you, you see I don't love you and I could not marry a girl that I did not love"... "I am so sorry if I have given you the wrong idea" .

I felt so uncomfortable , she sat there staring at me in disbelief...
She looked so despondant as if her whole world had fallen apart.

I felt so guilty , had I been giving her false hope...
The next thing I knew she was down on her knees.

"Oh Mortimer , you must say yes , I am lost without you"
"That is enough " I said ,

"I am sorry if I gave you the wrong impression. I have valued your visits and your friendship, but that is all I have to offer. Marriage had never crossed my mind."
"I think you ought to leave before we both say something we regret"

I had a feeling I was not going to be given a choice and was going to hear a lot more by the look on her face...
"Friendship" , she almost spat the words out... "I have been coming here for months, listening to you prattle on about Bella. Bella this , Bella that. you have bored me to tears"... "My only hope, was that you silly old fool would fall in love with me. I was only interested in your money. You repulse me".
With that she slapped me across the face.

I don't know whether it was her hand or her words that hurt me the most...
She picked up the ring and walked out into the night.

What a fool I had been . I should have realised what was happening and put a stop to it weeks ago , but my lonliness had got in the way, stopped me thinking straight...
I broke down and cried.
I cried for all the wasted years I had spent hoping for Bella to retun.
I cried for all the lonely hours I had spent alone in this great big house.
I cried thinking that my life was nearly over and that any chance of happiness was lost...
It was the longest loneliest night I had ever spent...
The following morning, I got up showered and decided that today was going to be a positive day.
Dina's words had hurt but they had also rung true.

I was not going to mope about feeling sorry for myself , if I wanted my share of happiness I had to go out there and find it.

A new neighbour had moved into the area so I thought I would do the neighbourly thing and go and introduce myself...
"Good morning Madam, welcome to Plesantville. My name is Mortimer, Mortimer Goth"

The warmest of faces turned around to greet me.

"Well , hello there to you to, I'm Polly Green"

She had the warmest of voices.

" Do come in and have a coffee"...
I had only meant to introduce myself and be on my way.

Two hours and three cups of coffee later I was still sat in Polly's lounge.

Polly was a widow with a grown up son. She had moved to Plesanville to retire.

"My great big house was much too big for one , I was rattling about in it getting lost and lonely, Do you get lonely Mortie, I hope you don't mind me calling you Mortie."

Her mouth was not still for a minute. I did not mind , I hung on to every word...
After spending most of the afternoon with Polly I stole myself away.
I knew all her life 's history.
I felt so much more lighthearted than the man that woke up this morning.
Listening to Polly had been like taking a good medicine.
Did I mind her calliing me Mortie, she could call me anything as long as she called!..
The following evening we made arragement to dine out together. We met in a cosy little restaraunt close to Polly's house.

"Tell me about yourself Mortie, tell me why your eyes are so sad."

I did not want to burden her with my woes so told her her briefly about Bella's disapperance.

Polly raised her glass.

"A toast to us Mortie, let us both find future happiness"

"Here,s hoping Polly, here's hoping".
It was a lovely summers evening so we walked home.
We had so much in comon. We liked to read the same books, listen to the same music , eat the same food.

I held her hand to say goodnight.

"Thank you Polly for a memorable evening , lets hope we can meet again one day"

My heart skipped a beat . I had forgotten such emotions. Forgotten how warm a womans touch was...
That night I hardly slept. I was in a quandry. I paced up and down my bedroom floor.

Where were all these feelings coming from. Why did I feel such tenderness towards Polly. I had only met her the previous day , yet I could not get her out of my mind.

Was it wrong to feel like this when Bella could be out there suffering.

" Bella tell me what I need to do, I have waited so long . Would you forgive me if I was unfaithful to you".

I had been faithful to Bella for all these years. Surley I was entitled to some happiness before it was too late..
The following evening Polly invited me around for drinks by the pool.

She was so much fun to be with, always laughing and joking.

She made me feel so innocent and free, so alive...
We sat uner the stary sky for hours talking about our dreams and hopes.

I looked across and saw how beautiful Polly looked and how relaxed and happy I was in her company.

It was then I decided what I had to do if I was to ever find true happiness again...
The following morning I went into town and bought the biggest diamond ring I could find. Also a bouquet of red roses for luck.
I had forgotten what a romantic fellow I could be.
Ring and roses in hand I marched off to Polly's house.
I was a man on a mission...
Polly was in the garden when I arrived looking more beautiful than ever.

" Oh Mortie , red roses for me , you are so thoughtful"

I looked into her eyes and my courage began to falter...
She held my hand, she had a worried look on her face.

" Mortie, tell me what's wrong , you are trembling"

If I was ever to find happiness I had to do it now...
I went down on one knee,

"Polly , I love you dearly, would you do me the honor of being my wife"

I felt as if I was down there for an eternity waiting for Polly's reply...
"Mortie I will gladly be your wife , I have loved you since the moment I set eyes on you"

Yes ,yes, yes...
That moment in time I felt as if I was the happiest man on earth.
All those years of misery seemed to evaporate into thin air.
It was as if someone had turned back the clock...
That night I stayed at Pollys , it seemed pointless for us both to go our seperate way.
Polly was in a daze all evening.
"Oh Mortie you have made me so happy. I had never dreamt I would find love so late in life, and then you came along"...
We deciced to get married the following week.
You can't hang about at our age , you never know what's around the corner...
" I, Mortimer take you Polly, to be my friend , my lover , my true companion"... "I Polly take you Mortimer to be my husband , loving what I know of you and trusting what I do not yet know"... "I come today to give you my love , to give you my heart and my hope for our future toghether"... Polly has helped me let go of the past and embrace a new future... We have sold our houses in Plesantville and moved to a cabin by the sea. Our days are filled with happiness... Because of Polly, I laugh , I smile , I dream again. Since I have found Polly I have found new life, new hope... I have been given a second chance in happiness, something I thought was lost to me forever.
We have such a lot we need to do together and not much time left . So with that in mind I will end my story.

If any of you Simmers ever find Bella can you tell her where I am , tell her that I did wait for ten years but I just had to grab this last chance of finding happiness .... I'm sure she will understand.

... THE END ...

Second Chance.

I understand, I would be writing more myself but my game keeps crashing. We found out yesterday that a software file is missing. So they are checking to see what Dell is going to do about it. They program my pc all wrong, and it has given me some serious fits! Thanks for writing stories to keep me entertained til mine gets fixed!!!! P.S. In my story, Mortimers insistant search for seeing a ghost did him in. He finally got to see one...and it scared him to death. I laughed so hard. During Cassandra's wedding no less!!!!
