A quiet knock at the door drew Aiden away from her sleep.
Slowly, she shuffled out of bed towards her door.

As she opened it, her annoyance vanished into total disbelief.
He stood with his head down and she wanted to run. He looked up and his gaze locked her into place.
His eyes brimmed red, scars marred his face, and blood splattered across his clothes
all caused her dull pain to awaken once again. She felt its force crushing against her chest.
His daze never left her face and she couldn't escape his eyes.
Those that pierced her very soul; all the while he took a step closer.
His fingers reached up and she shut her eyes.
They brushed tenderly across her cheek
and he leaned in closer to her ear.
"You broke me...." he whispered, "You lied to me...." and his hand dropped.
She started to tremble and felt the tears flow freely from her eyes.
She finally opened them and in seeing him turn away,
she desperately reached out to him and he stopped.
He gave her an incredulous look and she let him go.

The guilt that lingered around her grew unbearably heavy; she fell to her knees.
She looked up, he wasn't there. He simply wasn't there. Her door flew open and she awoke to Adrian's gentle nudging.
She felt his hand in hers and saw the concern in his face.
"You were screaming Aiden..." he said quietly.
She placed her hand to her forehead and slowly sat up.
"Bad dream I guess..." she muttered. And he let her hand go.
Aiden stood and Adrian stood with her.
She turned to look at him and he asked, "Want to talk about?..."
She paused and then shook her head, "Maybe another time..."
He stared at her for a long time and then shrugged and turned to leave.
But before he left, he stopped and turned back to face her.

"We have a meeting today, so don't be late again and leave me on my own." And he left.
She felt a shiver run down her spine and knew that it would not go well.

Celebration of breaking someone's resolve wasn't worth attending.
Every week or so, the Top Elite Hunters would enter the Headmaster's quarters
to discuss their progress, be assigned new missions, or be praised publicly for their success.
Aiden found herself being the last to file into the room but ignored the stares.

She didnt want to be here. She shouldn't really be here...
She sat next to Adrian who nodded and looked away and she did the same.
Then the Headmaster began to speak-
"Fellow friends, I give you all praise for the work you have been doing lately.
Know that your efforts have not been in vain. ADONIC numbers have decreased
significantly since their last uproar. All the while, ours numbers keep rising once again!"
"And thanks to our latest success, we will soon be able to make ADONIC numbers dwindle.
So it gives me great honor to address publicly that our favorite duo, Aiden & Adrian
have come through for us once again! Please rise you two."
As they both stood, Aiden noticed the blank stare on Adrian's face.
She knew that it most definitely mirrored her own.

And then the applause began and she felt like her ears would bleed.
Adrian managed a smile but they both turned to look at the Headmaster.
He gave them a disappointed smirk and allowed them to sit once again.
"Normally our friends would relish in their victories but as we all can see,
this was not an easy mission and I imagine their strength isn't up to par..."

And he continued.
Adrian kept his head low and Aiden avoided the glare that the Headmaster
was surely giving her. Instead they both listened to their fellow friends and
spaced out on the words they actually were saying.... They grew weary of
the meeting and waited to be dismissed.
There was more to this story... but I cut it short because I've had this whole part done since the 9th of July... :D And right now I don't have time to finish it. But I'll add in the ending in the next part. Sorry about the wait!

More soon, hopefully! :D

Mm. You think it is?? It doesn't really go in line with any of the other chapters, its just to focus on these two characters and the "other" side of things... Maybe I should have explained that?...Dang.
