Welcome to my first attempt at writing a story. My screenshot skill needs honing, but I have a pretty good idea where I want the dialogue to go.
Since this is a multi-chapter piece, the title may not make sense at first. I assure you, it will soon.
I welcome any suggestions...
Since this is a multi-chapter piece, the title may not make sense at first. I assure you, it will soon.
I welcome any suggestions... Grace Anne has been on pins and needles all week. She's leaving tomorrow for France and it's been a long time since she was last there.
Perhaps a game of chess with Ariel (her Simborg housemate) will calm her nerves.
---A stupid idea, really. Who can beat a Simbot/Sim Hybrid in a game of logic?--- Amazingly, the game is going quite well for Grace Anne. There is only one reason for her good luck; Ariel is letting her win.
---Unless something else is occupying Ariel's mind. She has seemed distracted lately.--- With a triumphant snarl, Grace Anne aggressively moves in for the kill. Ariel can see no way to protect her king from Grace Anne's advancing knight... "Check and Mate!" Grace Anne crows.
For the first time since the game began Ariel studies the board, sighs, and admits defeat. Mentally drained from the chess game, Grace Anne stumbles into bed.
Her sleep is filled with half-formed images of danger, but she won't be able to remember any of the nightmares when she wakes up in the morning.
This is a blessing and a curse. If only the forebodings of her subconscious mind could reach the surface... Memories of her old home still haunt her dreams, even though she feels she has put all that behind her and is living an independent life now. Ariel, too, dreams. She dreams of the secret project she is working on. She sees each little widget piecing together to form one glorious creation.
Her sleep is peaceful as she anticipates the coming days of freedom while Grace Anne is traveling. Even though Simbots modeled into Simborgs have superior mental processing capacity, there is still much Ariel needs to research as she moves from the design phase into the production phase of her dream machine. Getting up in the wee hours of the morning, Ariel contemplates the piles of work littering her living quarters in the garage. She should have ample time to tidy things up before Grace Anne wakes up and comes down for her car.
It has been so hard to come up with a plausible story to feed Grace Anne. Ariel hates being so secretive around her best friend, but rationalizes "ignorance is bliss," as she lies her way around Grace Anne's questions. Grace Anne has finally reached a state of relaxing sleep when the lights mysteriously switch on. As she heads downstairs to see if Ariel is talking to the house electrical control box again, Grace Anne gets a call from the security company that monitors the alarm detectors in her home.
[Dispatcher] Ms. Browning? We have received a security breach notification from your location. The police have already been informed, so you should not attempt to apprehend the intruder yourself. Ha! I am well trained in Sim Fu and have a Simborg living at my "location." Of course I will leave the police to deal with the break-in, but I won't merely stand by while someone tries to steal any of my relic collections! Now downstairs, Grace Anne sees a police officer is already on the scene and detaining the intruder. What a relief! She won't have to pull any of her Sim Fu moves on this criminal. As she approaches the encounter between the police officer and the culprit, she gets the distinct impression she may need to employ some of her finer Sim Fu defenses after all. This thief isn't going quietly! Luckily, "Officer Friendly" here has some tiger blood running through her veins. The fight is on! [Grace Anne] Hey! I recognize you two. Officer Rose, many thanks for such a rapid response! Don't tell me you were hanging out at the donut shop at the end of the block...
And you, Twyla Summers! Who would ever have thought you would resort to petty thievery. Sure, you are probably responsible for all the cyber-crime around Sunset Valley, but I always thought of you as nothing more than a glorified geek! [Officer Tia Rose] Alright you! I'm charging you with breaking and entering, assaulting a police officer, and anything else I can come up with on the way back to the station. Put your hands behind your back so I can put these cuffs on you! [Officer Tia Rose] I've taken a look around the place and everything looks safe now. Take my card and give me a call if you discover anything has been stolen. [Grace Anne] I will certainly do exactly that. I've been traveling a lot lately and have accumulated a large collection of relics from all around the world. These artifacts could never be replaced, only recovered by a crack police officer like yourself. You get a thumbs-up from me, and I'll make sure everyone knows about it at the station, too. Tia gets ready to leave, but feels the weight of the cold stares from behind her back. She has known Grace Anne and that weird Simborg of hers since they moved to Sunset Valley, but they have always been a solitary couple and keep to themselves. Nothing seems amiss, but she still has an uneasy feeling in her cop's gut. Officer Rose is no stranger to the streets, and a cop's instinct becomes tuned in to situations that aren't "quite right." For now, all she is willing to do is get back to the station with her prisoner.
Grace Anne was right about Twyla Summers, though. She is heavily into computers and technology, but has never tried an actual heist... As Tia approaches her patrol car, she is met by a man she doesn't recognize. It is 4 o'clock in the morning! What is this stranger doing out here in the middle of the night, right after a robbery attempt? When asked to identify himself, the man flips a badge at her so quickly she can't make out what it says and tells her he has secret business to attend to. Before Tia can say anything else, the man disappears into the shadows. There is definitely something going on at that house! Right now, Officer Rose has official police business to do, namely hauling in her captive. Twyla sits silently in the patrol car, giving off bad vibes. Tia knows she has a long day ahead of her, but she is going to get some information out of Twyla before sticking her in a cell! Officer Rose and Twyla start toward the station, thoughts of the night's activities whirling in both their heads.
Twyla is too scared to talk, no matter what Tia Rose may threaten to do. There is too much at stake to slip up now and involve the police in a matter better handled by a higher authority... Thank you to everyone who made it to the end of this story! Again, if you have any suggestions, don't be shy!!
As you can tell, I use a TREMENDOUS amount of cc from all the creators here at TSR. I thank each of you with all my heart!!
Hope to see you soon with my next chapter!!
