It was a small neighborhood that most people had never heard of. The few people who had heard of Burncoat knew nothing about the town besides its long bitter winters and short blazingly hot summers. Ravena was sixteen years old and in her junior year at Burncoat Vocational High School. She was studying cosmetology at Burncoat Vocational. Ravena's grandmother had lived with her family for as long as Ravena could remember. She had moved in right after Ravena's father had moved out, back when Ravena was still an infant. Ravena's grandmother made the best grilled cheese and tomato sandwiches, and she was the only person Ravena knew who truly enjoyed cleaning. Her grandmother was also a terrible gossip. Ravena always cringed when she spotted her grandmother on the back porch with her telescope. It thrilled her grandmother though. Ravena's grandmother always reported what she saw to Ravena's mother straight-away. Ravena also had an older brother, Zane. He desperately wanted to be a musician. She adored him. Ravena's older sister, Estella, also lived with the family. Unfortunately, Estella had discovered she was unexpectedly pregnant a few months ago. She had only just turned twenty and was understandably upset. She had been attending college part-time since high school and was still living with their mother. Estella had begun worrying constantly. When her belly had started to grow she had begun telling her family the news. Zane had seemed concerned at first. But in the end had simply hugged Estella and congratulated her. Estella still wasn't sure what he really thought though... Still, her toughest family members had been yet to come. Her mother hadn't been understanding in the least. "I don't understand why you insist on throwing your life away, Estella!" she had yelled. "Why make things so hard for yourself!?" She had left the room fuming, unable to say more. Estella had rarely seen her that angry. Her grandmother had been ever worse. "Young, unmarried women do NOT have babies, Estella!" she had screeched while gesticulating wildly. "You're a disgrace to our entire family!" Estella had run straight to her room and cried hysetically. Enter caption here. . . As far as Ravena could tell Estella spent most of her time sequested in her room. She didn't know what Estella did in there, but she didn't dare knock. Ravena certainly was excited about the baby though. Ravena's mother, Desiree, ruled the household. She and Ravena didn't always get along so well. Ravena desperately wished her mother would get a real job, rather than carry on the shenanigans she did. Another source of conflict was Desiree's boyfriend, err "manfriend," Bernard. He was such a hopeless dork. Desiree appeared to be completely blind to this fact though. Seeing them together made Ravena's stomach turn.
