Welcome to the Prologue of That Special Bond. This part might not be the interesting part because it's intended to introduce you to the characters and give you some background. Keep an eye out for the first part of the story!! Enjoy!! Sarah married Nick Calloway when she was still young. Most of their family objected to it, but they married anyways. The ceremony was small and simple. After a few months of marriage, the couple decided they wanted a bigger family. They weren't quite ready to have kids yet, so they adopted two dogs instead. Despite their goals to wait on children, Sara found herself pregnant in no time. Nick was looking forward to being a daddy. It was around noon when Sara gave birth to a baby girl. They named her Amanda and set up her room. Their new lives as parents was about to begin. As Sarah was putting the baby to bed, she heard Nick call up to her to call the fire department. The stove had caught fire. The fire department didn't get there in time though. Nick was quickly consumed by flames and the Grim Reaper paid a visit to the family. As Sarah cleaned up the mess, her hands shook with fear - fear of what the future would bring. She had suddenly gone from happily married to a single mother with two dogs. Sarah quickly got in a routine of managing things. She was working, taking care of a baby, and raising two pets. Nick had left quite a deal of money behind to her and the pets were helping out by holding jobs of their own. Working and managing the house was hard work but they were making it work. As Amanda began to age, something came to Sarah's attention - Tara seemed to be expecting puppies. It looked like their house would be growing again. In no time at all, baby Amanda was celebrating her third birthday. She would be needing even more care as she learned to walk, talk, and use the potty. Sarah was prepared to take on the world. Tara gave birth to two puppies - a boy and girl. Sara allowed Amanda (who could now talk) to name them. The puppies were given the names of Prince and Princess. Amanda immediately took a liking to the puppies. In fact, she loved to cuddle all of the pets and Sarah knew that one day Amanda would have a houseful of pets. Amanda was a quick learner. She learned to do new things extremely quick. This made Sarah's job of mother much easier and allowed for Sarah to spend moments having fun with her daughter as well. The years continued to fly by and Amanda continued to grow. She was soon becoming a child. Sarah and Amanda talked over birthday cake. The two of them were growing quite close. Amanda loved to dance with her mother just about anywhere. Sarah enjoyed the rare opportunities of enjoying her daughter's company. She was having to work more and more to make ends meet these days. The puppies grew up as well. They were an odd mix of their parents and very energetic. Sarah was determined that Amanda would have only the best. Therefore, she called the headmaster over for dinner one night. After a few hours and a lot of hard work at trying to impress him, Amanda got into private school. Sarah and Amanda celebrated the accomplishment long into the night. Amanda was soon becoming a teenager. Sarah was often times having to remind herself that she was the mother. Amanda was more like a best friend than a daughter. Amanda celebrated her sixteenth birthday with her mother as company. This is how it had always been - just the two of them and Amanda wouldn't want it any other way. Sarah found that things were getting easier as Amanda pitched in around the house. She even found some downtime to take the dogs to the dog park. Amanda had just graduated from high school and was leaving for college the next day. Sarah had taken her out to celebrate her accomplishment. She knew her daughter would be leaving soon. Sarah did not enjoy dancing and generally was not willing to make a fool of herself in public. Amanda was able to convince her to take a spin on the dance floor. Amanda was delighted to see her mother loosening up. As Amanda got into the taxi to leave for college, she worried about how her mother would cope without her. She knew that she was the only thing her mother had in this world besides the dogs. She just hoped her mother would be okay.

Keep an eye out for the next part! Comments are appreciated!
