Welcome to Part 8 of The Chronicles of the Carr Family. If you are joining us for the first time, I would recommend reading Parts 1-7 or The Carr Recap (which briefly summarizes parts 1-7). Comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated. I apologize for the long delay in getting this part out and I hope to have the next part of The College Years out soon.

Let's get on with the story...

As you'll remember, Tina had just gone to answer the door in the middle of dinner. As she approached the door, she realized that it was a young green woman. When she answered the door, the young woman asked if this was the Carr residence and if she could speak to Trevor. Trevor met the young lady at the street. Within a matter of seconds, the lady had introduced herself as Jordan Lawson. Trevor had never seen this woman before. The only part-aliens he knew in Meadowbrook were his own children and a few other kids.
"I knew your father and came to offer my condolences." Jordan said to him.
"Well, thank you." Trevor replied. "Can I ask you exactly how you knew my father?"
"Of course..." Jordan looked hesitant.
"Well?" Trevor asked, as Jordan stalled for time.
"Well, we weren't close friends or anything. I just knew him from living in the neighborhood." Jordan looked at Trevor with hopeful eyes.
"Oh. Well, from what I understand he was a very respected man." Trevor replied, not completely buying her story.
"He was. Were you close to him?"
"I was when I was a boy, but we had lost touch in the last eighteen years. There were some difference of opinion."
"I'm sorry to hear that." Jordan replied. "I was actually hoping that we could have lunch sometime. Your father gave me something that he wished to be passed on to you."
"I suppose we could get lunch."
"Great! I'll give you my phone number and you can give me a call when you're available."
"I'll do that." Trevor said, as Jordan leaned in to give him a good-bye hug.
"Who was that at the door?" Tina asked, as Trevor joined her in the hot tub.
"It was someone who knew my father." Trevor informed her. "She wants to get lunch sometime - she said she has something for me from my father."
"Are you going to go?"
"It can't hurt, can it?"
"I suppose not."
"You're welcome to come with me." Trevor told Tina.
"I think it's something you should probably do on your own." Tina said, not wanting to get involved where Trevor's father was concerned.
"Okay then." Trevor replied, before thinking about the day before. "You're never going to believe who I ran into at the store the other day."
"Who?"
"My mother. I was walking by the window when I looked in and saw one of the workers helping my mother out. She was buying out all of the clothes we had in stock at the time. She was being her usual bossy self, but I couldn't help wondering why she was in MY store of all places. She went to check out and I headed around to the side, hoping to avoid her until she left..." "I didn't have much luck though. She must have a sixth sense about how to hunt people down. I was talking with some of the workers, when she tapped me on the shoulder and asked if we could speak. The next thing I knew, I was agreeing to keep in touch and she was handing me her new phone number. It turns out that my parents have been living in Meadowbrook for the past few years." "Are you going to keep in touch?" Tina asked when he finished.
"I guess - I mean the children could get to know their grandmother."
"They could. You could call her and invite her over to dinner." Tina suggested.
"I guess so. There's only one major thing we're going to have to figure out how to explain - Evan and Elaine."
"Well, she's either going to have to accept them or not see any of her grandchildren."
Trevor headed inside and got on the phone with his mother. He was dreading the thought of her seeing what he had become. As Tina often told him, he was quite successful and had a lot to be thankful for. He just didn't think his mother would agree when she met Elaine and Evan. Tina stared at her reflection. She knew that she should look her best for Mrs. Carr. Part of the reason Trevor had fallen out of touch with his parents was their disapproval to his marriage to Tina. The two of them had married while they were in the middle of college, later dropping out. Because of this, Mrs. Carr had always seen Tina as the girl that ruined Trevor's plans. Trevor headed to the stove to prepare lobster for his mother's visit. She had agreed to join the family for dinner. Trevor still couldn't believe that Tina was willing to have his mother over. The two of them were sure to be in an argument before the night was over. The doorbell rang and Trevor headed down the walkt o greet his mother. She was looking around the outside and didn' t even notice him coming. As he approached, she reached down and picked a weed from among the flowers. "Mother." Trevor greeted her. "I'm so glad you could join us for dinner."
"Trevor." Maria Carr said, before reaching out to hug her son. "I'm glad to be here."
They stood outside and chatted for a couple of minutes. Maria said a few nice things about the exterior of the house and Trevor was taken aback by her compliments.
"Well, are you going to make me stand outside and eat or are we going to have dinner?" Maria asked Trevor.
"Well, before we go inside, there's something I need to talk to you about..."
Maria turned and headed inside before Trevor got a chance to tell her about Evan and Elaine. His only option was to follow his mother inside and hope for the best. After reintroducing his mother to Tina, he attempted once more to talk to his mother about her unusual grandchildren. Suddenly, his mother's attention was grabbed by something else. He turned around and saw Elaine wobbling towards his mother. Her eyes lit up with delight and she bent down to talk with Elaine. Elaine was thrilled with the attention, while Tina and Trevor watched in surprise. After meeting all of the children, Mrs. Carr sat down to dinner with Tina and Trevor. The children had wanted to eat inside, while Mrs. Carr wanted to eat outside. In no time flat, they were on the subject of grandchildren. Mrs. Carr could not believe that Trevor and Tina now had six children, one of which was in college. Mrs. Carr could still remember the time when Trevor was a teenager and said he would never marry or have children. "You know, your brother had two children now and your sister has one," Mrs. Carr told Trevor.
"I didn't know that Tabitha was married." Trevor started. "I never got an invitation to the wedding."
"Oh. Well, she isn't exactly married. She has someone living with her, but they haven't quite figured out yet if it's legal for them to wed. I'm sure you'll meet the love of her life soon enough though." Mrs. Carr commented. Before Trevor had time to ponder this, Mrs. Carr had moved onto another topic.
"I noticed that the rumors were true." Mrs. Carr started.
"What rumors?" Trevor asked.
"The ones about you having a brush with aliens. I can see from Elaine and Evan that it's true." Mrs. Carr said.
"I knew you'd have a problem with that. Is that the only reason you came to dinner? To confirm rumors?" Trevor was beginning to get angry.
"Partially yes. Now that I see that it's true, I need your help with something. There's something I need you to help me with." Mrs. Carr.
"Well, I don't really feel like doing you any favors, mother." Trevor told his mother before storming away from the dinner.
"Do you think he's mad at me?" Maria asked Tina.
"I'm sure he'll be okay." Tina lied.
"There is something important I need his help with. It involves his brother." Maria told Tina as she prepared to leave.
"I'm not so sure Trevor wants to help you." Tina replied.
"He wouldn't really be helping me much. He would be helping Travis a lot though." Maria told her. "Will you at least try to talk to him?"
"I can try to talk to him, but I don't know that it will get me anywhere." Tina told Maria, before sending her on her way. Tina could not believe that she had just agreed to help the woman who hated her. Things were definitely about to get rocky with Mrs. Carr now in the picture.
