Welcome to Part 3 of The College Years. If you haven't read the first two parts, I would recommend doing so now. Otherwise, let's get on with the story... The gang finished out their freshman year at Simford Hall and had a tearful goodbye. Everyone was doing their own things for the summer and it was up in the air if they would see each other the following year. Amy was moving in with her boyfriend, while others were debating whether or not to live in the dorms. Mindy spent the summer "babysitting" for Graham and lounging around her family's mansion.
* * *
Carter spent the summer on a road trip with his older brother. His brother got married at the end of summer and it was their last free summer together.
* * *
Drew and Todd vacationed over the course of the summer. They took a road trip through SimWorld, seeing all of the highlights, including Pleasantview and Strangeville.
* * *
Jade spent the summer looking for her birth mother. Even though she had hired a private detective to help out, she seemed to be getting no where in her search.
* * *
Jimmy and Abbey spent the summer volunteering at a children's camp. They enjoyed getting to do some charity and spending the summer together. They were closer than ever.
* * *
The gang (minus Amy) were delighted to find out that they had all gotten into Carter Place, an upper classman dormitory, for their sophomore year. It looked like their college adventure together wasn't quite over yet. At the end of last school year, Jade had finally gotten up the nerve to let Todd back into her life. It hurt her now to know that he had refused this opportunity. Shortly after she kissed him, he pulled away and told her that he was going to need more time - they both needed to be certain that it was what they wanted. Living in the same dorm as him was making it hard to be apart. She was continuing her search for her mother in hopes of finding out something about her past. She felt it important to know why her mother left her father so many years ago. It seemed to be the missing puzzle piece that would make everything come together.

Jimmy invited Abbey on a date and told her to wear her finest clothing. He was disapointed to find out that his reservation at a local restaurant had been lost. Abbey suggested that they go to the park and make the most of their date.
"I'm really sorry the reservation was lost. I promise I called." Jimmy said as he bit into a hot dog.
"It's okay, really. I don't need a fancy restaurant to know that you care." Abbey giggled.
"I do care - a lot." Jimmy said.
Abbey suggested the swings and Jimmy offered to push her. In mid-push, he whispered in her ear "I love you" and let her fly. As she flew forward, a smile spread across her face. This had all started out as an attempt to get Drew to notice her and had instead turned into a nice relationship. She could stay in this park forever if they would let her. She returned the gesture and the two spent the rest of their date discovering the many ways that you could have fun in a park. At the end, Abbey proclaimed this to be the best date she'd had so far. Jimmy was glad to hear this.

Carter was enjoying the new things that came with this dorm. It was a bit less boring than Simford Hall and had many things to keep the residents entertained. Todd and Jimmy were playing chess in the garden when Jimmy brought up the subject of Jade.
"So, what's going on between you two?" Jimmy asked.
"Me and who?" Todd returned.
"You and Jade."
"Oh. We're...friends." Todd replied.
"Is that all you want to be?"
"Not exactly. But I need to know that she's sure of us before we give it another try. I don't want a repeat of last time."
"Understandable."

Mindy cornered Drew on the sidewalk as he came back from class.
"How do you approach a tricky topic with your sister?" She asked.
"How am I supposed to know?" He questioned, moving away.
"You're her brother!"
"Well, what have you done? What do you need to talk to her about?" He asked.
"I can't tell you." Mindy replied.
"Then I can't help you." Drew replied, walking away.
Mindy decided to simply take the plunge and fill Jade in on some of the details - but leave out the things involving Graham.
"Jade, I need to talk to you." She said as they sat in the hall.
"About what?" Jade asked.
"Well, I think I might be pregnant." Mindy replied.
"By who?"
"I'm not ready to share." Mindy replied. Jade assumed it must be someone in authority around the college.
"Well, I'll go to the doctor with you if you want." Jade offered.
The two made a trip to the doctor the following week and sure enough, Mindy was pregnant. She tried calling Graham but no one seemed to be able to get ahold of him. He wasn't answering calls from her or his kids. It looked like she was going to have to face this battle alone.
* * *
Jade found herself spending more and more time away from the dorm to simply avoid Todd. It was too hard to be around him because she wanted more. But at the same time, it was too hard to be apart from him. Abbey had decided to join Jade on her latest shopping adventure. They had invited Mindy as well, but she said she wasn't much in the mood for swimsuit shopping. Abbey questioned Jade about the father of Mindy's baby and Jade answered with the truth - that she knew nothing.
* * *
The girls were growing closer each day. Mindy had worried that she would become an outcast among them, but Jade and Abbey were determined to support her. After all, they reasoned, that's what friends do. The guys were becoming good friends as well. They had their differences, but they were willing to put those aside most of the time. The dorm offered many things to keep them entertained and closeknit. Sophomore year was looking up with each and everyday.
* * *
As the end of the first semester got closer, the dorm kicked into overdrive to get their term papers written and to keep their grades up. As Todd worked at his computer, he tried to hear what Jade and Mindy were talking about across the room. Unfortunately, he couldn't hear a thing. "You really should give him a chance." Mindy told Jade.
"I did - he rejected me this time." Jade replied.
"Wow. When did I miss this?" Mindy replied.
"End of last semester."
"He'll come around." Mindy said, looking over at Todd. "He probably just needs time."
"I hope." Jade replied, before returning to her drama report.
Jade finally decided to try to make a small stride towards getting things back on track with Todd and suggested a study group. They spent half of the night laughing and joking like they used to. He was just about to ask her out again when he felt something wet on his head. Drew had set the sprinklers off when he realized that everyone was getting stressed out over school work. Needless to say, everyone got soaked and Drew had quite a few people mad at him. Despite this, they all pitched in to help mop up the mess. The sprinkler shower seemed to have taken the stress off a few backs.

The next morning, Jimmy decided to ask Carter for some advice during their study session.
"Do you think that it would be too soon to propose?" Jimmy asked.
"To Abbey?" Carter questioned.
"No, to you." Jimmy said deadpanned. "Of course to Abbey."
"If you love her and she loves you, then no. Just wait on the marriage part until you're out of here." Carter said, gesturing around.
"Thanks."

Later that evening, Jimmy found Abbey in the living room jumping on the couch. After joining her for a bit, he asked if they could talk. They both got off the couch and he moved towards her. Before she could comprehend what was happening, Jimmy was down on one knee in front of her. Her heart was pounding so fast that she barely heard what he was saying. He pulled a black box from behind his back a few minutes later and opened it to reveal a diamond. She couldn't believe it - he was proposing! She quickly accepted his proposal and leaped into his arms. This was the best day of her life (so far).
* * *
Abbey later found Jade to share her good news. Jade congratulated her.
"I was also thinking that we should do something for Jade. Something to help out." Abbey continued after Jade congratulated her.
"Like what? Throw a baby shower?" Jade asked.
"Yeah. Great idea. Do you think she'd like that?" Abbey asked.
"Well, I suppose it wouldn't hurt anything." Jade replied.
* * *
Carter found Drew studying in the study room and sat down to join him.
"Getting some last minute work done?" Carter asked.
"No, not really." Drew replied, looking up. "I'm actually making a pro/con list of reasons to try to get Abbey back."
"Well, if you're going for the pros, then you're going to want to move fast." Carter replied.
"What do you mean?" Drew asked, looking up from his list.
"Well, I have it on good authority that someone might be proposing very soon." Carter said before opening his book to finish his assignment.
