Amy was beginning to be really bothered by Carter. He was showing up everywhere next to her. It wasn't that she didn't find him attractive - of course she did. She just didn't want him getting the wrong idea. She still had a boyfriend and didn't want anything to mess that up - even Carter. Abbey, on the other hand, was enjoying the extra attention she was getting from Jimmy Hines. She still found Drew attractive but she was smart enough to know that things had hit a dead end in that department. Why pine over the past when the future could be waiting for you? "Abbey - there's something I've been wanting to ask you." Jimmy began.
"What?" Abbey suspected there was a date invitation to follow.
"Would you - would you want to help me with my term paper?" Jimmy asked, chickening out. He still wasn't sure how he was supposed to compete with Drew.
"Of course." Abbey replied, dismayed.
Ever since breaking things off with Todd, Jade had been throwing all of her energies into her studies. It wasn't that she didn't love Todd - she knew that was certain. And she was pretty sure that he loved her too. Love seemed to be the problem in the complicated mess - it never got anyone anywhere. Her father had been abandoned twice by people he loved and Jade was determined to protect herself. Carter thought that he knew the perfect way for Todd to get over Jade.
"You should start dating." He told him.
"Dating? Why? I'm in love with Jade."
"Of course you are. And she might be in love with you. But she needs a wake-up call. Something to tell her that she's lost you."
"And where am I supposed to find a date?"
"Well, you could get to know a person the old fashioned way ....or...I've got an idea!" Carter ran inside to use the phone.
A few minutes later, the matchmaker showed up. Todd wasn't certain about this - it seemed desperate. Carter told him that he would go on a blind date too. That should take the stress off. It was a good thing that Carter came on the date with Todd. The girls left halfway through the meal to powder their noses and never returned. Todd suspected that they had run off with some guys they had been staring at all night. Todd wasn't too disappointed about the whole thing. Since the divorce, Graham had started coming by the dorm more and more to visit his eldest children. The house seemed empty, despite the twin toddlers and infant that he shared it with. Jade hugged her father tightly and offered her condolences about the divorce. They hadn't seen Graham since the divorce took place and Jade wanted him to know that he had a support system here. Carter found Amy after she had returned from class. He knew he was taking a chance but he also knew that if he didn't kiss her now, he probably never would. She had decided to move out of the dorms next year. The rest of them would be finding a new dorm to live in together. Amy pulled back and slapped Carter hard.
"Don't you realize I have a boyfriend?" Amy shouted before turning away. The kiss had felt so right, but she knew it was wrong. Carter just stared after her in shock.
Jade had been babysitting for Graham an awful lot lately but she knew that this would be hard with her new class schedule. She decided to introduce him to Mindy. Graham immediately liked her and asked her if she'd like to babysit occassionally. Mindy was more than thrilled - she needed all the extra money she could get. As Graham walked away, Mindy turned to watch him go. She found him staring back at her. She knew it was wrong, but there was something about Graham that caught her eye. Jimmy found Abbey gazing at the stars and asked to speak with her. Much to her surprise, he asked her if she wanted to go on a date - now. She replied yes. He had hoped she would say yes and rented a horse and carriage for the occassion. He told her that she could change out of her pj's later and they rode down the road to the coffee house. Drew was trying desperately to help Todd as well. He hated seeing his friend so upset. His solution was joining a Greek house. Of course this meant rush, which included streaking around for about an hour. It would be worth it if he got into the fraternity though. Jade immediately yelled at Drew when he had his clothes back on. She could not believe how foolish her brother was willing to be. Just to get into a fraternity! All of Drew's streaking paid off and he was soon a full fledged member of the fraternity. Now all he had left to do was convince the guys to let Todd join. It took a little bit of work but the guys agreed to let Todd in. They came to welcome him just as he was attempting to serenade Jade. He hadn't meant to get to this point. He knew everyone would think he was an idiot. One minute he was talking to Jade and the next he was down on one knee professing his love for her. He also proposed then and there but decided he should save that for a more private moment. To his dismay, Jade told him to stop making a fool out of himself. And then walked away. Jimmy and Abbey were getting along famously. He had bought her a cup of coffee and the two were sharing an intellectual moment by the fire place. Abbey couldn't believe how comfortable she felt with Jimmy. So comfortable that she let things get carried away in public. She wasn't normally one for PDA but this seemed to be an exception. The night led to lots of wild things - including her first try at woohoo. The rest of the dorm was starting to notice how close Jimmy and Abbey had become. As much as Abbey wished for it to affect Drew, he remained unphased. She was living on Cloud 9 for now. With everyone preoccupied in the dorm, Jade was willing to confide in anyone - even a stray.
"It's not that I don't love him. It's just that I'm afraid to be with him. It seems that commitment doesn't get anyone anywhere and I'm not quite ready to be put through what my dad has gone through. Or to put him through that. Maybe I should try to find my real mother. She might be able to qualm some of these fears. If only I knew why she left." Jade told her new friend.
Carter was slowly turning his attention away from Amy and towards Mindy. He had noticed Mindy from the start but he didn't think that she would notice him in return. They were getting along great as friends but he wasn't sure it would develop into anything more. She seemed to have taken a liking to someone else... Mindy still wasn't sure what it was about Graham that drew her in. She knew that he was Jade's father and completely off limits but that didn't stop the flirting from coming. She knew she needed to end this fast - before things got started. Jade was spending more and more time to herself thinking about things. She had started looking for her mother but hadn't been successful so far. With exams coming up, she was going to have to postpone the search. Drew and Todd weren't sure how they had gotten talked into yoga lessons. Jade had suggested it and the next thing that they knew, they had their feet over their heads. Drew was surpised at how calming the exercises were. Todd was just amazed at how flexible Jade was. The nanny cancelled at the last minute and Graham called the dorm to try to get Jade to cover. Mindy answered the phone and told him that Jade was in class. She couldn't find Drew anywhere around. She offered to sit instead. Graham came home from work to find Mindy watching television and the children tucked in for nap. Without thinking, Graham made a move and before the two of them knew it, they were making out on the couch. The action moved upstairs after dinner and Mindy allowed her body to give into Graham's. All of the pieces seemed to be fitting together in this moment. Mindy stayed curled up to Graham for half of the night. She wished that this moment never had to end. But it did - she had to get back to the dorm before someone began to wonder about her. She had just betrayed her friend in the worst way possible. Jade had finally made up her mind. She was going to let Todd back into her life. She was still determined to find her mother but she knew that somehow she belonged with Todd. She took him by surprise and leaped into his arms. "What was that for?" Todd asked.
"That was for nothing." Jade replied.
"Then why'd you do it?"
"Because I wanted to tell you something."
"What?"
"This." Jade said as her mouth met his in a passionate kiss.
