Part #9 "Big Banquet"
______________________________________________________
Matt's disabilities are LOOSELY based on my own real life physical disabilities. Special thanks goes to RhondaLee. She is the mother of twin boys, one of whom just happens to have Cerebral Palsy. Just as Matt's disabilities are loosely based on myself but not his life...........the same is true for Corwin; sim Corwin is loosely based on the real life son of RhondaLee however as with myself what happens to these sims is NOT necesarily what has happened to us.

Sorry for the delay between chapter #8 & #9 Please drop a line or an emotiocon (faces) so now if my stories are liked or not......TY;) Hope you enjoy.

Jenny: Hmmmm? What's this? Jenny: Oh boy! Jenny: Hey Matt?!?!? Jenny: Guess what we got invited to an award ceramony.
Matt: Really? What kind? For what?
Jenny: Slow down & I can tell you. Your friend......the one with the gift shop?
Matt: What about him?
Jenny: He's getting an award.
Matt: Cool! I think he deserves some recognition for his business. It's a great place. (A few weeks later)
Miss Banquet: Our father started the Banquet Foundation to honor those businessmen who put their fellow sim above all else........even their bottom line. This years recipient is none other than Benjamen Fruegal!
Miss Banquet: Give a round of applause ladies and gentlemen.
Ben: Did you hear that Corwin? I'm the winner.
Corwin: Yeah.......I......did.
Miss Banquet:Ben Fruegal ladies and gentlemen. Miss Banquet: The mic is all yours.
Ben: Thank you.
Ben: Wow this is a great honor. I had no idea that I'd have any type of reward.......aside from bringing a smile to someone's face. I'd like to tell you all a little story......a story about a very special little boy. Ben: A few years ago I decided to volunteer in the Big Sims program. It was started to help mentor young sims. I put in my application and got a very sweet boy named Corwin. He was a little shy and so his Mom hoped that going out and having fun with someone other than family would be good for him. It turned out to be good for me as well. Ben: Corwin's smile could melt the polar ice-capps. We had loads of fun listening to music. Corwin is a big music lover. Ben: I had had a wonderful day planned. Only I had forgotten all about the store having stairs.........and a narrow doorway. Ben: It nearly broke my heart........I'd promised to buy him a kite......not sad eyes. Ben: Those eyes had been so happy when we were talking about all the fun we would have. I wanted to do something! I needed to do something! That day I vowed that no man, woman, or child would have to turn around and go home just because they needed to use a wheelchair. Ben: We wound up going to the movies instead, we still had fun...........but that wasn't the point.

(fade from talking about to being there)
Ben: Corwin?
Corwin: Yeah?
Ben: Hey big guy.......I am so sorry that our day was ruined.
Corwn:That's........OK............I had..........fun.........anyway.
Corwin: Mama. I.......had fun..........with my..........new friend.
Rhonda: Oh I'm happy to hear that honey.
Ben: I'm sorry. Today was kinda spoiled.
Rhonda: Oh? He sure looks happy.
Ben: That's just cuz he's such a trooper. I was planning to take him to a toy store and pick out a kite..........then go to the park and fly it. When we got to the toy store......it had stairs. I thought about trying to pull him up the stairs...........but his wheelchair was still to wide for that narrow door. So it wouldn't have been possible even if I could get him up those stairs. So we just settled for going to the movies. Oh.......um........I kinda bought him the BIG tub of popcorn. So if his dinner is spoiled that would be my fault.
Rhonda: Oh that's OK. Sounds like you guys had a lot of fun.
Corwin: We..........had..........a lot of ..............fun.
Ben: We sure did. I can't wait to take him on an outing again.
(Back to speech)
I decided that day that I would make a business that was open to EVERYONE! A business wouldn't post a sign banning disabled people from going to their store..........but they may as well.
Bigger aisles means more costumers........not just the disabled ones.......but just in general. I insist on my store being kept free of any merchandise or debris on the floor..........I call it good business.
I don't just have people in wheelchairs come in to my store; it's their family & friends as well. I'm not special. I'm just a business owner who did the right thing. It's just a shame that my business practices are not considered the norm.
Ben: I'd like to introduce the one who is special and deserves a big round of applause. Ladies and gentlemen..........I'm proud to introduce my good buddy Corwin. Come up here and say hi to everyone for me. Ben: I'm going to hand the mic over to the one who inspired me that day...........and has continued to inspire me with his bright smile and happy go lucky personality.
(HUGE applause)
Corwin: Hi
Crowd: Hi Corwin
Corwin: He he he he he
Ben: Since it was that big smile that melted my heart and made me want to make a change...........I named my store "Corwin's Card and Gift" after my dear friend Corwin.
Miss Banquet(the other sister): As an added bonus...........fur showing us all the art of humanity............the Banquet Foundation will be making a sizeable donation to UCP(United Cerebral Palsy foundation it's a real group who can always use a donation) as well as to the Sims for the End of Central Nervous System Injury Foundation(made up). Matt: Wow that was great. I'm happy to see he got some recognition.
Jenny: He certainly does. It was nice being able to shop together.
Matt: Yeah it was nice wasn't it?
Jenny: Maybe some day we'll be going there...........to pick out toys for our own children.
Matt: Some day we will do that...........and like everything else we'll do it together.

Great story! \:wub\: Verry sweet idea off Ben to take te little boy for a day out!! I like that kind off guy! but.. sadly enough, how true is this story about the stairs! It must be forbidden, everyone should enter the toy shops, the restaurants or familyparks whitout problems. In my town they realised that, and for several years ago, they did remove stairs etc, etc. It's not a luxury, we think it's normal. That's wat it is, and what it has to be. Oh, my what a speech!\:o The Dirtdeviil did it again.\:D
