Welcome back to the Applewind Legacy! If you haven't read any of what I've written so far, I'd suggest you go back and read the first three parts of the legacy and/or Aurelie's college years (four parts)
Thanks to the CC makers and those who take the time to leave encouraging comments on my page. On with the show!

SO sorry about the insanely long wait on this one. I've been drowning in school work, and I just got BV, and, well, things aren't quite sane at my house.

SO sorry about the insanely long wait on this one. I've been drowning in school work, and I just got BV, and, well, things aren't quite sane at my house.
Now that I was married, I decided it was time to start myself on a career track. I had always admired Dad in his work. I still remember being five and committing myself to the medical path. I had my degrees from college, and I thought it was time to get started. I began to look for openings. unfortunetely, there weren't any up yet. Oh well, I could wait. It was Harmony's last morning with us. In under an hour, she would be headed off to college. We attempted to have a lighthearted conversation at the breakfast table. I have to admire Harmony's acting skills. She was the most upset of all of us, yet she managed to be the most upbeat. But we couldn't put it off for any longer. Harmony called a taxi, and we all waved goodbye. I walked her out to the curb. As she shut the door, I managed a small "I love you". The engine revved, and she was gone.

The family fell into a sort of twilight zone life. We all went about our business, trying to adapt to life without Harmony there.
Oh, not the most flattering photo.

Anyway, it does get the point across. I had been feeling quite ill, and I was late. I took it upon myself to phone the doctor and schedule an appointment. I also decided not to tell Connor until I was sure.
It didn't take long for the doctor to call me back. There was a moment of silence after I asked for the results.

"Congratulations, Mrs. Applewind! You're pregnant!"
I gasped, and tears sprung to my eyes unannounced.
"But wait, that's not all."
I paused, and my heart lept to my throat. In that small second, I sent a desprete prayer that nothing was wrong with the baby.
"I guess I should say, double congratulations. You are not going to have just one baby, but TWO!"
My hand started to shake and spots danced before my eyes.
"Well, thanks, doc. That's great news!" I managed to choke out, before dropping the phone and running to find Connor.
He was out front.
As I approached, he took inventory of my expression.
"What's troubling my beauty?" He asked playfully.
I grinned. My cheeks felt as if they could not stretch far enough to show my joy.
"Guess what?" I paused, trying to let the tension grow, but I couldn't hold it in.
"I'm pregnant!" I squealed loudly.
Connor's face registered shock for only a minute before he swept me up into his arms.
"Oh, baby, that's great news!"
He held me for a minute before setting me down. "When did you find out?" He asked breathlessly.
"Just now. Hey, I'm not finished." He cocked his head at me, puzzled. I could see the thoughts that I had running across his face.
"Don't worry, nothing's wrong. But, we are having twins!"
This was his exact face. He hand jumped to his heart and his eyes grew wide.
"Are you kidding?" He asked weakly, his knees sinking.
"Nope!" I could feel my whole body shaking.
He gulped, fighting to get a grip on his emotions. His eyes watered, but he took me in his arms.
"Baby, I can't wait." He whispered in my ear.
I finally got up the courage to venture into the nursery my parents set up. I was worried a little, I hoped it wasn't too cheesy or old-fashioned. When I entered, the sight before me made me laugh out loud.
"Connor! Come up here!" I shouted.
As he came in, he saw me doubled over in laughter. Between gasps of air and the tears streaming down my face, I managed to spit out : "There's........only one........crib!"
Connor began to smile as he looked around. He chewed on his lip before joining me in my giggles. This grew to full blown guffaws. All of our emotions pent up after finding out about the twins came out in this way.
Connor began to tickle me.
"I guess we'll have to fix that! Hear that babies? Mommy and I are going to fix it!"
Our laughter continued for almost half an hour. When everyone else came to see what all the fuss was about, we told them that I was pregnant. There was laughter, tears and dancing. Yes, dancing, care of Simon and Mom.
It didn't take long for me to start to show. I knew I would end up being huge. The excitement danced all through my body. Simon was also enraptured with my ever growing stomach. He was always coming up and talking to my belly, making faces and talking baby talk. It was quite amusing actually. "Wow, I've definetely got babies on the brain." Connor said one day as we watched the clouds through the branches of our large willow tree. "Why's that?" I said through a yawn. Pregnancy was really kicking in.
"Everyting looks like cribs, bear, diapers, or little shoes." We shared a laugh over that before lapsing into silence once more. Connor sighed heavily.
"What's up?" I asked. Connor waited for a minute before answering.
"I'm not sure I'm ready for this. Parenthood, I mean. How are we supposed to know how to be parents?" I chewed on that for a minute.
"I think it's a natural thing. It's in our blood. And anyway, my parents will be around to help us when things get tough."
That seemed to settle his mind, and we switched to the topic of baby names.
In the final months, I was so tired, I could barely be up for three hours before needing a nap. I heard Mom and Connor discussing it the one day when they thought I was asleep.
Connor's worried voice drifted over me. "Is this normal? Should she be so tired? Seems like all she does is sleep!"
Mom's encouraging voice entered my fog of drowsiness. "Yes, it's normal. I remember being tired. Not this tired, but then, I never had twins.'
I couldn't wait any longer. Sleep took control.
I did manage to be awake for a couple hours while Harmony visited. She greeted me with a hug, which was fairly awkward around my large stomach. "You know sis, you look great. The funny thing is, I never remember Mom being that big when she was pregnant with Simon. But then, I was fairly young."
I laughed and said, "You're right. Mom never was this big, because she never had two babies in there!"
"Really!? Oh my gosh! You're having twins!? I can't believe it! Wait, you're kidding aren't you. No, you're not! WOW!"
Her tirade continued before I broke it off. "Yes, I'm actally having twins. Should only be a month or so before they're born."
"You're going to be a first-time and second-time aunt all in one night!" I said, tickling her. In fact, it was only two weeks before the pains attacked me. All of Mom's advice went flying out the window. The contractions happened so fast, there was no time to get to the hospital, or even my bedroom. The twins were going to be born right here in the kitchen.
"CONNOR!" I screamed. He had just gotten in the shower, but I needed him now!
I could hear pounding upstairs. Simon and Mom were the first to arrive. Simon had a fit while Mom tried to coach me through it. My screams almost drowned out her words. The first, a girl, was born in minutes. I held her up, laughing through my tears and pain. "Mia," I whispered. I handed her to "Uncle Simon" as Connor had yet to get down here. The pains were still fast and furious, and I knew I wasn't done. The second, Matt, was born right after. I took one look at him and could see the instant resemblance to me and Connor. He was a pefect match. Connor finally arrived on scene. Simon willingly handed Mia over. I think the experience tramatized him a little.
I smiled at him, and Matt observed him with wide eyes. Both Connor and I wore huge grins and wet cheeks.
This is Matt. He has my skintone and eyes, and his daddy's hair. And Mia, with my hair and Connor's eyes and skin. I have yet to see who has my nose. Dad also got his time with the babies. He cradled Mia for ages. I think he is incredilby proud to be a grandad. "Hey, Mom, I think Matt want to say hi." I said quietly. Mom nodded silently. Mom held Matt with reverance. I knew she felt the same way as Dad about being a grandparent. Connor and I took the babies up to sleep soon after. The excitment was wearing off, leaving only exhaustion. After the kids were tucked in, I went up to Connor. "We have beautiful children." I said.
"Yes, beautiful. Just like you." He said as his mouth closed over mine.
The next year was filled with great joy of our kids. Time flew by, measured only by diapers, bottles and hours of sleep. I couldn't have been happier. Soon it was time for the twins to become toddlers. Mia went first. Oh, and by the way, that's Simon's friend in the background. I soon followed with Matt. The explosion of confetti covers the look on his face, but you should have seen it. Complete amazment is the only way I can think of to describe it. After a small makeover, this is matt. Adorable. AND, he doesn't have my nose! He began to get cranky, so I took him upstairs and tucked him in. And here's Mia after her makeover. Another major cutie. She's quite the drama queen. A bit bossy, but lovely all the same. Both toddlers were both quite enraptured by their toys. They spend hours on it, fooling around and trading between them. The next months were filled with teaching. Talking, walking, and the potty duties were split up among us. Connor was the one to finally get Matt to sit on the potty and go. For some reason, he'd never do it for me. Mom was really helpful through this. Mia really took to her, and Mom knew how to reach her. This gave me the opportunity to crash on the couch! Thanks for reading this part! I hope it wasn't rushed, considering I wrote it in one night! ;-)

Good to have that done though. No promises on the next part. To be honest, I'm getting a little tired of it. If there's anyone out here who actually enjoys reading this, let me know, I need the encouragment. I like writing, but this seems to go really slow.

Hehe, I like this shot. Ah, having twins. Double hunger, double diapers, and double screaming. I remember when my sisters were young. I was seven when the twin girls in my family were born. There was A LOT of screaming. ;-)
