"Rose, i'm so glad to see you, I hope you had a good journey?"
Rose thanked him for his kindness and hoped he would be pleased with her work.
"I'm sure I will be now let me show you around"
Rose was impressed with the large house, "It must cost a fortune to keep", she thought. "Let me show your room" Edward said.
Rose took one look and her heart sank, "This is my room?, I don't understand?"
Edward started to laugh, a laugh that made her blood run cold, "You turned me down do you think i'm going to forgive and forget, OH NO! you are here to work and work you shall"
Rose started to cry.
"Save your tears for someone who cares, you have five minites to change into your uniform and come down stairs"
Edward turned towards the stairs then stopped and looked at her "You will marry me, I always get what I want". Rose changed and turned to look at her room, it was dirty and dingy.
So this is were the srevants had to sleep, she felt sorry for them.
Taking a deep breath she headed for the stairs.
Her life became one of chores and demands.
The house took alot of cleaning and Edward was not the tidyest person. in fact he was a slob who expected everyone to run around after him,
Edward paid off the rest of the staff and told Rose she was to do all the work from now on.
Run his bath, cook, wash his clothes, clean up after him, "He didn't need a maid, he needed a mother" she thought.
His bell would ring every five minites day and night either because he was hungry or thirsty or he wanted something and couldn't be bothered to get it himself. And still the dreams haunted her.
One day Rose was hanging out the washing when a man appered.
"Girl, come here, I wish to see your Master, were will I find him?"
Just as Rose was about to show him, Edward shouted, "Allen, how good to see you old boy"
Rose stood quietly and watched the two men chat and share jokes.
"Look come to my study, we can talk there"
He turned to Rose, "One more for dinner and we are not to be disturbed...understand".
Rose nodded.
"What a horrible man, who does he think he is calling me girl" she muttered under her breath. A few weeks later at the Swansons, Charles was visited by Justin.
"I would like to invite you all to dinner tomorrow night at the castle?"
Charles politly declined the offer, Justin sensed something was wrong, "Come Charles what on earth is the matter man? Maybe I can help!'
Charles explained about thier lack of money and that Rose had gone to work for Edward at his massion, "Since she has left I have not seen or heard from her or Edward, but I have heard rumours that Edward has dismissed all his staff and that Rose is the only one left, I am truly worried about her".
Charles had been told by Lucy about Edwards proposal and how Rose had turned him down, "You don't think that he holds a grudge?" he asked Justin.
Justin shook his head, "Damn that man" he thought, "This throws my plans" Justin returned home.
He had to find out what was going on.
The prophecy was at risk of failing, and what of Rose.....
He had an idea. Justin invited Miles and Lucy over the following evening and when Lucy went to powder her nose Justin told Miles of his plan.
"So what do you think?"
"Good idea, money will always get Edward's attention", replied Miles.
"So you want to come?" Justin asked.
"Of coarse" was the reply. The following week Edward called Rose to his study.
"Justin is to come over for dinner tonight, you are to do your duties and to serve dinner, you will speak when spoken too and are not to discuse your living here or Mr Garret.....Do you understand?"
"Oh and speaking of Mr Garret, he is expected this afternoon, kindly show him straight here".
"Yes Edward" Rose answered not really listening.
Rose went to her room, her mind was spinning at the news.
"Justin to come here!" the thought alone sent shivers down her spine, was it fear or something else. A few hours later Rose showed Mr Garret to Edwards study.
He truly was a horrid man, fat with one of those handlebar mustaches, Rose got the impression he was not from thier side of the tracks, so why was Edward friends with him. Justin arrived to discuse a buisness deal, Edward jumped at the chance.
Rose was surprised to find Miles with him and after some pleasentries they sat down for dinner.
"Are you not joining us Rose?" asked Miles.
"No, no thank you, I have already eaten but please don't let me stop you"
Miles looked at Edward with a questioning look on his face but Edward pretended not to see it.
"Now then about this deal?", Edward asked.
They started to talk buisness. Later after the men finished dinner, Edward left the room to get some champagne to celerbrate their joint venture.
Justin sought out Rose and found here in the kitchen, "That was a delicious meal Rose, thank you".
"I'm glad you enjoyed it" she replied without turning, scared to look at him.
"Rose look at me!" Justin demanded.
Rose turned.
Justin stepped closer, "Are you sure you are alright?" Rose looked down at the floor and whispered that she was fine.
"If you are sure?" Justin said cupping her face in his hand and tilting it up to meet his.
He looked into her eyes and saw tears forming, "What the...!" he thought, quickly scanning her mind, "damn that man!".
"Roselynd...." he murmered in a hoarse voice.
"Please don't!" Rose's voice brought him back and he found he was still holding her, he took a deep breath, she smelled of Carbolic soap with a hint of Honeysuckles.
Quickly letting go he made his excuses and went to find the other's. Justin had left late and had just managed a quick bite before heading home.
Rose's face flashed in front of him, what was wrong with him, that moment in the kitchen he was about to kiss her....What was he doing? what effect was she having on him?
"I MUST fullfill the prophacy" but he didn't sound very convincing.
She looked tired, Edward was making sure she worked hard.
He sat quietly, searching for her..... She was ready for bed but she didn't get in.
"He reached out and caressed her cheek, he called her.....
"Roselynd......" Rose had finely managed to go to her room.
Now she sat on her bed, she should really get some sleep but she sat waiting for Edwards bell.
She sat, not moving, not thinking, just waiting.
Something brushed her cheek, in her foggy mind she paid no attention...
"Roselynd....Lie down, close your eyes"
Rose obeyed the voice in her head and lay down closeing her eyes.
"Sleep Roselynd, sleep" Rose stood next to a grave, someone was with her.
"Roselynd!".....Roselynd!, come to me... the voice said.
"Please?, tell me who you are?, what do you want?.
"You!" the voice replied, "YOU"
Justin paced the floor, images of Rose flashed in his mind, Why?
He thought of the prophacy,
......TO GAIN ULTIMATE POWER......
........LOOK FOR THE ROSE......
"I must continue, it is the only way, but....."
He stopped and looked out the window, dawn was not far away.
Sighing, he turned to a small staircase that led to a dark chamber.
The following morning Rose was in Edwards room tidying up.
As she made the bed her foot kicked something underneath, she looked down to find more of his clothes, "Untidy man" she mumbled as she bent to pick them up.
She spotted something else and lying on the floor she took a peek.
MONEY! and lots of it, "Why has Edward got money hidden there" she asked herself.
Mr Garret was spending more and more time with Edward.
The two of them would shut themselves away in the study, Rose was not to disturb them.
Ocaisionaly Rose would pass but she heard nothing but low mumbling.
Rose stood at the mirror fixing her hair.
She had been in Edwards room again and had a quick peek under the bed, the money was gone.
Money under the bed, Mr Garret visits, Money no longer under bed!, "Is Edward being blackmailed and if so why?", she asked her reflection
Checking herself in the mirror she flinched at the dark circles under her eyes the makeup no longer hideing them.
Time passed and Rose's life became more and more confined, she rarely left the house and never had visitors, Edward forbayed it.
One afternoon Rose had just finished in the vegetable garden and was heading back to the house when she heard a voice...,
"Rose!, how are you?, I was passing and thought I would call in"
"Lucy!, I heard you were expecting, I'm sorry I never came to see you", she said patting Lucy's stomack, Goodness look at how big you have got"
Lucy laughed, "Just a few more weeks, thank goodness, Miles keeps fussing like an old hen".
Lucy looked at Rose her face changing to concern, "What's going on Rose?, no one has seen you since you started working here, are you alright?".
Rose looked around, Edward was in town but he could come back at any moment, "I'm fine Lucy don't fuss, there is just so much to do, looking after this big house is hard work".
"Now I don't belive that for a moment?, You haven't even seen your Father or Andrew in all this time" Lucy looked around, "I take it Edward is out or he would be here by now to stop me from talking to you", she took a deep breath, Rose tell me whats going on?.. please!" Rose stepped forward and whispered, "somethings not right.....?", she saw Edward standing at the window, she stopped, "Look you better go, Edward is back and I need to go in, Goodbye Lucy, take good care of Miles and the baby".
Lucy watched her go in, threw a dirty look at Edward then turned and headed home. Edward watched from the window, "What had she said?", he wonderd, she obviosly said something by the way Lucy had looked at him.."Rose, can you come in here for a moment!"
Rose stepped into the living room.
"What was she doing her?, who said she can come round here snooping? and WHAT did you tell her?"
"Please Edward, she was just passing and saw me in the garden, we just talked about the baby, thats all". "LIER!" Edward screemed at her, "You were talking about me......"
"Please Edward I never told Lucy anything"
"I don't belive you, just remember my dear if it wasn't for my help you would all be out on the street".
"I know, my family thanks you for your help", Rose said meakly.
"I hope you didn't mention a certain person?"
"No of course not"
"It would not be a good idea Rose"
Late one summer evening Edward came home from the gentlemens club.
What he had heard today would work to his advantage.
"I look forward to giving Rose the news", he smiled at the thought.
Edward walked into the living room and called Rose.......
I am affraid I have some distressing news for you, Your Father was killed yesterday.
Rose's hands flew to her face in shock, 'How?"
"He was in the garden and was struck by a freak lightning bolt"
Rose gave a strangled scream, "Father!"
"It was quick and he wouldn't have felt much" "FATHER!" Rose screamed in horror.
"Calm down" Edward demanded.
"I must go to Andrew".
"Of coarse, of coarse we shall both go".
Rose broke down.
Edward took his chance, "Look iv'e been thinking, Andrew has a life of his own to lead, do you expect him to look after you as well. Both of you are broke and Andrew needs any money he earns to look after himself". "My marraige offer still stands".
Rose looked at him.
Edward jumped in, "Well it would make sense, I need someone to look after me and you need a home and security".
Rose wasn't thinking straight, still realing from the shock.
"Yes, I will marry you" Rose replied.
"Good, after the funeral I will make the arrangements, as soon as possible I think" Edward was delighted his idea worked.
As Rose left to get ready to go to Andrew she never saw Edward smiling to himself in the mirror "I told you I would marry you, I always get what I want", rubbing his hands with glee. Rose sat in the garden, "Father gone, how I wish I could have seen him"
So wrapped up in her thoughts that she didn't see Justin.
"Rose!".
Rose jumped at the sound of his voice, "I......I......Justin I never heard you comeing"
"I'm sorry about you Father, he was a good man" "Yes he was, I shall miss him"
"And what about you, what wil you do now that he has gone, you don't have to stay here anymore?"
Rose lowered her head, "I have agreed to marry Edward" she whispered in a voice that didn't sound like hers.
"You what!', Justin couldn't belive what he was hearing, "Tell me you havn't" he demanded through clenched teeth.
"I have no choice, with Father gone the house will be sold to pay off any depts, Andrew will have enough problems looking after himself, Edward offered me security, what can I do?",
Justin grabed her, "Roselynd".... He pulled her close and kissed her.
The only witness was the stars and they kept silent. Justin stood in his chamber staring at the page in the book, he had read it so often he knew it by heart.

TO GAIN ULTIMATE POWER,
YOU MUST FIND THE KEY.
LOOK FOR THE ROSE........ "Roselynd!", he thought of the kiss, "The prophecy........"
"WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME?", he yelled.
Silence..
"I must follow the prophecy, I must win", he cried.
But something told him it was a battle he could loose.
He closed his eyes,
and waited...........................
