John has just moved into Hampshire, a very run down part of town. John Smith has no family as he has just come out of Prison and is trying to make a fresh start. However Lilly Do A local does not seem impressed about him moving into the old gas station. Can he really prove he is not all that bad? And will Hampshire eventually once again be the town it deserves to be? After my confrontation with Lilly Do, I decided that there was not much more i could do today, the sun had set and the place was dark and eerie. I decided to head up to the not so comfortable matress on the pipes upstairs. I admit im not usually one for late night snacks, But since i am now allowed that pleasure, i decided to head downstairs in my PJs and make myself a snack... After eating i decided that seen as though i couldnt sleep i would try and do a spot of gardening, Maybe i can make grass actually grow on this terrible landscape im living on. However imagine my surprise when the next thing i see is a police car turning up at the gas station! red lights flashing the policeman quickly came running over to me and demanded we talk inside. Once inside he told me that there had been a very bad complaint made about me to the police. I had been accused of being a burglar! I told them that there was no way, I had done my time and was trying hard to turn my life around. I asked in if there was anyway we could settle this without going to the police station. and asked if i could be told who the person was that had made the complaint.
He informed me it was Lilly Do I explained to him about the run in i had with Lilly previously earlier that day, and that i could assure him that i wanted nothing but good for this town. I gave him all the details and after much talking... He actually believed me thankfully. I promised him that i would be no trouble to him and his job, I just wanted to make my life better. He said he would be having serious words with Lilly Do and fine her for wasting police time. He shook my hand and told me not to worry about the matter anymore and wished me a good evening. And quietly left the place i now called home. After he left i headed inside and asked the directory for Lilly Do's phone number, She was not impressed i had called her in the middle of the night, and was even more surprised when she found out it was me on the phone.
I told her that her evil doing had backfired that the police had believed me and that it was her that was going to be in trouble. I then told her to leave me alone! I had no interest in her petty games and she was not to bother me anymore. And slammed the phone down. I headed back to bed afterwards and when i woke up in the morning and peered outside my window, to my surprise the grass had already started to grow! I was actually pleased with my handy work So i decided to do some more work, In fact i worked really hard that morning, Anything to take my mind off the night problems with the police. And so after i finished doing some of the garden i headed off inside and made myself a lunch meat sandwich which wasnt the best food i have ever eaten but it was better than the ready meal drinks that i had been living on. Still feeling a little sorry for myself after my meal, I decided it was time at least to check out the little bit of town. So i called a taxi When the Taxi arrived i climbed in the backseat with my very limited ammount of money. And told the driver to take me to someplace to get myself a drink. Thankfully the drive was not to long, And upon arriving at the only destination in town that actually seemed fit enough to go too. The taxi pulled up and charged me an unbelieveable ammount, I guess everyone has to make a living somehow. In really bad need of money after that large Taxi fair, I walked around the place to find in the upstairs karaoke bar a Pokertable. Now in Prison i admit to having been a pretty good Poker player so i pulled up a seat and waited for my first match. It wasnt long before a few people arrived, Sandy Bruty with her long blonde hair, I could tell straight away that she was from the "Rich" part of town and i was actually surprised to see her in this part of town, but needless to say i was not fussy after all this women had more money than me and i would take great pleasure in beating her. The guy i had no clue to who he was and so we played. It wasnt long before i was winning and i was happy to have a bit of a filled pocket. But the older guy didnt seem to impressed and constantly complained about how much time it was taking for me to complete my turn. And i was actually relieved when Sandy took the rest of his money and he quickly left the table. And two more players joined. However feeling my luck was running out in the game, I said a goodbye to Sandy. And headed off downstairs to the Bar. Once there i sat at the bar since i was alone and asked the pretty barmaid for a Drink. I couldnt help but notice that the young lady was quiet attractive but however she seems shy and i dont know why but i just didnt ask for her name. While sitting there enjoying my quiet drink, I couldnt help overhear the conversation going on behind me. To ladies talking about how much brighter the neighbourhood since Mr Tellerman had opened up the mentor project for local wayward Teens.
I asked the barmaid who this Mr Tellerman was and she informed me he was currently sitting at the table just the other side of me. So drinking the last of my drink i got up and headed over to the nearby table where Mr Tellerman was sitting with his lady friend and introduced myself. I explained to him that i had heard about his project and wondered what it entailed. He told me that he offered a program for troubled Teens to recieve a mentor that would show them the way in life, People that were being problems in the local school and neighbourhoods. I told him that i wasnt sure i was qualified enough because i had just recently come out of Prison myself.
He replied I was actually one of the better qualified due to the fact i had been there and was sorting out my life. He told me if i was interested he would be willing to give me a chance. I told him how grateful i was for the oppartunity and handed him my home number and address. Told him that we could sort the details out over the phone rather than me continue to intrude on his date. He stood up and put out his hand to shake, and then pulled me in for a hearty hug. I actually felt like i had made a friend for the first time in ages. Afterwards i headed home, this time i chose to walk after all i didnt want to loose the money i had just won at poker. Upon entering i found a present left on my doorstep of a home computer, I was shocked and surprise and found when i opened the tag that it was a present from Mr Tellerman, he told me not to get to excited as it was an old computer but that he thought it may help me in future. I was determind at that point that i really was going to make a great go of this. I grabbed the local paper and searched for some jobs. And when i couldnt find any in the Paper, i decided to head on to the computer which had wireless internet connection.
I saw a job offer for a Team Mascot. I had always been quiet into sports so i figured it was worth a try. I sent them an Email and told them i was interested and they asked me to call. So i called the number that had given me, and found myself accepting my very first job! It was a terrible Pay of only $154 but it was a start at the very least. I spent the rest of my afternoon working on the piece of junk that was in my driveway when i moved into this place. It was going to take me a while but at some point i was going to need my own set of wheels to get around town, and there was no way i was going to be able to save up anytime soon with working on house. So for now my spare time will be spent fixing up as much as i possibly can. Before long it was time to head off to my first Match and i pulled on the outfit i was sent over earlier that day...And boy did i look stupid. I was not impressed with this outfit but i grinned and headed on over to the guy that was picking me up for work. Clay was a handyman at the grounds, and lived in the area and had offered to drive me to work, He laughed when he saw me get into the car and it took me all my time not to reach over and punch him one. But i promised myself that this would not be forever and i would be happy just as soon as i had some money in my pocket. And wouldnt you believe it after several days of working hard back and forth i was promoted to Minor Leager. I was so happy to be out of this mascot outfit. And they also gave me a few days off. So taking advantage of my morning, I was happy to see that my work had really started to pay off on the garden, I hired the local removal company to shut down the gas lines on the property to the gas pumps and had them removed completely, Got in touch with the local council who told me i could keep the property as it needed far to much money and work to be done on it and handed over the deeds to me. They said it was cheaper than knocking it down. I guess they were to much interested in New hampshire to care about Hampshire. And wouldnt you know it the grass actually started to grow. I then got a phone call from Mr Tellerman, he was friendly and asked me what i had been up to and then asked if i was interested in taking on my first case. I told him i was looking forward to it and he gave me some details.
16 year old Jack Slater, Just moved to town, was close to boot camp as well as low grades in school due to not doing homework and skipping. He had given the guy my address and would be over later that afternoon. I told him i would do my very best. Looking forward to meeting Jack I headed outside to see if i could see him in the distance. And then i smiled when i noticed the kid. When i met the kid he instantly gave me a high five, He told me how he was releaved to have a break from his family, He was honest and told me a bit about his home life and i told him a bit about myself. I told him all about how when i had been his age i had got myself in a lot of trouble and ended up being arrested by the police. I also added how i had been to prison and it wasnt a nice place to be, I had been injured many times in there and now i was finally wanting to do right by myself and make something of myself and wanted to help him do the same. I told him that he too had better start thinking about his future because he wouldnt be a kid forever. He told me to give him a break and relax. I asked him if he was hungry and that i wasnt the best cook but he was welcome to have some sandwiches with me. He told me that Sandwiches was much better than whatever he was eating at home and after i made them he sat down and ate them as if he hadnt eaten in days. After re played some kick ball and had a bit of fun playing that, he said it was fun to play and the kid sure had a good aim, i showed him a few moves and he was really interested in my minor league job. He actually seemed rather sad that he had to leave but it was getting late and it was a bad part of town and im sure that his family was missing him by now. I told him i would see him very soon and that he could come over anytime he wanted. I had no idea just exactly how fast it would be because just before i was headed out to work on my car the following day i got a phone call. It was Jack's mother Izzy, She was in a bit of a state and asked if i had seen Jack this morning, i told her i hadnt seen him since the day before where he had headed home.
She said he had come home last night but had not gone to school like he had promised. I told her not to worry and that i would take the day off and go looking for him and see if i could see him in the neighbourhood. She thanked me and hurried off.
I couldnt believe that Jack had skipped school after the talk we had the day before he seemed to really listen. I headed off out to look for him but when i couldnt find him i returned home. I had a feeling that Jack would show up at some point So i began sanding down the windows of the house and removing some of the spraypaint on my walls. It was going really well when Jack suddenly turned up on my doorstep.
I invited him in for a little bit of a chat. We sat down and had a chat on the sofa, I asked him why he hadnt turned up for school, that his mother would be frantic. He told me he had been on his way to school when the landlord who owned the house where his family rented turned up on the doorstep. His mother had been sleeping after worrying the previous night and he had confronted the guy. The guy had not been impressed by his attitude and after several arguments with the landlord who finally would not listen and told him that he would be kicking them all out the following day as soon as he had the correct paperwork. Jack had been to ashamed to return home feeling he had lost the family there home I told him that he was to young to be worrying about these problems, and that he should have come straight to me in the first place. I headed over to the phone and called his mother to let her know what the problem had been and that Jack had been afraid to tell her about them being kicked out tomorrow. Izzy already frantic over her son seemed even worse so when she found out the news. I instantly told her not to worry, to leave the landlord up to me that i would deal with him.
I sent Jack home straight away and told him to remind his mum not to worry that i would sort all this out for them.
After sending Jack home, i decided to go out and work on the car some more to think about what i was going to do about the landlord. I couldnt let this guy get away with what he was doing to this poor family, And it was no wonder Jack was in such a state. I felt more determind than ever to set things right the more i worked on my car.
After all if i can start to turn this place around with a bit of sanding and gardening then i was sure i could handle a creep like a landlord...At least i hope so.
