The Slater Family have just moved to New Hampsire and are currently renting a home. However its a small house with a large family. Single Mum Izzy is doing her very best she can for all her children. However Jack is in trouble at school and the Landlord is threatening to kick them out....
The Slater Family have just moved to New Hampsire and are currently renting a home. However its a small house with a large family. Single Mum Izzy is doing her very best she can for all her children. However Jack is in trouble at school and the Landlord is threatening to kick them out.... Help finally came for us when Jack's Mentor friend John Smith came to visit us.
John seemed to be an ok guy, to be totally honest i hadnt really got the time to talk to him because i was so busy looking after the toddlers. Jack however was really happy to see him, the two seem to be getting along so well, it was nice to see Jack have a father figure in his life, after all he seemed to play the dad role to so many of the younger kids way before his time. Jack told John about a school project he was really interested in, Wildlife in afria, they were currently studying the effects it was having on the elephants in the wildlife. and John seemed really pleased that he was taking an interest in his school work for a change. Jack then asked John if he would finally like to meet mum in person, John seemed interested and so Jack introdused mum to John. Mum was finally happy to meet John smith, and to my shock she didnt actually throw herself at him like other men she had met, Maybe she really was putting us first instead of finding us a father. Mum said thank you for all the help he had given her the other day when Jack had not gone to school, And hoped that with his help Jack would actually finally start to do better in school. He said he was only to happy to help, and that Jack was actually a good kid he just needed some direction. Mum mentioned her worries about money to John and explained the problem with the landlord that was getting worse and although had hadnt kicked them out the following day as he had promised he would to Jack, she knew it was just a matter of time. She then asked John if he fancied comming inside for some lunch after all we were just about to leave for school. And mum must have been happy to have finally made one friend in the town because she actually cooked and didnt burn them for a change. She made some Toasties and they looked Yummy, Sadly me and the others didnt get to enjoy them as we all headed off for school. Mum and John sat down and had a chat, He talked about his criminal past and how he was trying to make a proper go of things, and as he learned he hoped to teach Jack too. Mum said that after all he had done for Jack she was very grateful, he would have been in boot camp by now she explained, or Someplace else. He then told mum about his run in with a lady called Lilly Do, How she had called the police saying that he had burgled someplace, Mum was shocked and couldnt believe it. She laughed when he told her he had convinced the police finally of his innocence and then called up Lilly to let her know she was going to get a fine for wasting police time.
Time with there chatting went really fast and it wasnt long before us kids had come home from school. John stayed a while longer to watch the latest Llama game on tv with Jack and Paul.
Paul wouldnt stop asking John questions about what it was like to be playing in the minors and it was only when Jack offered to help him with his homework later on that he finally was quiet and settled to watch the game. After wards John and Jack went out and headed to the run down land next to our yard and began playing some football, The two had a blast until it Mr Love started to complain and Jack and John called it a day. John said goodnight to all of us and headed home. Next morning i decided to give mums toasty things a try for myself and i managed to follow it! I was so proud of myself and us four older kids piled around the table really enjoying a hot breakfast for a change. Afterwards i headed upstairs for a quick shower, I changed back into my pjs for the time being until i had to get ready for school, I told Jack about the problems mum was having regarding money, I told him i had noticed that the freezer was empty and didnt know how we were going to eat that night. Jack whispered to me that he had a plan, mum was not far away after getting one of the toddlers a bottle. I was slightly worried by his plan fearing that he would do something that would make mum upset. But i had no time to worry as the bus was outside waiting for us for school. As we were getting ready, Mum got a phone call from none other than...The landlord. As we could tell by her face she was not impressed at all. Jack asked mum if he could stay home from school, There was no way he was letting her deal with this alone, and he could get some of the mountain of homework we all had done. But mum told him not to worry and that school was way to important. She told him to hurry the school bus was waiting outside. Mum however didnt wait for the landlord to come to her, When he turned up to see Mr Love first, Mum stomped right on over to him and told him that she had 6 children to take care of and while he may not be impressed it, she was doing everything she could to take care of her children. That it would be not right to kick them out and she would do everything in her power to make sure of that they kept there home. He told mum he would consider letting her stay longer if she would provide him with a little kiss. Mum was shocked told him that there was no way on this earth she would even consider that. Thankfully she had borrowed an old tape recorder from John that she kept hidden in her jeans shorts pockets and recorded everything he had said Mum went straight inside and called the local council and told them of what the Landlord had said to her. They were just as shocked as she was and they told her that not to worry he would be dealt with promptly When we returned from school Jack was not home long before he headed off out, I was worried i know that things were pretty bad at home, I hoped he headed off to visit John to thank him for the tape recorder. I managed to raid the fridge to make us some sandwiches for Dinner, I could see that the others were a little tired of it but sadly it was all that we could offer right now. Nobody else joined me for Dinner so i ate alone. Things got bad to worse when the repo man came, Mum hadnt managed to pay the bills, Mum pleased with them but they wouldnt listen, So she insisted that they take her bed and not ours. The Repo man agreed and mum spent the next half an hour crying in her room. To make matters worse Mr Love came back around to complain about some smell that was comming from our house, Mum insisted it wasnt our house but he would not listen. He even had the nerve to come into our house and complain to mum, where he shouted angrily at her, She ordered him out of the house otherwise there would be trouble. He finally left, but not before mum chucked a glass of water at him. Me and the others couldnt help giggle at that. Jack then came back home from where ever he had been and found the cause of the smell, Mr Loves Trash can had been knocked over! It had been nothing to do with us after all. Jack picked it up and placed the trash in the bin. I was really worried about where Jack had been so i had no choice to ask him, had he been getting in trouble cause the last thing mum needed was him getting arrested.
Jack insisted that he had not gotten in trouble, In fact he had gotten himself a job. I wasnt sure if i should believe him or not, He handed me a small ammount of money and snapped that if i didnt believe him that i should check with John, after all he had got him the job. To be sure i couldnt help myself, I love my brother a lot and didnt want to see him get into trouble, I couldnt help but call John to ask him myself, but to my surprise he confirmed that he was working as a waterboy for the minor league. I knew i would have to apologise to him. I then called up for a delivery of grocerys it was amazing to be able to actually buy some healthy food for a change. In fact i decided not to tell anybody. Lilly was complaining about something in the bathroom which i first suspected to be yet another spider climbing the plug hole. I got ready for bed and then decided to check out this spider only to find that the bathroom was flooding, I managed to find a spanner and began working on it, I have no idea how to fix a bathroom so i just banged it a little and tighten it a bit here and there, thankfully it seemed to do the trick. Just as i finished the doorbell went And mum got the shock of her life when she opened the door to find a delivery of fresh food! She was so happy that she actually hugged the delivery person. And mum went into the living room where Jack was, I whispered to mum that Jack had got himself an after school job and she almost burst into tears. I treated us all by following a book and made us some spaggetti and meatballs. Everyone went to bed that night with a very full tummy. As it was saturday we all enjoyed the day off, Jack didnt have to go to work at the weekend and so i saw my brother do something ive never seen him do before.
Jack actually sat and studied, He spent hours doing all the pile of homework he could manage. And when he finished all of his homework..... He helped Paul do his! I couldnt believe this was the same brother i had grown up with all my life, after all he had usually been the pain of the family causing us so much trouble, I really had to thank John next time i saw him. Even Lilly saw what was going on and knuckled down and followed suit, I was usually the only one that managed to do my homework, but Jack was obviously having a fantastic effect on the others in the household, I wondered why they hadnt listened to me, but then I was just a sister, They all saw Jack as the Man of the house. Mum was so Proud of Lilly completing her homework, For once all us kids looked forward to school on monday because we all had finished our work for school. And to make us all even happier, We had a new Landlady! Mum was so happy that the old Landlord was gone, she was older and friendly and mum ahd her got along really well. It was great to see things actually getting better in our lives. But Jack didnt stop with Just homework that weekend, He spent his time fixing the toilet in the upstairs bathroom! As you can imagine it was something we were all pleased about! He then taught Jane how to walk! it was such a wonderful site to see my baby sister taking her first steps, Everyone cheered. And while the rest of us were sleeping, Jack carried on with the brother of the year theme and Painted the windows! He cleaned and painted them until they shined! When he had finished he made himself something to eat and the poor guy was so tired he fell asleep in his food, Thats how mum found him the next morning, and was so shocked to see what he had done to all the windows in the house. Mum hugged him for all his hard work and sent him off to bed. And to follow suit Mum spent the morning cleaning and scrubbing at the downstairs bathroom until it was finally Clean! When she finished the Bath it was unbelieveable the change in it. It was amazing. I knew i had to help in some way so.... I began helping also in the bathroom upstairs! I scrubbed until my hands ached but it worked and we soon had very nice clean bathrooms in the house, other than the wallpaper and floors of course. We all remembered that it was Anton's birthday and sadly we couldnt afford a party but Jack went out and brought him a lovely cake with blue candles.
We all gathered around and got our party poppers and celebrated his birthday, other than Paul who was so tired and fell asleep on the sofa. And my youngest brother grew up! Such a good looking young man just like his sister, not that im saying mum is ugly or anything but their father was quiet the looker.
He was pleased to be eating some birthday cake. And mum shocked us all early the following morning by showing us she had painted the living room! We couldnt believe it, the place looked already so much better with just the windows clean and painted and the livingroom painted. Our house although not on the outside, on the inside was starting to look more and more like a family home. We couldnt wait till monday to go school with no homework to do. And With Anton now a child, I hope it will make life at home a little more simple.

Will Jack continue with making a step in the right direction? Will Mr love continue to cause problems for the Slater family? Will Izzy make the mistake of falling for yet another guy causing the family turmoil? Or is this really a turning point in the Slater family?
