Life starts to get a little stranger for Ailia Corven. Two weeks have passed and my aunt still refuses to believe me. I set up a bench in the backyard to watch for the gypsy ghost but his visits have become less frequent. My aunt found a new job as a wedding planner but she always comes home exhausted in the evenings so I decided to learn how to cook. My aunt's food is questionable at best and always contains surprise ingredients. I also made a new friend which was a first for me. I tend to be a loner and prefer my own company to anyone else's. My aunt saw it as a huge step but I stopped her before she could offer to bake a cake. The last time she tried she thought she had added sugar until we took a bite and relized it was salt. If it wasn't for the occassional appearance of our ghost I would have thought I'd imagined the whole thing. But I bought a journal to record significant events so at least I'd have some tangible proof. But things have a way of suddenly changing in this house. One night I was awoken by what I thought was a rat. Having seen evidence of rodents in the pantry I was determined to catch one in the act... But as soon as I rolled out of bed I realized it wasn't a rat. A young girl was looking at me with a sad expression on her face, her wool coat embroidered in the fashion of the mid-19th century. At first I thought her coat was patterned but I realized after rubbing the sleep from my eyes that I was merely seeing the papered wall behind her. After that I began to see her more frequently. Her name is Dinah but she can't remember anything else about her previous life. She's such a sweet, ordinary little girl. I wonder what happened to her. She likes to play hide-and-seek in the garden and always has a smile on her face. When I come home from school I sometimes see her skipping rope by the front steps. Since my aunt claims that I'm crazy I don't think I'll tell Michelle about the ghosts. I can just imagine her disbelief. I came to this town determined to start over. I don't want to be labeled as 'that strange girl who sees dead people'. I even started doing my homework, a definite improvement. At least, that's what my aunt says. But it's becoming harder and harder to connect with reality. Every sound makes me think of ghosts instead of ordinary things like mice or the wind. I just wish I had someone to talk to about all of this. But I should have known--in this house, you have to be careful what you wish for. One morning when I was getting ready for school I heard a shrill scream. Running donwstairs I looked into the parlor and sighed with relief. My aunt had finally seen a ghost. Dinah explained that a spirit has to allow you to see them. She thinks my aunt is a little scary but Dinah finally gave in when she couldn't figure out how to turn on the TV. But after a few days they started to get along a little better. My aunt finally came to terms with a ghost being in the house and soon considered Dinah a part of the family. But if we're a family, we're the weirdest one I've ever seen. My aunt loves caring for Dinah and orders a pizza to be delivered each day before she leaves for work. Dinah said she usually hates human food but pizza, a modern marvel, is a definite exception. So things have finally begun to settle down in this crazy house. I talk to Dinah each day when I come home from school and she always likes to help out in the garden. Sometimes I even forget that she's a ghost (except for the fact that I can see right through her). I haven't seen the gypsy since I met Dinah but I have a feeling he'll be back. I think he needs me somehow.
