Yep, unfortunately male Sims can hit (and even Attack) female Sims. Once I had a female Sim divorce her husband, then invite another guy over. The guy wanted to bring a friend, she said yes, and he showed up a few seconds later with her ex-husband! Just seconds after she greeted them--THE EX-HUSBAND (controlled by the computer, mind you) ATTACKED HER!
(Don't worry, he got his butt handed to him by her new boyfriend a short while later.)
