All morning at school Blue passed people in the halls that whispered behind her back as she walked by. She attempted to be friendly but everyone ignored her attempts. They treated her like she was invisible or contagious. By lunch Blue was frustrated and turned to her father for comfort. "Hey Dad, you got a minuet?" "Always for you Princess, come on in." Austin stopped tuning the instruments to hug his daughter. She looked as if she needed it. "So...how's it going?" he asked. "Terrible, everyone hates me." she replied on the verge of tears. "I'm sure that's not true, they don't know you." Austin knew how the majority of the students behaved here at Ryley High and knew Blue wasn't imagining things, but he didn't want to tell her that. "They don't want to know me Dad." "They will, just be yourself and keep that beautiful smile on your face." He searched for the right words to make her feel better. "It's hard to smile when they're laughing at everything from my shoes to my hair." She knew Austin hated seeing her sad but she couldn't hide how hurt she was by her first day at RHS, she had had such high hopes for her high school experience. "I love you just the way you are from your head to your toes, but if you want a new look we can go shopping this weekend, maybe have a spa day." "A spa day really, all three of us?" "Yes all three of us." he laughed, relieved to see her face light up. "Thank you Dad." she said throwing her arms around his neck. With a weekend of shopping and being pampered to look forward to, Blue was able to ignore the comments made by the other students for the rest of the day. The week didn't improve much. She actually got in to an argument with Dakota Ryley on Thursday. She was watching some of the guys play ball on break when Dakota approached her. "Save yourself the embarrassment, he doesn't want you!" "What are you talking about?" Blue asked thoroughly confused and caught off guard by this irrate girl. "Don't play stupid, I've seen you watching him all week. Just stay away from Nico!" "Are you serious? I don't even know what you're talking about. In fact I don't even care!" Blue yelled back before walking away, determined not to let DaKota bully her. Blue wished friday would hurry up and come. The fight with DaKota made her realize even after buying new clothes she would still be an outsider. She had made an enemy of the girl who's family owned everything in Ryley and she didn't even know what she had done or who this Nico was. Finally, the final bell on Friday rang and Blue headed straight to the parking lot to wait on her Dad by the car. On her way there a couple of boys ran into her in their rush to leave campus. Picking herself up off the ground Blue screamed. "Geez! Watch were you're going!" "Sorry, are you ok?" one of the boys turned back to help her up. "You're not hurt are you?" he asked seeming guinely concerned. "Nico, let's go!" the other boy yelled not bothering to stop and see if Blue was hurt. "Nico?" Blue muttered aloud staring at the boy who must be DaKota's boyfriend. Why else would she go off on her for watching him play basketball? She wasn't even watching him, just watching the guys play. "Yeah that's me." Nico said his voice bringing Blue back to the moment. "I heard about your arguement with DaKota and wanted to apologize. She's a real drama queen but believe me her bark is worse than her bite." "Why does she think I want you? Blue wanted to know, she didn't know him and as far as she knew he didn't even know her name. Today was the first time they even spoke. "She thinks everybody wants me, don't take it personally." "She's made my first week miserable, because of her no one will talk to me, it's hard not to take it personally." "I'm sorry, I just found out what happened today. I promise next week will be better. Let me try to make it up to. We're headed to the mall why don't you come with us." "Who is us?" Blue asked surprised that he was taking it upon himself to right the wrong his girlfriend had committed. "Me, Jonas, Amber and DaKota." he pointed toward a group waiting on him. "Sounds like fun, but I have to pass." Blue said unable to hide the sarcasm in her voice. "Seriously DaKota is harmless, it'll be fun." "It's not that i don't appreciate the invite, I have plans with my Dads." "Oh, well maybe next time." he said and walked away. "Was that Nico you were just talking to?" Austin asked when he got closer to Blue. "Yes sir." was Blue's only reply as she wondered what Nico meant by next week would be better. What was he planning? "He's a good kid, one of the few out of that crowd he hangs out with." Austin thought Amber and DaKota were spoiled rotten and Jonas skated through school with no real effort. He taught them all last year when they were freshman. "Anyway you ready to get home, I just got off the phone with Jet and he said he was all packed just waiting on us." "Packed I thought we were just going to the spa here in Ryley." Austin only laughed. He hadn't meant to let it slip that their spa day and shopping spree had turned into a weekend get away. Blue was unable to contain her excitment the entire ride home. The week had ended on a good note and now they were going away on a family trip, she wanted to know where but Austin would respond the same way each time she asked. "You just have to wait and see."
