The scorching white light grew stronger and stronger, energising the ground it penetrated. It glowed intense and hummed with dynamic force and then ... disappeared. The Sim night returned to normal, dark blue, stars twinkling, and moons shining bright. Chester Gieke lay on the cold slate floor in an awkward position. Slowly, he returned to consciousness. The first thing he noticed was how dry his mouth was. The second, how his stomach growled, as though he hadn't eaten for days, weeks, months. He came out of the dream dreary eyed and disoriented. Chester rubbed the back of his neck. What on Simplanet had he eaten to have a dream like THAT? Alien babies, military investigations, robots... and could you really dream that you'd died?
Chester pushed himself clumsily to his feet. Whatever had caused that dream, he didn't want it to happen again. Whooo! His head was spinning.
Then, as Chester looked up he realised it was no dream! Jodi Bishop sat outside Chester Gieke's house deliberating her exact move. Enough was enough. She'd left phone call after phone call for Chester, but never once had he replied - and she had thought that they had been pretty good friends. It was no longer Maude Simpson who was the sole complaint. Neighbours of Chester had reported military men snooping his premises, and a few claimed they saw what looked like a boy of about seven or eight through the upstairs windows. Yet, no one had seen sight of Chester. Jonathan however saw sight of Jodi Bishop the Social Worker, and went into overdrive. Step One, make sure the boy was out of sight. Step Two, shut down. Jonathan took off as fast as he could, but couldn't escape in time.
"Hey! You there!" Jodi called out. "Yes! You! Wait a minute! I need to speak to someone...or ... some... thing." Jodi never thought there'd come a day she'd be asking help from a robot.
Jonathan stood obediently. Afterall, he was a piece of hardware designed to obey and comply with Sim's wishes.
"There's some questions I need to ask you."
"You mean to say you've been keeping a CHILD ...ALONE... a-and Chesters...DEAD... and ...that child has been in YOUR care.. and Chester's ...." Jodi's words caught in her restricting throat, "... and... you... didn't tell anyone that Chester..."
Jonathan watched as the angry Sim lady's eyes brimmed with a clear glossy liquid. Jonathan had seen this happen many times with the Alien child, but hadn't realised it was something Sims were capable of as well.
Jodi brushed away her tears angrily. She had a job to do and it would be gross negligence if she allowed her feelings to get in the way. "I have a court order here for any children I find on these premises in need of urgent care."
"The boy needs no further care. All his needs and wants are being more than adequately provided for."
"You're a ROBOT! Robots can't take care of children! They need... other SIMS!"
Jonathan recalled the many times the boy had yearned for such a thing.
If Jonathan had had a heart, it would have broken as he told the boy what had to happen.
"But you PROMISED!" the distraught child yelled. "You promised you would never leave me!" The boy sobbed. "LIAR!"
"Robot's can't lie," Jonahtan tried to explain rationally.
But the boy just cried silently into his hands.
Jodi Bishop stood in shock. It was never easy taking children away from their parents, but that's not what she was shocked about. The boy had pale green skin, and his eyes were completely black...
Jonathan gathered some of the boys belongings and encouraged him to get dressed.
Jodi Bishop approached the crying boy who was now dressed and ready to leave with her.
"I know you're very sad now, and this is a very difficult thing to do," Jodi said gently, "but I promise you I will find you a family who will love you and take care of you-"
"If that's all they'll do, then I don't need to go then," the boy said, sniffing and wiping at his wet face. "You see, Jonathan already loves and cares for me. He IS my family."
Jodi sighed. There was something so desperate about the unusual child. "I promise you, Jonathan ..." she used the name somewhat hesitantly - whoever heard of naming a piece of metal?, "will be able to visit whenever you want him to."
The boys dark eyes glossed over. "I don't believe in promises anymore."
"I wish there was something I could do," Jonathan said as he hugged the boy goodbye. "But if I'm allowed to, I will visit you every day, and you'll always be a part of my memory chip." The boy squeezed tighter. "I don't want to leave you Jonathan."
"I know..."
"I'll miss you," he whispered to the robot. "You WILL always be my family and my friend. Thank you for being my protector. I love you."
The alien child sat in the light blue car, not knowing where it would take him. Meanwhile, Chester had problems of his own.
If he hadn't witnessed a flying saucer crash in his back yard, and hadn't rescued an alien baby from a nearby forrest; if he hadn't watched military Sims forever hunt but never find what was directly in their sight; if he hadn't suffered a mysterious disease and died...
...Chester would have been somewhat overcome with what he saw now.
But she was indeed beautiful.
"Hoo-hoo-hoo-who a-are you..." "Do not be afraid Simling male," the extraordinary being said in a calming voice, "you have not been brought here to be harmed. My name is Neila and I am a Birth Queen on this planet. I am part of a race who have been observing Sims since the beginning of Simtime." "Wait just a mintue .. beginning of TIME? How is that possible? And why are you observing us? And what has any of that got to do with ME? What am I doing here? And how did I get here?" "You were brought here Chester Gieke, at my request. You have many questions," Neila said, "and all will be answered. That is why you have been brought here." "At YOUR request. So does that mean YOU were the one to give me that disease? But why, why would you want me dead? O-or didn't I die? Am I dead now?" "Is THIS heaven? No offense, but you're not how I pictured God." "I was not the one responsible for taking away your energy, but I was the one to give it back. You are not dead Chester Gieke, and you will live a long and happy life, back on your planet. But first, you must follow me to have all your questions answered." "These are the the originators of the male child you found in the forrest," Neila presented, "Pollination Technician 302 and Birth Queen Uriel. They will answer any questions you have, Chester Gieke." "s-s-so YOU'RE the baby's parents?" Chester said excitedly.
"Not in the sense you are familiar with," Pollination Technican 302 said, "our ways are somewhat different to Sim reproduction, but yes I and Queen Uriel are the baby's originators."
"It is why we both have such an interest in the male child and why you have been brought here to speak with us Chester Gieke. You see, the baby you found in the forrest is part of a very important experiment we are-" "EXPERIMENT! You thought dumping a baby on a different planet would be a good idea for an experiment! What sort of beings are you?" "Similar to you ... Scientists is the term I believe you use."
Chester was stumped for a reply.
"You see Chester Gieke, our planet is rapidly expanding and at the current rate will completely dissipate in the next few hundred years. We are sending our offspring to different planets in hope of finding one suitable for our needs." "You mean you're taking over Simplanet to live there yourselves! You can't do that! Think of all the lives! You can't go around taking Sims lives to suit your own purposes!" Chester's heart pounded heavily at the thought. "No Chester Gieke, we are not planning a mass extermination. The only species capable of such barbaric acts is one known as human. Their planet earth and society is not suitable for our purposes because of it. No, Chester Gieke, we do not want to eradicate Sims, we wish to co-exist peacefully, sharing resources and knowledge." "So far there have been a few unpleasant side effects, but ones we could adapt to in time."
"Side effects?" Chester asked with interest - the Scientist in him still strong.
"Hair has seemed to grow in places which were once silky smooth, and his skeletal growth has been stunted."
"The worst effect currently recorded is the loss of all power over animate and inanimate objects, hence why the ship crashed onto your premises instead of landing safely."
"You mean the BABY was flying that thing?"
"It is a power known as mental telekenisis."
"So the bottles... appearing from nowhere..."
"That was not the offspring. We had to ensure the baby did not starve to death."
"Control over animate objects ... so was it you preventing those miliatry Sims from seeing the baby?"
"Our experiment was to see how Sims interacted with our kind, and how our kind would respond to Sims. We could not have the experiment jeapordised by Sims intent on their own experiments."
"And why Chester Gieke, I deemed it necessary to intervene with your plans to never allow the child to interact with anySim."
"You know there could have been other ways to deal with that - you didn't have to kill me you know."
"Hindsight is indeed a good teacher."
"So what happens next?" Chester asked.
"What happens next will determine both our planet's entire future. It will be based on whether Sims accept or reject the male child. Only time will tell."

It just keeps getting better and better! If you're a bit bored with it, maybe take a break (despite all of your impatient readers - I'm one of them, lol) for a little while. As far as I can tell, you've given the story your best effort so far, and it deserves a good finish. You can't end it as well as you started when you're not interested in it anymore, so maybe you need to put it away for a while. Thanks so much for part for - I'll be waiting for the final chapter along with everyone else, whenever you feel ready. \:\)
