A quick check of the forecast and it was verified - nope no rain expected today. So Chester Gieke did what any typical Sim geek did on a beautiful typical sim day - and that was spy on Mrs Taylor, who typically took a dip in her hot tub, and like any typical beautiful outgoing Sim, did it in the all natural. Chester was a big fan of all things natural. Suddenly, he heard a massive whirring sound that filled the sky. Surely it couldn't be what Chester thought it was. Surely luck wouldn't be on his side. He watched as the massive object hurtled across the sky, spinning wildly out of control ... ... and right into his backyard!
Chester breathed hurriedly! Luck! On his side! Today! There it was ... right in his very own backyard - an unidentified finished flying object. Shrapnel lay everywhere and smoke wafted from the glowing hot metal. Chester ran to the ruins and got as close to it as he could. He waited. Nothing happened. He waited some more. Still nothing.
Not to be disappointed, Chester ran to his lab and grabbed his ferensic science kit. He took samples from where he could and raced them back to analyse them. And it wasn't long before Chester knew he was about to make history... There ... on his screen, proof that creatures from another world had tried but dismally failed to make contact with the Sim world.
Chester would be famous! And in time absolutely rolling in Simoleans - which of course would just be an extra benefit.
Chester couldn't sleep that night. Chester had rung the Sim Chronicle and told them he had ground breaking news - literally. They of course wanted to know what it was there and then, but Chester couldn't tell them something as big as this over the phone. So they arranged for someone to come out to interview him in the morning.
That wasn't the only thing keeping Chester awake. Every now and then he swore he heard a high pitched cry off into the distance...
When the phone rang in the morning, Chester ran to answer it. Perhaps it was the Sim Chronicle telling him they'd arranged a press conference- making him instantly famous.
It was the Sim Chronicle, letting Chester know they wouldn't be able to send someone out to him until the next day.
It was as Chester hung up the phone he heard the noise again. It was a sound of distress, high pitched, like a dolphin - only there hadn't been sights of dolphins in the bay since the Industrial Revolution - the Mayor's attempt at a bigger and better Simcity. This noise had a distinctly simlike quality to it. It was coming from the woods not far from Chester's house. Chester couldn't believe what he saw. Writhing on the dewy undercut was a pale green creature not from this world - in a nappy. Chester hesitated, not knowing whether it was friend or foe. The cries were less urgent now, more pleading. Chester bent cautiously and gathered the small body in his hands. It's skin was cold to the touch but silky smooth. And that's when it happened: something that would change Chester's life forever... The alien baby reached out and caressed Chester's face. It's large glossy black eyes looked into Chester's and the thought it conveyed was :"Thank you, my rescuer, my friend, my protector. I love you."
Something stirred deep within Chester and his eyes welled with tears. Suddenly he knew what it was like to be a father.
All thought of fame was gone, Simoleons were far from the picture. Something worth much more was entrusted to Chester that day, and he didn't fail to see the significance. He held in his arms, not only the opportunity to embrace another world, but finally had someone to love, and someone who would love him in return. And that was priceless... ...but filfthily disgusting. What WAS that gushing out of it's mouth? It was warm and gooy, and irridiscent blue and stunk more than Chester could believe. Mmmmm... something else to analyse.
The baby began to wriggle in Chester's arms and cry. Chester realised it had been out in these woods all night and was probably half starved.
He rummaged through his kitchen to find something for the baby to eat. What did Alien babies eat? As Chester opened the fridge door, another miracle occurred. A green baby's bottle appeared out of thin air in the middle of the shelf. Chester shuddered. Just what kind of powers did this baby have?
Apparently content, the baby closed it's eyes and drifted to sleep. Chester needed a shower. Not knowing what else to do, he placed the baby in his bed.
Meanwhile.... on the other side of Simcity.... The military were doing their own investigations of the sky. It was Flight Officer Melissa Fancey who first detected the anomolly... She checked and rechecked her screen, but the readings were always the same. There had been strange flight patterns and phenomanal manouvreings late yesterday afternoon in the vicinity of Chester Gieke's laboratory. Melissa called over her co-worker and showed him her findings. They stared at each other knowingly.
"You know what you have to do," Officer Komei Tellerman supported.
Melissa nodded.
General Buzz Grunt hated interruptions when he was working on something of utmost importance and the novel he was secretly writing was almost finished.
"Sir, I'm sorry for disturbing you ...."
"Dang it!" General Buzz fumbled for the screen saver key. "What is it Officer, this better be important."
"Yes Sir. It's something that needs your urgent attention Sir. We've made a huge finding Sir."
"Don't just stand there, out with it."
"Sir, our readings show that there were unnatural flight patterns from a flying vessel not of this world."
Genreal buzz paused. "Officer that's a serious claim."
"Yes Sir, very serious."
"Are you sure?"
"Completely certain Sir."
General Buzz wasted no time. "Officer, gather our finest. This is a matter of top Simnational security." Chester had just showered and was still dripping when he heard vehicles pulling up outside. He panicked when he saw the Sims get out of the jeep. First thing he needed: clothes. Second thing he needed: reason why he hadn't informed the Sims now standing on his doorstep of his recent discovery. "I'm General Buzz Grunt and our intelligence tells us that there were strange happenings in your immediate vicinity. Chester Gieke, we have a search warrant for your premises and Lietenant John and Major Tilders are here to carry out investigations. Sims, get out there and leave no stone unturned." "Lietenant, you search inside and I'll take the exteriors," Major Tilders ordered.
"Sir! Yes Sir!"
Chester's heart pounded and his head spin. They were going to find what lay in his bed and when they did it would end in tragedy. Chester was research Scientist, he knew what they would do to the baby if they found it and it would be worse than what they did to blue dummies in the medical centres!
Suddenly excited cries came from Major Tilders. He ran to the General, panting heavily.
"Buzz it's incredible!"
"Major! Control yourself!"
"Sir! Yes Sir! Sir, you ... need to come and see this for yourself."
Buzz couldn't believe his eyes...it was the most magnificent thing he had ever seen.
"Ohhhhhh....the spaceship ... yeah...." Chester put an uneasy hand to his rapidly beating heart.
He wondered if the lietenant had found what he inevitably would.
"You knew about this?" Major Tilders demanded.
"Well, yeah, I was looking through my telescope and then... well I didn't need a telescope for much longer-"
"Why didn't you report it?"
"Well...."
"Have you told anyone about this son?" General Buzz asked urgently.
"No..."
"Good. See that it stays that way, are we clear on this son? This matter if top secret, no one is to know about this, understand."
Chester nodded. "O-o-okay... Sir."
As the two sims marvelled at the space craft Chester wondered if they'd notice if he snuck away and checked in his bedroom...
Chester grinned sheepishly as he passed the Lietenant scanning his lab. When he got to his bedroom panicked gripped Chester like a bony hand around his heart. It squeezed tighter and tighter. The baby had gone!
That instant, high pitched screams were heard outside. Chester ran to the source; terrified.
It was Major Tilders - and he was not happy. "Someone's been tampering with the evidence!"
"Ahhh, that was me," Chester confessed hesitantly.
Major Tilders went ballistic. "Are you out of your mind! Under whose jurisdiction?"
"Well, no ones ... it was in my back yard, and I thought..... you see..." Chester stammered, "I'm a research Scientist so I thought I'd do some research-"
"Well I'm a FIELD scientist and this is now a military crime scene and under no circumstances are you to go near it again. Got that Gieke?"
"Y-y-yes ... Sir."
It was hours before the Sims had finished their investigations. They found nothing but nonliving matter.
"You didn't happen so see any strange ... life forms coming from this ship?"
"Life forms?"
"Think about it son, that flying saucer didn't get here on it's own, did it?"
"Auto pilot?" Chester suggested.
"I don't have time for trifles. Keep your eye out for any movement around this area, and if you do happen to see something, report it directly to me."
When the men left Chester searched everywhere for the baby that had been in his bed.
His body flooded with relief when he saw the baby outside on the path.
Chester was astounded. Why hadn't the military seen it? How did the baby get there in the first place? And why was a baby sent to another planet alone?
Chester wondered if he'd ever find answers.
Chester wouldn't, but others would...
