Welcome back! This is the second part. Watch the first part, Suburban Girl: Riches to Rags to avoid getting confused. It took me a week to cart myself over to small suburban town to find a place I could afford. It was a complete dump! I had no products on my face or my hair and my clothes were boring and grubby. How was I going to live here? It was a health hazord! The Kitchen had beetles and bugs crawling in the draws, it hadn't even heard of a trash compactor or a dishwasher! I felt so depressed, I just lay on the motheaten sofa. I wallowed in self pity. Feeling in my pockets I found my last Buck, and with it I did something truley amazing... I snipped my pretty long hair off and brought some henna dye from the flea market. It was the new me, the darker me, the braver me. With that I fell asleep apon the soiled floor. The doorbell rung early the next day. The most amazing man stood in front of me.
"Welcome to the neighbourhood! May me and a few friends come in?"
How could I say no?
"Sorry about the mess," I babbled.
"No worries, I'm Robert Crantbell. I live just up the road." He said in his deep, warm voice.
"Yes, and I'm Briget Katz. That's my daughter, Ria. Iv'e known Robert since we were children and live just a couple of houses away!" Gabbled a stressed, fizzy haired woman. "Hey don't forget me! I am Robert's girlfriend, I live with him. The name is Kasha. Don't forget it." Whined a pretty woman with long hair. "Hey...it's Edith, right? I'm Nicole, Briget's younger sister. God knows why I hang around with her, maybe you could come to a few of our coffee mornings?" Said a woman about my age. "Thanks, sorry. My parents got into money trouble and Iv'e kind of been left with nothing. I need to tidy this house!" I grimiced to my new friends. "Messy!" Gasped Ria in her cute baby voice.
"Ria! Sorry Edie, can I call you Edie? Ria Is a little cheeky, she takes after her father. Well I would say leaving your pregnant wife a little more than cheeky, but anyway!" Briget said quickly.
I guess I wasn't the only one with a bad past in the room.
"We need to help you tidy up, it's what neighbours do!" She said brightly
"Yeah! I can help redecorate!" Robert called out, his light brown eyes sparkling. "And Robert! Didn't you say you needed a new co-secretary for the office? Maybe Edie could take that job!" Nicole shouted. "Eugh! A co-secretary!" I snapped, some of my old self butting in. "Well, how will you pay for the bills and cleaning the house? It's a good job considering you didn't go to college..." Briget said meekly. "I guess. Thankyou everyone, this is so nice of you." I told them. So the next week Briget, Nicole and Ria sat in my dirty little Kitchen laughing as I changed for my new job with some clothes Kasha had given to me after she told me loud and clear with a dirty look that she would not want to wear them afterwoods. "Come on, I bet you will look better than smelly old Kasha!" Nicole shouted into the bedroom. Like me, she had a secret little crush on Robert, and since Kasha wasn't very nice anyway we decided to hate her. I walked it, they both gasped. Even Ria gurgled. "You look so hot!" My two new friends shouted. "Lets get you to your new job, yeah?" smiled Briget. Robert's office was dull and made out of clean glass. I could not belive I had to work there. "Now don't listen to the nasty women who work there Edie. They are all just like Kasha. God knows why Robert dates her! I know you are going to do just great!" Briget told me. "As soon as you get the pennys rolling we can do up your house! Go on girl!" Nicole told me. As Briget started chatting up random man and Nicole looked as though she was about to interupt her, I took it as my cue to go inside inbrace my new job. I sat down a the secretary computer desk area next to a beautiful woman in slience, with only the plain walls to look at. An hour later, she got up and beckoned me over.
"Hey! You do realise that you are co-secretary not a proper secretary, like me so..."
"Robert told me that being co-secretary made no difference actually," I smiled, cutting her off mid-sentence. "Don't try and flirt with Robert, you have nothing compared to Kasha. And yes, it does make a difference, now go and make me coffee." She snapped. I trudged angrily to the staff room. Nobody had ever treated me so badly! "Hey Edie, why arn't you at your desk?" Robert asked in mock anger. "This silly secretary woman has me making her stupid coffee that I don't even know how to make!" I shouted. "I'm not getting paid to do this!" I continued shouting. "Hey calm down, I'm sorry. Why don't you come and sit in my personal staff room, it's nicer than this!" His beautiful voice soothed mine. We sat in the neat room in silence for a few seconds. "Who even was that woman!" I asked him. "That was Coleen, she's very good friends with my girlfriend. She was probably jealous of your beaut...I mean, your hair." He falted. "I hope you won't leave the job already, its nice to look at you...I mean see you working here." He told me nervously. Why was he talking like that? "No, I like to see you here too!" I laughed. Is it ok to flirt with a taken man? "Yes, what do you think of me...I mean the office" He said, biting his lip at the mistake.
"They are both stunning!" I laughed.
Then, he stood up abruptly telling me that I better get down to work again and him back down to Kasha. I got home and sat on my creaky bed. I thought about how my life used to be and I wondered if I was happy now. My thoughts were interrupted by the phone ringing. "Hello" I answered.
"Hey Girl! How was work!" Briget and Nicole shouted down the phone.
"Hiya! Yeah it was Ok, started out pretty badly but it ended really good" I told them. "Cool, you hang in there. Are you coming over for coffee at the weekend?" They asked.
"I would love to!" I smiled. Maybe I was happy.
I continued to work non stop for the next few months with outfits given to me by Kasha under Roberts orders. I also continued having lunches with Robert, I enjoyed this even though I could only look, not touch. When I wasn't working, I was cleaning, mopping, scrubbing and polishing my dirty squaler. And when I wasn't doing those two things I was out with my two new best friends or even out with Robert. After a few, long months of living in a dirty pit, the outside of my house had been redecorated externally and I was going to live with Briget and Nicole while my house was being cleaned and the interior was being done. Even Kasha came to our mini celebration, but she got annoyed with our cheering and laughing. "Come on Edie, let me show you to your new home for the next couple of months!" Shouted Nicole. How would I like living with the Katz family? Would I ever get closer to Robert? Find out next time!
