Here is the next story in the Urban Legend Series. I had hoped to have a couple more in before Oct 31, but family matters prevented that. Sorry....anyways hope you enjoy the read!

Danny had been given a job offer in Elgin, Illinois. He was now the CEO of Plato Designs. In the harsh market , Danny had saved his last company from closing it's doors. 2 weeks later, he and Nicole packed up their belongings and headed North. They had finally finished unpacking and looked forward to the week they had to relax before Danny started his new job. There weren't two more compatible people. They had started dating as Freshman and never had eyes for another.
" Nicole , we need to go to my mom's on Sunday when she is having the family dinner and tell her she is gonna be a grandma." he said. "Whenever you are ready dear, I'll leave that up to you." she replied. They had been trying for the 4 years since highschool to have a baby and were so excited when the latest trials at the clinic had worked. They had waited 3 months to share the news to lessen the chance of complications in the pregnancy. A baby, or 2, or 3 was exactly what they needed! The dinner had went well for Danny and Nicole at his parent's home. Danny still had his mother's lipstick on his face , she had kissed him so many times! Who would have thought a woman would go so crazy when she found out she was going to be a grandma! Nicole was on cloud nine....all the pieces of her life were falling into place. "Oh Danny , I don't think I will ever get used to this cold weather! If we were still down south, we would be wearing shorts!" she exclaimed after making a mental note to always have a jacket in the car. She turned the heater on. "I know, it takes awhile to get used to, but just wait until you see the beautiful snow! It's not fun to drive in ,but it is nice to look at!" he returned. Danny had turned on the radio to listen to some music. What he heard in a newsbreak shocked him.
Attention Chicago listeners! A convict escaped from Big Muddy in Southern Illinois today! He is believed to be heading North. He has Black hair, green eyes, is 6 foot 3 and 215 pounds. Last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and jeans.He has a tattoo of a skull on his right upper arm and a large scar under his left eye. He is considered armed and dangerous! I repeat , armed and dangerous. If you see this man, contact your local police, do not attempt capture! Danny could see on Nicole's face that the news had her worried. He quickly changed the channel . She didn't need anything to worry about in her condition. "It's okay, Nicole, I won't let anything happen to you. We are almost to town. Try not to think about it honey."he reassured her. She looked straight ahead and tried to forget what she had heard. They would be home in an hour and everything would be fine she told herself, but she couldn't shake the awful feeling she felt. Total doom ..... Ding, Ding , Ding....
" Danny what is that ? " she exclaimed. " It's the engine alarm, the light is flashing. " he said . He barely had the words out when he looked at the engine temp. It was running hot. He got out of the car and looked under the hood. He could see that one of the hoses had a leak. He slid back into the truck. He tried his cell but he couldn't get a signal. He only had one bar and the call for a tow truck wouldn't go through. He tried to start the truck, he had saw a sign for a gas station just a mile back. Maybe he could make it to there. The truck wouldn't start. " Nicole I am going to walk to that Pilot station a mile back. I want you to stay here with the doors locked until I get back." " Have you lost your ever loving mind?! We just heard there is a convict on the loose! It is pitch black out here! If you are going then so am I!" she yelled. "Nicole I am not letting you walk a mile in the dark along a highway! You know me better than that! You will be safer here in the truck. I will tap the truck three times when I get back so you will know it's me. Don't look at me like that, I don't want to argue. Just stay here where you are safe, and I will be back as soon as I can. Okay? " he asked. Nicole reluctantly agreed. "I love you Nicole, I will hurry." he said as he exited the truck. Danny was worried to leave her there alone, but he knew she would be more at risk walking along the dark highway. He started the mile hike back to the gas station. Nicole had heard several taps since Danny had left , but not just 3 in a row. She was so frightened by now. An hour had passed. Surely Danny had got to the station and called a tow truck. She waited another 20 minutes before she saw a police cruiser pull up. "Oh thank God! " she said as she started out of the truck. Why wasn't Danny with the cop she wondered....... Detective Smith stared in confusion as the scene registered in his mind. He had been on the force for 10 years , but had never seen something so horrific! " Miss, I need you to come to me. Don't look back. Just walk to my car. Don't look back. That's it, this way." the detective told her. Nicole questioned in her mind why the detective didn't want her to look back , but she was so scared ,she just wanted to get off this highway and get home! "Good job miss." he stated as he tried to usher away from the scene. He didn't want her to see it. He knew she would never forget that sight if she turned around. "Don't look back Miss." Now that Nicole was close to the detective, she felt safe. She couldn't help but turn around to see what was putting that look on his face. She looked up into the trees...........Her gaze went down towards the roof of the truck............ Nicole wished she had listened to the officer. Just below the leaves she saw Danny. She saw his shoe on the roof of the truck. Tap Tap Tap
