Chapter 7
"You can't feel anything
That your heart don't want to feel" "You mean more lies? No Andrew! I've had to much of it since I met you!"
"But I..."
Andrew leaned in closer to Madeline.
She tried to pull back gently. The Annual Town Ball is one of the most exquisite events around the year. All the celebrities and influent people meet here every year. Madeline and Raluca were talking in one of the dining halls of the Goth house which was donated to the comunity to host the event.
"I'm telling you it's like everything is going in the right direction!" Raluca said.
"At least for you." Madeline whispered. A tall, elegant woman entered the room. Her name was Sandra Drozdov and she was a well known actress, maried to an influent lawyer. She was Madeline's only friend from outside her family.
"Madeline, my dear! Ralua! I'm so glad to see you here!" "We haven't talked since a while, Maddie. How are you!" Sandra asked with a smile on her face.
They talked for a while, but Madeline was not feeling well. She had something on her mind. "If you'll excuse me I need some fresh air." she said as she left the dining room.
"Take your time, Madeline!" Raluca said softly. Upstairs Madeline saw Michael talking to someone. Michael smiled at her.
"Madeline, I'm glad to see you!"
"Mee to!" she said shortly.
"And this is my wife..."
"Hi, I'm Carla! You must be Madeline, that writer my husband told me about!"
Madeline could not say one more word so all she did was look at that woman. "It was a plesure meeting you, but I have to go!" she said. Madeline was devastated. She had left her husband, Andrew, because of the short affair she had with Michael.
She could already see their future together, but now it all came apart.
She never knew he was married. Remorse and guild were turning her into dust as she stood on one of the couches in the foyer. Andrew was looking at her with a mixture of fascination and giult coming from his own side. "Andrew? I wasn't expecting to see you here." Madeline bluntly said.
"Yes you were... I needed to find you tonight!"
Madeline's sarcasm had no limits at that moment.
"Why? Haven't we done enough? Or is it that you can't live without me?"
"I've been thinking and I think you deserve the truth..." "You mean more lies? No Andrew! I've had to much of it since I met you!"
"But I..."
Andrew leaned in closer to Madeline.
She tried to pull back gently. "I love you, Madeline!' He whispered holding her hand. The woman smiled. She had heard those words so many times before. But still this time they sounded so different from how she was used to hear them.
"I thought I felt the same way, but I don't!"
She left the room in a rush, with her head held high.
"Goodbye, Andrew! Have a good night!" Once again Madeline had to lie. She wanted to stay close to Andrew, feel his embrace and continue to whisper words to him.
But that was a part of the past. She was a strong that dind't belive in second chances at least when it came to her ex-husband. Raluca was sitting at the bar. She had just finished her drink when Madeline showed up. "He lied to me!" Madeline said.
"Who?"
"Michael... He never told me he was married! And now Andrew shows up and confesses his untrue feelings to me."
"I know Andrew's here. I've been avoiding him for a while." "You know what? I think it's best if we go home and calm down."
"Maybe your right..." Madeline said. Madeline was unshure if she was heartbroken or just confused. One thing was certain: there was no turning back now!
