Attention Sims website owners!

Dec 31, 2012

Happy New Year!
Preview the new TSR!

News post added Apr 15, 2011 | 50 comments

The current design of The Sims Resource (Version 7) has been around for a long time now, during which time many new technologies have come along. As we embrace these to make TSR easier to use, more efficient and delicious to look at, we are moving towards Version 8 of your favorite Sims site!

In the past we have developed and then launched each new version of the site with much fanfare (and bugs). This time around we are making a gradual change, developing Version 7 into Version 8 progressively to be known as V8 Evolution!

In this screenshot you can see our current design for the v8 index page. This may change slightly as we develop, but it gives you an idea of the way TSR will look as we move into 2011. The first phase of V8 Evolution brings the new header, footer and navigation to the existing site design. The new index and download pages will follow soon.

Now for the exciting part! "How long do we have to wait to see this" you ask? Well... You don't! You can join us now in previewing the new style, features and technology by visiting v8.thesimsresource.com. This will be the test bed for each new feature before we roll it out to the full public servers on www.

Please do take a look and see what you think. Pop back here and post your thoughts and comments as your feedback will help us progress, both in terms of stability for users but the future design and usability of TSR as well.

We know there are still some bugs but we hope you like what you see...  Viva la Evolution!

Simspiration: Free with Issue 3!

News post added Feb 21, 2011 | 25 comments

Simspiration Issue 3 is here and it's bigger and better than ever! And now, your favourite Sims Lifestyle Magazine will be published online for FREE for the enjoyment of the entire community. The previous printed Issues seem to be cherished by those that bought them and to whom we are very grateful for helping us get this project off the ground, but the huge work effort that goes into this premium publication deserves maximum publicity so we have decided to make them free for the entire Sims playing community!

All three issues are now available in the Simspiration Magazine Rack here on TSR or from Issuu if you already subscribe to magazines there. If you didn't catch Issues 1 and 2 then you now have over 200 pages of reading to do, so jump to it... your Sims will be eternally grateful for the design and style techniques you are sure to pick up!

Our magazine reader allows you to easily pop the magazine out to full screen where you can view all the details in high resolution, clicking on creator names and download links to pop open web pages that you might be interested in. Future issues and maybe some other publications will appear on Issuu as well, so if you are a member there be sure to subscribe to thesimsresource to be the first to know when new content becomes available.

In Issue 3:

  • Spa Oasis: Find your favourite bathroom
  • Medieval for the Masses: Build your own medieval historic centre with exclusive TSR Theme content
  • Recolourable Glass: Gosik shows you how to create recolourable glass using TSR-Workshop
  • China: Be inspired by our big travel article and china furniture by angela
  • PLUS MORE in this 88 page issue!

Head over to Simspiration Issue 3 now and be sure to use the Full Screen option to see the juicy details. Check out the Index button too, or use the scrolling preview bar at the bottom to get an overview of the sheer size and quality of this very latest issue. Click a link in the magazine to see the Artist or Creation open up in a new TSR window. Ah what the heck.. just go and explore!

If you would like to receive Issue 1 or 2 in Glossy Print we still have limited supply available in the TSR Shop at a newly reduced rate, while stock lasts.

Kudos Lottery Update

News post added Jan 31, 2011 | 14 comments

Some of you are already aware that we had a bug in our Kudos Lottery system, allowing people to buy infinite tickets without costing any Kudos. We know many of you are aware because we sold 10 times more tickets for the last Lottery than usual :)

As a result we have to discount the last Lottery. Looking at our system, nobody has had Kudos deducted for buying any of the tickets anyway, so nobody has lost out on Kudos as a result of this.

As soon as we get the bug fixed we will open up the Lottery again. Sorry for the inconvenience.

TSR v8 announced!

News post added Sep 29, 2010 | 52 comments

We are happy to report that work has begun since some time back on developing TSR version 8. The main objectives with the new site are:

Embrace modern technologies
We will use CSS3, HTML5 and Javascript to enhance the visual feel of the site while at the same time making it faster, smoother and more convenient to use. Transparency and subtle graphical effects without using images or flash are just a few features we will use.

Put focus on content
With larger preview images and less "clutter". This involves cleaning up the overall navigation of the site with a minimalistic top menu. We also have a brand new frontpage layout (see picture) and a new clean/modern look and feel to the standard content pages throughout.

Improved minisites
The minisite structure will be redesigned to allow for better customization (background patterns, fonts etc) and more personalization (less intrusive TSR menu). This time you will be able to make your minisite feel more yours and less ours. With our social network integration you will also be able to have live Twitter and Facebook feeds on your minisite index.

Section hubs/index pages
There will be index pages for each major section of the site, such as the download pages (sims 1, 2 and 3) and community page. By having section hubs we can more easily promote a lot of content without messing up the frontpage.

Improved reliability and stability
Hosting as we know it has evolved a lot the last few years with cloud hosting as a prime example. Testing has already begun to improve our site infrastructure and move the resource heavy parts (such as images) of the site into "the cloud".

Social Networking built in
We believe the future of the web goes hand in hand with social networking. We are integrating Facebook, Twitter and other social networks into your minisites and your account. You can sign in with any of your social network accounts and even sign up with one of them (for new users). Promotion of content will be easy to use and streamlined, making it a natural part of using the site both when submitting and downloading.

Those are just a few of the ideas we have in mind. But wait there's more - we want YOUR input as well! What features would you like to see on TSR v8? Toplists, Fansites, Weekly competitions - let us know! The top 3 suggestions will be awarded a free 12 month subscription upon the release of version 8 (currently estimated at spring 2011).

Leave your feedback in this thread here: http://forums.thesimsresource.com/showthread.php?t=386250

The Sims: Medieval

News post added Jul 29, 2010

While I was at EA almost a year ago I was invited to a very small and very private focus group about a new Sims game which was being developed. I was of course bound by Non Disclosure Agreements disallowing me from talking about the discussions (and still am), but I'm happy to see that what we discussed has made it to a full release to be called 'The Sims: Medieval'. It seems that not very much has been released about the game yet so this may be the first you hear of it, but it certainly won't be the last!

The Sims: Medieval is not an expansion or stuff pack, it's a standalone game more along the lines of The Sims: Life Stories, but a major departure from The Sims 3 and the way of life we have come to know in our beloved games. The Sims: Medieval is played more like an RPG than a simulator, with players choosing from one of ten 'hero' characters which they will control as they play out quests to further themselves in the game. The professions include Blacksmith, Bard, Knight, Merchant, Monarch, Physician, Priests, Spy and even Wizard.

There will be no build mode as we know it, but players will be able to expand their castles, houses etc by adding modules. The Create a Sim that we all know and love remains in a basic form for setting up your characters but the game is far removed the modern day worlds we play out today in Sims 3. All the technology you know is gone. Food prep is back to basics and even carrier pigeons are used as your only form of communication.

So The Sims: Medieval is then, very much not just The Sims 3 with old world objects and styles, it's a completely new way to play the game, focussed on quests and objectives in a way not seen in the franchise to date.

According to Rod Humble, Executive VP of EA Play, this will be the first of a series of similar releases which sees The Sims explore "themes, space and time".

The Sims: Medieval is set in a period of time which allows for rich and varied stories to evolve, many of which will be either based on or heavily influenced by the religions of the time (as it was in real life). You will be able to choose to not have any religious influence, or to experience Jacoban or  Peteran Churches (or both). This will greatly affect the way your kingdom operates and is one for the more RTS like elements of the game.

Information is sketchy at the moment and the images I have found so far are courtesy of magazine scans from PC Format, but I am hoping to get the very latest info and screens from EA some time soon. Maybe we will even get the chance to do a full preview, so let's keep our fingers crossed for that.

/Steve
