News by The Sims Resource added Nov 14, 2011, read 3017 times

As some of you might have noticed there is a problem with our sims2packs at the moment, they can no longer be installed. This is due to a bug in the program we used to create the sims2pack before they got uploaded to the cloud.

As a result we have disabled the option to download as sims2pack for the time being, if you are used to download in that format you have to get used to download as zip until we have sorted it out, instructions for that can be found here:

http://www.thesimsresource.com/resources/view/category/downloads-sims2/id/171/

We have also decided it is time to retire the old download wizard (used for Sims 2) as we are no longer able to maintain it and fix bugs.

For those of you that are affected by this we are sorry for the inconvenience this might cause.

Hmm, sorry to hear that. If there are issues with the current sims2pack downloads, I'm assuming that as contributors to the site, we won't need to re-upload the files to the site at a later date?

On Nov 15, 2011 Angela wrote:

@ Dreamstar, Adobe reader will not help you there no. That is a program for reading a .pdf file. You can open a .zip or .rar with programs like Winrar or Jzip (just enter either one in your google search to find it) after downloading the .zip or .rar open it, Extract the files in there to the EA games/ The sims 2 / Downloads folder (if in .package format) if the file in the .zip is sims2pack, you can simply doubleclick to install as you are used to.

I did not read this before I sent a question to you.  Sorry, will wait for fix, do not care for the zip files.

I think the reference to adobe files is all the downloads are now appearing as adobe and when you click on them a warning comes up that says they cannot be used.  Memory fails me but they have not always downloaded as adobe file types.  They do however work in the game.

TSR has always been the ONLY place i get my dl's from. Because its the only site i trust... I understand that sims2pk has bugs, but just like the whole internet.. it has bugs, but ppl still use it even tho they knw its infected. i'm very disappointed that you took the sims2pack off. because that is the only way I can download... and hopefully next time i check back the sims2pack will be put back because of so many dissatisfied users......i really hope ya'll get it fixed! because there's no way i can DL until its back \:\(

I cannot agree more on the sims 2 pack cleaner.. its all I use as well.... as a subscriber its money used for a game... kinda makes it harder to download from winrar... some items do not even show up in the game... sims 2 pack cleaner keeps track of bad files and duplicate files.. and much easier to use.. click cllick and your done.... sigh.... \:\(

Can someone tell me, can the ZIP file be deleted or removed after I have installed the file? I have a lot of ZIP folders in my Sims 2 folder.

On Nov 17, 2011 dharden wrote:

BBdoll3: Yes, they can. They not only don't need to be in that folder, they really shouldn't be there. You can even move them to an external drive or a flash drive. I'd have sent this as a PM, but PMs are unavailable until the forums come back.

On Nov 17, 2011 sandymoc wrote:

Totally agree with thekidd.  I pay for this and the amount of new downloads coming up for sims 2 is lacking in abundance and now you are taking away 1 of the reasons I am a subscriber.  Less downloads, no wizard, no future subscriber.

I have always used the dowload all function.. but it isn't there... and the Zip thing just says that it is "creating a basket" and then that it is "in the queue"?  What does that mean?  I can't get stuff.

On Nov 17, 2011 asimfreakkk wrote:

I have to agree with dharden and thekidd... It was easier for a SimsPack to be downloaded and seen in the game. As well as many artists having to share their cc and hard work, when some of us have trouble seeing it in the game or downloading. This is honestly my favorite website of all SIMS, so please fix this problem if you can. Thank you.

I used to download the zip files and it would download with the "number" Example: 100010.zip  now it only d/l with the name of the item..I use a spreadsheet to keep track and print out a listing of the ones that I have so there's no downloading the ones that I already have. Is that related to the old download wizard? would love to see that come back.....

Like all then subscribers, I was given 7 free subscription days last time this site had issues. I've also earned 70,000+ Kudos since I've been here. I planned on using these this winter. Now it appears that TSR is not going to give me what I paid for. I worked hard to earn those Kudos. I paid for those subscription days! I want the Download Wizard back and the CC fixed. This "bug" as the anonymous author calls it, is not my problem, it's yours. Fix it.

We intend to fix the sims2pack files, but the Wizard is outdated and can no longer be fixed. We have not marketed the Wizard as a subscription perk since several years back.

Where is the problem ? Zip file are easy to download !

I've never used files simspack, unnecessary and less convenient for me.

On Nov 20, 2011 leonisa wrote:

I chose to remove all my games and content from my computer and over the past few days downloaded content that I will be smart enough to save (this time) in another folder and most likely on a usb drive.
It is not difficult to download zip files.  I do this to a folder on my desktop.  There have been times I have downloaded something then see it in a "set" - download the set, drag the files to the folder I set up on the desk top and a window asks me if I want to add or override etc. and I select no so that I don't have duplicates.  I have also used that method when downloading into the simsdownload folder.  The computer will tell you if you are trying to put copies in (at least my computers have).
I do miss some of the older tools that were avaiible but in truth I am not a paying member for the tools - the content is  fantastic this site allowe me to have content I could never make myself and goodness knows EA or Orgin or whatever their name really is now - is never going to provide it.

littlebird73 - the Zip file thing isn't working right.. it says it is creating a basket and then says something about a queue... This isn't how it worked before.
To all - How do you access the queue and where is it sending the info to?  The only way I can get anything to download as a zip is the single download option with the green arrow - but that will take hours.  Assistance would be appreciated.

Actually, I was having trouble with the 2 packs anyway, so I don't mind downloading the zip files. WinZip is the program you use for that and I never have had a problem with it. Thanks for letting us know.

On Nov 20, 2011 dharden wrote:

Dungeonaire: Clicking on the green arrow to download a set or item should work.  At least, it does for me.  I haven't used the download basket since sims2packs were disabled, so I can't speak to that.  However, judging from my own experience, I would assume that any problem you're having with the download basket is a problem with the download basket, not with zip downloads as such.

On another quick note... i just tried to re-download my kudos stuff... and tried to put them in basket.. it qued and that was it nothing... well.... after my subsciption is used up... I wont be subscribing anymore.. its too expensive and a complete hassle... This is a fabulous site... or was.... but... winrar is just to much with my wrist (arthritis).. so spend on downloading... and some you have to re-download... for it does not show up in the game..... so..........good luck to everyone.... I so dislike change... sigh... \:\(

Not a major problem as far as I am concerned. As with other contributors, I have never had any insuperable difficulties with zip files, using winrar to extract the files to the downloads folder. OK, occasionally a few items don't appear in the game - but that happens with simspack items too.

Upset that the wizard has been discontinued. This was the biggest reason I decided to subscribe was for the ease and convenience of the wizard. I'm not sure why TSR decided to take it away. I've lost desire to play as most of the fun came for me when downloading custom content and now downloading has become a hassle and drawn out process. These new techniques also requires adding additional files and junk to your pc that you would not ordinarily need with the wizard.  I hope that TSR will reconsider their decision to remove the wizard. Otherwise, I will not be renewing my subscription and will have to re-consider my 10year love affair with The Sim games as a whole #epicfail \:\(

I am about 2 months in to my subscription. Feeling like I wasted my money on this, as they will not refund for time left on the subscription.

You might not have "marketed" it as such, but the option to add to the download basket is still there and when a non-subscriber clicks on it, it says that you have to subscribe to use that feature. Which I did, only to find out that that feature is no longer available. Thanks a lot. The whole reason I subscribed in the first place is to use that feature.

Now having to use the zip install we have had NOTHING but problems with installing content.
I hope TSR will seriously rethink the decision to take away the installer and bring it back soon,as from what I am reading not just from the above but in other forums, they won't just be loosing non-subscribers and subscribers alike but also word of mouth for the website as a whole will take away from the reputation many of us have given it for its amazing creators, their content, and ease of downloads with the installer.
