Sims 3 has changed how careers work in comparison to the previous sims games. Your sim gets paid per hour instead of per day if you wanted, your sim could work a few hours and then go home. It does hurt your work performance.
Also you can choose between full or parttime careers. There are 11 fulltime careers: business; crime; culinary; journalism; law enforcement; medical; military; music; political; professional sports and science. And there are 5 parttime careers: bookstore clerk; grocery store clerk; day spay receptionist; day spa specialist and mausoleum.
The best paying career is the medical career. It is also the most challenging career.
