*Dartanya laughs* I guess I'll start the day we went shopping for Elle's wedding dress. I helped her change out of so many dresses until we finally found one she loved! The sales clerk, wanting to quickly make a sale, gave us a discounted price on the dress. Elle looked gorgeous in it! The day of the wedding came quickly enough. I spent the early part of the day running around getting things set up! I was so tired, I hadn't had a good nights sleep in days!
I met up with Uncle Davin and Deanna when they arrived. They said my nephews were doing good, but still a little to young to bring to a wedding. I was disappointed, but understood.
We got to meet Elle's mother when she arrived. She was a very sweet lady. Jaq and Dante showed up not too long after Uncle Davin. Deanna told Jaq she looked beautiful in her bridesmaid gown. Jaq smiled then looked at me...
"Did they have to be pink?" Jaq asked me, disgusted.
I laughed and said, "Yes, it's what Elle wanted, so grin and bear it!"
Dante looked nice also. He's so handsome without his glasses. When it got time for the wedding to start Jaq and I went in to help Elle. When she was ready, Elle turned to me and told me thank you for all the hard work I had done to make this wedding perfect and that she hoped she could do the same for me when it was my turn to get married.
I laughed and hugged her. The ceremony was ready to start. Jaq and I walked down the aisle. As we did, I saw Blayne standing beside Sam and Dante. With all the commotion of the wedding, I had forgotten he was going to be there. The thoughts of Blayne's presence left my mind quickly as Elle appeared. She was absolutely stunning. I watched her walk up to Sam as his eyes filled with tears of happiness. They recited their own vowes under a starlit sky. It was so romantic, so peaceful, so perfect. When it came time for the kiss Jaq cheered as the audiance applauded. While everyone was congratulating the new couple, I snuck off to set up the buffett table. Morgan came over and offered to help. He told me he was suprised to see me without a date for the evening. I smiled and explained that I had been too busy to worry about a date. Later, I made my way over to the main table and sat down beside Elle.
"Was it as perfect as I thought it was, Dartanya?", she asked.
"It was beautiful, Elle." I replied, as Sam nodded. I glanced around making sure everyone was seated. When my eyes came to rest on Jaq's table my heart hit the floor. I saw Jaq, Dante, Blayne ... and his date. Katy! I wasn't suprised to see that he brought Katy, I knew they had been dating. I had just not seen them together yet. I quickly pushed the thoughts of them out of my head and prepared to give my speech. I stood up, shaking with nervousness, as I tapped on my champange glass with my fork to get everyones attention.
I glanced at Morgan's table and noticed that Mr. McFayden SR. was there. He caught my eye and gave me a wink. My nerves calmed and I continued with my speech. I got into the story about how I had known Sam since grade school and Elle since college, and how amazing it was that two of my very best friends ended up together. I wished them an amazing life full of love and happiness.
After I finished my speech Blayne gave his. Then everyone started to eat. I got up and walked over to Jaq's table just in time to hear her ask Katy when the date of her wedding was. I stood there with a frozen smile on my face as she talked about her and Blayne's wedding plans.
I excused myself and went inside. I felt like I was going to be sick. I couldn't believe Blayne was getting married! I told myself I needed to get over my issues and deal with them another time. This was Elle's day and I planned to keep it happy. I walked into the reception hall and went over and told Katy congratulations on the engagement.
She smiled and said, " Well, thank you 'Tanya! I know it must be hard for you to hear it. I imagine it came as a mighty big shock to you. I mean, you and Blayne having a history and all..." She paused here and gave me a fake smile, then continued, "... And here we are at a wedding, and all of your friends are here with their significant others while you stand alone. I must admit I admire your independence. I couldn't imagine being single for so long!"
I opened my mouth to say somthing but nothing came out! I could see Blayne standing close by.
I wanted to run away crying. But before I could do so I felt someone come up and put their head on my shoulder...
"Hey, Love." I heard Morgan say in my ear. "I'm going to get some more champange, would you care to join me?"
It startled me at first, then I smiled, Morgan was saving me from embarassment! He must've heard what Katy was saying to me.
I smiled and answered, "Sure. I'll be right over to join you." He gave my elbow a soft squeeze and walked twords the bar. I looked up at Katy, her fake smile was long gone and a look of utter shock replaced it.
"I'm sorry to disappoint you Katy. However, I'm not as alone as you think. If you will excuse me, I must go join him." I gave her a little smile and tuned on my heel to catch up with Mr. McFayden. I was just about caught up with him when I overheard Jaq telling Mr. McFayden what and awesome thing he just did for me. I guess she was watching from the other side of the room. I approached slowly and stood beside Morgan. We all stood there talking and were soon joined by Blayne, Katy and Uncle Davin. Throughout the night I noticed Katy staring at Morgan with a very angry expression. It made me giggle to myself. I left the festivities inside for some fresh air. I sat down outside under some cherry trees and was reflecting on the evening so far. It wasn't too long before Uncle Davin came looking for me.
"What are you doing out here, 'Tanya?" He asked. "Why are you not inside enjoying the party?" "I'm just taking a breather." I said smiling.
Uncle Davin sat down in the chair next to me and asked me what was on my mind. I told him about Blayne's engagement, the things Katy said, and how Morgan saved my ego from being bruised.
"That McFayden is a nice guy." Uncle Davin said with a smile. "As far as Blayne goes 'Tanya, you two have been apart for a long time now, did you not expect him to move on?"
"I did." I replied as tears filled my eyes. "I guess I just didn't expect it so soon. He's still my friend. He didn't even tell me about the engagement... I overheard it from Jaq."
"Maybe he didn't have a chance, or didn't know how to tell you?" Uncle Davin said. "Don't judge him to quickly, give him time, maybe he will have an explanation."
"Now let's go inside." He said, standing up. "Come dance with your Favorite Uncle."
I laughed and followed him inside. We joined the crowed on the dance floor.
"So what about Morgan?" Uncle Davin asked me, as we danced. "Is your relationship with him still strictly professional?"
I laughed. "I'm not sure." I answered. "Most days he tends to keep me at a distance, he treats me like any of his other employees. Yet there have been some rare occasions, like tonight, when he seems to warm up to me. Like we've been friends forever. He's always seems to be there and know what I need when I need it."
Uncle Davin nodded, smiled and asked. "So no hopes of a relationship there?"
"Hope?" I laughed. "No. I think he's a wonderful man. Handsome and patient, but I think I will always be just a friend in his eyes, if that. He must feel I am too young."
"Oh?" Uncle Davin said with a chuckle. "I don't think that age is an issue with McFayden, his first wife was a few years younger than him."
"Yes, but not twelve years younger." I answered, sadly. Our conversation was interrupted by Blayne. He asked Uncle Davin if he could cut in. Uncle Davin nodded, squeezed my hand and walked out to meet up with Deanna. Blayne and I started to dance, we didn't say much for a while.
I broke the silence. " I see you got a haircut, finally."
Blayne laughed, "Yes, It looks much more professional for my job. Besides, Katy hates it long."
"Oh." I said, looking down at my feet.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you." Blayne said. I looked up at him as he continued, "I struggled with it for a while, I just didn't know how to tell you. I know we haven't talked too much after the break-up, I was scared it might hurt you..."
I smiled and took a deep breath. "I wasn't hurt because you are getting married, Blayne." I lied. "If Katy makes you happy then you should. I was just hurt because of the way I had to find out. It came as a shock I guess."
"It seems odd doesn't it?" He said quietly.
"What does?" I asked.
"Oh,um... nothing." He said, "So, you and Mr. McFayden, huh? He's a bit older than you isn't he?"
I opened my mouth to tell Blayne that Morgan and I weren't really dating, but Katy walked back in and our dance was over.
After the reception we said our goodbyes to Sam and Elle before they left for the honeymoon. I went back to the reception area to help clean up. Morgan came over and asked if there was anything else he could do to help with the cleanup. (He had already folded and put away all the chairs and helped clear the dishes). I smiled, thanked him and told him that I believed I could manage everything.
He bowed slightly, told me to have a good night and he would see me on Monday. I continued to clean up when I realized I hadn't thanked him for helping me with the Katy situation. I threw down the paper cups I had in my hand and ran after him. I saw him as he was getting ready to get in his car.
"Morgan!" I said running to catch him. He turned and looked at me curiously.
I stood there catching my breath a minute then I looked up at him.
I said, "I just wanted to say thank you, for saving me from an embarrasing situation earlier tonight. You didn't have to do that."
He smiled. "It was no problem Dartanya. I had been talking to Jaq and she sorta spilled the whole story of you, Blayne and Katy. "
I blushed. "Well Jaq can't control her mouth once she's had a few drinks." I said, laughing.
"I knew you and Blayne had seperated, but I didn't know the reason why." He continued. " When I overheard Katy say what she said, I could see it was bothering you, so I just stepped up. You played along brilliantly."
"Yes. It really shocked Katy! She was speechless!"
We laughed. *Phone rings*
Oh! This is Uncle Davin, I must talk to him.
Thanks for stopping by! See you next time!
